  1. Very cool! Didn't expect to get such a gift from you guys! Is there a list somewhere with all the changed animations? I'd love to check out the new ones directly!
  2. Am I the only one who feels the story and its characters have gotten a bit convoluted? Its something I've been feeling for a while now, but the situation with Nim has really made me feel like characters have gotten out of control in this game. I feel it is a symptom of the episodic releases, where we are away for some months, then come back to massive character development minutes into the episode. Not that any of this is bad, but how have you managed it? Is the story written to completion already with structured plans and finales for all these characters? I worry that introducing so many characters in so many different contexts will be very overwhelming when, down the road, some one tries to play through this fully released game in a couple sittings.
  3. You should understand the basics of rpgmaker and Pokemon essentials to make something like this possible, but if you are just looking to edit typing that's pretty straight forward. All you really need access to is the reborn pbs files. Edit the types then recompile and that's that. You've modded a major change I to the game with just a bit of typing standard words. No coding or anything else required.
  4. Right, its certainly not a poster-child for speedrunning or other competitive runs. I think the biggest thing would be the length of the game though. I was honestly surprised to see you had done it sub 9 hours. That alone is impressive. I can't imagine playing through the entire game in one day, so I can only imagine how many sessions it took you to get to this point. Either way, I think it would be amazing to see games like Reborn take the next step in their media presence. Let's plays are fun, but I'd love to see things like speedruns and other challenges populate the different pathways for sure! Keep up the good work!
  5. Very excited to see people taking this amazingly well designed game into the competitive sphere. I hope to see this continue to evolve and improve. Glad to see you laying out ways you can improve as well. Looks like the gyms themselves are the real problem here? I'm excited to watch the splits when I get some time. Hope you and others continue working on ways to speedrun this game!
  6. You should instead look into the fields more. I think a lot of people overlook the possibilities there. Really, Reborn is tough, but its nothing that should challenge you past an extra hour of team building. Collect as many pokemon as you can, and plan your team around the gym. When playing Rejuv on intense, especially in the early days, I learned to manipulate the fields as the main strategy and it greatly enhanced the fun. Many can be transformed or manipulated to your advantage, and I find it very fun to set up a win condition, even if it takes a bit of luck. As much as I like to think Pokemon is a puzzle waiting to be solved, some times you get lucky and unlucky. Don't be deterred. Improve, and you'll be happier for the result.
  7. Agreed, that team is extremely poorly designed. Try a more balanced one, and consider the original mantra from the good ol' days of Pokemon: Gotta catch em all! There are various ways to circumvent grinding to train as well. If you have questions, I'm sure the regulars here would be more than happy to assist!
  8. I see now, thanks for the advice! Some very interesting work you've done here, thank you for helping me understand it and for being willing to pass it along selflessly. Keep up the amazing work!
  9. The recent Wild Encounter rate mod seems extremely interesting to me. I have yet to try it in game, but the description makes it sound like something I would really like to implement in most games, especially one I've been working on on the side. Hope I'm not being too forward when I ask if you'd be willing to share an explanation of how I could implement this into my own game? I'm just finding out about this modular package style and don't fully understand the .rb files and how they work with essentials yet. Is it something I can load up myself and learn about, like the old mods? Does this work with essentials v16, or is it something exclusive to 17 and up? I appreciate any help and if you are willing to share let me know what credit you'd like to be listed, if any. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
  10. Just wanted to say that it worked perfectly! Thanks SO much for your assistance. One last question though. Should I be using a different variable for every route? The script will always reset it to 0 no matter what right, so I don't need to use a different one? I was just worried if the player checked on one route and had say 5/10 then went to another route which only needed 5 would it accidentally give them credit if they had 0 from that route. edit: also, if you or anyone else knows, how will this interact with species you caught then release etc? It still counts right? I assume its checking if you have ever owned it, not do you own it currently. Anyway, thanks a ton! Hope this helps others as well.
  11. Thank you very much for the help! That seems like a good solution for sure. I'll give it a try and see if I can get it working, but yes that is exactly what I wanted to do!
  12. So in the game I have been working on, I'm looking to implement a reward for catching every pokemon species on a route. I'm keen on offering a heavy diversity of Pokemon, especially early, and I also have incentives and randomization in place to encourage the player to use many teams and catch many pokemon. What I can't figure out how to do, however, is add an incentive to catching every species on a specific route. I'm thinking about maybe some type of cash reward, or even something like a masterball or some rare candies? I haven't gotten that far yet. Either way, is there a way to accomplish this? To be clear: If a route has 8 different species present on it, I'd like an NPC to offer you a reward after you have caught all of them and you speak to him etc. I hope the bright minds here know, because the usual place I'd have gone is no longer usable (RIP.)
  13. The issue with playing as ana then turning into marianette still happened to me. Does green mean it's meant to be fixed in patch 1 or just in a patch still to come? Is there a way to fix It? Don't mind playing as marianette tbh, so no big deal.
  14. Has Burmy been removed from Route 2? Still says its there via headbutt on the list but I've been headbutting trees for a long time now and have yet to see one.
