  2. I've already voiced my dislike for Reborn's story before, but relative to the game, the arcs I've enjoy playing are the Spinel Arc, The Jasper/Beryl arc, and Ametrine. I feel like these arcs have the best pacing and clear plotlines while not overstaying their welcome. There aren't any annoying side protagonists in Jasper/Beryl, and it's the place where I start to usually get permanent team members. Corey is still a stupid character though. As for Ametrine, I like Shelly's friendship with Heather, and Heather, a character I didn't like at first, gets some nice development. As for puzzles, I liked Radomus' puzzle (probably the only thing I like about him tbh), Charlotte's is fun too, even if she stole it from Wallace. Corey's puzzle takes like 10 seconds of random button pressing to figure out. Shelly's is sort of trial and error. I know it now, but it's hard to figure out on a first time. @Bok Choi I can drink to that one, pal

I agree that Mega Evolutions should be differentiated from each other simply because of how competitive the Mega team slot can be. RN, the worst example of similar megas is probably Steelix and Aggron, but even then there are typings and abilities to consider.

  5. Some people might just like using Metagross, who just happens to be a potent pokemon already. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with giving some more usable Pokemon Mege Evolutions, its just when they are made ludicrously powerful when they are a problem. Scizor's Mega is fair game IMO, but Shadow Tag Gengar? That's a bit much. If you get enjoyment out of using weaker, under-used pokemon, that's fine. But, its equally okay for people to like using the strong Megas. I get this sentiment. I guess it's the way you worded it/ I perceived. "I want Butterfree to be good" and "I want Butterfree to be OU" are two statements that warrant different reactions. I don't really understand how you misconstrued what I was saying. I implied that I thought that counterplay was integral to Pokemon and creating Megas solely to negate counters is dumb (You see a lot of Fan Megas with this sentiment). My argument about megas (which I probably should have stated before... Whoops) is that The 'mons that get the most bang for their buck are Pokemon like Pinsir, Manectric, and Houndoom. In essence, Pokemon that have potential in their stats. but are held back by lack specialization or hindered by powercreep. They have the innate stats to get the most out of +100 BST boost. Putting Mega Evolution on Delibird isn't going to necessarily make it good. It will just be a bad mega evolution, and baf megas, just like weak base-form pokemon, aren't going to be used over their more powerful competition. Mega Evolution wasn't even created with the idea of balancing weak mons. It was a new mechaninc made to add new forms to popular Pokemon and to shake up the gameplay. There wasn't ever really a direct desire to use it to buff weaker pokemon. I think the problem here is that the Pokemon is not a game that strives for balance, it wants to have variety. Butterfree, at its inception, was created deliberately weaker than other Pokemon do differentiate them. Rare/Legendary Pokemon are made stronger to encourage collecting them. The game simply isn't meant to have widespread Balance. There are a lot of Pokemon I like that won't ever be good competitively (I still love you, Persian) but I can still use them ingame, and that's really what Gamefreak is going for. New regions and Pokemon are made to deepen the world and variety in Pokemon, not to enhance the metagame. Therefore, while I wish pokemon to be good, I don't think it should be expected of Gamefreak to try even out the power between Pokemon. If they want to keep their earlygame bugs weak, that's their prerogative. At the end of the day, Pokemon is famous for the adventure, not for the sprawling metagame.
