So, not sure whether Silef's big signature should be split among one or two skills (attacking/creating objects vs the whole package), or whether it should be toggled or active. (Basically, it's going into a sort of mode that allows her to wield light, and doing so takes lots of energy. I could also do both depending on the answer to the previous question, with one being used tactically and the other one being a "do or die" sort of thing. Also, is it alright if Silef's a noble? I know that sort of thing is typically discouraged, but with this setting and her background it doesn't confer any special advantage other than the bloodline powers, which is a basic class feature anyway.

Name: Vayne, the Traitorous Hero

Archetype: Ranger

Race: Human

Age: 22

Appearance: Vayne stands at an average height, if a little on the short side, at 5'6". He has a taught body, though he is not bulky and muscular. His untamed brown hair is sticks up, long in the front, yet not reaching below his ears in back. Vayne is most well-known for his shockingly golden eyes and his dark green hooded cloak, which he wears at all times. Vayne carries a longsword as his primary weapon and wears a longbow across his back. He chooses to wear minimal armor so as not to obstruct his movement, wearing only a metal-plated leather chestguard, leather gloves, and boots.

Personality: Vayne may not possess the sort of intellect found in a library or a school, but he is an intelligent and clever man nonetheless. He is a quiet individual, often found dwelling in his own thoughts off in a quiet corner. He prefers solitude to friendship and nature to people, his only constant companion being his raven, Krov. Despite this solitude, Vayne is not cold when dealing with others. He is matter-of-fact with people, preferring to skip any formalities and niceties to get right to the matter at hand. Vayne is a very patient person and is not easily angered.

Signature Moves/Spells/Skills:

  • Animal Companion (Raven) - Ranger
  • The Shifting Forest - Vayne has a mastery of the forest that only the best of wizards could equal. He can communicate with the plants and they will respond in kind, such as entangling a foe or shifting their positions.
  • One with Nature (Toggle) - Vayne lived the majority of his life in the woods, surviving only by his own wit and experience. He came to understand the ways of the forest, and over time he learned to recognize even the most obscure of nature's patterns, such as leaves blowing with the wind. Combined with his mastery over plant matter, Vayne can easily blend in with the forest, surpassing even the best of camouflage, becoming practically undetectable if he so desires. However, this extreme level of attention to detail takes intense concentration and effort to maintain for extended periods of time.
  • Flurry Focus (Toggle) - Vayne sharpens his focus to a level beyond the capability of most humanoids, improving both his reflexes and attack speed. He is able to dodge most attacks during the period that the ability is active and attacks with greatly improved speed. This level of focus and reactions is taxing on the body, and physically exhausts Vayne for a time after using it.

Background:

Vayne was born during time of great war. His mother died shortly after his birth, due to complications, and his father, a military man, died shortly after in a battle. He was then adopted by a friend of his father's, a human druid who lived alone in the forests. Vayne showed an interest in the druid's nature magic as a young child, and the druid passed on what little he still could in his old age. He proved to be a quick study, learning the magic nearly as quickly as the druid could teach it.

When Vayne was 16, the druid passed away. Vayne was saddened by the loss, but continued his life in the forest, now alone, except for the raven he had rescued the year earlier, having found it injured by some sort of animal. They established a bond and became inseparable, their link only strengthening over the years that followed. Vayne watched the forest closely over the years, learning to recognize its patterns and tendencies. He spent his days reading into the movement of the forest deeper than any other had before him, learning to see patterns that few others could. He taught himself to move along with these patterns, becoming indistinguishable from its undergrowth.

At age 20, Vayne was discovered by a military scout during a training session. After seeing what Vayne was capable of, the scout returned to his commanding officer, who offered to meet Vayne in the city, in order to discuss a possible career in the millitary. They were entering war, and could use any talent they could get. Vayne agreed to meet with him, and entered the city for the first time in 4 years. It was here that he would meet Lyra, the girl of his dreams. She was working in the barracks as a medic, due to her healing capabilities. He shared a glance with her on his way to meet with the officer, but even then, he knew what he felt for her. He agreed to join the military, if only so he could visit her more and see her. He talked to her more and more as time passed and his reputation in the military grew. He eventually became known as the Phantom of the Forest by his peers, as he would slay enemies who entered the forest before they even knew he was there. He was becoming known as the hero of the city; none of his allies would fall in a skirmish where he was present. As his kill count increased, Vayne withdrew more and more from society. He became quiet and emotionless around others, Lyra being the only exception. He opened up to her, and she did the same to him. She would constantly show him the sites of the city, and he longed to show her the beauty of the forest. Eventually, he got the chance. He took her to the forests and showed her all the places he would visit during his childhood. As the sun fell, catastrophe dawned. Vayne had overextended himself into the forest, overconfident in his skills. They were in enemy territory, and they were surrounded. The two of them were taken to the enemy barracks, Vayne's reputation being all that kept them alive. The enemy army could see his attachment to Lyra, and they used her as a bargaining chip. Vayne would lead them into the city and fight for them, or she would die.

