  1. Two other mons I think should be highlighted are Mareep and Klink. Mareep is the GOAT--er, sheep. With Discharge, Power Gem, and Thunder Punch, it smashes through Shelly's gym, rain or shine. Moreover, it continues to be useful throughout the game, even up to the Agate Circus arc where many of these mons fall off. Klink isn't a Mon I see many picking up, and I don't blame them; it's tough to find with a low encounter rate in an off-the-road area. However, it's incredibly strong if caught just after Julia. It tanks straight through Florina's and Corey's aces, and does well enough in Shelly's if pre-evolved. However, it's real strength is on a factory field, or a short-circuit field if you can change it (which it can do as well). Gear Grind becomes a 200 bp move with perfect accuracy, Automize (and later Gear Grind) have greatly boosted effects, and it generally becomes a bulky offensive monster in those scenarios. It's biggest weakness is a general lack of coverage; it kinda learns Gear Grind and that's it.
  2. Reading back through derogatoryTrainer's nuzlocke of rejuv, it's amazing how much the environmental art and writing has improved compared to my own run now.

OMG yeah I'm doing the same too LOL

It's also interesting to see a different player's perspective.  Like I loved Rejuvenation's story, but I'm finding it entertaining with his negative remarks, despite me not seeing eye-to-eye with him on everything.

  3. You know what? I think this guy can go the distance. Unless Kiki or Pulse Muk has something to 2ko swalot (or OHKO after a boost) he'll probably manage just fine.
  4. Man y'all keep talking about things in Rejuv I have no idea about (Bladestar in particular) and it really makes me wish I didn't have midterms. Good news is in a week I'll be done with midterms, so I can come back and play this Rejuv more! Talk to y'all more then!

      Good luck on your Midterms.

The actual pain this causes is real.

  6. First off, this may sound a little juvenile but I love how several Pokemon are moved up in availability compared to Reborn (Rockruff, Misdreavus, Volbeat, Carbink). It's so nice to get such a wildly different variety of mons to play with, and punching thrash to just tear holes in a team is really fun! Secondly, but more importantly, the story is so amazing! Every character practically pops off the screen with how expressive they are. I love how Marianette is the least normal child in the region, how Narcissa gets set up as mean but is actually just One Whole Mom, how Keta looks at his life and actually tries to set things right, and how gloriously, vibrantly fucked up and vile the Xen Executives, at least those I've seen, are.
  7. Oh, nice, Infernape is a starter I'd like to try on my next run. Now, you're still in the very earliest stages of the game, so the most important thing I'd say is to just be willing to change your team on the fly. As you progress, the gym leaders will more and more often require dedicated teams or one-time team members in order to get through, so just collect as many Pokemon as you can, just in case. The one big change I would suggest is maybe putting Canary in a box for a while. You have another flying type, and Noibat's stats are pretty lackluster until it evolves at level 48. One Pokemon I'd recommend you pick up is Espurr. If you go back to peridot ward, just south of Julia's gym there's a guy who wants some money. Give him money enough times, and he'll give you access to the house behind him. If you're lucky, this will have Espurr, possibly the strongest non-starter non-egg Pokemon you can get at this stage of the game. If you're not, you can find it in the wild after beating the next gym leader. Espurr learns some strong offensive moves, psychic and otherwise, as well as some great support moves, like Fake Out and Light Screen. The powerful psychic moves will be really strong in the next gym, Fake Out enables a strong strategy in the gym after that, and even after Meowstic falls off offensively, the support moves can continue to pull their weight for several gyms to come.
  8. Beat Narcissa! and she gave me Shadow Ball!!!

Thanks Jan for your Incredible generosity, I'll make good use of this!!!

Is it wrong that I full-heartedly expected her drifblim to trip you up from the get-go? Unburden is a bit tricky to work around that early in the game, after all. In any case, congratz on waking Goldenleaf up from its vicious fever dream!

Wait, if Shadow Ball is given out here, then what's in... 🤔

    2. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

No, not at all! IMO that's the strongest lead yet! Although I'm not sure if it has Unburden or Flare Boost. I...actually made a thread asking for suggestions on what to do, before beating her before it could get any replies. Turns out the trick is weakening Drifblim by soft-resetting until it misses hypnosis, then making it whiff hypnosis against my flasher Prankster Volbeat with accuracy/field drops, then lucking into it continuing to fail to sleep me until it died to its own burn.......

