Strategy is logic, and acting on sentiment is the exact opposite. I'll begin this response with a suggestion to calm down. I believe you are being a bit too defensive and thus make accusations that lack concrete basis. If you are going to accuse someone of hypocricy, better have a good claim to back it up. You assumed my position on the Bug/Ghost situation by describing the opposite of what I suggested. In the end the Bug type fans massacred Ghost. Yet, the strategic example I mention is merely illustrating a possible thought process behind voting. Once again, there are levels of strategy and I went into deep lengths to make sure my point got across. Zero need to target the strawman. I don't have to do anything. The discussion upon morality stresses the point about priorities. Take that as the main focus when you read my response. Hopefully that will clear anything and everything that can be misinterpreted. It doesn't serve to set the rules of moral actions in a forum game. The only sentence you could isolate and drag to illustrate such an implication, is the one I mention "removing the fun out of the game", yet that alone is not enough to make a direct accusation. I did not have evidence of your own participation in this, and frankly I don't care who and how many are involved. If you'd read my comment above, you would have seen that in this game, outside negotiation and co-operation hardly has a solid impact on the course of the game. Trying to overexaggerate my point will not improve yours. In no part of my analysis do I even imply coercion. However, at the same time, I pinpoint the -common- excuse that "everything that's not directly forbidden is allowed" as a ridiculous argument to support an opinion. Following the same thought process, revealing who is included in this, is also allowed by the rules, but for you (or anyone else participating) it would seem like a dick move, as you wouldn't enjoy that being known. This extreme counter measure serves to show how the tables can turn, and quite frankly, being painted as a "cheater" leaves a more long-lasting impression. The suggestion is supposed to shock you, to show how things can deteriorate fast. So, it is a strategic way of playing H&H (as there are others), and I have been around long enough to say it's not the worst I've seen (search for "Bageling" to find out more). If the underlined part is targeted at me, I can afford to be straightforward and deny it. I wouldn't resort to such a way of playing in this game, since I don't find any point in it (see previous post for further explanation). In other types of games, I would become disinterested if it went into the very notion of the game. I shouldn't delve into this any further. I believe it's pretty clear what both positions are. Here you are attacking the strawman. I did nothing of sorts. The reason I even bothered to voice my opinion was a continuous debate on the topic, centered around semantics, hardly addressing the issue. The game allows it, and multiple parties decided to exploit that. It removes the fun from it, ultimately leading to a two-sides system in which the other participants are deemed insignificant. You could argue that's an inherent problem of the game, yet that's a discussion for another time. The point is that I was not pointing fingers specifically at you or Alistair (as your names were included due to your personal debate) but to illustrate how the voting procedure switched from a free-for-all to a team-sport in which 3rd choices no longer matter. If those tactics are "underhanded" that's up to each individual to decide on their own. Being competitive has nothing to do with it. One could even make a chart with ""Lawful Good to Chaotic Evil"", describing all possible attitudes for the game/race, call it as you see fit. I've explained why it can be seen as one of those. There's no point in getting into a circular argument in which one side is accusing another for the implementation of the same practices in their voting patterns. After all, that's beside the point. If something is wrong, it's wrong for everybody. Period. Remaining salty after your first response is not really what I expected. Wait for a response there, mate. It is clear you took my points the wrong way, and frankly quite personally. If you believe your playstyle was specifically targeted as immoral, you might want to re-read after relieving some of that evident frustration.

@dragonsbeat your vote was Ice: 2 Bug: 5 Poison: 6 Let's go with that from now on.

@Alistair @Jess I mention you two, as representatives of the opposing sides in this debate. Yet, this response is not directed to you two only. A few introductory notes, if I may: Hurting a type because its supporters hurt yours, is perfectly fine as a logic. A bit petty, but still justifiable. That's the way the majority votes, at least once. If nothing else, it can be exploited by the opponent, because of how predictable a response it can be. Grouping together to attack or support a type is not a bad way to play per se. If nothing else, it's a common way to play because it allows co-operation. Working towards your personal goal is the main focus of every game. Naturally, that needs a neural process, as does breathing. Playing without strategy differs from a braindead approach to a game. A strategy needs to have (except from a goal) a plan, a means, and an opponent. If nothing else, these types of games resemble more of a race than a game, since every candidate is running for themselves, gathering support. The only thing that differentiates it from a normal race is the extra ability to hurt the other candidates. Now that I've covered the "opponent" part, I'm returning to the "plan". Any thought process has a processing part and a decision. Does that make it a strategy? Certainly not. In order for a decision to be considered a "strategic move", it must be achieving something on its own, setting the basis for or promoting a goal, and taking the opponent into consideration both in what their moves are and what their thought process is. Supporting a type you like is not considered a strategic move (to win a game) any more than drinking water is a strategic move (to stay alive). Let me present a few examples to make that wall of text into a... concrete statement (ba dum tss) > Vote on a type you like (Ice), while downvoting types randomly or those you don't like (Not Strategy) > Downvote a popular type and upvote a type you want dead, in order to make the former's supporters downvote out of pettiness the type you supported (Strategy) > Same votes, same types everytime, to ensure a constant decrease in numbers for the one you dislike (Strategy) > Seeing what others vote and try to indirectly get them to avoid downvoting your type, by upvoting their favorite at least once (Strategy) > Seeing your favorite type died, and move onto the next favorite one / Seeing your least fav died, moving onto the next one (Not Strategy) > Downvoting types you dislike by alternating among them (Not Strategy) > Alternating your votes to keep the types at an equilibrium or keep certain fan favs at check (Strategy) > Voting in favor of Flying (Staraptor) When these tactics include "metagaming", it becomes petty. Then again, nothing forbids this. However, the problem arises when some regard the absence of rules as a moral excuse to do anything. This is not limited to this H&H or H&H in particular. It shows one needs the rules in order not to take the fun out of what everyone else is doing. Here, it does not matter, since the "gameplay" is enough to limit such schemes, just because this type of co-operation could appear on its own, since the original goals of the team members were the same all along. In the case of a more serious vote, or a game that's based on communication (see Mafia games), such tactics go against the very purpose of the game/sport/important decision. You can still follow the same train of thought and apply them everywhere, and most probably get away with it (since they are forum based), but a forum community just wanting to have fun will not go to the lengths of using bots to check if every interaction was not going against the notion of the game. Furthermore, this is also a declaration of priorities. Up till now (and that's mainly a suggestion for @Alistair) if you knew some backstage planning was going on, they were relying on you not announcing it. Next time, make sure you present what's happening with names and all. That's still technically allowed by the rules. The people indulging in this are obviously more concerned about winning a trivial type preference game than letting people know about this type of behavior, so you'll be even making them a favor.

