[IC] Neon Exodus Evangelion Act 1 - Promised Land

Satomi froze for just a moment as the Angel looked her way, a cold fear shooting down her spine - she'd been at range, not in direct combat really. But that would likely change in a moment. Deeeep breath (er... gulp? LCL and all). She took a step forward, then another - if she was directly over the civilians when it charged then they might get crushed. She swapped clips in the palette rifle when a monitor thing yelled at her that she was running low in the clip. Focus, don't panic, don't run - she adjusted her glasses (without making the Eva do it this time). PA system, PA system... "Hey down there," she said, trying to keep her voice steady, "Might want to brace yourselves. Maybe get a bit closer to the ship. Just a suggestion."

Kyou's chest hurt. More than it should have, given the fact that she wasn't actually hurt by the impact. She accepted Beverly's assistance in standing up, then froze. Where's my knife? That thing almost swallowed an entire Eva whole, how is that knife even going to do anything to it? Her head twitched slightly. No, don't panic. You've gotta stay calm, you've gotta help your friends, or everyone's going to die. . . ! She looked down at the ground ahead of herself. Okay. Focus. You'll never hear the end of this from Beverly if you don't. There, a few Eva-sized steps forward, the weapon laid, pressed into the dirt. She took those steps and leaned down, retrieving the weapon and starting to move toward the Angel; hopefully, she could distract it from Asuka.

After helping Kyou up and seeing her grab her knife and move towards the angel. Beverly looks around to see if there was as gun near by. Seeing one laying near by she picks it up and starts moving around the black angel shooting it hoping that it will help the Kyou and Asuka in some way.

Ranga heard Satomi's voice through a haze and shook her head. She couldn't focus on it as she screamed when the Angel turned to face her, only to be driven away by gunfire. Still breathing heavily, chest moving up and down more rapid than ever, she did the only thing she could-started crawling on all fours trying to find a rifle to use somewhere around.

Asuka's jumping tactic was a sucess - or so it seemed when her EVA, in a movement that seemed way too nimble for a machine of that size, leapt above the barrage of sharpened white bone and started falling right above the core. Asuka just needed to position EVA 02 for the landing and drive the progressive knife down in the crimson orb beneath her and all would be over, and she could go treat that ever increasing pain in her chest and arm.

What happened next was nowhere near that, though.

"Critical synchronization levels." an automated voice sounded inside her cockpit. "Evangelion Unit 02 will now shut down."

What the other pilots heard was only a series of what sounded like a lot of cursing in german and the words "NOT NOW!" as the red Evangelion landed face first, like a bag of trash on the monster's forehead.

The Angel reacted by closing it's jaws around the EVA's left leg and, apparently reacting to the multiple EVAs swarming it, disappeared back in the hole where it came from.

At the same time the white Angel acted, but in the opposite way - it started to speed up out of the hole on the ground beneath it, with more and more of it's white body showing, until at some point it turned black. A moment later the mouth of the "other angel" appeared, still dragging Asuka's EVA, and then the whole thing was in the air.

The two Angels were actually only one gargantuan being, with a mouth and core in each extremity.

And it was jumping towards Satomi.

The experienced pilot was out of the fight. It was just the newbies. Pilot status unknown. Not good.  Satomi felt time slowing down as she rose her hand to the Eva's wing. She couldn't run. The Angel leapt out of the ground, dragging the red Eva with it. The Angel was huge. Bigger than the Evas. That was also not good. She couldn't run. The Angel was leaping towards her. In the control room, an aide was probably telling her father the Progressive Knife was deployed. A crowd of civilians stood under her. If she dodged, and she knew she could, they would die. That was a certainty, one of the few in this situation. She couldn't run away. Unit 17 braced itself, knees bending a bit.

Behind her was the ship. If she moved, the Angel would have a clear path. If she moved, it would destroy the ship. If she moved, everyone would die.

The ground cracked beneath the titanic legs of the Evangelion. Dust shot up around the civilian group. Satomi's progressive knife whirred white hot. Satomi screamed a wordless shout of defiance as her Eva's legs pushed into the ground.

She couldn't run away.

But staying still, that wouldn't work either.

Ahmed's EVA practically flew backwards when the Angel ignored his random attempts to cut it up roughly and simply hit the man. Causing it to fall down onto the ground and bounce up again a few times before the EVA painfully crashed into something he didn't bother to look at.