  6. The thing that I don't like is that Slapping a Mega onto a bad pokemon isn't going to make it good. For example, lets say that Mega Butterfree has a very similar stat spread to M-Beedrill (-30 into Atk, plus 60 and 70 for Sp.atk and Spe respectively. It would be good on paper, but it won't be OU because Pokemon like Volcarona already do its niche better. It would still be subject to hazrds, Priority, and steel types. On top of that, it would compete with every other previous Mega for the slot on the team, and Bug/Psychic isn't really a good type to build around. It would be good if you slapped an ability specifically to stop counterplay on it, but that would be almost as bad as the infamous Sap Sipper Swampert idea. That's what I meant for regarding lore (I should've added prior gameplay too) I think, that if one were set on balancing megas, one should have a role in mind which could feasibly fit into a team. Something like Psychic Terrain Butterfree only serves to make to restrict any potential counters the pokemon has. Pokemon is a game that is almost entirely centered on counter play. Things that are made specifically to stop opposing strategies are unoriginal and are just a slap in the face to other every other mon. Mega Evolution isn't a reliable way to buff a Pokemon. Pokemon like Mawile and Salamence only got lucky in having Good typing + Good moves + Good abilities to complement their mega. Also, Smogon tiers again aren't used to measure how good a Pokemon is for Gamefreak. That's VGC and Battlespot to a lesser extent. Those areas are the reasons why things like Gale Wings, -late abilities, and Dark Void were nerfed. Gengar has been

  8. Let's face it: The Mega Evolution is essentially a popularity contest, which makes sense from a marketing perspective. "New Mewtwo Form", while unnecessary, definitely generates more buzz and speculation. I would say that Almost all of these Pokemon were quite popular before gen 6, with the exceptions being with Banette, Mawile, Pinsir, Abomasnow (I think he was popular in VGC) and maybe Medicham. The ORAS mega evolutions gave weaker Pokemon for Mega Evolutions, Most notably Lopunny, Beedrill, Pidgeot, Sableye and Audino. Even then, those pokemon are still relatively popular either in the games or because of outside media. Besides, Mega Evolution isn't even the best way to Balance trashmons. Audino, Glalie, and Steelix are still trash with or without its mega, and to use its buff, you have to lock yourself out of a Mega-slot for a better mon. A net +100 BST only goes a long way, so pokemon like Sunflora are still going to be terrible unless you do the uninspired broken ability + minmax. It's for this reason, that I dislike most fan-made megas. They only serve to give their favorite pokemon a power-trip without factoring in design, playstyle, or prior lore. To top it all off Pokemon "needing" buffs is incredibly Subjective. I could argue that Lucario and Medicham "needed" their megas as it was becoming increasingly irrelevant to the likes of the Gen 5 fighters, I could argue Metagross "needed" its mega is it became the 2nd worst pseudo. I could argue Garde and Gallade "needed" their megas because they were usually only average choices for their types. Prior to Mega-Evo, Hidden Abilities were the closest thing to a buff, strengthening Pokemon like Venusaur, Alakazam, Espeon, and Blaziken. Those pokemon, while usable, were subject to power creep. Their buffs made them some of the strongeset mons in their respective typings, Blaziken technically needed Speed Boost to stay relevant, but it was still popular and usable in less stringent Online battling. Point is, these shortcommings never stopped people from using their faves . I like Mega Evolution, but I think design comes first for the most part, especially since Mega Evolution was , and still is, a marketing tool to promote the new games. 10. http://www.smogon.com/smog/issue44/ou-to-ubers Here's a Smogon article that explains the reason on the Gen 6 bans. For Mawile's case, it's great bulk combined with its ludicrous Attack basically guaranteed it was going to hurt. Medicham has poor bulk, Can't be safely switched into, Risky Stab, and a lot more counterplay for it to deal with (Faster mons, Ghost types, Talonflame, priority, did I mention Talonflame?). 20. I have to agree with F14m3erz here one the subject. What Reborn gets criticism for isn't its "immoral themes" rather it is the poor direction and execution of those themes. Personally, I think that Reborn is deeply flawed in its overall narrative. In fact, I'm going to "briefly" give my thoughts on some of the cardinal issues with the game's story and characters E.V.I.L Leaders? I hardly know her! Also on the Titania debacle going on, It is implied in most of the mainline Pokemon games that battles result from the trainer's pokemon defending him/her. That's why Titania has to wait until the battle is done to execute her opponents edge-style. Most pokemon are implied to have powers ranging from angry dog to world-ending Nuke, so 9/10 it's probably more efficient to counter the threat of a Pokemon killing you with more Pokemon. That's why Oak doesn't let you into the tall-grass anyway. Those Rattattas are killer, man. Anyways point is that Darmanitan, Ditto, or really any fully evolved Pokemon would be able to make a stand at Titania's Aegislash, and Given that it would be a 6v1 battle stacked against Titania, it would be pretty realistic if the protagonist stopped her. Alas, the PC is a pokemon protagonist, and those chumps have less conscience and initiative than those two lobotomized debaters from earlier (If you even read that). There's more. Oh is there more. I could go on even longer about how flawed some of the individual characters in Reborn are, or how I think that the Mainline game's writing can often be overlooked, but despite it's many flaws, I still have lots of fun with Reborn and I still think its one of the better fangames out there as there is thought and effort put into it, instead of spitballing crap against a wall instead of seeing what sticks. Insurgence. So for now, I'll give it a rest.
