  1. Reading back through derogatoryTrainer's nuzlocke of rejuv, it's amazing how much the environmental art and writing has improved compared to my own run now.

      J-Dawg

OMG yeah I'm doing the same too LOL

It's also interesting to see a different player's perspective.  Like I loved Rejuvenation's story, but I'm finding it entertaining with his negative remarks, despite me not seeing eye-to-eye with him on everything.

  2. You know what? I think this guy can go the distance. Unless Kiki or Pulse Muk has something to 2ko swalot (or OHKO after a boost) he'll probably manage just fine.
  3. Man y'all keep talking about things in Rejuv I have no idea about (Bladestar in particular) and it really makes me wish I didn't have midterms. Good news is in a week I'll be done with midterms, so I can come back and play this Rejuv more! Talk to y'all more then!

      Good luck on your Midterms.

  4. current status: killing off hordes of Kricketune because I can't afford the attack EV room yet

The actual pain this causes is real.

  5. Beat Narcissa! and she gave me Shadow Ball!!!

Thanks Jan for your Incredible generosity, I'll make good use of this!!!

Is it wrong that I full-heartedly expected her drifblim to trip you up from the get-go? Unburden is a bit tricky to work around that early in the game, after all. In any case, congratz on waking Goldenleaf up from its vicious fever dream!

Wait, if Shadow Ball is given out here, then what's in... 🤔

    2. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

No, not at all! IMO that's the strongest lead yet! Although I'm not sure if it has Unburden or Flare Boost. I...actually made a thread asking for suggestions on what to do, before beating her before it could get any replies. Turns out the trick is weakening Drifblim by soft-resetting until it misses hypnosis, then making it whiff hypnosis against my flasher Prankster Volbeat with accuracy/field drops, then lucking into it continuing to fail to sleep me until it died to its own burn.......

After that, Blessed Mimikyu was a terror, but the rest of her mons were much more manageable. I sacrificed swampert (rare candy trick) to Mimi in order to have my Lycanroc come in and sweep two more mons with Thrash, after which I the field got reset by Rotom and I got really lucky because I got several Ominous Wind procs on Xatu, so it swept Rotom and Dusclops while heavily damaging Chandelure, after which Lycanroc was able to easily finish it off.

Now to reap the sweet, sweet rewards......I really appreciate the free Nasty Plot on that Misdreavus, and SBall really opens up a new world of coverage. I'm not sure exactly what I'll use it on, but I may give up Medicham for the time being, and sub Xatu out for Gothitelle. The Bird's gotta fall off sometime, right?

Also sidenote but I think main games are forever ruined for me. Geara whipped out friggin' Giratina in a double battle and I just kinda powered through it. I still can't believe that's a thing that happened.

      "then what's in......."

      >_>

    3. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

"Also sidenote but I think main games are forever ruined for me."

      Yeah, Rejuvenation does that.

  6. Narcissa is!!! So nice!!!!! I was so taken aback! She even gave us food! Also WOW I didn't expect to be able to fight and beat Gira-O on my first try. It's my favorite legendary, so I'm definitely happy. Next up is Narcissa's actual battle, which I'm super pumped for. I can't wait to take on her team of ghosts.

    1. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

Yeah, Narcissa is pretty nice.  It was a pleasant surprise.  I recently have been reading "The Terribly-Titled Nuzlocke of Pokemon Rejuvenation" and the entire Goldenleaf Arc was pretty fucking awful back before they changed things in (I believe) V9.  Glad I started playing V10.

Is Giratina supposed to be hard to battle?  From how far I am, every time I've faced Geara's Giratina, it hasn't been that much of a problem.

  7. Beat Marianette. GOD I love this game's story. Also, this fight was Shuppet's Finest Hour. Little guy set the Haunted Field, then came back time and time again as I swapped around to stall for burn damage on Bewear. He even Priority OHKO'd Girafarig! Xatu served as a very strong cleaner, as well, and all of this wouldn't be possible without Vivillion's paralysis and Light Screen, and Duskanroc's normal resistance+OHKO-ing Chatot. My heart is POUNDING.