It took quite a bit of time for Ahmed to find the courage to make his EVA stand up again. As he was too busy staring at the extraordinarily large Angel for a few moments as he found himself thinking about what he should do next. On one hand his best friend looked like she would be completely and utterly fucked if he didn't help, but on the other hand there was really no other option and he really should not have used that idiom earlier.

Ahmed tried his best to ignore the amount of blood that was coming out of the holes in his EVA's left arm when he stood up and carelessly charged towards the Angel before he attempted to jump kick it and stab it at the same time while shouting some nonsense in German about how "THERE WILL ONLY BE TWO IMPACTSSS, ME HITTING YOU AND YOU HITTING THE FLOOR!".

Everything was somehow going even more wrong than it had previously - something Kyou faintly noted as a massive accomplishment. The one competent person here was now utterly incapacitated with their EVA probably seconds from being dismembered and the monster was now headed directly toward. Bâbâ, okaasan, nii-chan. . . Are you even still there? They were supposed to meet outside the ship after the checkup. Her parents could have been working on the post-landing work, but they'd done their best to get everything done before they touched down so they could get out early. . .

With a wordless yell, she ran at the Angel. She tried to time a jump so that she'd be able to hit the core with her knife in midair as she collided with the worm-like monster - but as the Eva's legs pushed off, sending her on her way to do or die, she closed her eyes.

Beverly didn't like how this was going everyone was jumping at the giant angel that wasn't going to be good given when thing jump at it was when the angel put up that bone wall thing that rip the Eva's up. Her Eva lowered it's gun and drew it's knife Beverly wasn't to sure at what to do she didn't think that she would be able to rush in and stab it after the Angel did that bone thing she was to far away. As she thought she saw Ranga's Eva crawling on the ground close to the angel and an idea popped into her head.

Opening up that talking thing to Ranga "Okay Little Miss i know your scared but i'm going need you to do something.  Your going need to stab that things core your the only one close enough to do it. I'm going to join the other's in rushing that thing odds are we are going to get thrown away by it doing something, but after that it probably will be open for you to stab it. Okay?." She said as her Eva slid her knife towards Ranga's Eva "I don't know much about how to get you motivated to do something, but just think of the reason why you came out here and use that and take those few steps you will need to stab it." Got it?" Beverly didn't wait for a response from the girl before  her Eva's started charging the angel fire at it the whole time doing her best to avoid hitting any of the others.

Ranga was scared. Like, real scared. The most scared she'd ever been in her life. She couldn't grab a hold of a gun and she couldn't get away from the Angels-uhm...Angel. Everyone else seemed to be panicking as well, but in all that disarray she heard Beverly's voice calling out to her-the Little Miss.

"Huh?" She listened closely, her Eva stopping. "I'll need to stab it!? B-but I'm not even able to move this-" The Eva was back on its feet, holding Beverly's progressive knife in its hand. Ranga's eyes widened in surprise, but she could feel a new warmth underneath her controls, and she wouldn't let go. She could see the Angel's core. Everyone was trying to busy it so she could stab it. Could she stab it? C-could she move like Asuka in this Eva? Somehow, she felt she could. After all, they needed her now.

And so, stepping forward, the ground shook and it cracked. Ranga threw herself into a rabid chase towards the white Angel's core. With the others' attacks distracting and redirecting the monster, she could follow it and cut its path. If it tried to dive into the ground, she wouldn't hesitate to throw Unit 20's body straight at it, no matter how much it hurt. Now it all counted on them. Either way, Ranga's knife would glisten against the new sun's rays, casting a broken mirage of a shadow as the contours within the core-the heart swayed, and she would try her best to stab at it as hard as she could.

For a moment, everything seemed to be slowed down - the Angel's immense form travelling mid-air, the EVAs jumping towards it or preparing to. In the control room all the personnel held their breath, with the exception of Daisuke Hashimoto, who yelled his daughter's name.  The civilians behind Satomi cowered in fear or started to run at the sight of the behemoth flying towards them, with only the now small looking robot betweem them and certain death.

For a moment everything came to a halt in the pilots' perception - And then all Hell broke loose at once.

The Angel opened it's white mouth, but Satomi managed to avoid being swallowed whole and jumped with amazing power, leaving a cloud of dust and debris where she stood a second before. Her EVA crashed with the Angel, the yellow light of an AT Field visible for a moment.

Ahmed hit the angel in the side, more specifically, his foot hit the wall of bones that once again came to life to defend the Angel's main body. Those sliced through the EVA's foot and tore it to pieces, leaving what looked disturbingly similar to a bloody stump in the end of it's leg.