  21. To give my two cents on the Rival starter business. I agree that it should probably go case-by-case basis. On the contrary, I don't think it is necessary for Fern to have Serperior (Get it? Contrary? Serperior?... please laugh).Serperior has a powerful, honorable disposition. its dex entries state that it has respect for powerful opponents. Fern is pretty much anything but honorable or regal. He's overconfident, abrasive, and doesn't have respect for anybody. I would think that Sceptile would be a great choice for Fern as 1. Was already on his HC team 2. Has a personality that I personally think fits Fern more compared to Serperior's regal aura 3. Would also fill Fern's mega slot since there are only 3 grass mega-evos (That is, if the mega-evos still reflect their preferential typing). and 4. Sceptile is a lush, jungle-themed Grass-Type, which would make a nice contrast between Florinia's desert/harsh Grass-types. Victoria's Starter choice really doesn't matter all that much anymore with Cal's change in team. She could pick any Fire starter and it would be in character. (though the fighting ones do match her a bit more) I would just think about team-balance when it comes to Victoria's preference. Cain is one who I think is pretty best fit with Primarina, as it matches his character probably the best of all of the rivals. However, I think any of the 'cute' water types would fit him well. I do have one question about the Mystery egg, Will the Pokemon exclusive to the mystery egg be available in other places. I'll be honest, I seldom used the CoM mystery egg pokemon and just switched versions to get the others. It just that there are a lot of good Pokemon exclusive to the mystery eggs that you are locked out of otherwise. Personally I think that it would be a better system to let the exclusives be available outside of the event and the Mystery egg by pokemon populated by late-game pokemon. I definitely look forward to the Public Release, but I do have a question of if there are any missables if I continue from where I ended the Demo (after Julia)? Regardless I will continue to patiently await the official release and remember not to stress yourself.
  22. Ok. First of all. I already know that Aegislash has organinc counters. So does Scizor (Fire type moves, field-boosted STAB,). That does not make his merits any weaker. Second, Mimikyu has to get the predictions right to K.O. Aegislash. Aegislash can take 3 unboosted shadow sneaks. If Mimikyu's sub is broken and is at +2 atk, it either has to predict Aegislash will either attack and Attack with an OHKO move, or it loses its boost to King's Shield Conversely, it could try to predict a King's Shield and get a 2nd Swords Dance or it will get K.O.'ed by Aegislash. Third, Aegislash being a prediction and mind games mon isn't a flaw of his, it is arguably a benefit to be able to put that much pressure on the opposing side and adds a lot of synergy for Aegislash's potential partners. Finally, the only checks to Aegislash are Bulky Ground types and some fast Ghost/Dark types. That is still incredibly centralizing and forces users to allocate resources to their team they may not even need to beat a single pokemon. That is literally the argument that is used against Scizor. I know from experience that the A.I. is easy to capitalize on and that it does not make plays that will shut down any potential sweeps. Aegislash is a pokemon that like Scizor, can come in on a plethora of pokemon, set up Swords Dance, and sweep. Aegislash is not as hard to use as it sounds in this regard: just King's shield when you need defense, tank a hit, and immediately hit back hard. I'm probably done reiterating the argument now because I've addressed what I wanted. I'm not trying to argue that Scizor should be available or that Aegislash should be unavailable. I was only trying to identify a possible hypocrisy in some logic and I apologize for derailing a thread to talk about something rather unrelated to the topic. Your argument would force Leaders to carry more Aegislash counters just to not get annihilated, which is exactly what carrying fire-type moves or steel-resistant pokemon for Scizor would do. I don't think I can elaborate my stance further and I fear the thread possibly being derailed from my bumbling, so I will simply stand by my opinion.
