[IC] Trespassers of the Multiverse: Director's Cut

Hal Henderics

"Oh, beautiful. Maybe instead of engaging with the Lung, we could just have a friendly barbecue." Harry muttered. He was surprised to note however, that most of those who had come along were actually doing jobs competently, and didn't seem to be just trying to attack the big flaming luchadore. Self preservation perhaps. In any case, Harry decided that he could best be of use by hanging back in the direction where evacuees were being directed. He could treat anyone who had been stung or burned in their exit, and maybe talk down anyone who might be panicking.

Harry stays back, waiting for the evacuating civilians. He will inspect them as they pass for wounds, and heal one of them ((I'm wondering if I maybe should have invested more in DEX. OH WELL.)) He'll also try to keep up a stream of calm steady instructions and reassuring dialogue.

Spoiler

Kit for this combat:

  • Slap on Bandaid and call it good enough: Heals one target by 1d4+INT

  • Disinfect: Remove all statuses from a chosen target. 2 turn cooldown.

  • Wolftech Kevlar Polymer Synthesis Heavy Ballistic Infantry Combat Armor: Grants +5 RES, but at a -2 STR penalty.

  • Survival of the fittest: For 1 round after Harry uses an action on a target, that target gains a 20% boost to a stat of their choice. Does not proc on multiheals.

  • Carbide Survival Tool: Basically a Bowie knife with a decent number of other small tools stored in the handle. Deals 2d6+STR damage, with an INT*2% chance to crit for double damage.

  • D'Arnet's Modern Military Medical Procedures Digital: Whenever Harry is faced with a problem he is having difficulty with, he consults this eleven thousand page book on his compad, where there are clear and concise instructions for unusual situations, with even speculative ideas about Xenobiology. Harry may be brilliant, but even he needs a compilation of all the knowledge he can get. Grants +3 to INT when treating wounded.

Spoiler

Mirri brings Blaster Volley, Set to Stun, Force Telekinesis, Force Leap, and Meditate on the Lost to this encounter.

Mirri considers her options briefly, and paints everyone armed she doesn't recognise with her HUD.  She doesn't have any way to fix the buildings, there don't seem to be nearly as many civilians as she'd feared would be near.  So, the first priority is to reduce the available threats.  So she starts pumping stun bolts into Gangster Group A with Blaster Volley (1d3 + int damage, nonlethal, fires twice, 40% miss chance), aiming for those of them who are carrying weapons.

Void of Incomprehensibility: The Ambassador can choose to over charge his personal field of chaos to the point where absolutely anything can be used to distract others enough to trigger mass change blindness and cause him to effectively disappear and become unable to become the target of any single target actions. Rather unfortunately every single time the ambassador does something extremely noticeable (For example, attacking an opponent or being the target of an AOE attack) he must make an opposed check to stay in stealth, and he takes a malus for every single success. He can choose to immediately end the stealth effect at will, and this ability can only be used once per encounter

A.G.I.L.E. system: The Ambassador's power armor comes equipped with the ability to climb up walls and "fly" in short bursts when inside a planet with Earthlike gravity, he can choose to temporarily overcharge this system and add his Intelligence to his Dexterity or Strength stat for two rounds. Three round cooldown.

MS-MUN3 Plasma Blade: A basket hilted plasma sword with the ability to quickly retract and extend it's bright red plasma blade in the blink of an eye. The fact that the plasma streaming out of the hilt actually follows the hilt when you swing it and remains in the shape and form of a blade is a small miracle of science. The fact that it only deals 2d6+Dex damage with the damage being treated as fire damage is...disappointing to say the least. The Ambassador can change the color of the blade by simply fiddling around with the settings, but he really doesn't see the point in doing it that often...it is mostly meant for ceremonial purposes after all.

Voice of Reason: Roll twice and use the highest result when rolling for anything that could count as diplomacy.

R.O.L.L. Defense System: The durable suit of power armor has been designed in such a way that lets blows glance off the user if they were fast enough to get out of the way, adding +Dex/3 to their resistance stat rounded down.

The ambassador ran towards the nearest building at break neck speeds as he typed something into his right gauntlet in order to over charge his A.G.I.L.E. system. This allowed him to soar above everyone else when he repeatedly jumped towards the nearest building before he attempted to jump towards a high enough floor and wall climb the rest of the way.

If he managed to make it inside he would immediately look for some Civilians to evacuate.

Use A.G.I.L.E. System on his turn to try and reach the nearest building and break into it before trying to find some civilians to evacuate.

Pausing, Somatotrope rephrases what she said, trying to bridge the contextual gap. "It's basically... A tiny Handcannon that shoots tiny pellets at high speed, has about 10 or 20 shots before you have to reload it? Think of it like... A slingshot, but it can kill a human in as little as a single shot, through most armor that isn't either as thick as a tree or made of special materials."

"The easiest bombs to get here aren't really for the explosion, but are kinda like guns too, We call them grenades, and they are essentially bombs covered in metal parts, when the bomb goes off, the metal fragments fly out at incredible speed, usually killing anyone close enough to them."

"There's also Plastic Explosives, and a few other things, I think there's a Tinker up in Oregon who makes Spray on Explosive Putty, but that isn't cheap, if you are just looking for something concussive."

(CHECK) Somatotrope and Arminus arrive at the Warehouse, seemingly unscathed.

