Hardy must have been like either a tactical genius back in the league days or should've been the first or second gym leader if he's rocking lunatone/solrock lol.

Thing about Wallace is that in the original gen 3 games he just seemed like a flamboyant bishonen. Effeminate yeah but also a real ladies man with Juan as his teacher further emphasizing that. Not quite gay level which is why I really dislike his ORAS costume as it brings him up to Tucker's level of flam which kind of changes his character somewhat or at least give off the wrong impression. Maybe it's supposed to be sexy, but it fails at that and just looks ridiculous lol. I didn't know about the beauty thing, that's pretty funny lol.

^^Yeah you're right, flamboyant is more the word I'm looking for. Like we know the games aren't going to outright say, this character is gay! or this guy has aspies! or something like that, so instead GF is more subtle with it by hinting in via their mannerisms, design, backstory etc. I should clarify that with N those characteristics don't necessarily mean someone's autistic but that it's Pokemon's way of implying to the players that N is quite possibly somewhere on that spectrum. As for Burgh though...lol he's the most fabulous trainer in pokemon since Tucker. Like we don't see him engage in homosexual activities but it's not like Nintendo would put that in explicitly anyway. They kind of do enough to at least give off the impression that Burgh is possibly gay, as its his mannerism coupled with his design sort of makes it hard to not consider. It's not completely out of the question that he is since the pokemon anime has had several heavily implied-to-be-gay characters on it, James being kind of an obvious one lol. Idk maybe he's bi. But fact is the franchise is no stranger to having gay characters play a role major or minor. I'd even go as far as to say Burgh's Jewish too or whatever pokemon equivalent of it is but that's just fanwankery on my part LOL. Gen 5 is my favorite gen overall and the characters/story were a big part why, something Z has a lot to answer for.

Megarchomp will be for our last rematch with Solaris I think. I don't think Ampharos or Charizard not being dragon types despite being literal dragons(GF logic) prior megaevolution matters or else Ciel wouldn't be able to use MegaAltaria since it's no longer flying.

The opposite factor - A Dark/Fairy run
Monochrome_Complex replied to The North Pole King's topic in Team Showcase
He decided on dark/fairy then? Master of tricks I suppose, since fairies are known to be tricksters in myth and dark types rely on trickery. Good combo. And OMG that Teddiurse <3 That was such a wonderful art series. I'm doing steel/ground duo run ATM, it was quite challenging at first but it started to get better post Flobot once I got Diggersby tho. Every gym leader has beaten me at least once with Shelly being the hardest man screw Yanmega! I feel like she's going to give you a hard time too, probably way harder than with me. If you can get pawniard from the Police quest, consider yourself lucky, as Pawniard is pretty legit. -
100% blizzard accuracy isn't so laughable when Blake keeps freezing you off it lol. Take into consideration too that it hits multiple opponents unlike its counterparts which i think is the major reason Hail isn't on GF's priority buff list. I think it could use a buff too.

Heather will have Megamance I would think. Saphira will have MegaCharizardX or MegaAmpharos instead. That way it isn't riding on Dragonite's territory. Amaria might have Megaslowbro yeah. In fact I'm sure of it since amnesia was something of a move heavily associated with Slowbro back in the day and Amaria has amnesia lol. Hardy will probably have Megadactyl or Megatyranitar. The latter because of sandstream, the former because it's gonna be the only fast pokemon on his team and I don't think we'd have archeops on two leader teams. Titania will have Megascizor I'm thinking, but Megamawile is a possibility too. .

I thought Keta was the most forgettable myself, even with two battles. Crawli actually kicked my butt a couple of times lol.

The opposite factor - A Dark/Fairy run

People always forget about Klink. You can get him before fighting Flobot. You could also do like me and have a team full of them + your starter lol. Good luck though. -
New Zygarde and Greninja forms!

That's another disappointment in X/y: a pokeball factory and not a single voltorb inside. Like jeez that area was such a letdown.- 118 replies

People need to understand that understandable and justifiable aren't the same thing. Just because someone has reason that makes their actions understandable doesn't mean they're justified in making those actions. I feel Team Meteor isn't justified in the people they've hurt and lives they ruined, so even if they have a "BUT IT'S OUR ONLY WAAAAAY" reveal which I feel is coming up that doesn't excuse what they've done or absolve them of punishment.A lot of them really do deserve to die for what they've done, harsh as it is to say it. I'd be pretty disappointed if Team Meteor didn't get their come uppings, although I feel Sirius will since he seems outright malicious and not just ends justify the means.

