[IC] Neon Exodus Evangelion Act 1 - Promised Land

Satomi... did not recall agreeing, per se, but she also really didn't have a choice in the matter. She gave an apologetic look to her father as she was ushered towards the entry plug of the Evangelion that had caught the group. She took an instinctive deep breath as the entry plug filled with LCL - a tech had hastily informed her it was safe to breath, but it felt weird to take in what looked like water and not choke. Then it looked like what she assumed taking a shot of LSD looked like, and suddenly she could see beyond the plug - the crack in her glasses was annoying, but Satomi could work around it. Thought interface set to Japanese - she figured her Father had something to do with setting it to that as opposed to English or German for her. And... synch rate. That was a thing. No idea what it meant. She hoped 29% was normal or good. And... restraints.

Unit 17 took a shaky step into the hanger. Then another. "...Alright, I think I'm starting to get the hang of this." Satomi said, more for her own confidence than anything. Wiggling fingers, alright, don't try anything fancy. Hands can move, good, good - don't try to adjust your glasses, Unit 17 does not have glasses. Right? Eva sized glasses would look stupid and use an entirely excessive amount of glass. She tried to cover for the action by moving the fingers in front of her face. "Check, hands are mobile..." she muttered. She walked forward now, behind Beverly's Evangelion, grabbing another rifle and walking out into the sun.

Satomi took a deep breath (which felt weird in LCL) as the Angel came into sight. Alright, time to do some work. She'd been hefting the rifle - she had the basic idea of how to use a gun, mostly the common knowledge stuff. Brace, aim, shoot. The rest was reloading and safety - not immediately relevant. Anyway, she'd been hefting up the rifle when the redhead came on the channel. Well, she was already in a fight - she had more experience. So, probably a good start point to listen. "Rodger that. I'll do it - I think my one's pretty well armored, it should be good for that kind of thing." she told the others, dropping the rifle and preparing to take Unit-02's position. "...Please be careful." she added lamely, as if that wasn't just something you should do.

Satomi was, to put it simply, fucking scared. You would have to be an idiot not to be. However, she was trying not to let that get in the way of doing what needed to be done. She saw the Angel and in all honesty wanted to run away like any sane woman would. But she couldn't do that. She just couldn't. So, for now - focus on not squishing the people (oh god they're tiny) when she moves to guard them.

Kyou still wasn't certain of the situation. A part of her was still half-convinced that they were just trying to get her to come quietly while they carted her off for endangering the Director's daughter and entering restricted areas without even a passing semblance of clearance. It took until she was sliding into entry plug itself for it to fade, and briefly returned again when the thing started to fill with some sort of liquid - this is way too elaborate, there's no way they'd go through this much trouble just to drown youwhich she was informed via radio was LCL, and completely breathable. And then, she was synced with the cobalt behemoth known as EVA Unit-19.

No pedals, no steering wheel, no clutch, just a couple levers and buttons. . . what kind of vehicle. . . ? And then she could see out through the EVA's eyes. Hell of a camera system. She still fought off the vestiges of the primal terror of drowning, wondering if the Evangelion was trembling like she was. Gigantic robot or no, the prospect of going out there and fighting that thing was terrifying. Especially if a veteran pilot was already being pressed. That thought was elbowed backward by the bizarre mix of familiarity and strangeness offered by the HUD; it was set to Farsi, which, while the language was comfortable to her, just shouldn't have been the case. Why isn't it in English? I suppose I should be happy it's not German. . . There was some sort of targeting system on the right side of her view, but she couldn't make heads or tails of it at the moment. Maybe its purpose would clear up as she got used to the thing.

The asymmetric robot took one hesitant step, trying to avoid the same mistake that Beverly had made. Most of the left arm seemed to be bulkier than the right, and it felt somehow. . . numb. Like she'd been laying on it for too long. There were patches across the thing's torso that felt similarly, and the right foot was the same. Am I not hooked up right? They seemed to move just fine, though, despite the pieces in question almost seeming to not belong to the robot at all - like they'd put some spare parts from a similar, but visibly different model onto the thing. Still, they shared the same color scheme of that strong cobalt blue, with magenta trim separating the plates or forming serial numbers. "I think I'm r-ready to go," she said as she reached out, grabbed a rifle, and then shuffled into the back of the line, clutching the weapon as if it were a precious child.

Beverly let out a small growl at the girl in red comment of course she is going to useful. She leveled her rifle at the angel it was just like those games at the carnival's that her parents use to take her to she was good at those, but this time instead of annoying metal ducks she was shooting a giant worm thing. Even if they they where different the concept was the same aim for the center or well at least the part that looked liked the center, lead them and pull the trigger.  At least that's how Beverly hoped it would work if the advice from earlier still applied to getting this thing to shoot.

