"No trouble at all," the hooded man says before taking the lance and vanishing into the forest. Meanwhile, the soldier decided to respond to Karik's comment.

"I'll have you know that I was acting in self defense. You were the one swinging that axe at me. And who is this Cadence person? Eh, sod it, it probably doesn't matter much, you're probs just gonna off me the next chance you get. So much for being let go," the soldier sighs, glaring at the spy behind the pirate, the one who decided to chase him down.

“Nah, not really.” Karik looked down at the ground, thinking about the words of the Lancer. “That’s not how I like to go.” Looking towards the forests, Karik snuck away into the trees, making sure he wasn’t in vision of any of the other bandits. Checking to make sure the man didn’t have any hidden weapons on him, Karik let him back on his feet, pointing towards the south-west.

Karik had a small smile on his face as he directed the Lancer. “None of us are gonna fight someone without a weapon.” "Well, most of us, anyway" Karik nodded his head as he spoke. “None of the bandits will come after you if you sneak away now. Get out while you still can.”

"Well most of the other bandits seem to be dead, so I don't see that as an issue. Still though, I suppose this is fine. A little miffed that you smacked me with an axe and stole my weapon, but I'm at least alive and you didn't seem to be striking to kill in that last blow. Unlike that spy fellow over there," he says, frowning in the direction of Belros. "That guy's gonna get it one of those days, but I'm probably not the one to do it. Anyways, I'm outta here," the soldier finishes, limping off through the forest.

"So then, you've managed to bust through all my hired men and women and get to me huh? Well I'm afraid I'm gonna have to shoot you down. One clean moneyshot is all I'll need to take care of you lot," the bandit leader boasts, pulling out her bow in preparation.

She smiled ever so slightly as the arrows tore through the woodwork opposite the clearing and left the merc boi over yonder bleeding. She'd noticed him well in advance- it had been hard not too with the Spirits actually doing their job and maintaining a vigil. He'd been a relatively small threat though, at the time, something that could be dealt later if needed, or easily evaded after initial contact.

And now, he'd become even less of a threat. But even as she crept forward out of the pines, she didn't let herself lose track of the man's pained movements. Even if a sane and logical man would be unlikely to further risk himself by attacking a fully armed and able-bodied opponent while near death's door, each and every last one of these violent morons they'd put down thus far had proven that they weren't dealing with sane and logical folk; she knew the fool was just as likely to try and charge as he was to simply stay his ground and lick his wounds.

Regardless however, none of that mattered terribly much now. She began examining the site, looking for any sign of disturbed earth or other such methods of hiding loot, meanwhile the spirits kept their own watchful eyes on the bleeding swordboy.

Looking into the clearing, she finds a shield on the ground that seems to be relatively new. Most likely, this was a place where the bandits kept some of their treasures.

That shouting. Rayne wasn't really paying enough attention to make out what she was saying but she figured, terrible one-liners before actually doing anything of note... probably not on their side. So, Rayne figured it was time to once more do what she did best, use her throwing arm. "Come on Beau, let's give her a taste of our best technique!"

"Alroight Girlie, but you should know better than anyone else... I was born ready.~" the horse snorted, happy as can be. He gave as much a smile as a horse could give, lookin' more like an overconfident smirk.

"GIGA RAYNEBEAU OVERDRIVE GO!!!" she shouted as her and Beau made their valiant charge towards their foe.

"Sorry to disappoint you, but the only shots a piece of scum like you could even get is a dagger to the throat. Speaking of which, that is a perfect payment for all the hassle you and your men have caused us." Belros rushes up behind to her and aimed his dagger up to her throat. But right before he does.  "You know what, your lackies caused my ally Cadence some real heartache earlier so here's a tip for you!" Belros then aims his Dagger at her left Kidney before aiming to slit her throat.