  15. One really fun strategy I employed in the past was for the water gym. At first I used shedinja as 4 of her Pokemon had no move that could hit it. After that was patched to be impossible I switched to a dry skin parasect and basically healed to full every turn with leech seed. Very hard counter to the field. Really that's what I love doing in this game. Manipulating the field. There was something you could do with narcissca as well where you could change the field to a holy field and just absolutely obliterate her team. Love that stuff.
  16. One of my favorites on the replay was Bennett. I hit his first super hard with a rock move then when he starts over powering me with quiver dance I swapped in a Pokemon with a move I can't remember now. It copies the stat differences though. Anyway I bet he was feeling pretty nervous when that happened. He's powering up a butterfree and I'm powering up something for free with much higher base stats lol! That felt like a serious victory and reminded me of why I love Pokemon fan games.
  17. It's a big departure but the only thing anyone could think is immoral would be the piracy element. It's not like amethyst is taking ash and having him jump off a bridge. The pokemon themselves aren't what's for children. It's the story that's important.
  18. My recommendation for things to do with episode 16: Close the program and download 17! Gen seven hype!!
  19. A friend of mine wanted to try a 2-man let's play that alternated save files. We were gonna do a rom hack, but the day before we started I was searching something like "pokemon fan games" instead of rom hacks like usual and Reborn came up part way down the page. At that point I didn't know what RPGmakerxp even was let alone that you could make games with it lol. When we downloaded it we were trying to figure out where the patch was for emerald! Honestly, finding this changed my life. I was only mildly interested in Pokemon at the time and only because of his videos. Now its easily one of my greatest passions!
  20. I would just get acquainted with how to use rpgmaker or the sandbox patch for reborn. This type of manipulation is essentially cheating anyway and the amount of time you can save or fun things you can potentially do have dramatically improved the game for me overall.
  21. Ya that aligns with how I would do it. Like 20 some pokemon as spool to choose from. I like your idea there too. A good addition to the plan. But the stitch is how to do it. Any ideas on how to either find a way to make essentials do it for me, or some logical alternative that won't feel too gamey?
  22. Look up thundaga on YouTube. He will teach you almost everything you need to know.
  23. The Pokemon fan game community has been something I have been in love with for quite a while now and its always fun to play through the games that come from it. Especially with a game like Reborn, I find myself playing through it dozens of times over the years. One thing I always like to do is try to make the playthrough interesting for both myself to play but also potential onlookers, and the thing that currently intrigues me is randomization. I've been toying around with randomizers on the main series games and am also aware that it is possible with RPGmaker and rom hacks, but something I've always wanted to try was something that allowed me to randomly select which Pokemon I WOULD USE. Randomizing wild pokemon is nice because it forces me to catch and use ones that I usually wouldn't play with, but after a few badges I find myself using the same 6-10 members as I would have anyway, minus the odd legendary. Ideally, what I would be after is something that will clearly and randomly decide my team for me that I can utilize at my will to add for a more random situation. Here are the ways I am seeing it play out in my head: 1. A script or event in RPGmaker that does it for me. It can take 6 Pokemon from my Box and put them into my party every time I chose to run it. Or it can simply suggest six by placing them in a separate box or in some way indicating them, perhaps through text or images popping up on the screen. Would likely work best for single Pokemon at a time if possible. OR 2. an outside tool or modification that allows me to randomly select team members instead of RPGmaker. My ideas in the past have been to number each slot of the box then use a random number generator to select slots OR to add every single Pokemon to my box using the script from the Reborn Sandbox then use the Random Pokemon generator websites out there to make the choice for me. The problem with the first option is its not very obvious which slots are which and it confuses people (and my self some times) because I have to make artificial rules to make it logical. The problem with the second one is I have to heavily cheat in the game and that's not really that fun either. In the end, all I want is the Pokemon I'VE collected organically to be randomly chosen by something other than me to assure true randomness. Is this possible? Do you have any ideas that can make this a reality? I know there are a lot of talented and creative individuals here so I am hoping to hear something that can help me make this type of playthrough a reality. My idea for it would be to do a run were any time a Pokemon died I would roll the randomizer to pick a new one out of my box for me and have to use that, sort of like a Nuzlocke but with less limitations. I've also considered randomizing a new team of six for every time I complete a major section of the game, like a battle with a gym leader or an evil team admin etc. Anyway, thanks for any advice you guys can give!
  24. So deeply sorry guys. I 100 percent did not mean any offense to either of you. What I was meaning there was that it would be relatively easy for an idiot like me to add it to my game lol. At no point was I insinuating your effort was weak. I had it in my head that it was something super invasive and would require tons of script changes, but then when I saw it alongside the others here I thought it might actually be doable for me, as I am very new to this whole thing. Keep up the good work guys. You and anyone else advancing this community are the reason I am here asking for help. Sorry again!
  25. Reborn feels a little more put together and focused. Rejuv at times seems all over the place, as if jan is constantly realigning the characters. The introduction of the spaceia character a few episodes back is a good example. Just don't know where he plans to take all that. On the other hand, the sprites, tiles, and tech in general are way ahead in rejuv. I like the characters in both games a lot and have spent hundreds of hours if not closer to thousands at this point, but ultimately I think they each have strengths and weaknesses when compared. Best to wait until they are both complete to compare though. Seems as if a lot will change by then.