Beverly was the next to hit their foe, after sinking a multitude of projectiles in the beast's body while covering the distance that separated them. The blood like liquid still spilled from the wound on her EVA's belly, soaking the ground beneath her as she ran. Then she added her almost hundred-meter tall Evangelion's weight to Satomi's and Ahmed's, managing to avoid the area protected by the Angel's bones.

The Angel was thrown off course by those three actions, and ended up crashing on the ground to Satomi's left, throwing the girl's EVA away with the impact, but still not hitting the civilians nor Noah . Beverly was similarly sent flying when it's other side shook EVA 02 and ripped off it's left leg, sending the red unit flying, spraying that same blood like fluid all over the place, until it crashed with EVA 16.

Kyou, for a strike of luck or great instinctive reaction, was the first to sink her knife into the remaining core. It resisted for a bit, extremely hard and tough to break, until Ranga showed up and completed the strike with her own knife.

The red orb parted in two.

And the black and white Angel stopped moving.

Kyou's eyes were still slammed shut - everything was quiet. Or at least, it felt that way. She trembled, and the EVA shook slightly with her. Did I do it? Am I dead. . .? Slowly, almost painfully, she opened her eyes. The sight of the core, split in twain with her and Ranga's knives lodged in it. "Chi. . . Is it dead? Is. . ." She swallowed audibly over the comms. "Is everyone alive?"

Satomi didn't move for a minute, catching her breath like the others were. Her glasses had been knocked off as she fell to the side. She felt pain where the Eva had made contact, mostly, but the extra armor cushioned it some - her left shoulder hurt, her chest hurt, and she may or may not have sprained or fractured something - hard to tell, most of her body had a dull ache. Why wasn't the Eva itself more damaged? There'd been something orange - it couldn't have been the Angel's AT field, that was broken, had she...? Then Kyou's words came through the radio, and she looked to see the Angel's core split by a pair of Progressive knives. "...I-I think we got it." she says quietly. Then louder, as she stood, the words more directed at the staff in the control room. She looked at the other Evas - Ahmed's and the red one didn't look so good "Fath- Doctor Hashimoto, Admiral, the Angel l-looks dead. W-We got it." She tried to stay formal but the excitement in her tone was palpable. "We might have some wounded though - Ahmed's and the red Evangelions have taken some damage." Calm, stay calm... the adrenaline wasn't quite draining yet but she was closer to the civilians than she wanted to be and a misstep might have consequences.  "A-Also, we've got some civilians out here - once we're sure it's down can you open up for them?" that last was said over the Eva's speakers, so the people below could hear.

...They'd done it. They'd killed it. She managed to turn off her speakers just before she started laughing in that way that people who are just elated to be alive do. She'd had a plan when she jumped but she hadn't expected it to work! She'd just had to try, and the others did their things she didn't expect, and they'd won! A-And the civilians were ok, and the ship was ok, and- ha, they were alive! She made sure the Eva wouldn't move as she did and grabbed her glasses, that were floating through the LCL. ...Yep, new lenses needed. She put them on and the view from her right eye was completely fragmented. Still, didn't feel right without them being on, even if it made her look a bit silly in the vidscreen.

Alright, calm, calm... "Kyou, Ranga? Could you make sure it's dead? Me and Beverly are going to grab Ahmed and the red pilot, they might be hurt." she asked, as she walked to where Ahmed had fallen. ...Well that was gruesome, but the Plug didn't look damaged so Ahmed ought to be alive. She got her friend to his feet, and put the arm around her shoulder. "Ahmed, are you alright...ish? Respond if you can... please...?"

Beverly groaned as she heard the voices of Kyou and Satomi she was feeling very light headed and her body hurt like she got hit by a truck. "Yeah I'm alive as far as i can tell, this would be a really bad afterlife if i wasn't." she said with a small laugh. She got her Eva  up and slowly made her way over to the red pilot it wasn't moving. "You alive in there or do i have to drag a corpse back to the ship?" She asked as she had her Eva  support the red one on its remaining leg

The whole world stopped as Ranga glanced to the side to notice Kyou's Eva by her own, and it moved in frames as she pushed the hand down, something telling her to go for the crack already formed by the other's knife. Black on white, soundless, until a crack broke it, and the world around it as well. The young girl's body flinched as it was flung back into full speed, gasping in exhilleration, torso leaning forwards over the dead fallen Angel. They'd somehow done it, and she found herself in the same position as her Eva, except with her leaning over the controls in the plug. The Eva didn't move.

