Pokemon Reborn Hardcore [Mod][Discontinued]
Commander replied to Commander's topic in The Mod Market
I say as long as you submit it before January 7th you're fine (this contest has a very, very long deadline mostly because I'm in no rush for it). So yes, yes it is. *Glares* Yeah...I'm either guessing that this was a community error or some script I messed up when tinkering around. I'll look into it in E16 since that is hopefully around the corner sooner or later, but what happens is that the AI wants to switch out but the script was written wrong causing a crash. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So first off there is a glitch with 1.51 called commander is an idiot and forgot to change the CoM champ fight back to what it is supposed to be. Pretty much the equivalence of Solaris having a Igglybuff situation, but it is correct in 1.5. If it becomes a major issue I might make either a reupload of patch but it's a little tricky since my hard drive crash so...please be patient for any errors as I can't really start fixing them until E16's community release and/or official one. Now for other news: Gen VII. Ho boy Gen VII is a little bit...tricky and I'm not sure what Ame is going to do about a certain character losing a huge gimmick he used for the league. I considered putting it in earlier than Reborn once sprites and/or scripts were done, but I'm hesitating a bit. The older Pokemon stat buffs I'm perfectly okay with and might do them for Episode 17. A lot of the nerfs cripple leaders and bosses pretty badly so things would need to be redesigned. -
Would you be wed to a Yandere Toaster for Twelve Dollars?

If ye shall burnest the bread of thy most sinful enemies without tampering with my holy loaves, then I hereby announce Dypatome and uhh...Toasty husband and wife. My fee is 12 dollars. -
*ahem* GamersTree, Nickaboo92, and Sacred all come to mind though I think Dobby did an LP but I don't think it's current. The team showcase has quite a number of written logged runs with some having youtubed the gym leader battles if you don't mind doing a bit of reading. There aren't really that many youtube playthroughs (and zero completed Hardcore ones) so Team Showcase is a good spot for more reborn.

I suppose the best way to put it is that not all Pokemon are supposed to be good or even "viable". Due to that, people can cripple or buff their teams based around how to use such a mon. Game designing for these mons is something reflected upon that. There are tiers for that very reason competitively. This actually works out very, very well for the player side giving so many options on what to do, which not all games have such a luxury. Though on the opponent side, it's a little bit different as a crippling weakness is very crippling for them which is why in Hardcore I'm probably going to give a couple of the leader Aces stat buffs (because Volbeat and a couple others need it badly). It's moreso for a difficulty perspective over true to the original game. I get what you're saying and doing, but how much a Pokemon is used isn't just based on how good or useful it is, but WHEN it can be obtained. Reborn, sorry to be blunt, punishes people who try to swap out their team due to the limited experience to the point anything post Aya is...really not worth using unless it is really, really good. So if you want to make mon's better in Reborn, make them available earlier in the game, not give them small buffs. I just glanced through the list and while there was a lot of thought put into it, I could categorize quite a large number into the don't bother category. Anything will a small stat adjustment isn't going to really feel that different unless it's speed, and curse is...a gimmick that is very situational. Coverage moves definitely help some mons out, but many of them have mons on the just as good or way better which they'd lose against.

