Stage 68 done after much pulling of teeth over what seems like like a week. Fuck this stage.........I can not say this enough. I'll take dealing with Makai bugs again rather than this bullshit. I'll post the extra stuff here and put my bitching in a spoiler tag at the bottom. Pardon my language here, but that last bit put me in a bad mood.
Side note: Might have to consider upgrading past my normal comfort zone, since this series is much harder than a normal SRW game. Also, very big thank you to @epicNecro for getting me the translations for the boss' Spell card and Danmaku field effects! Going in confused would have made this quite a bit harder.
Shinki's pic and attacks
SpoilerSpoilerInteresting note: Most of her attacks are directly inspired by the true final boss of SRW 2nd OG (and to an extent it's component, the final boss of Alpha 2 and 2nd OG- defualt route).
Pretty cool reference overall. I love what 2nd OG did with this plotline (and how regal the new Gun Edan animations are------though the Adamatron blows it out the water, partly because of references/allusions to past SRW timelines).
Her second to last attack seems somewhat based on End of Evangelion's Unit 1 (third spoiler tab). @Wolfox Don't know if you ever got around to EOE, so watch with some care.......not that it matters THAT much without context----it's just an attack.
SpoilerSpoilerSpoiler(timestamped to right spot)
Interesting note 2: With her allusions to Satan and being called the "Creator-God of Makai", there seemed to be quite a few people who imaged she would be the final boss of FMW 4 (or at least the final canon character boss)..........this is just going by a few threads I found, but had to mention it.
SpoilerThe first part of the stage is basically a mook rush with a mid-boss accompanying them......though this mid-boss is the same menace from stage 65, who can support attack herself in addition to having two moves per turn. Although I planned on mopping up most of the mooks first, she dashed that plan on turn 3, when she activated her only spell card. I was considering dropping the skill point of capturing all the spell cards right there, but her gimmick would have spelled doom if I left it, so I spent a good deal of resources to take it out in one turn......might not have been the best move but I didn't lose any units.
Bats return this stage with twice as much HP but still having a terrain advantage and annoying hit/dodge rates. I tried to send 4 of my dodgest units to solo each of the four sections of bats.....it kind of work. Nue and Byakuren soloed their sections (including the other bulky boss mooks); Sanae kind of did it though some bats ignored her; and Reimu took out most though left a few near death (which makes them more dangerous). The first enemy phase took so fucking long each time because of the sheer number of bats that had to attack; and damned if the same bat didn't hit Reimu on three completely different tries at this stage (at 14-20% each time)
The bulky bosses (large Doofy Ghosts and large Eye Bats). Both have annoying movement restricting Danmaku fields, with the Eye bats also sapping 1000 HP from whatever units are caught in the field each turn. While the past few stages the stray large ghost wasn't a problem, 4 piling on at once with post-movement MAP attacks was Hell; you don't get a chance to counterattack that way, which only prolongs the problem.
I thought that like other harder mook stages, battling the actual boss would be easier.........nope. Even on the lowest Hard difficulty, Shinki still casts strike every turn..........right before using a MAP attack (though she cast Mercy as well, so none of my units above 10HP died from it); then she could attack again, though thankfully not with a MAP. With how pressed my resources were by the first part of the stage, I was running low on SP for most of my units (though not all). I thought I could get by and capture all the cards still..............until her third spell card.
Then Shinki started using her NEW MAP attack twice per turn......and she didn't cast Mercy on the second one. Pretty much killed half my attacking units in one go. That was when I said 'Fuck it". I re-loaded a backup from before I took down her second spell, loaded up most of my units into the ship, and retreated until she timed out her third spell. Taking down just the final spell was actually fairly simple, since I wasn't trying to be conservative.....I got the item, which is enough for me.

FINALLY was able to take down all the mid-boss class mooks.............so many restarts and soft resets just getting through the first turn's enemy phase EVERY time. I am really behind where I wanted to be since this stage has been taking so long.........and this is on the LOWEST Hard mode sub-difficulty. I guess I could have upgraded some units above the halfway mark, but the last thing I want to do is have it be an easy run like SRW W.........then again, that is one of the easiest SRW games, even without heavily upgrading a few units.
I was going to abandon the skill point, but then I decided I would be more likely to get through the stage if I took down the actual mid-boss. That chewed through more resources than I wanted to spend, but I got all my units through that meatgrinder.
Now to take down the main boss of the stage...........who has 4 spell cards (essentially 5 HP bars with four gimmicks attached). If worse comes to worse, I'll just skip the skill point and time out all but the last one (since I am NOT missing out on an item).
And just because here's Byakuren's attack video, since I haven't been able to post anything but complaints about this for the past few days (and I don't want the stage commentary to be loaded with videos). At least @SilverHelio will like the music. Even through I know it's supposed to be a Super Sayian reference, I can't help but think of Yang for her three 'Superhuman mode' attacks (start at about 1:10) @Wolfox @Alistair.........part of it is probably the hair length and the projectiles from the first of the attacks.

Once again, not sure why I find this so hilarious. Probably a combination of the scenario and Adam actually having a funny line
SpoilerNo one can resist the Bellabooty

And I find out a new patch for FMW 4 has come out as soon as I am about to restart the stage...........the developers explicitly label it as the 'final version' (if the translate extension I have is reading it correctly). Might as well update.