"I-I'm alive too! A-and the Angel's dead, I suppose!" Ranga chimed in happily. Her heart was racing but she felt calmer already. She didn't know what Satomi thought when she asked to check if the Angel was dead, but she gladly agreed anyways and pushed her Eva back to its feet, the controls feeling wonky once again. She kneeled and tried poking the Angel's body. "..? You're dead, right?" The others were already taking care of Asuka and Ahmed. She loosened up further as she saw them help them up. They were fine now and could finally live happily on this new planet, right~?

"Fath- Doctor Hashimoto, Admiral, the Angel l-looks dead. W-We got it."

There was an uproar at the control room following Satomi's words. The officers and staff jumped from their chairs, laughed, and some hugged their colleagues, celebrating the kid's triumph - and being allowed to live another day, of course.

Admiral Sauer let out a relieved sigh, and Dr. Hashimoto laid back in his chair with his eyes closed for a moment before answering. "...Alright Satomi, we're opening the main hatch. Please bring the damaged units back to the hangar if you can, it will save much time." He paused for a bit before adding "And good job." to the sentence.

Out on the field again, the Angel (thankfully) didn't react to Ranga's question and kept immobile where once was the camp. The ship's main hatch opened slowly and teams of soldiers and medical staff rushed out to aid the survivors in front of it and look for more of them in the battlefield, for unlikely that it could be. Most of the personnel flinched when they saw the EVAs and wasted some moments staring at them dumbfounded. Some of the soldiers that came along seemed to know what was going on though, as those people were quickly called out by them and hurried to do their duties.

"You alive in there or do i have to drag a corpse back to the ship?"

"Huh, as if something like this would be enough to kill me." Asuka answered through the radio. Even though she said that in a defiant tone, the pain was apparent in her voice. Lying in the cockpit with her eyes closed and her teeth gritting, the first pilot fought to control the pain in her leg - which, unlike the EVA's was still in place, thankfully. She had cut off communications earlier when her unit shut down so the other pilots wouldn't hear her screaming and lose focus, and after some time it appeared that the control staff managed to cut off her neural connection with the EVA so she wouldn't feel all of the pain. Took them too long though, and a lot of it still lingered.

"Now, if you have time to joke about an injured colleague, how about you grab that leg for me and help me up?"

Asuka regretted the suggestion as soon as she looked around and found her EVA's leg. Far different from what a robot leg should look like, it had surprisingly few metallic components beneath the thick layer of armour, and all too much stuff that was, unmistakably, biologic. Muscle, bone, veins and a lot of blood. No doubt Beverly would have seen it by now and Asuka wondered how she would react.

Ahmed reacted the way a man would to having his leg ripped off, (or at least feeling like he had his leg ripped off anyway) and of course that meant that he did not stop screaming the entire time as he tried to crawl his way towards the hangar.

Thankfully he had turned off his radio before hand, and this meant that no one on the team would be able to hear his vast collection of swearwords. Although they would probably get annoyed at his EVA's roaring.

He was quite surprised when Satomi picked his EVA up, mostly because he couldn't hear what she was saying and spent most of the trip to the hangar in relative silence.

Satomi was understandably concerned at her friend's lack of response - although the Eva still moving somewhat made her think he's probably alive. Probably. She hoped. She hurried (as well as an Evangelion could) back towards the ship, with Ahmed and his giant robot(?) in tow.

She had certainly noticed how... fleshy, the injury was. How could she not? She'd had to try not to vomit, which would suck considerably given she was in liquid. But that concern was taking a backseat for now, but she'd certainly have questions.

"...And good job."

Satomi blinked. "...T-Thank you, father." she said quietly.

Kyou breathed an audible sigh of relief - not that she felt particularly relaxed at the moment, in fact she was barely holding it together - on hearing no one was dead. She moved dully toward the hangar, strangely eager to just be on her own two feet again. She stumbled and nearly fell when she caught sight of the dismembered EVA - That's not a machine. That is NOT a machine. What the hell is this? What am I driving right now? She'd grown up her entire life around machinery of all shapes and sizes, and none of them had bone or muscle and they didn't bleed when you took them apart. Just hold it together until you can get out of this. . .

