  9. I simply don't believe that Amaria's psychosis excuses the things she is doing. On my first playthrough of E17, I thought that Amaria was only just realizing how toxic her relationship with Titania is. But, her recent memories were already wiped, which implies that Amaria is cognizant of her toxic nature and let's Titania take a dive for an easy out, which is exactly what makes me disgusted by her actions. With this new information, you can formulate that all of Amaria's past suicide attempts weren't because of despair, but a tactic to guilt Titania into staying with her, a method she has used 17 other times. Amaria's really just a terrible friend when you get down to it. Titania isn't either, because she only maintains the status quo and refuses to try to actually help Amaria... even after 17 suicide attempts. Corey's another character I hate because he has basically zero redeeming qualities. In the brief time that we know Corey we learn that - He is a deadbeat father - He is a terrorist whose actions caused death and widespread destruction - He blames the player for his poor decision-making and subsequently tries to murder us - He works for the very organization that killed his wife The crazy thing about Corey is that he believes that he is justified in all of these actions. Corey neglects his parental duties and actively takes a job that harms innocents solely so he can keep his wife's keepsake, even though Team Meteor literally has no reason to let Corey keep the ring. The worst part is that the game tries to make me sympathize with the main who had previously blamed me for everything wrong in his life 10 minutes ago. Corey is a jerkface. Maybe he gets points because Shade made him a meme The characters I genuinely like are people like Cain. While they both have their flaws, they are able to work past them. Cain, lewd jokes aside, is somebody who always wants others to be happy. A lot of his actions, specifically trying to help the orphans, directly coincide with this sentiment. While leaving Aya with his rightful responsibilities was kinda bad, he never tries to underscore what he did and chooses to continue helping others. I like Cain because he is consistent, and while he may at first seem annoying, grows to be a very reliable companion in the journey. Cain also exemplifies what I think is fitting of a more mature Pokemon story: something more grounded in reality.
  10. I like this post, and can definitely see where the nuance comes from, but the problem I have with Amaria (and to a lesser extent, Titania) is that the writing doesn't make it seem like the traits mentioned are two sides of the same coin. Sociopath Amaria speaks and acts nothing like the Amaria we knew, which implies that the previous Amaria was indeed a mask. Unlike many tragic heroes, I don't think Amaria has any conflicting motivations. In the diary, she only does things to be the beacon her status needs her to be. She evidently doesn't value Titania's friendship because she willingly lets her clingyness corrode her friend. In actuality, I used to sort of feel bad for Amaria because she's somebody who tries to cheer everyone around her, yet has nobody to support her. However, E17 chooses to retcon those motivations and replace them with the toxic, sadistic motivations that are evident now. It feels like a really cheap Yandere schtick than an actually conflicted individual, and her (along with Corey) inadvertently paint mental psychosis in a rather negative light. I'm a bit strapped for time, so I guess I'll just say that I think Radomus is a bad Chessmaster type character. The protagonist already knows that El is evil because he is with Team Meteor through some dialogue in the mountain, so does Radomus through Luna. The only two people who don't trust him are apprehensive because he isn't being straight with them. His untrustworthiness comes from his ass-backwards planning, and not from his motivations. That's another problem I have, we have no clue about his motivations, which is sort of important for a character like this. You don't need to know the reason behind his motivations, but this character trope sort of needs a drive. Radomus doesn't, so he seems like some immature manchild who puts people in peril solely for his own amusement.

So I guess I'll paste it here. I'll probably explain the controversial characters later because I gotta do something soon and don't have time for the usual overblown essay. They do go in order, BTW
  12. You make it sound like Reborn is some obscure 90s RPG that is limited by the technology that supports it, yet it clearly isn't. Essentials (at least compared to traditional ROM hacking) is rather easy to learn and isn't as restrictive as ROM hacking in terms of what you can do in it. Reborn has shown that it can put Essentials to the limits in terms of coding, so something as simple as HM allocation should be no sweat (relatively). Also where are these percentages coming from? Maps? These numbers seem arbitrary, and no matter how far the game is in completion, there is almost always room for polish in some areas. Look at the recent AI changes, Relationship System, or Team changes in the past 2 episodes, those are changes that were made far later in development than field effects, and where no doubt harder to incorporate than a HM fix Actually, Cain's hesitations about adding the starter to his team are removed, and nothing is really hurt by this change objectively. If one likes the monotype teams more, that's fine, but breaking the monotype tradition doesn't really hurt anything at this point. HMs don't need to be abolished, they only need to be able to be used with ease. Even with the current system, I still find myself having to give a slot to a Surfer just so I don't have to lug an HM slave around during required story parts. HMs also aren't friendly to a lot of Pokemon. I know my Greninja would much rather be carrying Hydro Pump over Surf, but I can't really make room for the former because I need the latter's utility. Thesuzerain's games may be unpolished, but the removal of HMs is something that made the games less frustrating than it could have been, and in my experience, never did their incorporation seem clunky or uninviting. It really isn't true that all simple solutions are unpolished. simple does not denote lazy or easy. It refers to how intuitive and efficient something is. A simple solution can be polished, look good, or add missing components to games. The problem I have with Reborn's exploration is intrinsically linked to HMs and move-allocation, having to trek back to the PC to get a Pokemon with a specific move so I can explore an area further is incredibly tedious to me. It makes the exploration feel uninviting, like a chore that needs to be done to get something rather than an experience that rewards my curiosity. Luna's gym isn't somehow made bearable by the fact that Rock Smash has type advantage. 40 BP fighting coverage is beyond terrible at this point in the game. I hate the mountain areas of Reborn in particular because it seems like I have to plan for them in order to get everything I need in one visit. Whether it's allocating a third to half of my team to HM slaves, or training up Pokemon with Power Gem and Earthquake, or if its one of the billion goddamn strength puzzles, it feels like these puzzles are a test of my patience rather than my observational skills and puzzle-solving. Something like the Gible puzzle is fun, Something akin to To Teknite's Power Gem, Earthquake, repeat is not fun. I know that there are mods that exist in this community that are easy to use, but that isn't an excuse for the devs. That's like saying Bethesda shouldn't be held responsible for Skyrim's myriad glitches just because the USP mod exists. A lot of mods tend to clash with each other, so I often have to choose between certain mods because they don't work with Waynolt's modpack. Hell, I like playing Hardcore/Redux, but most of the mods aren't compatible with it, forcing me to deal with some of the clunky HM features. Reborn is a game that still has a loyal and active community, there is still plenty of time to change things. Accepting a game's the flaws is your own prerogative, not some ultimatum that everyone needs to follow. It's often the job of game developer's of all different forms to give the most polish to their game, and what is being proposed isn't for the dev team to reinvent the wheel, HMs can still exist, just make it so they're field moves. My suspension of disbelief would accept it, and I'm confident others would too. I don't need sweeping dialogue changes or a new system, just a QoL feature that would make it easier to experience what the creator has envisioned

Course, you got Shenron and Salamence (As well as Metagross to a slightly lesser degree). However, While Pokemon like Lopunny and Sableye got very fitting buffs. There are the poor saps that are just bad. The worst off has to be Steelix. I swear Mega Steelix is bad/horribly outclassed in pretty much every battle format there is. His ability sucks, and I don't like its design.