  23. Shadow sneak makes contact and triggers a -2 atk drop. Also, on an unrelated note, Greninja would rather run Dark Pulse over Shadow Sneak. (sorry if that sounds pretentious or condescending). The problem is that Z-moves, coverage, and field effects don't mutually affect Aegislash. In fact they affect every available 'mon in the game. Shadow Sneak isn't that common (It's only viable on about 3-4 'mons including aegislash. Every pokemon can be theoretically countered (except for M-Rayquaza just because). Blaziken can be countered. Garchomp can be countered. Legendaries can be countered. These pokemon, however are still quite centralizing because of their indomitable strength forcing users to carry a check. Like you can really easily shut down Scizor in theory with any fire-type coverage. In reality, however, Scizor can capitalize of the pokemon it walls to set up and sweep. Aegislash does exactly what Scizor can do and be just as formidable. The incompetent AI is something that is easily cheesed because it doesn't make plays like counter-switching or predictions which pokemon that have an Easy-Bake sweep like Blaziken, Scizor, and Aegislash can capitalize on. Getting to +6 is incredibly easy in ingame Pokemon, which is what exaggerates the power of pokemon like scizor in a setting like this. Point is that I agree with the notion that, while I adore Scizor, he could trivialize the game at about any point after he gets his ideal moveset. What I don't agree with is that Pokemon like Aegislash and other mons with easy set-ups are somehow below Scizor in what they can do. I only think that it is a bit rich to call Scizor OP and centralizing when the likes of Aegislash, Mimikyu, and Blaziken can run around with impunity.
  24. Why do I only post essays? This is exactly what I thought. Aegislash is Uber for a reason. This thing is both a tank and a sweeper which at +6 can wreak havoc upon any team. 150 base atk that can be boosted and hold an item is nuts in an ingame environment. STAB Iron Head and Shadow sneak is more than enough coverage for ingame as the combo does neutral damage to any pure type. Aegislash's matchups are also as absurd as scizor's. With literally legendary-tier bulk (It's defenses are literally the same as Registeel's, yet it gets 150 in both offenses) and a whopping 3 immunities and 9 resistances (that's more than Scizor) Aegislash can set up on just about anything. Since King's gets priority, it can almost always Stance Change when needed and get a leftovers recovery if run. Not to mention that Aegislash can debilitate many physical attackers with King's shield debuffs. Don't get me wrong I know that Scizor's bullet punch can make Ed-209 blush, but it's hard to justify his exclusion when literally both non-mega, non-legend pokemon are in the game now. Aegislash is just as good. Besides Hardy the god damn rock gym leader! It's not exactly the best type in terms of versatility and defense. King's shield has +4 priority, nothing will outpace it. That was because there are way more many physical checks competitively to SD aegislash (basically any bulky ground type like Hippowdon, Gliscor, and especially Landorus-T and Primal Groudon) Whereas running it bulky with Toxic + KS + 2 STABS gives it more versatility as a wall and a mixed attacker. It's SD more easily countered in the meta. That isn't really a problem in a ingame because you don't see to many Landos and Primal Groudons running around. Ingame, it's amazing and incredibly self sufficient. #ScizorDidNothingWrong #FreeScizor
