  • An Anomaly has appeared!

    Amethyst

in canon legendary encounters, usually you just trip and fall into legendaries after they've randomly decided to roost somewhere vaguely out of the way.

if you're lucky there might be a whole dungeon before them.

or if you're playing XY, maybe they'll just be sitting there in a cave that clearly always existed for no other purpose than except to specifically serve as their roost until the region's favorite ten year old traipses along and use said legendary for baseball pitching practice.

anyway, this isn't canon. this is reborn,

and some people would argue that i hate you all and want to see you suffer. *

    * this is not true. i love all of you in varying degrees and the less you think it applies to you the more it's true. but don't be weird about it, ok?

so today i'd like to introduce a new device of suffering in post-game: Anomaly Battles.

the legendaries in post-game have an unfortunate tendency to appear with a strange aura around them called an Anomaly!

in universe, this aura is otherworldly, producing many strange like making the pokemon behave aggressively, or creating apparitions of other types of pokemon who fight alongside them!

    unknown.png

out of universe, it is our tool to be a gigantic bitch to you.

you've gotten to postgame, so you're clearly a skilled trainer with a diverse roster ready to handle anything we throw at you,

so here goes-- we're going to throw everything at you.

    unknown.png

in post-game, you'll face off against a special battle with many of the legends before being allowed the privilege of going for the catch! fight hard and come through strong because you may yet need that strength to secure the victory. not every legendary has an attached anomaly, but so far the strong majority of them do!

huge shout out to @andracass for making the lion's share of these teams so far; like with the other parts of postgame, she's really just put in a crazy amount of work for it

i hope you'll look forward to eating shit 💜

( please do not actually consume shit. please make sure all matter you consume is both edible and nutritious. it is important to eat regularly and take care of your body. do that for all of us, okay? you can't help others if you don't take care of yourself first. all right... then, you stay safe out there now. get plenty of rest. bye-bye until next time ! )

It sounds awesome and the work, plus skill involved, in order to offer at us a wonderful experience, is really otherwordly. B... But! What about those who want to soft reset, in order for their captured legendary to have better IVs? Since the risk has skyrocketed, would it be too greedy or sound ungrateful, if a plea for secured great IVs is also involved, as a form of reward or something?

that sounds really cool! I'm looking forward to those battles, honestly. I might not have the skill you speak of, since I haven't played pokemon since I finished playing the latest reborn & rejuv updates, but eh, that's for future me to deal with lol

Sure, beating up a legendary before you can fight it sounds fun. It's one of those things Let's Go did right. No more Master-Ball-and-it's-over.

Also, the sneak-peek of Tapu Lele's area is much appreciated😊.

Let's see... my favorite Legendaries are Manaphy, Ho-oh, Zekrom, Kyogre and Xerneas. With my piss poor luck, i expect them all to have anomaly battles.

Can't wait for Geomancy Xerneas(with power Herb ofc) , Dragon Dance Zekrom, Tail Glow Manaphy,

Ho-oh with Regenerator and Will-O-Wisp Shenanigans and ofc Underwater Battle with Kyogre. Them boosted Origins Pulses are going to be tasty.

But jokes aside. I like this a lot. It reminds me of the older main series games with the little sidequests.

This is an insane idea!! So glad you're doing the legendaries like this! Makes it an accomplishment to actually get them. If you defeat an anomoly will we still have to catch the pokemon too? I would like to think this is the case as catching them is also part of the tedious fun that is pokemon.

I think they were on about adding similar Gen 8 rewards to the nightclub such as bottle caps which in the current main games increase an IV to maximum. Maybe this is the way to increase a pokemon's IVs in the next update rather than soft-resetting.

Okay, ill be honest with you Ame... You screwed me up and let me tell you why.

Since i started playing Pokemon Reborn, i cant just enjoy Canon anymore... its just too easy! No field effect, no competitive gym battles, no lv 75 garchomp against 6 lv 35 team... its just too easy!

Now you come to us and make our lives even more harder? I say bring it on!