"Well that's dealt with. It looks like the other bandits who were still around left," Madante states, noting the 3 remaining people on the battlefield besides the Guard leaving the area. "I suppose with the boss dead they don't have a reason to stick around. Speaking of which, we should try to get to Gateon Port soon, though we may have to camp out on the way," Madante notes. After gathering the rest of the party, the group travels down the road for a little longer until it becomes nighttime. At that point, Madante brings out some of the gear that they received from Samuel, and starts setting up camp.

"Looks like we're going to be staying the night out here for now. Shouldn't be too long before we get to our destination, though traveling further now won't do us much good. Time to settle down for a bit it seems" Madante cheers as he starts setting up a fire.

"Heh Yea, I feel the same however unlikely it maybe. They kinda remind me of myself in a way, minus the whole robbing people with threats of death." Belros chuckled a bit being filled with fond memories.  "I guess I was more of a child pickpocket rather than a bandit out for blood."

He's glad all the fighting is done. For what it's worth in combat experience, it taxes much more than it provides. Upon seeing that the man he had shot had not intended to be any sort of threat, he'd lowered his bow, keeping watch on him in case he chose to change his mind. But with the calls from the east indicating that the others had made short work of the bandits' leader, the man had simply fled before Idei could mark him. He could only hope that leaving him alive had been a good choice.

Once they've established some semblance of camp for the evening, he's grateful for the pause. Kite's weariness outmatches his own; the stress of the day hasn't left the stallion unscathed, and he's breathing hard through his nostrils from trekking through the undergrowth. A little ways apart from the others but still close enough to the gathering to catch scant murmurings of conversation, he tends to the dark steed in the half-light. Tired like this, Kite even seems docile, and he simply stands quietly, tail occasionally whisking, while his rider washes him down with a cloth as best as he can to clean the sweat and grime from his coat and mane, speaking softly to him all the while.

Karik grabbed a few twigs from the ground near some trees nearby, handing them over to Madante for some fire wood. Tossing his axe, club, and hatchet to the side, Karik sat down beside the fire, next to Madante.

Karik looked down on his red cloak. His only personal garment for so long, it had been a miracle that it’d still in a good enough shape to at least be wearable. Still, it wouldn’t be long before it’d need to be replaced with a new set of clothes for him. Of course, clothes did cost money, which the young one didn’t exactly have easy access to at the moment. Shaking his head, Karik looked for something to take his attention.

Karik_No_Way.png

“Huh, I got this from one of the enemy swordsman.” Karik spoke to no one in particular as he took out the sizable blade he had on him. A part of him wanted to try wielding it, maybe playing around with it now. Karik shook his head, disagreeing with himself. “Eh, Aye’d bet some idiot would hurt their shoulder using weapons they dunno how to use.” Stabbing the sword into the soil, Karik watched Madante set up sparks.

Zn4783x.png

With the night came a chance to finally rest. All day, she'd spent mulling over their situation, as the spirits muttered aimlessly among each other in their own little discussion, and though occupied by her own thoughts she may have been, one repeated topic caught her attention, over and over again- Orders. What to do about their orders, whether the orders were worth following, what would happen if they disobeyed. There had been times throughout that she'd felt the urge to shout at them all that they could go ahead and try to desert if they wanted, but she knew well enough they weren't talking about any command she herself had given or even could give... Eventually though, they had all faded into silence, one by one. Whatever they'd decided, she knew not, but she'd been glad to have the chatter gone nonetheless.

"Karik, don't do that to a sword." She called idly as she passed the young Pirate... or former pirate and the commander, "Sticking it in the ground is one of the fastest ways to ruin the point and edge."

With that said, she unloaded her own gear next to a fallen tree not too far from the fledgling fire, tossing her coat atop the aging bark and the twin blades atop it not long after. What really interested her was the shield she'd... confiscated earlier. It was iron, that much she could tell. surprisingly fair craftsmanship, in decent shape considering it's most previous owners had kept it out in a damn clearing with the rest of their junk... hell, she couldn't even see any signs of rust setting in. Whatever poor sod they'd taken it from must've been axed fairly recently. A shame, really... to die at the hands of violent morons like those. Not that she could talk much, she quite nearly had herself, infact, she still couldn't decide whether it might've been better if it hadn't been so nearly...

