Alright this has happened for the 500th time where my laptop has decided to kill itself again. There's an extreme software corruption and despite me having my antiviruses up to date it reboots from time to time and erases all data. Looks like fate has dictated that I'm not meant to post runs... I'll just stick to posting around the forum instead. I might seem not too depressed about this which is because I've had this happen to me too many times, and I now know that I am in dire need of what they call an external hard disk. My extreme stupidity is unpardonable and I hope you find it in yourself to forgive me for this. First thing I'm going to do is buy a new laptop... Sorry folks, who were following this. You have quite some good Pokémon there... But you need some fast mons for a balanced team, IMO. How about Compound Eyes Galvantula (Bug/Electric), Sawsbuck (Grass/Normal)? I'd also recommend Hawlucha or Mienshao as fighting types are great fast offensive mons, hitting five types for super-effective damage. (Hawlucha hits 8 types hard and is really fast + Swords Dance + Acrobatics, yo) Also you need to build a little more resistance to fighting and ground. Plenty of great mons that should suit your needs, including ones you've never thought of using. Torterra is great for tanking physical hits. Perhaps a Trick Room team with two more slower pokes? So many options out there.

Chapter 3: Too short to be called a chapter, tbh So let's get back into this without further ado So we're finally able to get out of this ward and head into another one. I swear I didn't know what a ward was until I played this game.. Good god lady What does "extraneous" even mean? So now we're clearly upper-elite personnel capable of taking down city-wide threats. With 5 Pokemon below Level 20. No wonder this city is going to the dogs. As likable as Reborn is, why doesn't this place have an anti-terrorist organization or capable police force? +1 for meme reference, dude What else is new? ... Rhetorical question? One thing that I do to solve this problem in Reborn is check whether any of my party Pokémon that can learn that particular HM know a move that is reteachable by TM: ie., for Amaria I had Greninja learn Waterfall and Surf in place of Grass Knot and Dark Pulse and once I got past the waterfall, I retaught him those two moves with TMs overriding the HMs. It's actually pretty helpful that HMs can be forgotten any time in Reborn (don't know if this applies to the later Pokémon games).

