Honestly, I'd just recommend in general to try and complete as many sidequests as you can. Just go through the game location for location, talk to everyone. (Or check out forum guides if you don't want to do it blind.) You can get some pretty great items and mons out of it, and you'll never know when even the most niche moves or held items can come into handy.