"Okay" Beverly said as she set down the red Eva. She walked her Eva over to the dismembered leg. She took a moment to look at it, it weirded her out "why was if fleshy robots aren't suppose to be like that." Well she was looking at it her hand and the hand of the Eva went and rested on there bellies for a moment. Shaking her head to to snap herself out of the thoughts running through her mind she looked at her hand not seeing any blood on it she nodded and picked up the leg. She walked back over to the red Eva and hosted it up on her's shoulder, and walked the two of them back to the ship setting both the Eva and its leg down and waited to get taken out of the plug.....she needed a shower.

When the six Evangelions arrived in the hangar the maintenance staff guided them to their respctive holding bays (Asuka's and Ahmed's needed cranes to do the job) and soon they were all locked in position again by multiple restraints. The entry plugs were taken out and replaced by signal-cutting ones, and the pilots were greeted by nurses who took them past the control room and into a small medbay that was right beside it. There was a rush of people moving towards the EVAs, presumably the maintenance crew already starting the repairs, and all of those who passed by the kids looked at them with curiosity, said thanked and congratulated them. Dr. Hashimoto was still inside the control room, for those who bothered to look for him, apparently being yelled at by an angry looking Dr. Alma Neummann.

Once in the medbay, they went through a number of health check-ups (for the second time in the day) before the doctors assured them they had no injuries at all - although some had some fading symptoms of shock - and the pain they felt earlier was not related to their bodies at all. The doctors themselves were confused about that but, with nothing else they could do, the children were told to go take a shower in the locker rooms behind the bay and then go back to the control room for a debriefing.

Ahmed thought about how fleshy the EVA's leg was as he practically fell out of the plug. Although he managed to unsteadily get back to standing on his own two feet before he gave Satomi a hopefully comforting hug while he said "That was really awesome! Also you are fine right? None of you are injured or anything?".

He would continue to rattle off a dozen questions about many different subjects that had very little to do with anything to try and calm everyone else down as he limped over to the med bay. Although he just found himself having to ask "Do you have another shower or separate showers or something? Because I just can't bathe in the same place as four women, it just wouldn't be proper." As he really didn't want to seem like a pervert.

Satomi stumbled out of her Entry Plug, coughing out some of the leftover LCL. She still felt some pain where the Eva had been hit and where she'd been bumped around but she couldn't do much about it. She rushed over to the holding bay for Ahmed's Eva. He hadn't been responding, so she was worried, and understandably relieved when he managed to leave the plug of his own power. She returned the hug -at a glance she'd look fine to Ahmed, besides the numerous cracks in the lens of her glasses. "N-No, I don't think so, a bit sore but that's about it... did you turn off your radio? Why weren't you responding...?"

After that, the nurses rushed the young... Satomi supposed they were pilots, now. The nurses rushed them to the medbay - she'd only had a moment to look for Father but well, he was evidently... busy. The whole checkup was practically a blur, the adrenaline finally beginning to crash and Satomi was getting all sorts of tired, and sore. So she was stumbling a bit as they got to the locker rooms. "*Yawn* Don't they have... a boy's locker room, you think?" she muttered, hefting the bag she'd been given that contained a change of clothes for her when they were done (seeing as her current ones were sorta... soaked in LCL?).

Beverly was happy to get out of the Eva something about it was really bothering her, She was less happy that her clothes where soaked in the LCL and even more annoyed when the nurses said that the pains she felt where nothing to do with her that unsettled her. She listened in on Satomi's and the boy's conversation "Yeah its over there." she said pointing to a door that had a picture of a man over it.  After all the girls went into the girls locker room she glared at the boy Ahmed "I better not catch you peepping on us. If i do I will rip your eyes out." she said flatly before closing the door on him.

After making sure the door was secured Beverly went over to a bench and quickly started taking off her clothing. She looked annoyed at having to take her jacket off so early after finally getting to wear it again. Underneath her clothing the other girls would see A) her undergarments where a light green color and a lot cuter then what they may of thought she wore and .B) her body was slender and toned with a decent sized bust (if i had to say it would a about a C cup because America). After she finished undressing she tossed her wet clothes into what ever there was to put them in grabbed a towel and headed into the showers.

Ahmed was a bit too busy with closing the door that he assumed would lead to the boy's shower behind him to reply to Beverly's statement. As he had realized that his clothes felt really soggy and uncomfortable. He would spent the next few moments almost obsessively cleaning and grooming himself while he sang a jaunty little tune about finally finding someone's true love (and quite possibly making yourself look like quite a fool in front of them.