Ahmed was completely and utterly certain about what he needed to do next when he picked up a pallet gun on his way outside. He felt a bit disappointed about how easy piloting Evangelion 18 was to be brutally honest, as he had been expecting some form of two month correspondence course culminating in a secret knightly test that he would barely make it out of.  The fact that all he had to do was get inside of the robot and wear some weird headband was....disappointing to say the least.

The fact that he didn't understand most of what was written inside of the HUD did absolutely nothing to deter him as he charged into the fray with the gigantic gun he did not know how to aim and fire properly carried in the hands of an oddly infernal looking rusted giant that he had found himself controlling from within a cockpit that he had metaphorically fallen into. It has been a pretty long day for him, and the lack of commas in that last sentence was perfectly justifiable.

He did not know who was yelling at him right now or why they seemed like Beverly's mother, and he especially didn't know why he decided that this would be a perfect time to try and strafe to the left while firing technically aimed bursts in the general direction of the giant phallic monster while saying "Beverly! Ssssir Kyou! This would be a perfect time to sssshoot sssstraight with me wouldn't it?". Everyone who could hear him speak would note how excited he sounded, and why wouldn't he be? This was pretty damn cool.

What the hell?!

Well, that was a bit more than Asuka asked for a distraction, but it would serve.  She was worried that the apparently crazy pilot of the rusted EVA would mean trouble later on, but now she had more pressing concerns.

"Now!" She said over the video call, while EVA 02 sprinted to change places with Satomi.

As for damage from Ahmed's shots, it was absolutely none - at least to the Angel. The pallet rifle's shells all dripped or bounced mid air after colliding with something invisible to them.

Still running, Asuka spoke to them again. "Ok kids, Angel Killing 101. Those things have a kind of force field called the AT Field - which our EVAs also have. The best way to get past it is to generate one of our own to nullify their's, and then try to find and destroy their core. Which I already did and didn't work, so I suppose this one's got a second core somewhere else in it's body."

It was probably a good thing that the Angel was a gigantic target, as Unit 19 sprayed it with haphazard fire; Kyou wasn't exactly a marksman, nor was she feeling particularly calm and collected at the moment. "How do we do that?" she asked, trying and largely failing to keep the panic out of her voice. Imagine like she was walking, sure, imagine like she was shooting this gun at the thing, yeah she could do that, but she didn't even know what an AT field was, much less how one was generated. Her HUD didn't seem to hold the answers either, though one of the elements that completely mystified her at least seemed to have something to do with their enemy, as it was now attempting to find. . . something.

Ranga rushed towards the entry plug, making short but quick strides to outpace the people escorting her. She practically jumped into the plug the moment it was open for her and gripped the strangely few control-looking sticks she could find inside.......but she gripped them with determination, waiting for her Eva to start. It was a bright golden yellow behemoth with rather slick curvature and a triangular head looking akin to a slice of cake with 8 green dots on its front-the cameras or well, eyes. Shoulders protruding by the ala apparently general Eva design and whatnot. Strangely she could already feel moving wouldn't be stiff.

And so the plug filled with LCL, Ranga taking a deep breath. If she tried her best maybe she could last like a minute without breathing. In that span she would have to defeat the Angel and save everyone. Could she do it? Of course. With anticipation, the vision presented itself to her through a facade of flashing lights and when she knew she had the ability to move given to her as well, she pushed at the commands forcefully, taking Eva Unit 20 into full throttle. She didn't pick up a rifle, she just ran because she was short on time, and her face was red trying to not breathe the LCL. Her movement was wonky and the Evangelion swayed as heck, but she moved fast pushing its torse forwards just trying to smash herself into the Angel she was fast approaching. And approach it she did, and smash herself into it as well...or more precisely, her Eva came to a ful stop once it hit the Angel's AT field, a term the redheaded Asuka just explained to them. From the impact, the insides of Ranga's Entry Plug shook and she took a massive gulp of LCL all at once suddenly as she breathed in shock. But her grip on the controls didn't loosen as she continued to push herself into the Angel's AT field. Curious to see that the LCL was nothing to be afraid of, Ranga remembered there was still a huge monster in front of her and her eyes opened wide. "A-a-am I breaking through it..?" She asked.

Satomi charged into place to protect the civilians, being careful not to step on them. "I-In position..." she reported, glancing back at the people below and behind - she had to stay here, and protect them. Their lives were in her hands, she couldn't mess up, she couldn't run from this- deeeep breath, calm. Or as calm as can be reasonable. "We were hardly given a tutorial - how do we activate that?" she asks. "What's an AT Field' was also a question but it was irrelevant one right now. While waiting for a response, she took a defensive stance - she would not let it past while the Eva could move.

And that was about when Ranga crashed herself into the Angel. "R-Ranga, what are you doing - get back!"