    1. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

actually (i've got the manual open in front of me), it's only special dark moves that are reduced in the holy field, so knock off, crunch, etc. should be fine. But don't get me wrong, I am over the moon for that sweet, sweet aromatherapy utility. status is so annoying, especially from these ghosts, so being able to shrug it off is great! Also I don't know if anything carries hypnosis, but having something really tanky to switch into the hypnotist is gr8 too.

I'm probably still gonna try and rely on punching through with my other mons first. It's just nice to have that big ol' toxic blob to fall back on. Having knock off from Hariyama and Muk should really help in that regard, getting rid of items while taking only minor damage in return thanks to max HP investment. Plus, it has Poison Touch, so it should be able to really chunk down any of the bulkier ghosts, e.g. Cofagrigus, Dusclops etc.

    2. Autumn Zephyr

      Autumn Zephyr

Huh, guess I was a bit mistaken there. I don't exactly have that much experience with trying to use Dark Types in the Holy Field, admittedly, since Revenant!Keta was another Mono-Fighting boss before V10, Snuggles destroyed everything in sight, I didn't have a Dark on my original Reborn team, and Mono-Psychic has a far more reliable interaction with the Field Effect to bother. Guess I'll have to keep that detail in mind for later, huh?

I probably should've double-checked the Field Effect Manual anyway- I already have it open, so I don't even have that excuse! 🤣

    3. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

@doombotmecha Can you link me this manual you speak of?

Edit: Nvm you meant Field Effect Manual.  I thought you meant Gym Leader Manual for some reason.  For some reason I can't delete this comment.

  8. The movelists for the Virtual Badge mons are out of date. Quilfish in particular no longer has minimize, and Eevee cannot put things to sleep.
  9. Seeing him leave to heal with a partner made me so angry. Like, are we SURE this guy has played a Pokemon game before???
  10. For a move with 60 accuracy, Hypnosis sure likes to hit me every time it's used

    1. Alazir

      Alazir

It's the signature move if RNGesus

  11. Oh same. I don't know if he'll do the orphanage raid and Shade in the same episode, but I can't imagine him getting through Shade unscathed. That whole fight is chock full of really dangerous, fully evolved offensive Pokemon. Like, Kiki could get OHKO'd by Gengar, and then he's stuck trying to get Belly to carry him again, which won't really work, I think, due to the offensive boosts, and Mimikyu getting to boost up as well.
  12. Me, listening to the music as Madelis monologues in Carotos mountain: NECROZMA?!?

    1. Autumn Zephyr

      Autumn Zephyr

Well, GlitchXCity's Ultra Necrozma remix has been the game's Legendary Pokemon Theme from the moment it was released on YouTube, and there is a Legendary involved with the scene. Seems like a fairly reasonable time to use it to me. 🤷‍♀️

    2. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

Oh, funky. I mean, it's absolutely appropriate. Giving the biggest "OH SHIT" theme GlitchxCity had to offer for a battle against Shadow Freakin' Mewtwo is simply right and just. It's just that the music in this game never fails to make me really emotional lol

    3. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

Oh yes indeed.  The music in this game. *closes eyes and goes "mmmmmmm" like I'm eating the best food ever* It helps that I've never played any Pokemon game after gen 5.

For example, one of my first favorites was the gym theme.  I didn't know it was the Elite Four theme.  It sounded completely new to me.  I was like "WTF why is the gym theme so intense" as I proceeded to get wiped by Venam multiple times because of my inexperienced ass.

Then in Smash Ultimate I heard the new remix of the theme...I personally don't like it as much.

  13. Keta's Fake Out fight is kicking my ass.

How can his actual battle be any worse than this? He already 1 or 2 shots my team

    1. Gentleman Jaggi

      Gentleman Jaggi

His second fight has some annoyingly tanky Pokémon for that early in the game.

    2. fellowry

      fellowry

Tbh Lycanroc kills half of keta second fight mon, only need to deal with donphan and gallade which need a tankier mon to deal with

  14. I'm almost certain he got a pidove from the slums. He definitely got a pidove from the slums.
  15. I am legitimately fed up with Rejuv chapter 2's cavalcade of incredibly hard multi battles. What am I supposed to do? Grind to cap before doing any story content????

