[IC] TotM:DC "Terraria: A fresh start"

Much of the team reacted with open disgust and horror at the appearance of their present enemy: a truly massive eye, trailed by red wavy things that might have been veins, a sea of red to Satomi's vision. But Satomi's only reaction was a quick grimace; although she had never been on the front lines in any of the truly horrible Shadowlands battles back in the Crab Clan lands in Rokugan, that didn't mean she hadn't got a glimpse or two of some of the more disgusting oni. It made sense to her, really -- a land twisted and haunted by terrible blood magics would have twisted and terrible oni to match. They would just have to do their duty and kill it, simple as that.

First, the diminutive samurai whipped her crossbow off of its temporary storage position on her back; with the weapon loaded shortly after leaving the walls of the village, attacking was as simple as taking the weapon into her hands, bringing it up to eye level as she aimed at the gigantic, vaguely blurry oni. Then she squeezed the trigger again, and again, and again, loosing her volley of bolts one after the other. Around this point, she noticed and heard that an apparent ally had arrived, something clearly not human but wearing somewhat familiar garb; if she had questions, though, she would ask them later.

Satomi had been getting very familiar with the movements of drawing and firing her ranged weapons, and this familiarity made her faster, and ensured that she could smoothly transition into another attack. Putting her crossbow back onto her back, Satomi slid her hand to the side and drew the... silver bow from her back, going to grab one of the ignitable arrows from where it was stored on a strap she'd put on her shoulder. Then she used the silver ribbing of the bow to drag the arrow across and set it alight, brought the bow up in a horizontal position, and fired the flaming arrow as best as she could towards the pupil of the gigantic eye -- if it caught in there, the eye would surely have a very poor time of it.

Satomi fires her Perfection Crossbow at the Eye of Cthulhu, dealing the 6d6+DEX (6) damage attack, and then fires off the Silver Bow at the Eye of Cthulhu, with a Flaming Arrow, dealing 3d6+DEX (0, extra turn)+INT (12) fire damage to it!

Spoiler

DaishoA set of two swords (a katana and a shorter wakizashi) carried by absolutely any Samurai at all times, the Daisho is a mark of the Samurai's noble class and honor. 2d6+STR damage, when upgrading the weapon Satomi can choose a different effect for each sword (Katana and Wakizashi) for each level, but must choose only one of these swords to wield in combat at the beginning of each encounter.

Time Sandwich Samurai Armor (Level 2): These rectangular plates of samurai armor (on Satomi's thighs, shoulders, and chest) have been modified, with usage of the metal resulting from the bay explosion making the armor extremely difficult to pierce without sustained effort -- damage only sticks on one of the phases of the timeshifting metal.

Level 1: +3 RES when equipped.

Level 2: +4 further RES when equipped.

Perfection CrossbowA mechanical, spring-powered repeating crossbow that is capable of renocking itself after every shot without having to pull a lever -- at the expense of being ridiculously hard to initially load. It is also incredibly lightweight, but that makes it fragile and exacerbates the reloading issues. This item does not take up a slot, skills which target gear for destruction automatically succeed against this item.

Level 1: Deal 2d6+Dex Damage. The user may instead deal 6d6+Dex Damage, but must spend 3 turns reloading afterwards.

Terrarian Silver BowA bow largely constructed of wood but with silver ribbing in its work, it may not be of Kaiu make, but it sure is an effective bow. Despite its material choice. Somehow. To Satomi's consternation.

3d6+[Dex] damage.

Flaming Arrows (x4): Arrows slathered with an impressively flammable slime substance, they can really light a fire under your damage potential, at least if you know how to apply them well.

Increase bow damage by [Int], damage becomes fire, consumable.

Fend Off: The Kaiu aren't meant to be the ones doing the gruntwork of holding the wall, but sometimes they have to defend it anyway. Satomi harasses her opponent and generally makes attacking difficult for them, lowering their primary attack stat by her DEX for a round. 2 turn cooldown.

Spoiler

Jun boosts their own Dex by 6.

Toshiro slashes at an eye that deftly flies out of the way(29).

Kusuke Doubleshifts Jun.

Jun misses with both of their attacks(5, 12).

Lucille and her pet wait patiently for the death to begin.

The giant eye stares curiously at Jun and Kusuke, like some innocent bystander trying to figure out what they’re doing, it then glances over to Calvera.

Satomi loads her crossbow and fires it at the house sized eye, perhaps unsurprisingly she hits it and deals 22 damage.  The eye doesn’t look “happy” to say the least.