Unit 20's head palms and shoulders were pressed hard against the AT field's barrier and the girl didn't know what else to do but to push the joysticks forward and therefore move forward as clumsily as she could. Her right cheek was throbbing as if she was the one pressing it against a wall.

"I-I can't get back!" She cried to Satomi, turning to face her screen. "..." She quited down to listen to what Asuka was going to say about breaking through the AT field. Maybe she could do whatever that would be...

Beverly grumbles under her breath at the apparent uselessness of the gun she picked up "Hey Doc do we have anything with a bigger kick then this gun? Its like bouncing a ball off the wall its annoying but not getting use anywhere." she said as Ranga ran into the angel "Are you trying to get yourself kill Missy?" Beverly yelled at the girl as she crashed into the angel. Beverly's Eva Unit 16 is was called threw done the gun appallingly at Beverly's annoyance and let out a roar and it started running towards Ranga's Eva "Damn it i coming to get you out of that!" Beverly yelled once the girl said she wasn't able to get away.

That's exactly why I said that the idea was stupid. Asuka mentally complained, but she lost no time before she redirected her EVA to go to Ranga's aid. The Angel had started to turn it's attention - and more importantly, it's mouth - towards the younger girl's unit.

"It's just like the rest of piloting - focus in yourself doing it. Just think really hard of a force field - " she instructed the others while quickly approaching the AT field, along with Beverly. Then her EVA lowered it's head and prepared for impact with it's shoulder. "- like THIS!".

The light around EVA 02 seemed to get slightly distorted just before it collided with the Angel's AT Field, and then - well, it didn't. The air right before Asuka's unit shone in a bright yellow light, octagonal in shape, as the two AT Fields collided. Her Evangelion halted for a moment that seemed too long before cracks started appearing in the octagon and it finally shattered, letting all three EVAs - and the bullets - through. "Right, now avoid the mouth and slash it up!" Asuka commanded, bringing her progressive knife forward.

Ranga yelped as she saw the monstrosity's hideous mouth turn towards her, letting go of the controls just in time when Asuka blasted through the Angel's AT field. Unit-20, having been pressed against the AT field, lunged forward and stumbled to the ground before the Angel, a moment's respite before she knew she would need to quickly act again....but where was she supposed to pull the knife out of?

Pushing her Eva clumsily onto its knees and then back up to its feet, Ranga pressed herself against the Angel's form, basically hugging its bony protrusions. She couldn't figure out how to manipulate her Eva's hands to try and break them apart but at the very least she was messing with its movement.

For some odd reason Ahmed would seem to have made a conscious decision to approach the situation cautiously for once as he marched towards the angel while he continued to open fire on it. Although absolutely no one would be surprised when he almost immediately tossed the gun away and charged towards his target before attempting to land a hopefully devastating double jump kick on it while he did his best to concentrate on the idea of his Evangelion's feet being covered in an equally armor piercing force field. He presumably failed to do much to faze the angel after he got himself distracted by the thought of making an "Well I certainly got a kick out of that" pun.

He would then frantically look for where this progressive knife was located by practically shouting out the words "WHAT PROGRESSIVE KNIFE?". While he also tried his best to punch the gigantic worm without having to get hit by it as well.

Satomi maintained her position guarding the civilians, but tried to get a better angle on the Angel from which she could fire - without hitting Ahmed, Ranga, or that redhead. She didn't have the greatest aim, but the targetting systems in the Eva helped to make up for it, and she fired off some rounds - although she was inexperienced and didn't quite realize that maybe full auto wasn't the way to go, she managed to avoid hitting any of the others in any serious manner (although only some of the shots hit the Angel) or crushing the civilians under shell casings. "Note to self; burst fire." she muttered to herself.

Beverly's Eva backed away from the angel as Ahmed entered into Melee with the angel. it was getting a bit crowed and the Little Miss proved to be difficult to drag away from the angel in the mess. Seeing Ahmed gun lying where he through it she really regretted throwing hers like she did. She moved her Eva to pick it up. After grabbing the gun Beverly moved to behind or the side or where ever she could get a clean shot in at the angel and unloaded teh gun as much she she could in to it with out hitting the other Eva's.

Kyou, perhaps wisely, dropped the rifle. She was aware enough to realize that continuing to spray fire at the Angel was likely going to do more damage to her friends than she dealt to the monster in the process. Slash it up? She's got a knife, do I have a knife? Her Eva looked down toward itself; no belt or satchel was in evidence. If I was going to hide a knife on a giant robot, where would I put it. . . She started to run toward the Angel, briefly wondering about the sound that Beverly's Eva had just created - robots weren't supposed to roar, were they? - and trying to locate the knife. Her Eva reached up and felt at a shoulder pylon - was that a hinge? Kyou pulled it open and sure enough there was a knife in the robot's hands shortly afterward. Debating between gritting her teeth and closing her eyes, she started to circle around the Angel, trying to find a good place to begin slashing at it.