After that, Blessed Mimikyu was a terror, but the rest of her mons were much more manageable. I sacrificed swampert (rare candy trick) to Mimi in order to have my Lycanroc come in and sweep two more mons with Thrash, after which I the field got reset by Rotom and I got really lucky because I got several Ominous Wind procs on Xatu, so it swept Rotom and Dusclops while heavily damaging Chandelure, after which Lycanroc was able to easily finish it off.

Now to reap the sweet, sweet rewards......I really appreciate the free Nasty Plot on that Misdreavus, and SBall really opens up a new world of coverage. I'm not sure exactly what I'll use it on, but I may give up Medicham for the time being, and sub Xatu out for Gothitelle. The Bird's gotta fall off sometime, right?

Also sidenote but I think main games are forever ruined for me. Geara whipped out friggin' Giratina in a double battle and I just kinda powered through it. I still can't believe that's a thing that happened.

      "then what's in......."

      >_>

"Also sidenote but I think main games are forever ruined for me."

      Yeah, Rejuvenation does that.

  9. What did y'all do turn 1 versus Narcissa? I'm just sitting here soft-resetting until the Drifblim that outspeeds my 252 speed lycanroc misses with it's 90 accuracy hypnosis. I can't change the field against it, because Narc will just change it right back on the same turn, since my strat was to use Prankster Volbeat to set it. I can't kill it with Xatu because it eats two Ominous Winds (even if I get the boost) and KOs back. What am I supposed to do? I don't want to be here soft-resetting for a 10% all day. Also, is there a single Chesto Berry in this entire game? If there was ever a time for one, that time is now. Edit: There is not one Chesto Berry on this entire island. Jesus Christ. Edit2: I won!!! I got off a rockslide, then went into Muk, who went into Volbeat, who flashed, making Drif whiff hypnosis where it had used SS before, and from there I was able to stall it out with flash accuracy drops until the burn damage killed it. After that it didn't get any easier (Blessed Play Rough Mimikyu is a Nightmare!) but with a lot of luck (3 ominous wind procs on Xatu, Chandelure cleanly KOing Volbeat with Flame Burst so it never used spectral scream) I was able to get through. That was a real nailbiter!
  10. Narcissa is!!! So nice!!!!! I was so taken aback! She even gave us food! Also WOW I didn't expect to be able to fight and beat Gira-O on my first try. It's my favorite legendary, so I'm definitely happy. Next up is Narcissa's actual battle, which I'm super pumped for. I can't wait to take on her team of ghosts.

    1. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

Yeah, Narcissa is pretty nice.  It was a pleasant surprise.  I recently have been reading "The Terribly-Titled Nuzlocke of Pokemon Rejuvenation" and the entire Goldenleaf Arc was pretty fucking awful back before they changed things in (I believe) V9.  Glad I started playing V10.

Is Giratina supposed to be hard to battle?  From how far I am, every time I've faced Geara's Giratina, it hasn't been that much of a problem.

  11. Beat Marianette. GOD I love this game's story. Also, this fight was Shuppet's Finest Hour. Little guy set the Haunted Field, then came back time and time again as I swapped around to stall for burn damage on Bewear. He even Priority OHKO'd Girafarig! Xatu served as a very strong cleaner, as well, and all of this wouldn't be possible without Vivillion's paralysis and Light Screen, and Duskanroc's normal resistance+OHKO-ing Chatot. My heart is POUNDING.

actually (i've got the manual open in front of me), it's only special dark moves that are reduced in the holy field, so knock off, crunch, etc. should be fine. But don't get me wrong, I am over the moon for that sweet, sweet aromatherapy utility. status is so annoying, especially from these ghosts, so being able to shrug it off is great! Also I don't know if anything carries hypnosis, but having something really tanky to switch into the hypnotist is gr8 too.