Every time, without fail, if I send out a mon other than Marshtomp I lose it that turn.

Like I get that this is supposed to be Reborn difficulty, and this is a lot like Zel/Taka difficulty, but! that was one fight! Not Three! I just want to get exp on my team, dammit!!!

Edit: on reflection, I probably should have just come back after the gym. The stolen cargo fight featured mons up to level 28.

    1. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

I'm guessing you might've already figured it out, but in case you haven't...

I'll let you know that this game is designed for you to have a full team of battle-ready pokemon pretty much at all times, at least for when you're progressing in any way where pokemon battles can happen.  The fact that HMs can be forgotten for other moves without needing a move deleter means that having a Bibarel is amazing as Bibarel can learn any and all HMs except Fly, which is okay because the game gives you multiple ways to get around without needing Fly. (You probably only have access to the guy with the truck/car right now though.) So if you need HMs for progression then Bibarel allows you to maintain good movesets for the rest of your pokemon.  Bibarel also learns headbutt so it can do that to trees and such though I haven't found a notable use that I can remember at the moment.

The Exp. All should be your top priority item to get from redeeming Achievement Points, at least in my opinion.  Naturally, it allows you to EXP train/grind multiple pokemon at once, but it also lets you EV train/grind multiple pokemon at once.  Speaking of EXP, once you get access to the first Audino trainer/breeder, you'll find level grinding to be much easier, especially with the Exp. All and a reliable way to 1-hit KO those Audinos. (I used a Sawk.) I believe that the first Audino trainer/breeder is in Goldenleaf Town.

I personally got the EV Room Cards next, because to hell with it if it's possible to get them later in the game once you have multiple HMs and access to the areas where they are.  I'd like to have the pokemon I plan on using to have their EVs done and ready to go, so that down the line, when average levels are in the 40s and up, I don't have to go and catch replacements, because the pokemon I were using needed EVs from rooms I didn't have access to at the time, so they ended up with random ass EV spreads that will hamper their endgame potential. it just made sense to get access to the rooms ASAP so I could really start banging out the EV spreads I wanted and not have to keep so many potentially useful Pokemon in the PC.  So I'd say go EV Room Cards next after the Exp. All, but you're free to do as you please.

    2. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

I actually did get the exp all in order to grind to 25 for Keta I. I skipped the audino in favor of the fletchinder and Kricketune in Sheridan Arena, so I could get more attack and speed EVs.

I may get the special stat EV card next, but I'm also thinking about saving up for the Golden Axe. Nothing on my team rn learns cut, so I've been lugging around this Dugtrio through most of chapter 3. I should definitely EV train it, but rn Marshtomp is kinda all the ground I need. I had been excited to add Zangoose to my team, but it doesn't learn cut for some ungodly reason. I might actually pick up a bibarel for this game. I guess Reborn is just really light on hm use compared to rejuv; now that I think about it, most of reborn city only uses hms for bonus areas, like the rock Smash bits under the grand staircase.

To answer your earlier point, I think "battle ready" means something different in c2 rejuv than c2 reborn. As I said in my other post, I would have been pretty comfortable taking my initial Keta I team right into Florina. I think another part of it is that the game takes into account that you may just buy the exp all right as c2 starts, meaning all the double battles are made with Max level mons in mind.

    3. J-Dawg

      J-Dawg

You should be able to get a Bidoof from Gearen City and evolve it into Bibarel for HMs. (Really like did you not come across one?  I came across like 50.)

Personally I don't think the Golden items are that useful as early in the game as you are.  The story does sometimes require you to have an HMs handy for progression, but from what I recall, the game allows you to have 6 good mons for most tough fights, and the ones where I needed an HM to get to the fight they weren't hard enough that I suffered too much for it.

  16. oh man, I'm playing Rejuvenation rn and there are SO MANY pokemon I'd like to use. It's so hard to pick just 6!

I mean, I've got Vikavolt, a female combee I could train, a Vivillion that I'll have to let go of soon, a prankster volbeat......and that's just the bug types!

