DID I DO A GOOD?! [SPOILERS AHOY]
Monochrome_Complex replied to Lord Chespin's topic in Rejuvenation
Texen is a massive ass for no actual reason, he's like a jerk just to be a jerk. He's kind of like Blake but while Blake was actually pretty funny texen just makes me want to punch him in the face. -
Finally finished episode 6! Oddly enough Amber was like one of the easiest members for me since I had seismotoad and Swagsire with electabuzz to set up a light screen, though I hate to restart twice so quick claw rain dance could activate lol. She's basically Charlotte lite so nothing really too difficult. if you played Reborn especially back when Charlotte was harder. The geara/Zetta battle I thought was harder(I was getting crit hax'd like crazy that fight), as was the valor eli//sharon one. In gym leader difficulty current playthrough at least I'd have to place them as Valerie > Marianette > Crawli > Narcissca > Venam > Amber > Angie > Keta

i was going to say Ho-oh or Xerneas. Vivillion counts if we count every variation as one.

I typically find that the show's actual setting is a big part of this. Black Lagoon is a perfect example of this. The show does not take place in Japan(well most of it doesn't) and has a wide variety of characters with different ethnicities and backgrounds English is simply better suited to the show's script since people are generally more familiar with the different accents of English that would feel natural with such a varied cast, not to mention that they're technically speaking English within the show's setting anyway. Baccano for much of the same reason, actually even moreso since it takes place in the US. Language use is another thing. I feel like shows where characters swear a lot or use a lot of quick witted banter tends to sound better in English as Japanese...well frankly there's a lot more interesting ways to curse someone out in English than in Japanese and word play humor in Japanese is lost on foreign audiences; it's not going to be funny if I need a translator's note on like every other joke lol. Again, Black Lagoon demonstrates this quite well. Not to say the JP version wasn't without swearing but the English version turns it up to Tarintino levels and the show's dialogue manages to benefit from it. English Revy is definitive Revy. Yuyu Hakusho's English script makes Yusuke downright hilarious. David Jojo on the other hand, I cannot see the English dub surpassing the JP one except for maybe Iggy's voice(which frankly is crap, I don't care how famous his seiyu is, she doesn't even sound like a dog half the time and she's only good during the Petshop episodes during his inner monologues) and D Arby's whose old OVA dub was the best Darby and easily the best dub voice out of the OVA alongside Dio(not saying much really lol). A lot of the dialogue and delivery works fantastic in Japanese and stuff like rerorerorerorero just isn't going to have a good equivalent, my guess is that they will just keep some phrases and such the same. Casting is a big thing too. I know DBZ is rather divisive on the dub vs sub thing because JP Goku is highly unpopular with much of the Western fanbase, and frankly I don't blame them as it ruins the character for some when he still sounds like an 11 year old. Steve Blum and Crispin freeman almost always outdo their JP counterparts so I find myself preferring dubs when they have a major role. Shows I prefer dubbed: Black Lagoon, Hellsing/Ultimate, Cowboy bebop, Yuyu Hakusho Shows I prefer subbed: HxH, Naruto, Jojo, nearly every anime movie pre-2000s. Berserk anime is weird, because the acting is very 90s anime but English Zodd sounds a lot more intimidating(except his hilariously cheesy YOU CANNOT ESCAPE, YOUR FAAAAAAATE line) and English griffith sounds exactly how I'd picture Griffith sounding. This is an example where both languages do a good job and you don't really lose on either one. I do think in the 3rd movie both Guts actors could've did a better job during the infamous Eclipse scene. They didn't sound angry enough.

i never found Terra as easy as people claim. In every playthrough I've done so far she's taken me like at least 3+ attempts. Freakin Swagsire, screw that guy. And Claydol tanks hits like crazy. flobot is usually the easiest and I get her first attempt but this last ground/steel dual run she's ruined my playthrough because there's only like 2 pokemon on my team and it's hard. Luna is the easiest of the post Shade gym leaders but I think her Tyranitar is harder now since episode15.gave her an assault vest.

Only clowns that don't even play sonic and jumped on the hatewagon bash anyone for liking Generations or Colors I've realized. And Heroes' hatedom has died down a lot since it's become nostalgic for a lot of younger players and isn't even a bad game, just corny. Now 06 and Shadow? Fair game because those sucked. Unleashed is weird because for all its flaws it was the first step to getting the series back on track Lost World is meh and sonic boom deserves every ounce of ire thrown its way, only saving grace is that Sonic Team didn't develop it. People get too insecure based on what a bunch of bitter strangers over the internet say lol.

