  1. I love birdies so much that I'm honestly considering doing a run where I use all bird-like mons. If the list of birdies didn't include mons like Blaziken and Porygon-Z, it'd probably be suicidal.

    1. BreezyPonie

      BreezyPonie

Blaziken is based off of a chicken, which is a type of fowl, so it's fair game IMO. Not sure about Porygon-Z, though.

      Timber Dragon

I thought the Porygon line was pretty bird-like. Even Bulbapedia describes it as looking like a bird, so I consider it fair game too.

  2. Timber approves of the Roxas and Aqua love in this thread.
  3. Golduck is supposed to be more of a kappa, I hear, but Psyduck is kinda platypus-ish. Speaking of Japanese mythological thingies, we should get one of those hopping one-eyed umbrella thingies that people will hate because it's another object Pokemon thingy.
  4. I love birdies. Most anything that's a birdy makes me happy, especially if they're chickens. Torchic and Combusken start out as chickens but then evolve into an eagle-like furry kicky thing that's an awesome battler but disappointingly almost nothing like a chicken. And I'm gonna get roasted for this one, but... something derpy and adorable like Trubbish/Garbodor. iregretnothing
  5. I think the only time the level cap really, truly bugged me is during the long stretch between Shelly and Kiki, but only because it felt like wasted experience. There are a lot of major battles during then, and the experience adds up even when raising multiple Pokemon. I actually prefer the lack of a physical cap. Like the others mentioned, sometimes there's a move or evolution you want that's past the gap. But I also like it because it places the responsibility of managing your levels on yourself. It punishes you for overleveling, and it wouldn't have the same effect if a cap was physically enforced.
  6. I know, but how long had this been going on? Surely the League would've noticed much sooner, whether by regular league inspections on the leaders (why wouldn't they keep in contact?) or by enough trainers complaining they can't battle certain gym leaders. And there's still the matter of how if they weren't able to battle all this time, how they were able to train their Pokemon to be so strong and have such a high rank.
  7. Heather's age in and of itself isn't too unusual in the Pokemon universe considering there's, what, how many 10-15 year olds who've taken down entire crime syndicates, catch legendaries, and become champion. But, unlike other ten-year-old champs, Heather is demonstrated to act her age for the most part -- and that's not someone I'd want to see in such a high position as E4. I used to really dislike her, but she's grown on me a bit after the events in Ametrine. It was actually easier for me to accept her position after she's been shown some self-reflection and maturity, where before it was like she was taking a joy ride on a Salamence and yelling at everyone. Anna and Noel are young too, but Noel is explicitly described as a prodigy, and Anna has some mystical psychic voodoo going on with her. It's more reasonable for them to be more worldly. If anything, what really bugs me is how the orphanage crew (especially Laura and Saphira) managed to have such high positions despite them being locked up in an orphanage for presumably years. Recent episodes try to address this by having a gym in the orphanage, but if Dr. Connal never let them battle, then wouldn't the League address that somehow? Either by telling Connal to fuck off and let them do their jobs, or if he won't cave, then give the gym/E4 positions to someone else? I don't know how long they were locked up in there, but forget keeping their positions, how were they able to raise any Pokemon at all? iir the fire at Charlotte and co.'s home happened when they were fairly young, when Charlotte's Ninetails was still a Vulpix. If Connal kept their Pokemon locked up, how did any of them find the time to train their Pokemon? How can they be so powerful despite their circumstances?
  8. Phew, finally did it. I leveled up my Sylveon to 70, got Donphan to Earthquake Altaria, and finished it off with Sylveon's Moonblast. When Sylveon appeared, Altaria didn't even use Hyper Voice, it used Earthquake. Sylveon probably could've survived a Hyper Voice but oh well, Ciel's down and so's episode 15 and I get to restart my Dark monotype run.
  9. God dammit Ciel. Current anti-Ciel team: Eelektross lv. 72 Scope Lens Levitate Docile -Thunderbolt -Thunder Wave -Crunch -Acid Spray Vanilluxe lv. 64 NeverMeltIce Ice Body Modest -Ice Shard -Ice Beam -Mirror Coat -Acid Armor Walrein lv. 72 No item Thick Fat Modest -Surf -Frost Breath -Dive -Waterfall (She's kind of an HM slave at the moment, but she's otherwise awesome) Donphan lv. 70 Earth Plate Sturdy Hardy -Earthquake -Rollout -Strength -Giga Impact Ampharos lv. 66 No item Static Naughty -Discharge -Power Gem -Thunder -Cotton Guard Crustle lv. 67 (my Stealth Rocker) No item Sturdy Serious -X-Scissor -Smack Down -Stealth Rock -Rock Wrecker Reserve (and underleveled) anti-Ciel teammates: Sylveon No item Pixilate Serious -Swift -Draining Kiss -Moonblast -Curse Arcanine lv. 72 Charcoal Justified Adamant -Heat Wave -Flare Blitz -Close Combat -Crunch Honchcrow lv. 60 BlackGlasses Super Luck Careful -Wing Attack -Night Slash -Brave Bird -Foul Play Drapion lv. 62 Dread Plate Sniper Brave -Night Slash -Cross Poison -Hone Claws -Toxic Spikes Noivern lv. 52 No item Telepathy Relaxed -Air Slash -Dragon Pulse -Boomburst -Roost Druddigon lv. 59 No item Mold Breaker Jolly -Dragon Claw -Night Slash -Rock Climb -Superpower I can handle most of Ciel's team with Walrein or Vanillux sweeping with Ice and/or Water. Eelektross takes care of Togekiss with Thunder Wave + Acid Spray and hopefully makes Ciel use her Hyper Potions. Stealth Rock with Crustle is a crapshoot depending on which of Ciel's team is out and if Crustle gets flinched before rocking. Otherwise I don't have too much trouble with her normal team, although some luck is involved. The real trouble I'm having is with her Altaria. None of my team can outspeed it, and Hyper Voice will OHKO everyone. Donphan can survive with Sturdy, but she'll just faint on Altaria's next attack and she can't reasonably damage it anyway -- she's mainly there to be a tank. I'm considering grinding Sylveon up to a reasonable level due to his Fairy typing and his bulky Sp. Def (Hyper Voice is a special attack). I was also considering using Honchcrow and Noivern to use the field to my advantage, or Noivern and Druddigon for anti-Dragon counters. But Altaria with Hyper Voice utterly destroys my team. No one can survive and no one is outspeeding it. I'm stuck in post-Agate areas so I can't go to the Department Store for any cute items that can help me, nor can I catch any Pokemon in those areas (like a Frosslass + Destiny Bond strategy I saw, but I missed the Dawn Stone). And if you suggest relearning some moves, keep in mind I only have one Heart Scale left and I'd need to mine for more, so I'd like to make it count.
  10. Wow, really Ciel? Really? Sunnuvubitch