The mysterious voice: your guess?
Monochrome_Complex replied to Monochrome_Complex's topic in Reborn City
Star Ocean 3, known for having one of the worst plot twists in JRPG history. Google it up if you dare but it'd completely ruin Reborn's story for me if Ame pulled something like that. Terra saying it's a baby arceus could be metaphorical and it is Jirachi, since Jirachi can grant any wish and theoretically create a new universe or at least have it created via some way if someone so desired it. In the way of functioning as a world creator, it could be considered a "baby arceus.' Plus it's white too like Arceus and sort of fits the "came from the stars" thing., It could be a literal baby Arceus, but idk that seems a little too blatant. I'm more convinced it's Jirachi. -
New Zygarde and Greninja forms!
Monochrome_Complex replied to ScuzBrains's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
If this is all true, Zygarde became like 100x more interesting. I always felt Xerneas and Yveltal were kind of lacking as far as legendaries go though, because their lore seems rather poorly done I think that's a crucial aspect of a legendary's design, and Xerneas/Yveltal seriously has no impact all story until the climax where it just sort of pops out as a deus ex machina. I blame that more on Kalos in general being underdeveloped but I think they'll be able to do more with Zygarde, although it's going to be hard to explain away why he wasn't in action during X/Y when Flare was trying to kill everybody. I think GF kind of screwed up here because it's going to be hard to explain that AND where Zygarde was the first time the kill flower cannon was activated.- 118 replies

The mysterious voice: your guess?
Monochrome_Complex replied to Monochrome_Complex's topic in Reborn City
What if "baby arceus" is really Jirachi though? And Reborn's world is just somebody making a wish for a new world? I would be mad if we get a SO3 thing going on lol. -
Noel is definitely aspergers or autistic. He kind of has that vibe. WOW NOEL YOU'RE AWESOME "yeah." Not exactly well versed on social interactions there. Thank you much? lol. N is implied to have a subtle form of autism. He spoke unnaturally fast for a pokemon character, saw everything in equations and was more than a bit socially challenged. Though it does make Ghestis calling him a freak and such a lot harsher in hindsight. Nintendo are just wimps to this kind of stuff because of their reputation as a somewhat conservative(not poltically conservative lol, just in general) game company which they're still having trouble shedding the image for. You still have the Kidtendo rep flying around even today because of it.. Granted, I do think pokemon itself is one of the more progressive franchises under its belt. Burgh was pretty blatantly gay in mannerisms, the cast has gotten more diverse since gen 5(characterization still could use some work though ugh gen 6 WHY) and N was probably one of the better handled autistic characters i've seen in a videogame. Too bad gen 6 kind of went backwards in characterization though. I do hope Z builds off where gen 5 was going.

So you know the mystery voice that appears at the end of the Citrea de whatever arc and during Terra's gym challenge, the one who says something along the lines of "that was fun! let's play again later tee hee" or something like that, right? Who do you think it is? Well looking at the museum you come across this: The Ivory Beast Beget its light And through a song in the darkness was the first breath breathed into like creatures. The song in darkness part leads me to believe that meloetta may be this voice, with perhaps her sinnature move(relic song) ability being this song mentioned in the legend . For one thing, the voice has the speech style of a little girl or child, which meloetta resembles. Another thing is that Reborn kind of seems to want to give lesser used pokemon in the games more focus, and Meloetta/Arceus didn't get much actual importance in the game, being something of an extra or background lore. This does make her quite likely to have some bit of focus in Reborn. Also being a normal type she could possibly be used by El later on, maybe even against her will as a PULSE mon, which would be kind of awesome. My other guess would be either Jirachi or Celebi, and the latter would certainly fit with my "Lin is from the future" theory. What are your theories?