Who's the Worst Pokemon?
Monochrome_Complex replied to Daniel Blackworth's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
He was like the first monkey shown? Well Pansage I mean, but they play off the 3 wise monkeys theme so only having two would be dumb, The evolutions are based off Japanese subcultures, with Simisage being based off the Yankii one, hence his pimpin' pompadour. -
RIP Saturday Morning Cartoons
Monochrome_Complex replied to Darvan Korematsu's topic in General Discussion
Adventure time is fine but the era of copycats it produced is a very love it or hate it thing, I can understand hating what it brought alongside its success because it really changed the kind of stuff cartoon networks put on now. Personally I don't even bother anymore. I can still remember when Pokemon used to air on WB 4:00PM pacific and when Ash first fought Blaine being aired, school the following day was hype. Also when Digimon first aired(it was totally Fox riding off pokemon's success LOL)and Monster Rancher was on channel 13(same trend, although Monster Rancher was pretty legit actually. Mu was BOSS and Tiger of the Wind was <3). I really miss Saturday Morning cartoons as well, TV these days just really sucks IMO but with Netflix and the like I just use those instead. I can recall when Toonami showed more than anime, when it had its midnight run, when Tom got intruded and died, then came back with a six pack lol. Gundam wing, used to come on Outlaw freakin Star, Zoids, Tenchi, Kenshin...man. Though when Toonami would go on its Dragonball whoring that was kind of annoying. Like at one point DBZ would come on 6 times a day, I kid you not. -

I think team dynamic is a big part of the story. Like what is Team Bio's goals in relation to the player? To the rest of the region? Gen 2's Rocket is a very weak team IMO(the worst in fact) because they have relatively little connection with the player, just sort of being stopped time and again by circumstance. In fact your rival had bigger reason to deal with Rocket than you did. Hopefully you can avoid that mistake. Also character designs are a big one too.A lot of fangames with regards to gym leaders just say, put blonde hair on a electric gym leader and make them peppy, which is lame. How does each type correlate with the leader themselves? I find that adds a lot to them , like Charlotte's connection with fire is very well done as it's intertwined with her backstory and character, really making her typing fell fitting and sensible.

Ame jeez, what can I say? This is just...wow. But seriously, just know, no matter how dim things get for you, there's always, someone out there, us if at the very least, who wouldn't such a beautiful soul as yourself to lose their life to despair or or self-worthlessness. And wow, I had no idea you were transgender, though I knew you weren't a dude lol. Hmmm but I think today so many of us become victim to the wrongs of humanity that we forget just what we as humans are really worth. I believe mankind's greatest aspect is their potential, in their potential to do incredible good or become an evil that surpasses that of even the most wicked of imagination. To damn humanity because of the wicked and their seemingly endless potential in the ways they can wrong one another, I realize is to not only forget those who try their hardest in doing well and right, but also holding yourself back from what you can do as it's harder to invest yourself in a world you hold contempt for and above all, fear. The quote earlier in this thread, the one where animals are happier than humans because they accept their natural order or whatever, I have to disagree. Animals could never experience the happiness of getting one's degree, the happiness of falling in love, the joy of celebrating a friend's birthday, the elating success of beating that one boss in a difficult game, playing online in your favorite videogame, sharing endless laughter with friends, sharing with your family your baby's first :"daddy" or whatever,, etc. They don't possess the level of thinking we as humans have, the ability to surpass instinctive thought, to create art and culture, change the landscape to house entire populations, to connect across the world instantly via a computer, what humanity has achieved, right or wrong, is something no living thing on this planet has ever achieved. If anything, defying natural order and wanting more, questioning that status quo and outright changing it is what has allowed us to come so far. Our potential as humans is something that should be appreciated and never forgotten, for it is something that exist in each and every one of us, but first and foremost something we are fully responsible in how its used. I believe it was also mentioned how society is progressively declining... How exactly, and at what point has this decline started? Is it when beating the ever living crap out of your wife as she was your property no longer became acceptable? Is it when public lynchings of "colored folk" on saturday afternoons went out of style? Homosexuals and trans having their voices heard now has triggered a path towards dystopia? That white supremacists losing power more and more day after day bringing the world towards inevitable apocalypse? That "culture" or "religion" is no longer a valid excuse to basically be a child raping, bigoted misogynist POS because your internalized mockery of a God says it'll get you in heaven? That now we need to actually take some freakin responsibility for the crap that comes out of moths, or more often these days, some social media post? There's a lot of garbage in this world, and a lot of change that is still needed, but modern society has shown that there's some serious effort being made in order to create progress, and that while we have a long way to go, since the road to improvement has no final destination, something at the very least is definitely getting done. But the moment we go, "oh it's too hard, the world sucks, screw it" is the moment we've thrown away any hope of anything getting better, and even worse spitting in the face of all the sacrifices made in getting us this far. Truly, the human soul is the world's most beautiful thing, even if the most terrifying. Never forget that you possess this, and never willingly throw it away.