      are we talking about HW?

  11. Hmm. Shiny Feebas with decent IVs except 14 Sp.Def and Rash nature. Keep or ditch?

      14 special defence? Ditch.

    4. ShadowStar

      ShadowStar

IVs really don't matter in Reborn from my experience. I would change the Nature when you get the chance, though.

  12. I punched Mewtwo and Terrawr in their stupid faces. Rawr.

  13. Of all the things to come and roadblock me, I did not expect a Mewtwo.

    3. Drymus

All you need to surpass it is Lord Helix. Specifically, Lord Helix with Shell Armour, Shell Smash, and a Quick Claw. And a bunch of Potions, I suppose...

    4. Timber Dragon

      Timber Dragon

Unfortunately I have access to none of those things at the moment, as I'm trapped in post-Agate areas. I might just have to raise a Crustle with Sturdy and hope for the best. Bleh. I don't feel like raising a new mon for one fight. Is Crustle decent?

  14. Is there any reliable post-Agate grinding spots? That clown at the Agate circus is too tough and random to reliably grind against with certain mons.

      Timber Dragon

I already have one but I typically only use it to get lower-level mons up to speed (which I've rarely needed in post-Agate), otherwise it's too slow and I have other mons to grind as well. I'm a bit underleveled and Blake is not playing nice.

    3. BlueMoonIceCream

      BlueMoonIceCream

Fight the crustles you can fight them consistently and hopefully you can ohko them

      Timber Dragon

Oh yeeeeah Crustles! Forgot about those things. Thanks for the tip.

  15. o hay so lets say I do minor EV training and then lower the Pokemon's level with Common Candies, then level it up again. Will its stat gains upon leveling up reflect the new EVs or is it static?

    1. AuthorReborn

      AuthorReborn

The stat changes should happen as EVs are added/subtracted, not on the level up.

    2. Timber Dragon

      Timber Dragon

I did notice my Honchcrow's HP rise when I pumped her full of HP EV goodness, but I thought EVs affected stat gains on level up, not base stats right then and there.

  16. Holy mother of fuck Radomus. He cut this otherwise awesome playthrough to a screeching halt. Hoo boy.

  17. Did Chrysolia Forest's layout change? Because I remember being able to navigate that place like a champ, and now I'm running around in circles.

I think it has, iirc Nickaboo's video on it is outdated now.

Can't tell you about th old layout, but running in circles is actually exactly what you have to do in this one, soo~

  18. The nice Ame voice box in Kiki's gym said to pound Kiki with Psychic-types, but aside from Espurr and Drowzee, what others are there at that point in the game?