I don't really have much of a say in the matter, but I'll weigh with this: HMs are annoying yes, but they've been annoying in the main games as well. ... Yeah that's it. That's my opinion. As for changes I'm pretty okay with things the way they are, there are a lot more things in the game I find way more annoying than this. Obviously it sucks that you have to run back to your PC to pick up a Pokemon that knows that HM move, but it's not really THAT big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, imo. Hey, c'mon, that's not fair, it's quite different from what he was trying to say. Sometimes we get lazy typing out all we want to say because we assume the other person knows what we're talking about and so we just omit things out of our post. I'm guilty of it too. We all are. In no way did he say or insinuate that forum users are intellectually incapable of understanding what he's trying to say. So, think twice before calling me rude. I'm obviously not the rude one here. And I don't find that rude at all, actually. A Stun Spore and Screech later, Fern switches back to Sandile again. So tl;dr: the AI’s making him switch everytime I use stat lowering moves... Pussy. Stun Spore, Bite, Growth, Bite --> KO Oh? Gotta say that I don’t like this transition very much… Snivy fit more with Fern’s personality than this cute little birdie I mean just look at it! Assist us O great queen of Westeros! ... Gosh Reborn is creative Might as well do this for now RIP At this point one may argue I switch into NinjaFrog to finish this battle off once and for all, but Sirius needs some serious experience to take on Julia Thankfully this turn Sirius isn't double teamed, Rockruff (female) uses another field boosted Thunder Fang and Rockruff (male) hits Sandile with a Fire Fang. Sandile retaliates with a Bite, knocking out Rockruff (female) and as of this screenshot, Sirius’ Bite is still pending. ... and did quite some damage! FUCKING hell I always forget these boss fights have potions ...but it was of no use, double bite killed it anyway PUSSY! And as usual, bad guy plot armor. Sigh Well, this part of the story is no different. Sirius (the trainer) is beaten and forced to flee, resulting in Julia blowing up the factory. Quite a nice way to end things, right? If you agree, you're as bad as Julia. And speaking of Julia Time to take her on! Ugh this battle is not gonna be easy My only tactic is grinding Sirius to 18 for now... More like "fainting" Ha.. ha.. ha.. Frigging poison didn't let me get any experience either At times like these, I UNLEASH my secret weapon! BEHOLD THE POWER OF SOFT RESET Those were all very difficult battles and barely any experience. Man Reborn is unfair in dishing out battles Back to the "grinding stone" I guess Hehehehehe ... One day I will be violently stabbed for my poor pun making abilities I wonder if I should catch a second Purrloin to make my battle easier, or is that cheating? Either way I abhor extra training so down with you! Huh why? I still have so much to learn about Pokemon… Finally we get the firepower we need! So the one thing left for me to do is switch up my abilities a bit. NinjaFrog is in dire need of Protean while Sirius works best with Moxie. Having the one ability capsule, I am forced to make a decision. I think I'll give it to NinjaFrog since Sirius requires 2 ability capsules to get the Moxie (Intimidate --> Quick Feet --> Moxie) ability and Intimidate is handy in itself. For other mono. Quick Feet also could be useful, considering the paralysis common in this gym, but in the long run it's not something I'm keen on. Although it could come in handy against Corey's Crobat. Anyways... Yo, Jules! I'm curious to know her new team as of E17. Will it be more difficult than E16? Interesting… I have no idea what attacks she'll use, will it try to thunderwave me first or go for the Charge Beam like in E16? We will never know. I bet this thing is gonna Sonicboom repeatedly and explode when it can't handle my wrath Missed a screen there, Julia withdrew her Voltorb and sent out Alolan Geodude (interesting) immediately to regret it. Get rekt Jules! Hey look who's back! And look who fucked up AGAIN! Wow the trainers in E17 sure love to switch Pokemon around, even if it advantages us. Sirius loses around quarter HP to Aftermath. She also has the useless optimistic twin of the rodent we just killed. This battle should be called “giving me free and easy kills” If Sirius had Moxie equipped he’d solo this entire gym, Electrode included. I wonder if you’ll give me a free shot at Electrode by switching again, Jules? Considering Electrode’s speed I’m not sure if Sirius will be able to outspeed it… Unfortunately she's learned her lesson :/ Plusle ended up a tad more defensive than Minun, Bite somehow got it down to 1 HP, after which Julia used up one of her Potions. Bite #2 took care of this ball of positivity Going to switch here, I'm not fully convinced Sirius can outspeed and defeat Electrode. Flower uses Poison Gas, followed by a Charge Beam, raising Electrode's Special Attack stat. This could pose a problem.. I hope this is the right thing to do. I could have whittled it down with a couple Quick Attacks from NinjaFrog but I’m not sure if it's faster than Sirius, in which case, a +2 Charge Beam on Sirius could hurt badly (assuming it gets another boost when taking down Ninja Frog). It turned out to be faster, so I did the right thing Still poses a problem, tho… Let's hope this works. Missed screenshot, a missed Sonicboom! YES! At this point I've literally just started, didn't fight any trainers but 3 that stood in the way of the location (the ones shown in the screenshots) of where the dark Pokémon were at, and the 2 other trainers were Cain and Victoria. Sooo I'm back. For those of you who remember me, sup. For those of you who don't, I had a grass-monotype going on until my laptop broke down and all my save files just... yeah, it's depressing, so I don't want to talk about it. I want to show it. However, there will be a freshness about this for me since I haven't gotten to play Reborn from the start with the Gen VII mons, so it'll be interesting to see all the new changes. Unfortunately, I’ve got to just prod through all of that. Me trying to avoid trainers... This game of stealth isn’t too hard tbh oh fuck A master of darkness is no master of stealth, it seems Hrnnnh I swear trainers stopping you is equivalent to harassment, really “Yo lemme stop you real quick to fuck your already tired mons up with my fully healed ones" 5 pokemon battles in totality and 6 levels increased… whoo, finally! Not surprisingly, this is where all the dark types hang around, according to the guide ... and bags of trash They’re pretty high levelled, has it changed from the last episode? I didn’t really explore this area the first time I played this, so I’m not sure. I am getting better at this. These aren't too bad imo, although Rattled ability would have been nice Holy hell these pokes are high levelled I think could probably beat Fern now with these levels. Can't think of anything more apt. KNEEL BEFORE YOUR QUEEN I'm not a huge fan of the speed loss but those stats look really good, and I've gotten a pretty useful ability for the first gym. So, that's it for this episode! I’ll probably defeat all the trainers in our area (while making doubly sure we don't go past the level cap), get one last mon and get to the story part of the game asap before we get on to the next episode. @Wolfox I guess in that case it comes down to each individual and what they're motivated by. An easygoing "let's become the best Pokemon trainers!"-kinda rivalry is too juvenile for my tastes. I really didn't bother EV training or breeding while facing Barry (hell, I didn't even give a fuck about natures), while against Fern I made sure to EV train a full set of 31 IV Pokemon just so that I could nuke that sonofabitch. (Although to be fair it's probably that Reborn is much harder than the official Pokemon games, but I take special pleasure in oneshotting Fern).