See, that's a big problem then. If the field will remain the same(hopefully not) then Jambro at least needs to allow you to go back and catch earlier pokemon. This is bad difficulty in that it's punishing the player for not playing a certain way and even making the game near unbeatable without exploits. My biggest issue with Rejuv gameplay is that sometimes the difficulty really does feel "cheap" in that you're tossed against a very difficult battle with little way to prepare beforehand or are sent against an enemy that outmatches you in such a way that required knowledge beforehand or luck is needed to win. Hoping quick claw activates is what I'm starting to find a lot of these later boss fights are turning into which kind of sucks. Valor mountain has become one of my least favorite moments of the game because it has like 3 different moments of this exact thing happening, plus the annoying trek back if you black out. I get you want to make the game challenging, but not all challenge is good challenge.

I think Arclight is a member/leader of the E4 or the champion. His name even kind of implies having some sort of high position. as for his subtle presence so far, remember that in X/Y Diantha hardly did jack all during the main game yet was still the champ. In fact even during gen 5 the gym leaders did more than the actual E4 story wise.

Let's make up our own "Mist Stone" evolutions!
Monochrome_Complex replied to CURIE's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
The Charcolt/col is hilarious now that MegaCharizard X has essentially become exactly it. Fun fact: did you know that gastly is the spirit of a cloyster that died in overpolluted waters? That's why they look so similar and gastly is a poison type.. Well, in generation 2, there's a way to bring gastly back to life in such a way that he becomes an even stronger version of Cloyster, which has been given the name, DIEVALVE by fans. First of all, you need to have a gastly in your party, UNEVOLVED and make sure it has the move destiny bond in its moveset. You will also need the sacred ash which you get from catching(or robbing) Ho-oh. Now go to the shrine in the Ilex Forest at nightime between the hours of 12:00am and 1:00am with gastly as the first pokemon in your party. Give it the scared ash to hold, and then Interact with the shrine 4 times, and on the 4th try a message saying, "Do you wish to make an offering?" will appear. Answer yes and you will be prompted to leave a party member there, which you can't get back until the next day, but make sure it's the same time and you have an open party slot of course. When you return, the pokemon will have been "restored by the embrace of time," reverting them back to level 1 but with the same stats they had before being left at the shrine, allowing you to essentially level your pokemon infinitely and relearn missed moves. You can leave any pokemon there but we're only interested in leaving Gastly so go ahead and leave him. Once you return the next night and receive gastly, you will notice that the sacred ash is gone! If the ash is gone, then you did it correctly. Next time you level him up, he;ll evolve into DIEVALVE. Supposedly if you used a mist stone on Gastly holding the sacred ash while knowing destiny bond during midnight hour, that would get you DIEVALVE as well but I've yet to anyone confirm it as the mist stone was like nearly unobtainable unless you lived in Japan I believed. DIEVALVE looks just like Cloyster, but instead it has red eyes like gengar, has fog surrounding its shell, and its shell is a darker shade of violet closer to gastly's line. It's still a water/ice type but its stats are improved, now having Gengar's speed and special attack, a special defense that's fairly decent(90) in addition to its already fantastic defense, making it an absolute beast in battle. Also it keeps whatever moves Gastly had, but since it's a cloyster it sadly can't learn many good moves on its own, meaning you might have to teach it ice beam via tutor(crytsal version) blizzard or surf. Oddly enough, it also seems to be able to use TMs Gengar can learn, including stuff like thunderbolt and shadow ball, while keeping Cloyster's TM learnset in as well. The variety, speed, defense and sheer offensive potential of this dwell hidden pokemon makes it a definite secret worth checking out. credit goes to bulbagarden for the info. -