"Well, here we are, Home Sweet Home.  There isn't too much here, considering I haven't done anything with the place yet."

Within Spitting distance is the topic discussed a while back, the Boat Graveyard, Arminius might see through an open Garage Door in the warehouse.  Closer now, one can see that it is something very dreary, even without intentional design, the sight evokes a feeling of hopelessness.  A graveyard to man's works and freedoms.

"You! Yes, you!" Harry shouted to one of the passing civilians. "Do you know who either of those guys are? By which I mean, the walking barbecue and whatever's controlling the bugs." Perhaps he could get some small bits of info from these people. Bite sized chunks of course, no one would be able to remember much in an emergency like this, however, it would also be a time of more unquestioned obedience towards authority, and people might not question why they had to tell some stranger all this stuff.

Harry stays back, waiting for the evacuating civilians. He will inspect them for wounds as they pass, and attempt to administer first aid.  He also asks that one civilian who these people are.

It wasn't that hard for Proditor to notice something while his mind focused on the Masked Man... Specifically, a rolling wave of fire that rises up from the ground up towards him. Instantly, his mind switches it's entire focus, memories of the past flowing into his mind,

Spoiler

Plasma flying through the air, hitting vehicles, buildings, enemy soldiers... Even civilians. Chryssalids roaring in the distance as they neared on their prey, and the distinct sound of other Mutons charging through the hail fire of the Human's military, woefully under prepared for their forces. Proditor himself stood amongst the carnage, floating idly in the middle of a street, surrounded by his Elite Guard. It was the first time he had decided to walk onto a battlefield while it was in play... And it was not at all what he expected.

Screams of victims as they are torn apart by Chryssalids and Berserkers, or blasted apart by a Sectoid's pistol... Or even suffocating to death by the toxins present in their Vipers, or Thin Men, as the Humans called them. All around him, vehicles lay in smoldering flames, building falling apart from fire and plasma marks. The Humans were even using the flames themselves, using it to burn the hordes of Chryssalids coming their way, and while it WAS effective, it did not stop the rest of their army for long. Proditor could even see more well designed structures, landmarks and buildings clearly made as landmarks for Humanity... All burning and crumbling away. History lost to the flames.

For his guard, and other soldiers, Proditor seemed to take in the flames with nothing but a calm gaze. To his race, he was the same tactician they always knew, now made more experience from seeing a battlefield up close.

Only he and the Angelis knew what really happened with his mind.

The scars of the blaze.

Instantly, Proditor lashed out, sending a clear wave of bright purple, psionic energy out towards the wave of fire, like a sword. However, where it dispersed at first, the flames merely reunited, continuing on their course and blasting Proditor directly, causing him to fly back, not from the force of the fire, but from it's mere presence. His mind was racing now as he forced himself to think, noticing the bits of fire now burning his cloak, which were quickly extinguished by a (hastily) concentrated force of psionic energy. He could feel several burns underneath his cloak, however, which he knew he could do nothing about.

But, he knew there was something he still had to do.

So, forcing his will and mind to the task, Proditor refocused his attempts on the Masked Man, mask still releasing the same light it had been releasing before. He had curb this fear, lest it controlled him here.

Proditor, after getting Vietnam Flashbacks, tries another Mind Fray on the Masked Man.

Ambassador Jun was a flurry of movements, calm and easily understood commands, and reasonable amounts of door slicing as he did his best to try and get as many civilians outside of the building as possible by trying to get them to help with evacuating others.

Once that goal was accomplished, he would ask the nearest person standing outside "Do you know the people who are fighting outside? And what can you tell me about them?".

Move 1: EVACUATING INTENSIFIES. (Make a Diplomacy roll to try and convince civilians to help out with evacuating the other civilians and use his passive Voice of Reason ability to roll twice and use the better roll, continue evacuating normally)

Move 2: Ramp up the evacuating and try to make another go at convincing civilians to evacuate other civilians if he failed earlier.

Move 3: Move on to the nearest building to evacuate people.

Satomi took another moment to scan the course of the battle, noting that things had taken a turn for the intense; though the buildimgs were not taking much more damage, the potential for the, to do was growing. Civilians were beginning to leave the buildings, a stream of people that her newfound allies were ushering away to safety. The man in the mask underwent strange oni-like mutations, growing scales and claws as he roared and burned. It was a lot of variables to track, and Satomi only knew the basics of strategy, the courses of her dojo she'd paid secondary attention to at best.

But Satomi was good at tracking variables. Extremely so -- juggling a great number of calculations in her head was what made Satomi such a prodigal engineer, and she was certain that she could narrow down the best course of action to take. Attacking the masked man was clearly a poor idea, and the questionably even damaged houses were clearly not the present priority. Of the two more damaged houses, Satomi remembered that one had had fewer people escape from it; assuming relatively equal numbers of dwellers, it was likely fuller, and was what she needed to focus on.

Satomi rushed over to the building and performed the same ember-scraping she had before, extinguishing embers and dropping the, to the dirt with wide, practiced move, ents of her short sword. It wasn't very pretty work, and her wakizashi would surely require special maintenance later, but it did its job, and therefore allowed Satomi to do hers.

Mirri swirls her cloak about herself, and attempts to use it to extinguish the flaming gangsters.  It's made of fireproof cloth, so it should be able to smother the flames.  Better to arrest them than to let them die.  (Mirri has a stack of Rage, and so gets -2 on the check).