Asuka got in solid hits with her Progressive Knife, but failed to find the core once again.

Ahmed's jump kick landed but, although the angel did take a good impact from that, so did Ranga on the other side of the monster. It ended up with her EVA falling butt first on the ground.

The Angel then reacted differently; then before; it's "ribs" opened with a sickening noise and started slashing at the EVAs near it an impressive speed.

"Shit-" Asuka started saying before one of the bone blades hit EVA 02's chest, it's edge tearing through the thick armour. She stumbled backwards to get away from the Angel's range, letting out a groan of pain. Some kind of liquid in high pressure sprayed out from the injure, in a manner disturbingly alike to blood.

Some of the other Evangelions nearest to the Angel also got hit by the surprise attack, but everyone's attention was quickly turned towards Beverly - for, with a roaring sound, the ground beneath her EVA gave way and what appeared to be another identical Angel arose from it, closing it's mouth around Unit 16's belly. This Angel had it's colours swapped compared to the other one, with black flesh, white ribs - and another blood red core on it's forehead.

Kyou jumped back in startlement when the attack began, the strange structures dragging across the chestplate of her Eva before she could get out of the way. She felt a dull burning where it had struck - was that supposed to happen? She forced herself to move again through the fear that threatened to lock up her legs (well, this time it'd be the Eva's legs and not hers) around the white monster and toward the black one. Taking a deep, still unnatural-feeling breath of the LCL around her, her Eva sprinted forward and attempted to leap straight toward the core, knife outstretched. Can't let Beverly get eaten by that thing, I still owe her one. . . !

The black Angel quickly recognized the danger of Kyou's approach and, opening it's huge mouth, flung the damaged EVA 16 towards Kyou's Unit.

Meanwhile, Asuka had already recovered enough from the wound in her EVA's chest to start thinking. As I thought, two cores. She thought, smirking. "Ok, now we found our target! Aim for the red orb!" Then EVA 02 dashed forward, it's pilot in hopes of finishing the fight fast.

Ranga fell down and in response to the Angel's assault, raised her arms up, only for them to be easily shrugged aside by the slashing bones, leaving cuts and bruises on the armor, and a throb in the girl's own arms and buttocks, strong enough for her to yelp as she took a bite out of the LCL. Felt easier than to breathe it in large quantities in shock.

The arrival of the second Angel shook her up but she couldn't get up, the Evas legs just gave out or maybe it was her that was too afraid to move. "I-I can't move..." She yelped at the screens in panic.

There was no way Kyou could dodge in time. She dropped her knife in startlement as Unit 16 flew at her, letting out a yell of startlement that quickly turned into a grunt of pain. The Eva slammed into her, sending Unit 19 into the ground. In the tangle, she wasn't sure where her knife went, the status of her own Eva (other than that her own chest hurt dully), or even whether Beverly had landed straight on top of her. At least the girl was free of the Angel's maw. . .

Once the angel bit on to Unit 16 Beverly let out a scream of pain as a bright green liquid started to leak out of the unit. The scream continued once the angel threw her and ended in a grunt as she hit Kyou's unit. Beverly didn't know why but she hurt from the bite to the impact of units Beverly was hurting all over. She her arms and legs to make sure nothing was broken luckily the only damage she could find was a cut above eyes that was bleeding badly. Looking around she see's Kyou "Nice catch."She says not in her usually grumpy or sarcastic voice but in a more genuine thanks. She did her best to get her Eva off of Kyou's and help the other girl up.

Satomi frowned as various things began to happen - and she couldn't move or the civilians would be in danger. So she was left at range, hoping her Palette Rifle didn't run out of ammunition. She aimed at the core and fired. "Ranga..." Satomi said as the younger girl seemed to panic, looking at her screen. "Calm down - you can move. We're all here, things are going to be fine - try to find one of the rifles somebody dropped, and try to shoot at the Angel if you don't think you can get close." she said, sounding far more calm than she was, but panicking would not help her out here.

As Ranga´s Evangelion stood still on the ground, the white Angel turned towards her with it´s gargantuan mouth wide open, as if it would swallow her whole. It was a moment that seemed to last forever, but the monster suddenly halted as it noticed Satomi preparing to shoot. It then abandoned Ranga and moved quickly to block the bullets´path with it´s own body, the car sized projectiles sinking in it´s white flash or bouncing from it´s black ribs as it intensely threw an eyeless stare at Satomi.

On the other battle front, the black Angel responded Ahmed´s attack with another lightining fast movement from it´s ribs. Asuka, who was running towards and predicted it would try that again, prepared to jump over the wall of moving, sharp bones, planning to strike the core from above.