Jun shoots her bow at the Demon eye again(46), finally managing to lead her shot properly and hit the thing for 26 damage, grounding it immediately, a small red heart pops out.

Toshiro misses again and starts to think these eyes are harder to hit than they look.(35)

Several of the villagers start taking on the greater swarm of eyes around the party while a rather grizzly looking man wearing a yellow hard hat throws a small grey object into the air, at the apex of its arc it violently explodes, catching the two Purple Demon Eyes in the blast.

Kusuke Doubleshifts Jun

Jun has finally started to pick up on this “aiming” thing(68), she hits the other Demon eye for 28 damage and grounds it too.

The two Purple Demon Eyes slam into Kusuke and Calvera dealing 8 and 6 damage respectively.

Alyssa attempts to depress the massive eye and only partially succeeds, dealing 14 damage.

Lucille and Brachus manage to full heal both Kusuke and Calvera.

The Guide ducks into the fight and fires a flaming arrow at one of the Purple Demon Eyes, it never makes it to its target.

Leo uses Dust Gale consuming the Guide’s arrow and dealing 8 damage to each of the Servants and 0 damage to the EoC.

Frostbrute sends a stream of Icefire at the massive eye, dealing 0 damage and catching it on Icefire.  This is a good idea.

The two Demon Eyes are too busy being dead to attack.

Maybe Jun isn’t actually getting the hang of this(20), as she misses one of the near blind Cataract Demon Eyes.

Toshiro finally manages to catch one of the Purple Demon Eyes(56), skewering it on his blade for 15+1 damage and killing it, a small red heart pops out.

Kusuke Doubleshifts Jun again.

Jun attacks the Cataract Demon Eye again, and(91) manages to hit it to deal 28 damage, slowing it down but not killing it.

The pupil of the massive eye tore open slightly allowing four more of the smallest eyes escape from within before closing again.

4 Servants of Cthulhu join the battle.

It takes 0 damage from the Icefire.

Satomi takes an arrow out, lights it, and sends it flying towards the EoC.  The arrow only hits for 17 damage as the fire is sucked out of it before the impact, bolstering the Icefire.

Arminius gives Fingers 5 Str for two turns.

The Arms-dealer sees Toshiro fighting with nothing but two blades and tosses him a gun.  "Use this, it'll make things easier."

Spoiler

Boomstick: Double barreled fury.

Deal 3d6+[Dex] damage divided evenly among at least two targets or as many as five targets.

The first group of small eyes bombards Calvera biting and gnawing for a total of 13 damage.

The second group of small eyes swarms Satomi dealing 14 damage by managing to avoid most of her armor.

Fingers bashes one of the wounded Servants into the dirt.

Kusuke Recalls Satomi, returning her to before the swarm of eyes struck.

Calvera sends out a wave of fire and heat, incinerating four of the smaller eyes before her flames made contact with the massive eye.  A bright flash, a rushing sound like gas explosion, followed by a rush of cold air.  When Calvera looked up she saw a mass of blueish flame crawling over the massive eye and spreading out to many of the outlying members of the eye swam.

EoC gains two stacks of Icefire, Cataract Demon Eyes A & B gain one stack each, and all newly entering Demon Eyes gain one stack.

The Cataract Demon Eyes attack Kusuke and Jun for 6 and 11 damage respectively.

They take 0 and 4 damage from the Icefire.

(14 vs 8)(12 vs 18) Jun manages to avoid the Icefire, but Kusuke is caught alight.

One Demon Eye joins the fight, it burns with blue flame.

"Well this makes things a bit awkward..." Toshiro mutters to himself as almost all the enemies around him are ablaze in chilling blue flames. I guess he'll just have to power through the flames, or maybe he could just stand back and do nothing as the rest of the group deals with them. The latter option becoming more and more appealing as he stared more and more at it. Then he saw a boomstick being tossed to him and he sheathed one of his blades to grab the gun.

Toshiro swaps his Iron Knife for the Boomstick

He turned back to the arms dealer,  "Thanks, this will help out immensely. Now lets see what this baby can do!" With that he dashed forward at great speed and began firing off rounds all at the floating eyes.