It was then that everything fell apart. Vayne led the opposing army through the underground passageways, taking them to the heart of his home city. He stood alongside the enemy ranks as he slaughtered his previous allies, all to save the one person he cared about most. He stood on the city's walls and watched it burn as the general rode in with Lyra behind him, her hands tied. The general looked up at the walls and grinned, and Vayne realized what was happening. He rushed down the walls as Lyra looked up at him, giving him a final smile before the general's sword ended her, his goal accomplished. Vayne reached the ground, his emotions rising in a battle for the first time in years as he charged towards the general. Arrows pierced his chest as he approached, but he fought on. He was meters away from the general when he finally fell, his mind blank. The emotions faded away as he died, and all he could think of was his greatest mistake and what it had cost him.

((I feel like this is the most cliche thing I've ever written, and it was kind of rushed, but I think it gets the point across. Also, I know Vayne is a little younger than you recommended, but I kind of intended that to be one of his defining traits. Just let me know if anything should be changed and I'll oblige.))

Pretty interesting RP, I'll see if I have the time to enter this after a pretty long while of being away from these forums.

Is it possible for warriors to utilize one-handed swords without a shield, though? It's either two-handed stuff or one-handed with a shield. I could be wrong.

Yeah, if you really want to. It has no advantages as far as I can tell but hey, there's nothing to be read specifically stopping you as far as I can tell.

Well, here's my character. It's kinda long, but I hope it'll suffice.

Name: Debronee

Archetype: Warrior

Race: Half-Elf (Gray Elf)

Age: 25

Appearance: Debronee is a man of above average height, sitting at 6'1''. You wouldn't call him muscular, but he has a fit and properly body honed through countless battles. Debronee commonly hides his face with a spiky mask that only reveals a violet right eye, but otherwise is akin to the commonly appearance of gray Elves -- pointed ears and pale, silvery hair. His heritage isn't as pure as other elves, given the golden touch on his hair and less pointed ears is a result of his mother's human heritage. He wears fully black cloth-made attire, with black, light plated armor on his shins, elbows, and chest, leaving part of his arms bare.

Personality: Solemn and taciturn, Debronee is a man of few words. Intellectual and sharp-minded, he is exceedingly smart akin to most Gray Elves. Debronee is said to have "thrown away his emotions when his master had deceased", realizing the true and inevitable occurrences and meaning of strife and death. Due to his skills, he can come across as overconfident, although he is careful and untrusting. Despite this, Debronee is ultimately a being of retribution, an avenger with a bitter desire to punish those who had murdered his parents and his adoptive father Donovac -- the Gray Elves of Ka'Gul themselves.

Signature Moves/Spells/Skills:

Signature Style (Passive, One-handed Longsword): Debronee only uses a one-handed sword rather than a sword and a shield. Debronee had inherited the sword -- the acclaimed Ka'Gul Blade -- from his late father, which his caretaker had kept until he was old enough to claim his heritage. Debronee excels in using this blade for swift strikes and attacks, preferring fast, evasive attacking than defending.

Signature Spell: Ka'Gul's Diplomacy [Active]

An adept and defining epitome of speed and agility, Debronee excels in mobile, fast-paced melee fighting. Debronee descends open his target instanteously from a short distance and rapidly strikes multiple times in quick succession. This attack isn't effective against more Armour-built enemies such opposing Warriors or Paladins, but is potent against the frailer ones, such as Wizards, Rogues and Bards.

Signature Spell: Execute [Active]

Having been trained under the the human magics of the sword by Donovac Fartox, the half-elf is capable of summoning a giant sword from above that swiftly smashes all beneath it's wake. Debronee commonly uses this as an execute, hence the name.