I'm probably still gonna try and rely on punching through with my other mons first. It's just nice to have that big ol' toxic blob to fall back on. Having knock off from Hariyama and Muk should really help in that regard, getting rid of items while taking only minor damage in return thanks to max HP investment. Plus, it has Poison Touch, so it should be able to really chunk down any of the bulkier ghosts, e.g. Cofagrigus, Dusclops etc.

    3. Autumn Zephyr

      Autumn Zephyr

Huh, guess I was a bit mistaken there. I don't exactly have that much experience with trying to use Dark Types in the Holy Field, admittedly, since Revenant!Keta was another Mono-Fighting boss before V10, Snuggles destroyed everything in sight, I didn't have a Dark on my original Reborn team, and Mono-Psychic has a far more reliable interaction with the Field Effect to bother. Guess I'll have to keep that detail in mind for later, huh?

I probably should've double-checked the Field Effect Manual anyway- I already have it open, so I don't even have that excuse! 🤣

    4. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

@doombotmecha Can you link me this manual you speak of?

Edit: Nvm you meant Field Effect Manual.  I thought you meant Gym Leader Manual for some reason.  For some reason I can't delete this comment.

  12. @J-Dawg The thing is, I actually had a relatively easy time going through reborn chapter 2 the first time. Let's go boss by boss: I forget the rest of my team, but I know I had Quilladin, Pansear, and Trubbish. --Pulse Tangrowth is intimidating, but it's 1v6 and Acid Spray really cute Tangrowth down to size. -Fern's old team was all grass types, and with Servine instead of Dartrix only his Roselia was really tough. --Florina is fairly simple with this team, since Toxic Spikes really hurts Cradily, and Quilladin's Pin Missile is boosted by the field. Only her Toxic Heal Breloom was really a problem, but I solved that eventually. Finally, note that these are all single battles, with less of a potential for ohkos, and therefore more usefulness for healing items. Now, let's look at Rejuvenation chapter 2, which I'm counting as from the one title card to the next, aka Jenkel's pulse musharna to true Keta. --PULSE Musharna: Pulse, double battle, and Pulse Musharna isn't weak to dark moves. In addition, psychics on psychic terrain is rough, ngl. --Nim: No warning double battle on a field you've never seen before, oh and also Rockslide hax. Reborn doesn't have Sol/Lun with Rockslide until chapter 4, after Corey, and even then you get to see the field in action first. Also Espurr is incredibly painful at this point in the game (for comparison, Espurr practically by itself is a midboss in the slums that can really hammer teams lacking a dark type), and I have persistent awful luck surrounding Hypnosis, making Inkay much harder than it had to be. In addition, the field negates psy's most common weakness, and further boosts Espurr's incredibly strong psybeam. --Zetta II: this fight was why I made my first help post. Venam's A-Grimer was so bulky that Zetta seemed to consistently focus down my Pokemon, his gloom ate toxic spikes, his (field-boosted) ancient Power minior was threatening to ascend to godhood each turn it was out..... it's one hell of a fight. Also, my Marshtomp (the only Mon tanky enough to not get otk'd by anything other than gloom) hit the cap this fight, so I was reluctant to use it afterwards. -DR Galvantula: this fight was like Shelly on drugs. Constant debuffs, constant spread moves, and the Dr galv has a different typing and one of the strongest offensive abilities in the game. Venam had to finish that for me. -Keta I: the cause of this thread. I honestly believe that the first team I took into that fight could have aced Florina, and that's even with two Pokemon weak to grass. I was expecting a difficult single battle, not a double battle where I lost a Pokemon every turn! Once again, having my bulkiest Mon outsped and OHKO'd on its first turn by an original move I wasn't warned about Did Not Help. However, with y'all's help, I was able to beat the fight. Madelis: I had a good time. Sure S.Mewtwo exclusively targeted my team each turn, and Keta had to finish the fight, but at least Hyper Mode put M2 on a clock. There's nothing that compares to it in Reborn c2, but hey, it's not so bad. -DR Volcanion: this thing is kind of a joke. Dusk Lycanroc 2kos it with Rock Tomb, and it's not even a close 2ko either. Thank God. Sidenote that even now, Meteor has yet to bring out legendary Pokemon against us. --True Keta: i actually found this kind of easy. It was a straightforward single battle, and I had coverage for all his types. Having two flyers in Vivillion and Xatu really helped. Gallade just gets 2ko'd by Air slash. That's 8 boss fights to 3, not counting help requests (many of which are just as tough, if not more so). Needless to say, I ground my team to 28-30 before even leaving Sheridan.
  13. The movelists for the Virtual Badge mons are out of date. Quilfish in particular no longer has minimize, and Eevee cannot put things to sleep.
  14. Seeing him leave to heal with a partner made me so angry. Like, are we SURE this guy has played a Pokemon game before???
  15. Favorite: Factory Field. Boosts steel and electric type moves (my first and third favorite types), also especially boosts moves and abilities from a few pokemon I really like (Klinklang's Gear moves and Porygon's Download), and it reversibly (hi there field control shenanigans) swaps over to a field that still boosts those things while amplifying ghost type moves (my second favorite type). I also really like that it boosts strengths without nullifying weaknesses. Also, while it's not a reborn thing, I love the Haunted/Blessed duality in Rejuvenation. You could have a whole fight just swapping back and forth between ruining normal or ghost types each turn with just Curse! Flash! Ominous Wind! Flash! Least Favorite: Close between Mirror and Glitch. Both are incredibly disruptive while having clearly exploitable elements. Mirror is more rng-reliant, but I feel I contractually have to rate Glitch worse than average because it negates my favorite type. Also Dragon's Den isn't out yet but I already dislike it because 90% of its text is just "dragons don't have weaknesses". Like, there's barely anything to exploit! I feel like I've just gotta use Sub-Zero Slammer or somehow set up with a physical dragon. Oh, and while I'm at it, Water Surface makes pokedex filling a NIGHTMARE. My level 70 Ampharos gets outsped and 2KO'd by a level 50 wild wailmer with dive. how am I supposed to catch it????
  16. For a move with 60 accuracy, Hypnosis sure likes to hit me every time it's used