Move 1 (Free Action): Toshiro uses his Dash Tech to increase his Dex by 1.5 this Round

Move 1: Use the Boomstick on Purple Demon Eye B, Demon Eye C, Cataract Demon Eye A & Cataract Demon Eye B  for 3d6+Dex[13.5] split between them

Move 2: Use the Boomstick on Purple Demon Eye B, Demon Eye C, Cataract Demon Eye A & Cataract Demon Eye B  for 3d6+Dex[13.5] split between them

Move 3: Use the Boomstick on Purple Demon Eye B, Demon Eye C, Cataract Demon Eye A & Cataract Demon Eye B for 3d6+Dex[13.5] split between them

Conditional: If any one of the enemies die, add Servants of Cthulhu(x3) to the target list. If another dies add The Eye of Cthulhu to the target list.

Jun instinctively ducked behind a nearby rock for cover the moment she heard the sound of a massive gas explosion detonating in the air when Calvera threw one of her waves of fire all over the damn sky to try and incinerate some of the demonic eyes floating around the place. And after a few moments had passed the Ambassador would stand up and quietly stare at the bright and fiery aftermath. She wondered exactly what Calvera did differently in this case as she took out her copper bow once more, took out several more arrows, took aim at one of the well outlined demonic eyes, and promptly got tackled down to the ground by a flaming cataract eye before she could fire a single shot.

Jun decided to respond to this new development by doing the obvious thing and rolling away from the aggressive creature that wanted to kill her and set her on fire to try and prevent the strange blue fire from spreading. And after a few moments had passed the ambassador finally decided to stand up and launched a couple of arrows in the flaming cataract eye's general direction to try and scare it off, before she moved on to fire a lot more arrows at the now extremely visible demonic eyes floating around the damn place.

Move 1: Jun attacks Cataract Demon Eye B with her Terraria Copper Bow, dealing 2d6+Dex+3 damage twice and triggering Extra Attack

Move 2: Jun attacks the one remaining Demon eye with her Terraria Copper Bow
Move 3: Jun attacks the remaining Demon eye with her Terraria Copper Bow if it is still alive, otherwise she launches an attack on the Eye of Cthulhu
Move 4: Jun attacks the Eye of Cthulhu with her Terraria Copper bow, potentially dealing an additional 4d4 points of damage on top of the bow's damage if someone has already attacked the Eye of Cthulhu this round

Move 5: Jun attacks the Eye of Cthulhu again

Use three actions to stab the Servants and then recall on self.

Recall: Sets Kusuke's status back to what it was at the start of last turn. Only usable once per turn.

-Level 2: Can target people and objects other than Kusuke.

Doubleshift Another: Use a bit of time travel to allow a person to be in two places at once, granting them an additional action this turn.

(Trick) Blink: The user spends one turn to nullify a wide range of physical status effects such as bind and slow by teleporting out of them or using it to enhance mobility. Out of Encounters, this technique allows for a teleport of up to Int+Syn Feet.
-Trick Level: Blink can now move Kusuke twice as far.

Vigilante Code (Gear): A Magic Formula given to vigilantes by the NOL. It's essentially a set of magical handcuffs with a unique signature. Allows the user to attempt to restrain a target using a DEX check against a stat of the GM's choice during combat, which is doubled if the target is already incapacitated. Restrained targets cannot use actions that require usage of their hands until they can make a check passing the original, non-doubled DEX check.

Martial Arts: Allows Kusuke to deal 1d6+DEX damage without using a weapon, and adds DEX/2 to damage dealt with small weaponry such as knives.

Arbitrarily Large Amount of Sharp Knives (Gear): Deals 1d6+Dex Damage, These knives are sharp enough to defy Low Level RES checks.  Equipment Targeting Attacks must pass a check in order to affect this Gear

Satomi had been charged and rather painfully attacked by the eyes, the soft areas of her body not protected by the armor (such as her stomach) taking a serious thrashing from the monsters... but the fact that Kusuke had very quickly come in and brought her back in time meant that this was but a momentary distraction -- she would have to thank him again, perhaps. By doing something for him? If she had access to a forge, she was sure that she could give those knives of his a bit of an upgrade. Maybe try to make some especially light armor, but she wasn't as confident in that.

Of course, she was in the middle of a battle, and that did deserve her attention. Satomi's eyebrow quirked upwards when she saw the strange blue flame spreading all over the enemy team ... and even to her allies. "Well, our new companion has most certainly complicated things..." the short orange-haired girl muttered, but since her primary target was already aflame, Satomi didn't see any harm in worsening its condition by continuing to use those special gel arrows on it... plus, this would have the obvious benefit of hitting it with two more arrows! Reaching for the arrows, Satomi twirled one off of her shoulder, and promptly sent it flying at the gigantic oni with a twang! Then she followed the act up with a second arrow.