    1. Autumn Zephyr

      Autumn Zephyr

I mean, limiting oneself to just 6 is an uncommon thing to do around these parts in the first place, so... 😅

    2. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

Well, yes, but it's *the second gym* lmao. I've mostly whittled it down, though.

-Marshtomp, the starter, the tank, literally hit the cap before DR Galvantula

-Dusk-Lycanroc, who from what I gather is kinda typical but I'm still excited to use it. Might get swapped out for the fight, depending on whether Tough Claws+Thrash OHKOs anybody

-Shuppet, fighting immunity, will-o-wisp, may see use against the meditite/Cham that I'm guessing Keta has. Episode one knock off was really fun, I loved getting Shuppet this early. He's getting dumped for misdreavus.

      -Meditite, Pure Power, anti-fighting fight-type.

-Vivillion, the absolute hero and last mon standing against Nim. Will get rotated someday, but today is not that day.

      -Charjabug, resists fighting, knows acrobatics.

On the bench is Pikachu (For A-Raichu for water fields) and Swablu (as a replacement flying-type/status spreader that's eating all my heart scales -_-)

    3. seki108

      seki108

If you choose to get the EXP-all eventually, just six mons will definitely be at the level cap again in a few battles.  You definitely aren't too spoiled for choice after the first gym, even knowing better mons are on the horizon.

I used Medicham and Vivillion until the end of Ep 10's story (in my first save which stopped in Ep10) with Medicham being the main MVP of that file, and D-Lycanroc is one of my most consistently performing Pokemon in my Ep 11/12 save,    so it's perfectly possible to be keeping them for quite a while.

  17. rejuvenation chapter 2....is a lot. I've learned something, though: my team is really not cut out for double battles lmao.

Anyway I'll get back to Reborn in a minute

  18. I BEAT NIM!!!!!!

ok maybe it was just her first fight but when I first got here I couldn't even get out her last pokemon. The friendship hit on pichu is super annoying, though. out of all of my mons, only my vivillion was left standing. His light screen saved the day against lunatone and espurr. I think Inkay hit every hypnosis it used over like 6 tries........

  19. >Geared On that subject, Klang would be another great pickup for his team, if he uses it correctly. Gear Grind is good on the short circuit field, but *amazing* on the factory field.
  20. jfc I encountered a Delibird in Ametrine Mt. and hit it with Bug Buzz from Volcorona, and despite being a NVE attack it instantly killed delibird from full. Not A Tough Bird lmao

  21. She's definitely super difficult without proper team setup. However, with the right team, in the fight itself everything just falls into place from there. Re: shade, I really don't know. Like in my own fights against him, I was either underleveled with a bad team or on level with a great one, so I don't think I have a good idea of his difficulty. He's definitely got one of the strongest leads in the game, though.
  22. Man, I just got to Terra's introduction and oh boy, is she ever Terra. There's so much terra here I'm not sure if anyone knows what to do with it. It's like the darn donphans clogging up the place.

Oh and that gender debug npc was just in the absolute most comedically appropriate place hahahaha

    1. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

I heeded your warning, and I ground until I could fight Luna with 64/65 pokemon. Now I'm at almost all level 65 with Scrafty at 66 thanks to exp from the gym battle and the final Aqua Gang match. RIP to you but I'm different 😛

    2. Autumn Zephyr

      Autumn Zephyr

See, this is why warnings are important! 'Tis always nice to save folks some hassle, eh? Though I am a bit peeved that I apparently didn't grind enough leading up to Luna... 😓

    3. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

To be fair, I only ground up my main team. I'm still going to have to grind Kabutops & Scolipede for my Charlotte and Terra strats. Honestly, thanks, though. Awkward level curves and exp woes are my pet peeves in Pokemon fangames and RPGs in general, so advice that helps me (mostly) dodge those is always welcome.

  23. stop: point of no return time.

Luna is fairly simple, maybe I should not have grinded but I didn't want to be unprepared. Oh well, maybe one more sidequest and then it's time to go to the circus!

  24. oof, I see what folks were saying about Luna's exp curve woes. I got like three non-grinding level ups between Radomus and Luna. I'm going to grind a bit more so I'm not as far behind for samson.
