Well, in-game, only Bugsy and Heather are already nicknamed by the time you meet Shelly. She doesn't believe that she has any friends besides Heather at that point, after all. The other Pokémon in her team only gain their nicknames later in the game, after Shelly gets caught up in the affairs at the orphanage and befriends the other characters. Naming Illumise after the player character would, as Sheep pointed out, have been difficult to pull off, but it'd be a believable decision on her part. If you're writing a setting where Shelly is introduced before meeting the orphans & company, it would be more believable if she nicknamed her Pokémon as time goes on, rather than having them all named from the start. If your story has her meet all the other characters before the protagonist/whoever, then it might make sense for Illumise to be named after someone else.

Okay, but I can't be the only one who had the experience of playing a canon game and being confused for a moment when there's no field effects? I recently played AS and had a huge moment of "wait what" when I didn't get that Fire boost while on grass. Apparently I got so used to the field effects that I'm instinctively trying to use them even when they're not even in the game, oops.I like them because they're really useful to me. Where would I have been during the Serra battle without Mirror Shot? You may not always be able to predict every attack that can get a boost, but it always makes some sort of sense, so you can usually guess what kind of things will happen. I rarely look up things on the field guide and so far it's always been easy to figure out how things work. Though to be fair, the Rainbow Field got the best of me. That one's just magical.

I have some silly stuff in my custom events, like a tribute having a "meaningful" conversation with a bird, and someone outfitting two other tributes with flower crowns. But those are more based on a skype chat I'm in, so I'm not sure if they're fitting. Not that I wasn't amused having Taka and Terra talking to birds or imagining Titania outfitting Fern and Anna with flower crowns...