Satomi fires a Flaming Arrow at the Eye of Cthulhu, and then does it again, dealing 3d6+DEX (6)+INT (12) damage twice... without the icefire stealing the flames, anyway!

Lucille practically jumped out of her own skin as something randomly exploded in the skies overhead. She could feel her ears ringing, aching from the sudden burst. But along with the pain came the drop in temperature and pressure in the area, causing her a slight shiver despite the crackling of flames she heard all around them.

    "What even....?"

The dragon landed on her shoulder and huddled close, feeling the chill even worse than she did. With a disdainful flick of his tongue and low hiss, he glared at the fool with the golem who'd spawned this mess. Soon enough she began to understand as the beast filtered it through; whatever this fire was, there was nothing natural about it.

Regardless, there wasn't anyone else who was going to do this job. Getting Brachus focused again, the young beast spewed a small, weak stream of Vitalis Vis, initially focusing it onto her. As the ringing and pain in her ears faded, he then pumped his full might into the breath, turning it on whichever poor fool looked the closest to death.

Moves

I. Lucille will use Restorative Breath on whichever Ally has the lowest health! Brachus will also use Restorative Breath, on the Ally with the second lowest health!

(Restorative Breath restores {1d6+Syn(5)} HP to the target; when used on dragons it restores {2d10+Syn(5)} HP instead.)

II. Lucille will use Restorative Breath on whichever Ally has the lowest health, Again! Brachus will also use Restorative Breath again, on the Ally with the second lowest health!

Binding beasts requires Lucille to spend her action forming a Bond with them, at which point a number of bonds equal to ½ the Beast's Int will be expended, with a minimum requirement of 1. If Lucille doesn't have enough open Bonds available to satisfy this cost, the binding fails. The bonds expended on them will be restored to Lucille upon either the Creature being reduced to zero hp in battle and dying, or by her dismissing them, which may be done at any time as a free action. Bound Beasts have Stats and Actions identical to their normal counterparts, and act simultaneously with Lucille during her turns.]

Actives (2)

Edge of Silence*- The user employs a Thaumic Formula via either an Incantation or Inscription of a Sigil, in order to create a ripple in Animus and thus spawn a wondrous effect into the physical world. Consisting of the Aspects <Sound, Multi-, Blade>, This Formula prompts sonic energy to be produced, which then promptly forms into vorpal blades that slice into a target.
~Current Effects~ [Active. Thaumaturgical Spell. Launches 2 attacks that deal (1d3+Int) sonic damage each, and may both be aimed either at the same, or different targets. These attacks are undodgeable, and ignore Damage Reductions, though Damage Immunities still apply.]

Mimicry- The user reaches out over their bonds and channel's the latent abilities of one of their companions, employing them as their own. While the use of this technique can lead to altered physical traits to better accommodate the abilities channeled, it is incapable of drastically transforming the body. [The user may 'Mimic' either a passive or active ability from one of their bound beasts, as well as whether they will use their beast relevant stats for the purpose of the ability, or their own. Said ability will overwrite this action until either the encounter ends, the beast in question dies, or the user chooses to stop mimicking them, at which point this Skill will return to its basic form. Voluntarily ceasing to mimic a copied ability can be done as a free action. Abilities which would require the user to drastically alter their body to use effectively, such as growing wings, extra arms, etc. cannot be copied.] ((Currently Mimicked Ability: Restorative Breath))

Leo takes a step back from the sudden blast, looking up at the roaring blue flame as it flares outwards and consumes the swarm. That girl was packing serious heat, and with the ice fire now washed over the entire swarm they should start falling quickly. however, it seems the eyes preferred attacking with there bodies, rather than with any sort of ranged attack. This was a problem. The current temperature would stop the flames from spreading over land and buildings, but not from consuming a warm body.

"They eye's are using melee attacks. we have friendly fire"

"I can see that! Frostbrute, keep the flames off them!"

Leo picks up some rocks and tosses them into the air as he uses Dust gale again. Crushing them and sending an abrasive storm of dust up at the swarm.

Frostbrute meanwhile holds a hand out towards kusuke as if aiming its flamethrowers. Internal systems flare to life as ambient magic is forced into them by the core. Kusuke would probably feel a deep cold in the air around him and just on the surface of his body, you know if he weren't already feeling that from the ice fire. While also feeling a bit warmer inside, before the fire vanishes and frostbrute allows his temperature to return to normal.

