    Working on a plot for fan-games with people who don't like lengthy text is such a hassle. It's so difficult to describe all the details in a few words. I wonder if anyone can give suggestion...

      I'm not the lead developer. We haven't showed ourselves to public yet. We even haven't figured out the projects' name since we want to wait for the overall story to unfold for the name. What I can say is that the region is inspired by Egypt and probably Peru~ Thanks for the support anyway~

    I have finished E16 with my Grass mono and since my win against Charlotte, the following win is kinda boring. That's what I meant.

    I'll see if I can do Ghost-mono run now that it's possible without hacking any mon. I always play Pokemon with mono-team now and I kinda got bored with my Grass-team ever since it destroyed Charlotte with two tries ^^" Ghost type should be more challenging due to how limited the choice is~

    Porygon and Porygon2 are supposed to be digital duck but get corrupted under the influence of Dubious Disc so perhaps Normal/Bug could work or you could make buggy rotom with Electric/Bug type.

    I am not developing games on my own currently but being a part of gamedev team, my least favorite part is accepting the harsh truth that some key, plot-important features which makes the game unique could not be realized due to scripting complexity. I feel like I want to learn scripting by myself so I could help to make such features real but do not have time to learn scripting from scratch especially since my college study is far-related to programming. It's quite difficult to make unique gameplay without meddling a large amount of scripts so as compensation I try to make the art sides more beautiful. It's important to prioritize gameplay over story when developing games (doesn't mean story is not crucial though), even Reborn does that too, by introducing not-seen before gameplay.

    Another nice written articles, Commander! About not implementing Pokemon when first brainstorming, I think it's only true if the Pokemon is not involved heavily in the plot. For Mystery Dungeon-styled game, Pokemon is always needed though. Also Pokemon is needed to emphasize specific character's signature Pokemon and their interaction. This is even more true for games with talking protagonist and his partner--signature Pokemon. I totally agree with realism and for Pokemon fan-game you have to determine in what universe your game settings is, in the same universe of Gen I-V, in the universe of Gen VI-VII, or in its own parallel universe. If the writer decides to make the game in the same universe as official sources then deep-research about official facts is needed: from the beginning of the universe. If the writer decides to make the region in its own parallel universe, the writer need to point out what's the difference among the universes and why can they be different? It's better if you left hint in-game that the universe you reside in is different than the official universe--not blatantly saying it out loud but through more subtle method depend on the game's focus. This explanation is somewhat needed so keen player can accept if official facts and the law and rules for the game is different since Pokemon game is known to be dependent for each installment until XY come out. Example of independent series are Tales series (although some are dependent) and Final Fantasy series. For example a game which focus is on the cycle of life and death set in different universe could feature and NPC (a crazy street rat) singing, "Aiiiiii........hate this life but don't you get worry.....for I'll be a very rich man.....in my next life. In another time.......in another universe. I just have to wait.....have to wait." Many may not see it but after several attempts to pokemon fan-game story, I realize that GameFreak is great at worldbuilding: They have little facts left for the audience to enjoy and we, the consumers are free to theorize from those little facts--and the more you theorize and try to connect each fact about the history of Pokemon world you will realize how great Game Freak at worldbuilding. Depends on your game, you may need to focus your research on specific areas. All and all, thanks for your article @Commander! Very insightful especially for beginners like me. Looking forward for the next one~

    They are not balanced but the main starters are always not balanced either. However, if you want to balance things out I suggest to make all starters from two-evolutionary line and give them all one fixed egg moves (like some event Pokemon in Reborn). I don't know how you will distribute your starter plot-wise but it'd be even more interesting if you distribute all starter as Shadow Pokemon. The player was asked to pick one Shadow Starter Pokemon ready for purification test. Once purified, this Pokemon will learn "special" moves since purified Shadow Pokemon learn moves not normally they learn. With this you have more possibility to make the weaker starter a chance by giving them interesting moves. I think that would make your starters more "special" or at least worth to pick over main starter. If you are interested with the latter, I will find for you what Pokemon and moves combo for each type.

    So, for Ep. 17 I'm going to restart with Ghost-mono for my permanent team. I don't want to hack in any Pokemon for earlier part of the game though. Is it possible to solo Florinia with Dartrix? (move Drifloon or something before Obsidia Tangrowth, please, pfft)

      If you overlevel a ton and get lucky...

      I don't wanna be a downer, but I honestly don't see any "proper" way to do this, at least presuming there isn't gonna be some change in what items or options for breeding are available.

      Flying STAB should do well against most of her team, but Cradily will definitely be a wall. Ferroseed might be trouble too, but Cradily has Smack Down to hit your weakness.

      Dartrix lacks any options for boosting via levelup and the Pokémon neccessary for breeding Curse or Ominous Wind on it aren't available at that point. X-Items aren't available to be bought either, but depending on which ones can be found lying around you might be able to get some mileage out of those. If push comes to shove you might be able to extreme PP-stall Cradily with a shitton of Super Potions...

       

      That is all asuming you would go into the battle with just one Dartrix. You could always just breed a female one with some other bird and then charge Florinia with your bird army. They do all evolve into Ghosts! Although Cradily might still be an issue even then...

       

      You could also hope for Oricorio to be available before Florinia.

      I'd be interested to play a game with lodging. Are there cafes and restaurants too? It's quite cool that you're planning to implement such a nice feature.

    @foznkr For futuristic reference, try to mimic Transformers characters. Perhaps, make Golurk looks like Optimus Prime? Also I'd like to claim zorua line but since it's already taken I'll take Trubbish-line instead.

    Like @mde2001 said, Ame has the basic of making a pokemon fan game and some spriting. AtomicReactor also has basic tutorials on Youtube. Same with LukaSJ. Essentials has many resources that you can customize yourself and I heard Rejuvenation resources is for public use. For starter, I suggest going for Gen III style graphics like in default Essentials but for custom styles, deviantArt is the place to go. For spriting, GraphicsGale is recommended software because it has multiple layers and also free. I myself prefer Photoshop because it is more flexible in general but it's very expensive so I don't recommend it. For starter, I suggest to make a small complete games first for the sole of learning given you only plan to make your game for several months. If you want your game to be epic and as complex as Reborn, Rejuvenation, and Desolation, you have to prepare years of dedication.