    1. Alazir

      Alazir

It's the signature move if RNGesus

  17. Oh same. I don't know if he'll do the orphanage raid and Shade in the same episode, but I can't imagine him getting through Shade unscathed. That whole fight is chock full of really dangerous, fully evolved offensive Pokemon. Like, Kiki could get OHKO'd by Gengar, and then he's stuck trying to get Belly to carry him again, which won't really work, I think, due to the offensive boosts, and Mimikyu getting to boost up as well.
  18. I'm currently using one with Thick Fat for the extra resists and utility, but I think I'll at least EV train a Sheer Force one in case I need it. Plus, I've got a whole bunch of Pokemon that need HP EVs rn, and with the exp all I can train them all at once!
  19. Me, listening to the music as Madelis monologues in Carotos mountain: NECROZMA?!?

    1. Autumn Zephyr

      Autumn Zephyr

Well, GlitchXCity's Ultra Necrozma remix has been the game's Legendary Pokemon Theme from the moment it was released on YouTube, and there is a Legendary involved with the scene. Seems like a fairly reasonable time to use it to me. 🤷‍♀️

    2. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

Oh, funky. I mean, it's absolutely appropriate. Giving the biggest "OH SHIT" theme GlitchxCity had to offer for a battle against Shadow Freakin' Mewtwo is simply right and just. It's just that the music in this game never fails to make me really emotional lol

    3. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

Oh yes indeed.  The music in this game. *closes eyes and goes "mmmmmmm" like I'm eating the best food ever* It helps that I've never played any Pokemon game after gen 5.

For example, one of my first favorites was the gym theme.  I didn't know it was the Elite Four theme.  It sounded completely new to me.  I was like "WTF why is the gym theme so intense" as I proceeded to get wiped by Venam multiple times because of my inexperienced ass.

Then in Smash Ultimate I heard the new remix of the theme...I personally don't like it as much.