Signature Spell: Warpath [Passive/Toggle active]

The descendant to two heirs of veteran swordfighting and the student and adoptive son of one of the finest blade artisans in Graterra in his prime, the blood in Debronee's veins cascades the skill of a seasoned swordsman. Recalling his teachings and battles throughout his life, Debronee improves his skills, attacking and moving faster. Empowering his sword and with his ancient Ka'Gulian heritage, granting potent stealth and speed, Debronee's attacks deal more damage and he can also immediately lunge behind an enemy out of sight provided he is at an adequate distance near the target.

Background:

Debronee was born to the to-be heir of the revered, swordfighting elven clan of Ka'Gul, Darem Ka'Gul. The arrogant, resentful kin of Gray Elves had a raging prejudice and hatred against all else who were different and feeble, especially humans, who they comprehended as insignificant beings unworthy of the blessing of life. They smote all who were weak, thinking that with their bitter acts of cruelty over village after village they marauded, with every drop of blood they spilled and sullied in their wake, would their clan and it's influence strengthen, to which Debronee's grandfather hoped that clan Ka'Gul would dominate Graterra and it's citizens.

Amidst the burning hatred his clan had cursed it's bearers, Darem was a diamond in the rough. Despite being the most skilled of his clan, he questioned the concepts his clan had brought him up with, how fear and hatred were the keys to strength and dominances, how the acts of murder were what defined the purity and directive of Ka'Gul, and above all questioned and pondered on those who were different than him. It was until one fateful day where Darem was mortally injured during an invasion, as he struggled for his life as blood flooded from his gaping wound. As he fainted lifelessly amidst the woods, he awoke to find himself treated and rescued by a human woman called Sarah Farnasus. She claimed to be the future heiress of her clan similar to the Ka'Guls. A being he always harbored curiosity for, she saw all with a loving gaze of compassion.

Darem saw for himself in that his subordinates were wrong in what they saw in all else, and immediately fell in love at the beautiful blonde swordsman that had rescued him from impending death, abandoning his family name to be with her. She too, had fallen for the elven figure despite their thick differences with their time spent together, living in secret with their forbidden union and gave birth to Debronee -- which meant "Keen Blade", his parents hoping that their son would grow to be one of the finest swordsmen in all Graterra.

Their secret would never be kept forever, and eventually, the head of Ka'Gul discovered Darem's treacherous rendezvous and connection to Sarah in a fit of rage. There was no hesitation in his decision to dispose of his own son and the filthy human woman that had tainted him -- not even the mercy for the innocent four-year-old boy that was their son. Debronee had witnessed his parents' demise with his own eyes as a child -- albeit vaguely -- how his own grandfather had dealt the killing blows to Darem and Sarah, the horrifying sight of the blade piercing through their chest, leaking out the tangy sanguine of their bloodlife.

And if it weren't for him -- Debronee would've joined their parents in the endless torment of death.

His name was Donovac Fortax. He was a blacksmith in a village the Ka'Gul clan had destroyed while searching for the family, a man who lived alone amidst the hidden depths of the forest. He had rescued Debronee from the bitter clutches of the Ka'Guls as they drove the young half-elf into a corner. Donovac knew the boy's mother and loved her, and while his Ka'Gulian heritage scared him -- and in that the townspeople would disapprove of a human shielding a half-elf, Debronee had been cradled with the compassion of a human like his father before him. Donovac treated the boy as if he was his own son, showering him with love a child would deserve, and the boy too saw in Donovac the father in which he had lost.

With the time the rusty old blacksmith and the half-elf youth spent together, Donovac had recognized Debronee's special skills with the blade -- as per his heritage of two of the Graterra's most brilliant bladers, the to-be heirs of clan Ka'Gul and clan Farnasus. Knowing that Debronee would grow to be a fighter of greatness, Donovac began training him in the ways of the human swords. Debronee too eventually discovered Donovac's facade, for behind all the smolten iron and clashing sounds of steel his adoptive father was in reality one of the country's most potent fighters, a time in the past whereby which the name Donovac Fartox would make even the sturdiest fighters shudder in fear. Donovac had abandoned his way of the swords for peace and due to this old age, but wanted to give his adopted son the glory he once had. Debronee eventually blossomed into a fighter of great grace and strength, capable of going toe-to-toe to skilled fighters much older than him. Donovac always told him, however -- "You fight for peace, not strength, or power." It was a promise the elder had hoped the boy undertake, hoping that the predatory, cruel instincts inside his Ka'Gul blood would dissipate if they would one day awaken.

