Yes, Cain is a great character, but the fact of the matter is that other great characters such as Laura and Adrienn, who in their own regards are kind and just overall great people, are overlooked just because they get so little showtime while Cain is thrown into just about every episode. (yes, I know you said left but Laura is here and I said Adrienn since he is another example of what I mean) Not to mention Cain has his own faults, like outright abandoning his own sister. Like, you couldn't just move out and stay being the poison type gym leader? And I find Terra to be not only an extremely annoying sociopath, but an overall terrible person. She WILLINGLY goes along with team Meteor knowing that they will kill anyone who opposes them.

    Uh, I can't say I have any real experience with dating so I'm not sure I can help too much. My best advice though would be to try to not be too overbearing and just be you. I mean, she seems interested in you to start, so that's definitely a sign that things are working. Best of luck to ya buddy, I'm rootin' for ya!