Pokemon Reborn Hardcore [Mod][Discontinued]
Commander replied to Commander's topic in The Mod Market
tbh, a huge chunk of E16 content is going to be implementing the Hardcore cast into the game instead of just breaking the fourth wall. While they won't directly influence the plot (except a couple instances), they do stuff while the story is going on. There'll be some slight confusion jumping from E15's end to E16 which most of it happens at the beginning of the game, but a good chunk of info is available for pretty much the entire game minus the agate segment. Mons wise you'll miss out on the party system (and a whole bunch of alternate leader fights), the new mystery egg mons, and even an additional 2 mons on top of it, plus the secret mons for the party characters. Combined with Ep 16's overhaul on a lot of stuff, I'd say it is very, very well worth replaying it. Ep 17's content won't be nearly as massive of an update as this one since well I don't think I'll be adding much more to previous episode areas. (Pulls out a bottle of rum) Shade's team is actually based very close to his league team only missing Sableye for the most part. No team is perfect and Shade has been able to counter many of his weaknesses to the point we've seen a great divide on if he's easy or hard. The two suggestions you mentioned are key Pokemon for other leaders which is another I try to avoid doubling up on mons as much as possible. I do appreciate the feedback though. One thing I do keep in mind is that what's easy for one person might be really hard for the majority (as Feraligatr is not available for everyone). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I've been taking it easy busy with school and such so there isn't much to say. The light modded version is complete and I'm waiting for the community release before really getting into the CoM and fixing everything. I said January, but I'd honestly say it's looking more like February seeing as I want to get a good chunk of the graphics done. They aren't going to delay the project but more like get everything else done and work on the graphics during the grace period and release whatever ones I managed to finish. -
Leaders and bosses have used repeats of mons and sometimes share the same aces (Luna and Zero share Umbreon and Terra and Solaris share Garchomp). Most fairies are on the slow side so Gardevoir probably is a necessary evil for Xe's team to work. Unless of course Mr. Mime is used instead. But in all seriousness, the team choice grinds down more to the field effect as those really alter the usefulness of certain Pokemon. And we actually also know the aces of the remaining leaders: Dragonite (Saphira) Gigalith (Hardy) Florges (Adrienn) Lapras (Amaria) Scizor (Titania) So you can knock at least one Pokemon off of the guessing list for each of them.

"Go into computer science for your major. Also, you're gonna end up modding a fan-game called Pokemon Reborn. Ninetales is fabulous." And that is how you get younger me's attention and probably creep them out a little. Now if I had a 1,000 words this would be about something else entirely.

Totally not staying up way later than I should be to say Happy Birthday. That's all...I'm not very good with these things. And we do not want to see me try and string a guitar and sign the birthday song. I scar people enough as it is. I hope you enjoy your day. And if you somehow miss this, I will find you, and I will spam it on your skype.

fangame Verdant Tales: Symphonic Horizon
Commander replied to Dylanrockin's topic in Fan-game Exposé
(Looks at TM prize) You just couldn't resist that one, could you? -
I suppose I'm allowed to say this: Allowing more time for beta testers means less time you have to be fraustrated about an error, sending your file into the troubleshooter, reporting problems, and fully enjoying the game. And beta testing periods are not going to becoming any shorter with each episode that follows so it's just best to learn patience now. This episode is very different compared to others as it requires testing throughout the entire game, not just a small section of it. Believe me that I'd love to go through the game and search every nook and cranny for errors to speed up the process, but I'm pretty busy. But to give you an answer that'll help: don't be surprised if it takes longer than three weeks. But I have a theory in which Ame always releases an episode at the worst possible time for me. So looking at my school life: there's a test I have due on Wednesday so...she'll upload it on the Tuesday after Black Friday. I'm calling it now.

Disputatio ad nauseam - Basics of debate
Commander replied to Kurotsune's topic in General Discussion
While there is a lot of reading and good reading to take in, I feel one of the bigger reasons a thread gets locked really hasn't been mentioned. People are going to break these rules in a debate, but a single individual does not cause a thread to be locked. It's how people respond and act towards people who break these rules that often creates a spiral effect. I do think a sub-forum wouldn't be bad for this (I thought we had the political soap box, but I can't recall whether or not if that was a thread or forum), but I think there should be a slight penalty system of either warning points for major violations (though most probably would only last a week at the most) or paying a fine with rupees, however the latter wouldn't really work given the site update. I suppose something could be done with the exp system to really reward those who follow protocols or stay within line. You gotta have a system to teach them as telling really hasn't worked. The community has been able to handle these subjects better, but it went from an F to D in terms of progress so sadly I agree here. I agree and I doubt people will ever reach a point to properly discuss this, but I'd love to be proven wrong. Kind of sad as I know people like Chase really do love to debate and discuss stuff and generally do a good job. -
I'm probably going to take a week off of Reborn until this campaign talk blows over. See ya'll on Tuesday.
-
Okay, I'm kind of staying silent (and likely going to avoid people and these discussions for a while), but the level of toxicity over this thing has gone beyond healthy. I'm not talking just Reborn but just everywhere in general. I get that people are upset with the votes and I was upset at first, but I got over it. Trump is not the end of the world, and maybe he could even bring in change that needed to happen. The election is done and over with and I feel everyone needs to spend a day completely isolated from politics living through this bloody campaign. We're all going to be okay. Once the whole Trump is evil and will ruin the world mindset leaves, I feel then people can talk about issues that will have to be addressed, but in a civil manner. Seriously take a step back and not think about the candidates and just see what people are saying and doing. This also isn't the first time in history where the popular vote did not win.