Yet hiding was no bliss or protection -- the strings of fate further endangered their life like a game of cat and mouse, as the Ka'Guls finally hunted them down even after the numerous years that had passed and assassinated the elderly blacksmith, before looking for the half-elf. Again Debronee had witnessed the death of someone precious to him -- this time at the age of sixteen. As if fate weren't cruel enough, Donovac was killed during Debronee's birthday, where Debronee had received the Ka'Gul blade his mother had left to him, aware of their imminent demise years ago, as well as the revelation of his identity, the Ka'Guls, and his parents' deaths. But this time, he had within himself the strength to fight back, murdering the band of Ka'Gul bandits that had murdered his master, promising himself that from that day forward there would be no more running or hiding.

With his parents and adoptive guardian murdered, Debronee had lost all emotion and gained mere resentment at the perpetrators of all who sullied the weak. Wandering the world alone, he progressed through his years piercing through soul after soul at the mercy of his inherited blade, and faced all who opposed him with the skill of an unparalleled assassin. What was left behind for his way of the swords was the bitter, irreversible curse of revenge. Debronee now had one purpose -- his scorching desire to destroy the Ka'Guls and his grandfather at the hands of their own heritage.

Pursuing his clan in which he had never seen in his entire life for almost a year, he finally stumbled upon his purpose for revenge. He slit through their throats swiftly with the blade they worshipped, staining his blade and body with their blood, and his own. With a severe slash on his right arm, bloodlife flooding from his gaping wound, he faced his grandfather, the strongest of the clan apart from his father. The man he wanted to kill -- the man who murdered his parents and adoptive father. As they emptied their vocal chords with their battle cries their swords crossed, the clashing sound of steel echoing in the gore of bodies and blood Debronee had created. The battle ended with Debronee as the victor, momentarily relishing the moment he pierced his sword through his grandfather's chest.

With that, he finalized his mission, slaughtering his entire clan with his own hands. Yet he felt no satisfaction of relief, as the pain in his wound continued to grow, and his consciousness growing vague.

Remembering his master's words, he succumbed to his father's morality; Donovac's human morality. Avenge the ones he loved as it may, he had defied his master's will for fighting, and the bloodied corpses beneath him were proof of that. He fought not for peace, but for his own desire for revenge. Guilt began to trail through him as much his blood continued to leak.

Trailing his blood on the ground, he struggled to his master's grave, and planted the Ka'Gul sword beside it. His body grew lethargic and he stood spread-eagled on the ground as the sanguine began to pool. Struggling with his final traces of thoughts amidst his dying breaths, he allowed himself to succumb to the darkness and perhaps go to the place where his parents and Donovac had gone. He wished he could, at least, his final thought was.

This attack deals fire, ice and lightning damage.