"If you're going to give it to someone, give it to the commander. Or just hang onto it till we get to town-"

The spirits laughed at the sight of yet another blade stuck in the earth, all but too gleeful to see the destruction of such a hideous and dreadful weapon. Nasty metal sharpened to an edge with a pointy bit for stabbing things- why mortal men resorted to such base means of defense, when powers of so much greater magnitude existed practically all around him, they knew not, but it still was foolish in their eyes regardless. Foolish enough to bring amusement...

Besides, why did Cadence care so much about the sodding thing? It wasn't one of her weapons, her life continuing wasn't dependant on it remaining in functional shape and ready to strike down a foe at a moment's notice. It was just another ugly bit of hardened metal that primitive fools used to slash and tear into each other, oblivious to how much easier it would to blast their enemies apart by manipulating the very fabric of reality around them. Just because she was stuck using such primitive means of self-defense herself, did not mean she was under any obligation to feign that she liked her situation.

Yes, yes... there was no point lecturing him. It wasn't her sword, therefore, it wasn't her problem.

"On second thought, nevermind Karik, forgive my overbearance. Do with the thing.... as you please. The Anima has a point..."

As night fell and the group proceeded to make camp, Darius seemed...distant. Quiet. His mind still focused on the moment when he went into sync with the elder spirits and struck down the bandit in such a fashion. Among other things, he felt that such an act would cause others to fear him, maybe even turn hostile on him.

The shaman sat down at a distance from the rest of the group, worried that his mere presence would make the others feel uncomfortable. As he sat on a large stone, he tried to commune with the elder spirits, trying to get an answer as to the real point of the demonstration. They, however, remained stubbornly quiet. Darius sighed to himself and shook his head. Why would they do an act like that and then just act like it never happened? Unless they had ulterior...darker, motives.

Rayne sat in front of her tent, she was more or less spacing out after a long fight. It always was quite tiring. And Beau was assisting her, she could only imagine how much more tiring this all had to be for the others. She'd been well trained but she was still rather young. Though, she could hardly say she was the youngest here now. Cade, 16. Karik... even younger. It was strange for her having two allies that were the same ages as some of her sisters. Cade was the same age as Rikken, the second oldest right underneath Rayne, though much different in temperament from her. Cade was... hmmm, Rayne couldn't really put a finger on it. She had a fiery temper it seemed. Like she hated the whole world around her. But, with how she reacted to the insult towards whoever sewing that was earlier... it was clear the girl could care about some people. Rikken in contrast was quiet, meek. She was afraid of everything. But... especially needles. Not the best thing to be frightened of when you're from a family of tailors. She'd probably have to take Rayne's place as the heir. She hated thinking about that. Leaving her sister with the responsibility she was supposed to be upholding. But... perhaps it would help her come out of her shell a bit more, maybe gain some confidence. Was it a bad thing to hope for? After all... the only reason this could happen is Rayne herself did something selfish.

Karik was the same age as her 4th oldest sister, Susan. She couldn't imagine her having to fight like this. This... it jsut wasn't the place for ones their age. They shouldn't have to be worrying about life and death. They were still children. Even Cade still was but Rayne felt there was a lot less she could say on the matter since as she wasn't much older. Not only that but she had been around that age when she first signed on. So, she didn't really have the room.

While pondering things, she couldn't help but see Darius sitting rather far away from the others. She couldn't help but wonder why. The man always seemed quiet. As far as her experience went, but she never remembered him being this distant before. It seemed... out of place. Strange. She wasn't sure what had brought it on, or if this was just who he was. She couldn't help but feel like he was lonely over there. She couldn't really tell why she did... maybe solely because she'd feel lonely like that. Beau snorted from behind the tree, he was more or less minding his own business. Though, it reminded Rayne at least if there was no people around she'd never be alone. She always had that unruly horse.~

But, it made her feel all the more for Darius. He shouldn't be alone like that. So, she got up. She marched on over and sat down without a second thought on the rock he was sitting on. She sat, humming some strange tune to herself, rather than really saying anything. She figured her presence was enough. She thought it best Darius siad the first words if he'd speak at all. She made the first move, now to let him go at his own pace, the one he found suited to him. She was fine if not a word was said. She only wanted him to not be lonely.