You replaced Froakie?? How can you do that to THE frog? Protean Greninja EV invested 2HKOs nearly everything xD

I do have a Magnemite already, just haven't trained it yet. I'm a very OCD player so I've done all the sidequests and been very patient and deliberate with choices, no worries. But thank you for the answer and your advice, just reinforces that what I'm playing the right way!

I'm surprised that Croagunk is a problem for you when Skuntank isn't.

@Wolfox guy who wants to rub it in your face. The whole "friendly rival" thing doesn't sit well with me because you could honestly care less whether you're better than them or not. On the other hand, a rival that thinks he or she is superior to you and claims it all the time is more aggravating which makes you want to defeat him all the more - and that, my friend, is what pushes you to your limits. I probably have what you call a skewed perspective of life, but on an emotional basis, what Fern does is better you as a Pokemon trainer.

Is there a way to obtain EV reducing berries in this game? I'm having a hard time with the second gym leader May not be available this early, but still would like to know when I can start EV training. Also without spoiling, how much further until I meet the daycare peeps? Before the next gym? Before the fourth badge?

@Guzam considering how much he impacts players in the game and how much hate people generally have for him, I'd agree, that yes, he is a good character, well developed because he is super effective in triggering people. I still hate him though.

@andracass well I hadn't really thought of it that way, but for me it's more of a soft spot for the downtrodden than just liking things out of spite, despite what I said in my first post. I don't like it when people just dismiss something just because they have a few negative qualities, but oh well, people are different I suppose. Of course, it'll be fabulous if everyone tuned in on the same wavelength, but that's not how human beings function, is it? It all boils down to how much you can accept that and be tolerant, which I admit, are qualities I do not possess.

I was in the same exact situation as you but was a lot less mature about it xD Thankfully a member came to my rescue On topic, I'd recommend you to go through with it as you'll see different characters with different teams like @Zargerth mentioned and you'll probably come up with a new team and new strategies to counter the said differences. Having an entire region worth of new pokemon make it all the more exciting since there are new ways to catch them (event pokes, for example). Updated movesets, slight dialogue changes are also reasons for you to go through with it. Good luck!

A little too cheesy for my tastes, but hey if it's fun reading and you're enjoying yourself, by all means go for it. Before you get your third badge, hmm... That would be before Shelly, so it narrows down to the orphan girls eww, pedo who's that other girl who escapes from the Orphanage? Laurel? Laura? Also Heather? Shelly? The only "safe" options are Ame, Amalia, Julia, Florinia and Victoria. Victoria doesn't seem like a likely option considering her obsession with the Cal schmuck but looking at your linear character development in the story I'd say there's a high chance that she falls for guys with fire pokes. And who better than the guy who saves the day, Wolfie? I'm spending too much time rationalizing about who your potential girlfriend is when you're actually making your own story in the process xD Good luck!

A ghost run with Decidueye in Reborn? Awesome. Wondering if Gen8 will fill in the remainder of the 18 types available for the starters (Rock, Ice, Electric, Dragon, Normal) so that every type of monorun is possible in Reborn, perhaps in Episode 19 xD