----------------------------------------------------------

Leo uses Dust Gale (Alternate casted blizzard wind, with thuam>copper. One mana activation fee. The damage is 1d6 to four enemies, and an additional 1d6 to targets sensitive to dust.) Targeting the EOC and the Three Healthiest looking eyes.

Leo's Night vision is still active

Machine synergy is still active

The arm mounted golem computer is still active.

Reminder in case it becomes relevant, Snow has a scanner that can detect things like energy signatures and stuff.

Frostbrute uses extinguish ice fire on kusuke, purging the ice fire debuff from him.

Jun shouted out the words "Can anyone here put out the fire covering the giant eye before it spreads it to everyone in the group?" as she continued to quickly aim and fire her arrows at the house sized and not very fast moving target.

Move 1: Jun uses her Terraria Copper Bow to attack the Transformed Eye of Cthulhu, dealing 2d6+Dex+3 damage, and firing off another attack using her Extra Attack trick passive to deal 2d6+Dex+3+4d4 damage after triggering Ambush Hunter.

Move 2-5: Jun uses her Terraria Copper Bow to attack  the Transformed Eye of Cthulhu until she runs out of moves.

Conditional: If Jun's health goes below 10, then Jun will use a Red Heart as a free action that is part of her next move.

Toshiro stayed silent, he didn't have any means of dousing the flame nor could he rely on his blades while the eye was ablaze. Thus the only course of action was obvious, USE THE BOOMSTICK!

Moves 1-3: Use the Boomstick on The Eye of Cthulhu dealing 3d6+Dex[9]

Conditional: Due to the Boomstick requiring at least two targets as soon as another enemy joins the battle add them to the target list.

I. Lucille will Exit the Sanctuary! Brachus will stay inside of the sanctuary, and use Restorative Breath on the Ally with the lowest health!

(Exiting the protection of the sanctuary makes the unit susceptible to hostile actions again, but also allows them to make hostile actions again. Restorative Breath restores {1d6+Syn(5)} HP to the target; when used on dragons it restores {2d10+Syn(5)} HP instead.)

II. Lucille casts Edge of Silence against the Eye of Cthulhu! Brachus will use Restorative Breath on the Ally with the lowest health, again!

Relevant Perks

The 3rd Instance: [When Lucille casts a thaumaturgical Spell/Ritual, the numerical effects of said spell/ritual are boosted by 1.3x]

Beast Heart: [Lucille has a number of "Bonds" equal to her Essence*2. These "Bonds" can be expended to bind living, non-sapient beasts/monsters and turn them into companions under her control. Bound Beasts who are dismissed will never turn hostile towards Lucille or her companions unless attacked after the fact.

The eye split open and revealed a gigantic maw of humongous, horrible teeth. This was simultaneously a good sign and a bad one -- on one hand, it was a pretty clear indication that they were driving this thing to reveal whatever abilities it had hidden, but on the other hand it also meant that they had to deal with whatever those abilities were, and Satomi didn't like the idea of getting trapped in those teeth, for example. Still, since at least they'd killed the smaller monsters around it, that meant that all they had to do for now was to focus on killing the damned thing.

And with the fantastic success she'd had with this (silver...) bow so far, Satomi figured that she could help. Now, given the debacle the blue fire had become, and given that she wanted to conserve some of her ordnance, here, Satomi wasn't going to use either of those two remaining gel arrows. Still, perhaps she wouldn't need them... pulling a normal arrow out of a pouch by her side, Satomi attempted to send it flying straight towards the Eye of Cthulhu, and then fired another couple of arrows more quickly but not aimed to try to actually hit it... instead, the wildly-fired arrows were aimed just below it, to inhibit its movement and ability to attack.

Satomi fires the Silver Bow at the Eye of Cthulhu, dealing 3d6+DEX (6) damage, and then uses Fend Off on it, lowering its primary attacking stat by DEX (6)!

Flaming Arrows (x2): Arrows slathered with an impressively flammable slime substance, they can really light a fire under your damage potential, at least if you know how to apply them well.

Shortly after the battle's end, once all of the lesser eyes had been dealt with the Guide approached the party again.

"Thank you adventurers, for helping here tonight.  It's been a long night and I'm sure you're all exhausted, so feel free to return to the tavern and get some rest.  However, if you need anything or have questions I can answer, myself and several of the others will be up for a while longer working on clean up."

A few villagers can be seen pushing the corpses of the lesser eyes into various piles and transporting them outside town on a wagon.