Darius was lost in his own thoughts when he heard something unexpected: a tune. He was snapped out of his thoughts and he took to look around himself and noticed that Rayne had sat down next to him. He was a bit confused: Why would anyone willingly come next to him after what happened yesterday with the bandit? He did not complain about the company, not at all, but the thought lingered in his mind.

"Oh, um...Rayne, right? Sorry I didn't notice you immediately. Um...is there anything you need?" The shaman stammered out.

"Nothing in particular. You just looked lonely over here all by yourself." she said folding her hands together. She just gave the man a smile before going back to her humming her tune. It had,a strange rhythm too it. It was quick and upbeat however, having a cheery optimism to it that was undeniable. It was her favourite song. Maybe it would cheer Darius up. It was rather optimistic of her, she had no idea why he was sitting out here all alone.

Emilee.png

Emilee spends the night helping where she can in setting up camp. After all is done, she tends to herself brushing her hair and using strange smelling waxes on her skin and then washing them off. Happy with the results, she sits down against a tree and sighing heavily. Her body ached from all the running around; and the hit she took. Battles hurt! Still, she always the burning aches of a long day somewhat relieving. She looked up into the stars and hummed softly, and then broke into full on song singing hymns about the Goddess and heroes. She only sang the happy ones, the type you would hear at weddings. They were the only ones worth remembering in detail after all.

"Yeah...after what happened today, after seeing the looks on everyone's faces, I thought no one would want to be anywhere near me. Not after what happened to that bandit...I appreciate the company, I admit. Even though I don't feel like I deserve it..." Darius spoke out during a pause in Rayne's tune. He felt a little relieved that there was someone willing to talk to him.

Rayne looked puzzled for a moment. What happened to the bandit? Though she knew it'd probably not changed her mind to do this had she known. So she decided it didn't matter. "No one deserves to be alone. I don't know what you're referring to, but it'd not change my mind even if I did. I can imagine, it was something rather trying if you're afraid of what the others are thinking, if you're afraid they won't accept you. However, you're here with us for a reason. Even if I don't know a lot about you, I know you're a good person. You wouldn't be here if you weren't. We're with the Royal Guards after all. One has to be of some base character to pursue such a thing even if their reasons are selfish."

She had to believe... as her own motives were selfish enough. But she didn't think that made her a awful person. She didn't think it did for anyone else. "You being here tells me more about you than whatever you did earlier. The fact you're still here, says just as much if not more. I don't think you're a bad person Darius. And even if you were, some people are only awful... because they are alone. So, no one deserves that." Rayne put her head on his shoulder, as she continued to hum the tune she was before. She carried it well even still despite her new position. She looked rather small, and innocent next the the practitioner of dark magic.

Belros had spent his time keeping look out for the camp under his own initiative. They were recently attacked by bandits so the area wasn't exactly the safest. He kept within the tree tops giving him a good vantage point of the area. When from up top he noticed Emilee sitting underneath a nearby tree humming and then bursting into song.  "Huh, she's not a half bad singer." He didn't want to interrupt her though he still wanted to listen, so he sneakily leap from tree to tree which he was far too familiar with.

Well, at least he thought he was because when he tried to make his leap to another tree the branch underneath him broke and he fell flat on his face with a loud thud noise as bark and leafs came down with him as he lands within view of Emilee. Now he's done it. What will she think of him now? He just lays there not moving an inch, maybe if he was lucky she didn't notice him and he could just run out of this situation. But things are never that easy.