  20. Oh, thanks! I managed to beat the fight by subbing Marshtomp and Charjabug for Xatu and Hariyama. Hari's bulkier than anything else, so Lucario targets it's partner and then dies to Vital Throw. At the end it was just Hariyama vs. Machoke, who whiffed a Gale Strike, allowing me to take the fight. Shuppet was invaluable, though, just for Knock Off support that couldn't get hit with fake out. I did pick up Lunatone, though, and I'm definitely gonna try and use it in the upcoming normal gym. For now, it's almost time to face off against Madelis!
  21. Thank you all for your time. I hear y'all on Xatu and Chimecho, and I'm definitely going to train up a Xatu. My last attempt before using that ICTM (inter-continental totembird missile) is going to be using a Hariyama in place of marshtomp. I got lucky on Duskanroc's Thrash targeting and got down to just lucario, so I think with extra priority and fighting STAB I could do it. The most heartbreaking part of this fight, when I was just starting my attempts, was Marshtomp getting outsped and OHKO'd. While Marshtomp is normally pretty tanky for level 25, it's clear that it's totally irrelevant for this fight. I think that if I can get down to Lucario with Charjabug/Hariyama, force palm should do the trick while Lucario targets down Charjabug with Rock Tomb. If I can't make that work consistently, I'll just sub in more evolved mons like Xatu and Fearow. I may also pick up Geodude, maybe now but maybe in my next run. If the story in this game were any worse, I'd put it down and never pick it up again. But, as it happens, the story is to die for, so I'll keep trying for as long as it takes. Thanks again to all of you. P.S. This is a very minor nitpick but the guide has incorrect leads for Keta. It lists Combusken and Mienfoo as his first two, when it's actually Mienfoo and Pignite. P.P.S. @fellowry THROH?!?! jesus christ. At least I'd know what to do about Breloom after florina, but god that throh must be a TANK.
  22. Keta's Fake Out fight is kicking my ass.

How can his actual battle be any worse than this? He already 1 or 2 shots my team

    1. Gentleman Jaggi

      Gentleman Jaggi

His second fight has some annoyingly tanky Pokémon for that early in the game.

    2. fellowry

      fellowry

Tbh Lycanroc kills half of keta second fight mon, only need to deal with donphan and gallade which need a tankier mon to deal with

  23. If there's a better place for this then PLEASE tell me. My team: Marshtomp 25 -Rock Smash -Water Gun -Mud Bomb -Mud Slap Dusk-Lycanroc 25 -Thrash -Howl -Rock Throw -Rock Tomb (note: this is the rockruff from the trade, so it's moves are kinda bad) Vivillion 25@TwistedSpoon -Psybeam -Gust -Stun Spore -Light Screen Charjabug 25 -Acrobatics -Crunch -Spark -Bug Bite Meditite 24 -Force Palm -Detect -Poison Sweep -Hidden Power Ghost I have NOTHING to tank with. I feel like I need full atk/spatk EV training for the secon---no, wait, not even the second gym!!! I'm just past Samson in reborn, but here I am wondering if I'm just not cut out for rejuv. The fake out from mienfoo on match start+pignite's terrifying offensive presence are the first big hurdle, but I've been starting Shuppet/Meditite and using Detect turn one to eat the fake out without taking damage, while using Knock off to soften up pignite for Vivillion later. I can get Keta down to just Lucario, but I have nothing left to handle it. Maybe I need a fire-type....but I have no idea what kind of fire could survive more than one hit from that monster. I think maybe if I try paralyzing Scraggy+ignoring it that I can make things easier for a while, but it's not like it isn't a threat, and that still leaves me 2v2 for the first few turns. I just don't know what to do. Florina was easier. This is a nightmare.
  24. Ok, so, for both of the big partner fights of act 2, I went with Venam, for the first fight because why not, and the second because I was about to face a bunch of electric bugs and I didn't think that Mr. Dark Types was going to cut it. I beat each fight hanging on by a thread! My mons were all super squishy barring Marshtomp, so it's not surprising that the ai double-targeted me, but it's chapter 2. If I'm struggling this early, there's probably just something I'm missing. My team for those fights was as follows: Marshtomp Vivillion Rockruff Pichu Shuppet Trubbish With Marshtomp hitting cap over the course of the Zetta fight and everyone else around level 21-22. So, what tips would y'all give for my next run through here? So far all I can think of is that Geodude+healing items probably tanks through most of Galvantula. Not sure how it would do against most of Zetta's team though.
  25. I'm almost certain he got a pidove from the slums. He definitely got a pidove from the slums.
