I wouldn't bet on it. We've already seen leaders using competitive items that we don't have access to, so I wouldn't be surprised if leaders got megas while we don't.

Mannnnn @$#% these water fields. How you gonna take away Gyrados and Lanturn then send us underwater, that's some first class shenanigans.

Real note, these fields seem a tad OP in favor of gym leaders. I mean unless you're rolling with more than one water type or electric special attacker these fields might make you feel like less of a person. Well Yolo so good luck to my Blaziken/Charizard starters like myself.

Damage: There's still Vaporeon and a few other water absorb 'mons, and Swampert. And you can also go back to an older episode to get those two. >.>