Let's Discuss Hunter X Hunter!!!!
Monochrome_Complex replied to Monochrome_Complex's topic in General Discussion
Honestly once the hunter exam starts proper I think it starts getting good. In fact I actually consider HE arc one of the better ones and it has some real creativity to it. It's more like Dragonball in the start having a more adventure feel rather than the heavy emphasis on spectacular battles, although there's no shortage of those either. Madhouse admittedly kind of nerfed that arc somewhat and the 99 version while slower to start first few episodes does a better job with it overall. Jump to Madhouse HxH once it's finished though. Or if the 99's animation is too dated for you just do Madhouse's from the get go which does kind of get you to the better parts of the show more quickly anyway. It's not like most shonen where it's all POWAH LEVELS POWAH LEVELS up until later which is another reason I kind of like the hunter exam arc a lot as a lot of it felt like it it emphasized the actual hunter aspect of the show rather than the Nen aspect which dominates it later on for better and worse. That said the nen system is well thought out and interesting regardless and really fleshes out the world well. I'd say to watch the show until the end of the Hunter exam and then decide whether or not you want to go from there. This is another reason I kind of prefer 99 for the Hunter exam arc because it's not as rushed and gets you to know the characters better. I know Gon looks kind of dorky with his green short shorts(and admittedly the show does have a few homoerotic undertones lol) but the main cast are pretty well written and designed even if Gon himself gets shafted on his powers. Such is the fate of enhancers, unfortunately. Oh, also, do you know Yu yu Hakusho? The guy who wrote HxH also wrote that show, which is a fantastic shonen as well. If you like YYH(which you better ) then HxH at the very least will keep you entertained. . Here's a short vid from an early fight on in the 99 version, not a whole lot of spoilers(unless you watch the 2nd part of the fight afterwards on another vid) but it showcases some impressive animation and gives tiny glimpse of the show. You can notice the variety of character designs in the audience, the scale of the fights(no DBZ-tier stuff until way late in the series) but still quite dynamic, a slight feel of Gon's combat style and how the hero won't get wins very easily and usually ends up in a tense struggle somewhere along the fight. Again a very small glimpse but seeing this clip kind of got me into the show since it seemed a lot more intense looking than I thought. The 2011 version has even more consistent animation since it's modern day, although that 99 sequence stands out in particular for it's fluid direction. -

Emolga and Pachi tear up the early-early mid game with nuzzle/electroball combo. Voltorb is not too shabby either since it can set up screens and outspeeds like nearly everything as Electrode which is great in setting up light screens, just know he's rather limited in his offense to electric moves and mirror coat.
-
You haven't played 15 then!? TBH I kind of think 14 is harder in gym leaders(especially Charlotte) save for Luna who is still pretty easy anyway and Serra who went from easiest midgame leader to still not that hard but potentially aggravating. Shade has been nerfed yeah, I feel unnecessarily so, Corey is much easier since he has shadow claw, Trevenant is even easier than Gourgeist I feel, doublade is too slow and Banette can be potentially annoying/dangerous(dat destiny bond and cursed body) but is still pretty frail.
-
The problem with Val is not just that her field is OP'd, but that she can basically ruin your run if you don't have the right pokemon for her on your team by that point since you're stuck on that silly island. Honestly if we were allowed into the jungle or something to catch more pokemon it wouldn't be as bad(which you could do before and I have no clue why Jan changed it).. You shouldn't have to reload an earlier version of the game to beat her, which unfortunately some players had to do because they didn't have any pokemon to beat her with. Not even old Charlotte was that bad, Valerie was seriously almost broken in how the match could end up unwinnable.
-
They kind of are a part of her character though. It's a prevalent detail when we meet her during the Rescue Heather segment as she seems to rely on them to help keep herself together(she does have a lot of weight on her shoulders after all) and even uses it to inflict a burn on Sigmund for revenge. It's even her badge's symbol and pretty fitting for a fire type specialist. The smoking I feel is kind of an important trait of her character, and yeah I don't think 14 year olds should smoke either, but Charlotte's not the kind of girl who does the proper thing all the time anyway. It's much preferable than PEACE YALL while she's roasting your team. Bring that cigarette back.
-
Try to get something with flash fire if you can, and something that has a terrain changing move(ampharos or heliolisk with electric terrain, mist, etc). A lot of times a simple change of scenery can a difficult battle that much easier.
-
^^Didn't that event get removed orsomething?I cant trigger it any more. And how much your electric move gets bonus'd off his starting field is partially luck. BZZZZTP!!! gets you like sweep power but bzzt...does barely any more than normal. Plus Trevenant isn't free to Pachi like you're making him out to be.

Nothing is better than seeing a character you absolutely loathe get wrecked in a brutal and awesome way. Admittedly i hate stupid looking super forms. It's like "ugh why".