PS: im so hyped i look Reborn Dev Blog every single day lol

This is neat.  Are legendaries only going to be made available after the game, or will some of the weaker ones (Eg. pokemon like Articuno, Raikou, Regis, Azelf, etc.) going to be made available before the end of the game?  Asking since Reborn's a fairly story-based game, having them available after all is said and done is more for bragging than actual usage, unless there's some sort of NG+ mechanic.

That would be great, if true! Bottlecaps are Gen7 though and from what i remember (older dev posts), bottlecaps were said to not be implemented, at that time at least.

    Oh THAT IS SO COOL

This is gonna be the death of me but it's still gonn be SO COOL. Always wanted legendaries to feel more like a challenge to actually defeat.

    *reads the whole thing*

    as many have said

    "Bring it on"

ngl this is gonna be interesting and a challenge but it does cover some questions
are the legendaries gifted to us at the end of the battle ? or after the anomally battle do we have the chance to save before fight it and catch it.
Because im thinking like. "Oh good poor shiny hunters are gonna have a weird time now that thye need to win a big boss battle to see if thye got a shiny or not XD."

but looks cool and a welcome challenge

Ame just make sure you get enough rest and stay well. No need to overwork yourself or the others of your team.

Mmmm yummy postgame. Can't wait for a chance to catch Arceus protected by some uber-strong team.

Your statement implies that shit cannot be considered neither edible nor nutritious. I know of at least one individual that would disagree.

This right here. Whenever I look at the canon games, even platinum/emerald... i can't enjoy them anymore.

Reborn/Rejuvenation/Desolation are just on a whole 'nother level several times over compared to them! Field effects are such an obvious feature the canon games should have had for so long, especially when you see that kind of stuff happen in the anime all the time but it took them until gen 7 to even add any type of terrain, period.

Nowadays the only teams of 6 mons you find in canon games are either the final rival fight, the champion or maybe some fisherman with 6 magikarp (which puts up more of a fight than the other two...)

Where is the challenge in canon games? Hell, I'd take a difficulty mode. It can't be that hard for them to do. Keep the current free win difficulty as normal but add an "expert" mode or something like what black/white had (even though it was horribly botched in implementation) where the gym leaders had more, stronger pokemon with actual competitive items (sheer force life orb druddigan was an actual fun challenge)

Keep doing what y'all are doing devs, I love you all for it!!

I only know this from messing around with debug mode and the poipole you get for completing the dex (which I did) but legends and baby pokemon (and some others maybe) have 3 perfect IVS guaranteed. So you'd just have to reset for the IVS to be 31 in the specific stats you want.

I love the idea of having to fight/solve a difficult battle/puzzle to catch a legendary. Would it be more believable perhaps to have rival trainers or Team Meteor admins looking to catch the legendaries instead of anomalies? Maybe El wants to catch Arceus, for example, and you have to take him on before battling it yourself. Anyway, I love pain, so bring it on!

Thank you, Ame and andracass, for perfecting this masterpiece of a game.

Canon game mechanisms (don't remember which gen brought it), involve this. Baby and Legendary/Mythical pokemon, all have 3 guaranteed perfect IVs.

    First of all: Good morning

Second of all: we love you to death.

Third of all: We will most likely curse you and 3 generations of your family while battling.

We still love you and this lovely box of suffering you made for us to play in.

    I have but one question.

Will we have to wild battle the legendaries immediately afterwards, or will we have an opportunity to save and heal first? Either way, I'm stoked!

And this is why I love Reborn. There are actual challenges to overcome which require thought, planning, blood, sweat and tears! Mostly tears!

I'm very excited for this. Keep up the good work!

So...you're essentially making legendaries a larger hassle to deal with among breaking free of catches despite low hp and status?

    Just to watch us suffer?!

I love this! I'm sure no one here wants to walk up to a Mewtwo and just throw balls at it anyway!

That being said, gimme those Lucario and Salamnce mega stones and I won't care about these legendaries nearly as much <_<