Pokemon Reborn Hardcore [Mod][Discontinued]
Commander replied to Commander's topic in The Mod Market
The "bookstack" method isn't disappearing. It's moreso just going to be located in Hardcore HQ which I hope players will enjoy exploring or looking at little things in that place. It'll be accessed post episode 16's content as you'll notice something that wasn't there until that point. When the final episode comes, it'll actually have a physical location due to where I plan to have it moved, but I don't know the exact location. As for the sprite department, we know I'm not the most artistic person around, however, I will eventually get all the proper sprites (bar running) for the characters, but that's just going to be two characters per episode if I don't get help as it takes me a very long time to get them done due my perception issue. My eyes can't really see textures all that well. I am having some assistance as we do need the Tauros sprites made though I decided to do this one because it's not a simple copy and paste like others: And if by some miracle you guys want to use any of these sprites that I create for a run on regular Reborn or modding, you are free to use those. -
Fire Emblem on the Forums: Sea of Crossroads OOC
Commander replied to krim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
You know something is going very wrong when me, an outsider jumps in. I'll make this brief before taking my leave. I feel I need to respond as a writer and that person cares little of the consequences that follow for standing up for fellow writers. @Pbood: I don't even want to hear an excuse or trying to justify your bloody answer. I've known you long enough that I can tell you that you know better. That's not the point. You are an outsider to this RP and your just bugging and questioning what they do when in the end they are just trying to have a bit of fun. We outsiders are not forbidden from talking in the OCs, however, we generally don't as it's a form of respect and merely standing by as spectators watching the chaos unfold. In the end we kind of get in the way. That aside: It is very disrespectful to not only question a hosts decisions on design, but to outright say it is pointless. It's a story being threaded by a number of people so of course it's going to be long, but that's the beauty as characters develop over time. Even one character dying early can build and flesh another character despite the dead man's role being so short. RPs aren't about getting to the end or even being successful, it's about playing a persona in a fantasy world. Interactions is the goldmine of this sub-forum. And to add insult to injury, you backtalked both the host and an Auth which in doing so would have gotten you kicked out of this RP, but YOU AREN'T EVEN IN IT! And you even called them twisting your words. They didn't. You're twisting their words if anything. I suggest you leave this poor people alone and zip your lips before digging yourself and even deeper hole. Don't respond or try to justify yourself. Just admit to yourself you're in the wrong and walk away. No need to turn this into a debate or an argument when these people want to play FE RP style. And since I said a lot of negative stuff, I'm not in this RP, how about some nice positive things: -Inno's sprites are nice as always -Love seeing another successful RP and how fast this one is moving -Congrats Krim on being very successful so far -I wanted to join but my awkward availability would slow you guys down -Love seeing all the strategy talk as well -I also tried my hardest to remain calm and collective for you guys because I don't wanna damper you're guys's fun as this seems like a blast -Yay for RP forum not being dead -Also the plan to turn this place into Reborn Emblem is slowly coming together That's all from me hopefully for good unless I actually join. Time to go back to [pointless] modding because people really enjoy playing video game [even though they're pointless and bring nothing to society]. -
Tbh, most of the mons I added on were for Florinia just as a backup, except Rhyhorn. That one was admittedly laziness.