      YoshiofRedemption

If I'm correct on when you can get them, there's: Gothitelle, the Meditite you can get from the Academy and evolve into Medicham, Swoobat, Delphox if you picked Fennekin, Musharna if you trade a Bibarel to a guy in Peridot Ward and have a Moon Stone, Chimecho, Grumpig, Jynx if you get and evolve the event Smoochum, Exeggutor if you have Headbutt and caught a Exeggcute, Starmie if you get Staryu from the Mystery Egg event and possibly Claydol, aside from what's already been mention...

  19. Welp, Shade ended my win streak. I guess it's karma since he's a gym leader I usually don't have trouble with.

  20. Y'know, I never understood the hate on Trubbish. That thing is adorable! Even Garbodor is endearing with its derpy face.

  21. For the first time in any of my playthroughs ever, I managed to win every major battle on the first attempt, sometimes sweeping them. That includes Florinia. FLORINIA. Either I just got hax0rs or a few things got nerfed.

    1. Commander

      Commander

Likely a mix of both since Reborn has been appealing to a bigger audience. Also, welcome back?

    2. Shamitako

  22. So in terms of moves upon level up, what generation are we on? I wanna teach a Phanpy Magnitue, but I dunno if I should evolve it and stuff its face with Common Candy back to 19, or progress as normal where it learns it at 30. Also, hi.

Reborn is meant to be using ORAS stuff. If you find it isn't, leave a bug report because it's definitely meant to.

  23. Most of the biggest offenders have already been nailed, I think. There aren't anymore extreme cases to take care of early game. Sucks about Gyarados, Gardevoir, and Magmar, but that's how things go. When I first played Reborn and found Magmar, I had no need for Growlithe or Vulpix or any of the other Fire-types available. I was actually a little disappointed -- there was no point to catching anything else. As for what to replace them with, I honestly don't have many suggestions. There are a lot of potential Pokemon and anything that's not Gyarados or Gardevoir or Magmar is as good as any other replacement. I dunno, I'm pretty content with my Gothita. Still don't completely understand Mr. Mime, though. There are other ways to brute force Julia, for instance (I'll repeat myself: Moxie/Howl Mightyena), and its lower stats in the grand scheme of things means Mr. Mime won't stay for long. It'll be rotated for something better, just as intended. But if it happened to be too strong for that specific point in time, I... guess I'll give it a pass. Okay, Pidgey is obtained early. How did I miss that? Well, I'm out of ideas. I'll just make use of whatever's available.
  24. But what's the line drawn between effort, advantage, and strategy? Where's the line between being strategically cheap (e.g. plowing through Julia with a single Moxie Mightyena) and just being cheap (apparently, Crobat vs Kiki)? It's hard for me to tell the difference. Maybe there isn't a difference, except that one takes more thought and planning than the other. If we move Hariyama for after Florinia, what other Pokemon will get more usage chance? Probably just Mankey for being the only other Fighting-type available at the aside from some of the starters. Sooo... instead of using Hariyama, they'll just use Mankey instead. And then what? When you see players gravitating to Mankey in Hariyama's place, do you axe Mankey because that's what everyone will use? By this line of reasoning, axe or move Kricketune. Its Fury Cutter is strong. Sure, I gained an appreciation for Kricketune's value. Sure, it follows the game's intention of being one of many Pokemon being brought into and leaving rotation. But it makes the fight against Fern and Florinia relatively easier. Hence, it deserves the axe, right? But Ame mentinoned she won't axe it because of its "niche use." At the same time, there's talk of doing the same to Hariyama. So what's the difference? Why move/axe Hariyama and its high attack, but keep Kricketune and its Fury Cutter?
  25. The Pokedex says Farfetch'd were hunted to near extinction for being so delicious, and a few other entries explicitly reference Pokeymanz hunting other Pokeymanz (Pidgeotto's FireRed entry mentions it hunting Exeggcute), so there's that. I like to think that no, Pokemon aren't the only animals in the world. Pikachu is supposed to be a mouse Pokemon -- what's a mouse? Well, 'mouse' could just mean species like Pikachu, Plusle/Minun, Pachirisu, etc. that have a shape that the Pokemon world describes as 'mouse'. But c'mon, if we're injecting some realism into the Pokeymanz world, then a livable ecosystem should include way way way more than just the Pokeymanz themselves. They're probably never shown in the games/anime because including real world creatures might ruin the immersion. But since Pokemon would be one of many creatures in the ecosystem, and many of them have the great potential to be delicious, I'd say anything to do with Krabby and Kingler. So. Much. Crab meat. Bouffalant meat would be great on a burger with feat cheese and caramelized onions (mmm). In fact...