After which, Neville's mother and father got separated,His mother (Elena) return to her village of elves located at the mountain regions of Graterras and took the liberty in bearing this child in her womb and decided to keep it, Elena remains sturdy and continues deliver this fatherless infant into the world. Elena gave birth to her firstborn unfortunately she didn't survive the labor and died right after Neville was born. The villagers decided to Neville under the care of an elderly mage living there.
through the years, Growing up was difficult for the young elf without a mother, unlike the children of his age, he isn't found by any means of wealth or materialism, but he craves something different, Neville seeks out of knowledge in witchcraft and spellbooks he could find in their village. From that, Neville magic grew stronger and learns a wide variety of elemental spells from time to time.
altho Neville is blessed with the skill of a skilled mage, his maturity is a much different story. Neville grew up to be troublesome young lad and likes to prank people with his use of magic, he also likes to make up stories and such to fool people in believing him. he always likes cause a ruckus for the sake of his entertainment.
at the age of 25 he met an older paladin at the mountain side of village, who introduced himself as his long-lost father and a younger paladin(Rafael) who tried to killed the both. fortunately for him the older paladin (Crisoff) protected him as he witnessed a murder right in front of his eyes, It was an experience he won't forget as his father explained everything, Crisoff said that was just checking on his other son and that he is wanted man by the cinderknights as he left vague description about his past life and leaves. He returns back to village and tries to tell everyone what happenned, but no one believed him. Neville returns back to the crime scene only to find that the body was gone. He waited for his father to return to him for two years until he decided to wait no more.
The adventuresome wizard decided to go on a quest in search of his father, the villagers couldn't be happier that the troublesome wizard was leaving in his 'delusional quest'. Neville set on foot as he encounter something else along the road; a group of traveling bandits headed for the mountains in search for a village to plunder, They were mean looking and well equip with weapons, not to mention they're many. Neville decided to play the hero once in his life and try stop these bandits before they reach his hometown.
He fought them valiantly as he blast them with elemental spells, but alas the elementalist was outnumbered and overpowered by these goons. in his dying breath, he cast his final spell, a powerful frost nova that sends the bandits into the ice age. freezing their bodies as the cold wind blows, entombing them and trapping their bodies inside an ice pillar.
The threat was prevented, unfortunately this kind of envocation takes a toll on the wizard and with his current condition, he was not able to make it, the elf drops like sack of potatoes on the snow-covered field, thinking "is it worth it? maybe someday i will be reunited with my family, can't wait to tell them about the pranks i've made.. " he smiles as lays peacefully on the snow covered field.
His heroic act never got to his hometown and Neville will always be remembered as the 'the wizard who cry wolf' not for the accidental hero that he is.

So I'm kind of curious why my profile hasn't received feedback yet. Are you okay with it, or just haven't gotten to it?

I am getting to it yet lol. I also trust you as a writer pretty much is why I put it off a bit since I assume I will like what I will eventually see. ((that and muuuuch reading. XD.))

So, I am getting to those that I haven't yet I just got a lot of stuff to look over. Especially since I really like to know people's intent etc behind choosing things which I get by reading all of the backstory etc... and I like to try and understand the essence of a character. ((which helps me to appreciate the abilities etc... and how they stem from that character's being. Cause... in Graterras, even if people aren't thinking about it 100%... the abilities they have are an extension of who that character is. It shows us HOW they fight... and how they choose to work their skills etc... and what they choose to focus on. He personality and backstory fill in the why. With everything else filling in the who, what's etc... so I like to consider everything as a whole. It takes me awhile to look over characters cause of this hope people understand that lol.))

To that end I've personally avoided reading peoples character sheets. Easiest way to not meta game is to not know how.

I'm sure they're all very interesting but I really don't trust myself.

I know I'm going to read all profiles because I'm interested in the character, and the overall ability of the other players.

That said I'm fairly confident in my ability to not meta-game. Either way, to take the possibility out of the window altogether, I figured that was the best approach.

By the way... Starting to add accepted characters to the list etc... if your character isn't there I haven't gotten to it quite yet... no worries lol.

((I am also waiting for those that do not have backgrounds to finish theirs etc before I look them over.))

I won't be adding people to teams yet however, that will be happening in game, so those will remain unfilled until then lol.

I'm just waiting for Neville's paladin stepbrother to finish his backstory..

also, I have a question.. how exactly long is the casting time for wizards to cast big spells? it says 'at least a minute' but I have no idea what that means, how does that even work?

It would entirely depend on the spell. But it takes a great deal of time considering on how powerful it is etc. Basically... You'd you have ask more specifically etc...

Mind if I also ask what Forbidden Love Child means in your profile for your character as well? Cause... what does that mean?

Like summoning a massive blizzard or widespread -insert element here- spell. how long does it take to charge and release it?

as for your question, Neville is an illegitimate offspring. form by a forbidden love affair between two opposites. (a Cinderknight and an Ice witch.)

What is an Ice Witch though? I mean... that concept doesn't really exist. ((you'd have to explain it I suppose. Also, nor do Cinder Knights really have any rules towards love etc... their order really could care less lol.))

Is this still accepting sign-ins? I know of a certain Cinder Knight who fits too bloody well on this kind of story. ;)

(Also: Graterras with a Fate fell to it? 1000/10. Huk, you´re THE guy.)

(Also also: I might have difficulties to post sometimes. Like, maybe once or twice a week in a worst case scenario. Is it ok to get in anyway?)