Pokémon Reborn Hardcore: Evolution is for babies
Commander replied to Redo.'s topic in Team Showcase
If you want to make him salty, vote for Staravia And I'm way ahead of you on that El fight. Already planned that baby out and is ready for E16 of Reg Hardcore even. And trust me, that one is cake compared to when you really fight him. Anyways, I can sense the GG salt among you. Don't worry, you wouldn't be the first person who struggled badly against Radomus. In fact, people suggest fight A-Radomus (aka Singles Radomus) just due to Doubles being one of the top 5 hardest (Shelly was number 1 at one point, but fell due to perma-rain being optional now). Good to have you back. And you're probably thankful you have a lot of options now. -
Fixing Bugs when Catching Opponent's Pokemon?
Commander replied to MetrololAce's topic in Resources and Tutorials
To be very specific. Problem A is caused if you do not call the script I have below: Problem B and what should be done from my guessing it to call catching a trainer Pokemon only using Snag Balls though. So for the first part we have to remove checks for the ball being caught such as this one: Just glancing at the code, that is all you should need to do though reborn is a bit more complicated as you'd have to even acquiring the snag machine by calling that script/item in doing so. Only issue is if you catch all of the opponents Pokemon. So you may want to add to the opponent side as part of the If statement: @opponent.party >= 1 (it's getting late so that's probably a little bit off but you get the idea. As that will prevent another glitch from happening. You will need to make sure that the script is called for above when capturing said Pokemon which is the bulk issue. While you can look for help with coding, just copy and pasting what somebody does rarely works out in the long run. I can't promise that what I suggested will fix any of your errors, but I would have to read through all the Shadow Pokemon scripts to be able to give all the answers which I won't. Another error could be in regards to the nickname since when catching the Pokemon you wouldn't be able to nickname a shadow Pokemon. As for the second error, I'm not sure if it has to do with a Pokemon having an item, but probably for the lack of hold item which can be fixed but you'd need to look at hold item scripts. Dunno what's causing it from your info though. -
While fan-games or ideas generally go into the Developing games sub-sub forum, I suppose if it's a story it would go here. You've only given us a storyline which...is only half a game. We can't really judge or show interests if we don't know what we should be interested in. Pokemon availability and story structure (ie the Gym Leaders of this game) are needed first and foremost. Maybe once you clear up what it exactly is, we could give advice or whatever you are looking for.

The status thread wasn't closed early. If anything, it was closed way later than it should have been. Last time for E15 it closed around this point. The reason why it's not 100% is because there is like probably 100 possible things needing to be done to pre E16 areas due to the whole reputation system and script updating. There are A LOT of little things and changes going into E16 we haven't seen in previous episodes which require going through EVERY line of dialogue for checks and such. That's why it wasn't 100% before getting locked. As for why the thread was locked, there was no point in keeping open after seeing it circulate to more or less 1% hype. The developers aren't going to be blogging anything else for the release before it happens anyways so why keep it open? If you want to discuss or speculate for E16, a thread could be made for that anyways eliminating the issue of having it unlocked and removing the whole asking when E16 is gonna happen (or a large chunk of it). As for the release, I'm probably going to say post S&M at the end of November. Will it be worth waiting that long? Yes, yes it will. Just be patient and when it's ready, it will come.

Pokemon Reborn Hardcore [Mod][Discontinued]
Commander replied to Commander's topic in The Mod Market
I wouldn't call Hardcore's AI marvelous, but it managed to work with the old system pretty well due to spending hours manipulating the Pokemon in order to reduce AI errors (though don't ask me why it did a couple things). The AI is better, but I don't want people jumping into E16 thinking the AI is going to be glorious or near perfect and see how it's not that different. The main game's AI is just as bad so...yeah...it's a war. On the flip side, I have most of the graphics done for CoM E16 version. Of course that is only like 6 maps in all. 3 were made by me from scratch though and one is to set up XCoM. Since Hardcore has it's own separate building, the CoM is going to be located there from now on. Even in the Reborn version you'll need to go to that building. Though for that version, you just enter the building. Anyways, I suppose I can show a teaser and you probably can get a lot out of it: -
Due to my obligation I must post this...again

Fixing Bugs when Catching Opponent's Pokemon?
Commander replied to MetrololAce's topic in Resources and Tutorials
Errors are like stop signs. We don't know why they're there until we see the other roads and such. These errors likely come from your script changes as catching an enemies Pokemon should read pretty much like the Shadow Pokemon code (which is probably what you should or could use). Describing your code really can't help us help you in this situation. This is all hypothetical and can't be taken into consideration but: The first error has to do with the opponent's party as catching one of them mean they have one less Pokemon. It's trying to read it as more Pokemon than it really is (since I'm guessing it checks for the number of fainted Pokemon). The second error is an item error...which could mean a number of things for Rejuvenation. No idea what it means though. You'd have to look at the items and check all of that off. And instead of straight up asking for help, you can sometimes find the answer you're looking for such as I did here (which took me two minutes). Edit: Since you are needing the shadow code due to rejuv's design, you will need to make an || statement checking for when the Pokemon is not a shadow in the thread I linked