No thread on anime openings would complete without JOOOOOJOOOOOOOOOOO! There's some spoilers on the last opening, but a lot of it won't make sense anyway unless you know the context, plus it's just freakin awesome either way. Stand Proud and Bloody Stream are my favorites overall though. Star Platinum punching the screen to the beat is just too sick. Outlaw Star. One of the hypest opening songs IMO for probably my favorite sci-fi adventure anime. Ergo Proxy. Beautiful song, and in English(not Engrish) too! Also well sung! I love this opening a lot, even if the show is a bit pretentious and not for everyone(but interesting nevertheless). Serial Experiments Lain, this actually got me liking Boa somewhat and is another beautiful piece. It's a theme that really sticks with you. Late 90s/early 2000s had some incredible music in anime I notice. Hellsing. Ah the opening that will terrify any Christian granny. While fans agree Hellsing Ultimate blows the old anime out of the water in most ways, one thing the original DOES do better is the killer soundtrack(i'd argue atmosphere and early pacing as well), which is one of my favorite soundtracks and remains distinct even today. In fact, Ultimate realized this midway through and even used an old soundtrack for one of its endings. And it's awesome Record of Lodoss War white knight chronicles. The anime is generally considered inferior to the OVA(which is pretty good) but the opening is quite wonderful. Better than the actual show itself! Air Gear is probably the closest thing you can get to Jet Set Radio anime. The original anime itself is decent if not fun, although it ends before the manga's best parts(but then again also ends before the manga's worst parts so eh) on on a rather unsatisfying cliffhanger. That said the opening while not fantastically animated still has great music, in fact the entire show's soundtrack is definitely similar to Jet Set Radio and rumor has it the composer is one and the same. Peacemaker Kurogane isn't the best adaptation and is decent at best but the opening song is pretty hype. Street Fighter V(American) okay usually I'm not a fan of removing vocals for instrumental themes during localization but this one is definitely a change I can forgive. Like despite being basically a glorified AMV in a way, this theme works in a way the original doesn't. It feels more natural to the show itself, it's in your face and intense, it syncs well with the visual, and gets you pumped for the show. It sounds pretty badass and for a street fighter anime, that's what you should aim for. Last Exile TBH I thought this show was boring but this opening is incredible. Blood+ op 1. I never watched the show that much(weird since I actually saw the original movie beforehand) but this opening stuck with me anyway. It's incredible, the singing, the music, the animation, just really gets you interested in it. Beck opening is really fun, and very catchy too. It's kind of cheesy but in a fun way Michiko to Hatchin op is marvelous and the colors are just beautiful. It oozes soul and really embodies the show's personality. Noir is another show I never watched but whose opening absolutely entrances me. I hear it's pretty good, or was at least back when it was out. Endings I'll cover in another post. But seriously, I love watching anime opneings/endings. Unlike most people I usually don't skip them unless they're terrible like new HxH(2nd ending was cool though) or Berserk's which is like one of the worst openings ever IMO. Tells you nothing about the show except it has a big man with a big sword coupled with horrid engrish and terrible guitar playing. PUT YUR GRASSES ON NOTHING WILL BE WONG. BTW, Berserk is a legend manga, and the original anime has one of the most emotionally wrenching ends EVER. 8 HxH madhouse's op is pretty divisive as you seem to either love it or hate it(like me) but at least the animation kicks butt. But the Greed Island old OVA(which is the worst HxH animated adaptation yet BTW, so QUALITY it hurts) opening is HILARIOUSLY bad. It's made on a budget of like 12 yen or something because my god it's the ugliest, shoddiest opening I've ever seen. Worst part is, it's entirely accurate to the OVA itself. Thankfully they got a second version that actually looks really good for early digital anime. I think it's one of HxH's best ones actually.

Gen 3 vs Gen 5 Tiles - Which side are you on?
Monochrome_Complex replied to Caz's topic in Resources and Tutorials
Gen 4 overworld sprites > both TBH. Gen 3 ones are ugly IMO, gen 5 only works well in a 2.5D environment and looks strange sometimes otherwise. -
Keta is easy though? Only reason I lost against dead Keta was because my pokemon were all beat up from the path to him lol. Marianette is really really hard without a strong fighting move. Valerie is just ill balanced.
-
Also walling Flobot with curse grotle doesn't work because of dumb stuff like pin missile(which does a lot sadly) and slowly dying to sand tomb's gradual damage. I guess if you're using a lot of potions yeah but crits are always a threat...

The Ones Left On The Table: Worst Starters
Monochrome_Complex replied to Chase's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
People bash chikorita but if you chose totodile as your starter back in gen two bayleef was an absolute monster to beat with razor leaf in the 2nd rival battle. I recall that being my first major struggle in silver version. Early game razor leaf HURT back then. -
Alright confession, I started a normal monotype run for reborn but never finished it, due to realizing how boring they are to use by themselves. There's quite a few I really like, and STAB returns are wonderful but jeez they're not too fun to use since types are a huge part of pokemon and normals can barely take advantage of it! The ghost immunitty makes it really neat as a mixed type but otherwise...meh city.