Ok there's much more to it than I thought. I'll search for an online community or sth, since I'll have a hard time finding the board game here.

Copying Dive's list. Grass: 7 Ice: 6 Bug: 10 Poison: 8 Bug has had a lot of people upvoting it, providing an early advantage. The rest were insignificant so some stayed, others perished. The ones we cared about weren't popular enough, and funny as it is, they got the short end of the stick just because someone started supporting them.
-
@Azeria @Jess I even refreshed the page to check if I missed any votes, and that one was never shown. Weird.
-
Grass: 5 Steel: 3 Ice: 11 Ghost: 12 Bug: 13 Poison: 13 I second that. You could not appreciate Ground. At least Ghost will prevail. Let's see which dies first now. Grass or Steel

Bug has an unfair advantage. For the sake of healthy competition, I propose we all bring it down to the same level as others. Also... @walpurgis you still have time to fix that typo you made up there.
-
@Dragoknight It's not something specific. Naming them takes time, because I force myself to give them a personality. Thus, partially the name comes from a reference to the real world or other means of entertainment, and partially from their actual abilities in the game (typing, moves, design etc). To illustrate two examples: 1. Schierke, the Delphox, gets her name from the witch in Berzerk (manga) who is a young apprentice witch specializing in the Fire element. I always thought the name signified more cunning than that protagonist shows, so it felt better to describe a Delphox as it matured from an innocent fennek fox to a powerful warlock. 2. Nimzowitch, the Aggron, comes from the chess grandmaster... Aron (yep) Nimzowitch, who was well known for his... solid (yep) positional playstyle. I guess having rock type moves get random boosts in the chess field was a really nice bonus from Reborn. It's the best nickname for an Aggron and all others are objectively wrong

Reborn Mafia AMA Gauntlet
NickCrash replied to Daniel Blackworth's topic in Reborn Mafia Club's General Mafia
This is going to be fun. 1) If you couldn't be convicted of any type of crime, what criminal charge would you be immune to? 2) What animal would be cutest if scaled down to the size of a cat? (you did want to be reincarnated as one; I'm providing an alternative) 3) Did you have a favorite teacher? What did they teach and why did their teaching leave you an impression? 4) What's something you really resent paying for? 5) What's something people don't worry about, but really should? -
Grass: 8 Steel: 10 Ground: 9 Ice: 15 Ghost: 16 Bug: 22 Poison: 12 This is an uphill battle. It will probably end badly, but it's worth a shot. @Jericho I require assistance. edit: No.2 is Ghost and No.3 is Ice. The rest should be eliminated first.

Such pokemon will probably reach B or low A status due to their late implementation into the game. I would argue that Aegislash still keeps a high rank in A, as it is unique and definitely worth using after finding it that far into the game. It would be S rank if we found it much earlier, as well as Garchomp. However, in the case of Garchomp there is Flygon, which provides comparable results and becomes available at the middle of the game.
-
I'd argue the Mafia club and Salem are two different universes, with the most notable that the former time is in your favor, wheareas in the latter time restriction is what provides the evil roles time to mislead and win. The "board game" version is also a possibility. Secret Hitler seems like a simpler version or did I miss something?
-
The answer has been given above. By definition, those are Flying types and ones with Levitate. The mechanics do not serve personal ideas for each pokemon. Examples: Victreebel is neither part Flying type, nor does it have Levitate as its ability. Therefore not airborne. Charizard, being part Flying, is airborne. Rotom, having levitate, is airborne.
-
This is preposterous. Do you believe you can remove the fun out of this endeavor by harming stability? Your fervent passion for the tricksters has misled you to the erroneous conclusion of apparent impunity. No longer shall we ignore this distasteful preference for the lesser types. For, all the claws and teeth you staple on them, none have enough power to pierce our hard skin. Let this be your warning. Go back to the shadow.
-
Usually I don't nickname them, but if I'm doing a Nuzlocke or similar, they get their names to fit in the narrative. Don't worry if you don't get one or two. They looked fitting at the time.
-
Did they keep the version with 4 mafia members without the 'Any' or was it restored to the old role list? (being from mobile, I cannot immediately check)
-
@sosobean How rude! Your reward sits idly in the bin and you are soon to join it. Grass: 9 Steel: 14 Ground: 10 Ice: 18 Ghost: 17 Dark: 3 Bug: 19 Poison: 13 Oh, look! Grass seems vulnerable. Let us all gang up on it.

The -izer items are available at the Department Store in Obsidia after you return to the city, provided you have the needed stickers. Worry not if you decide on something else. I am giving you viable alternatives to boost your team, because you were gathering individually strong pokemon thus far. As with any other pokemon, they are not meant to fill in every role.
-
You are already using high-class pokemon. Luxray should definitely leave your team at this stage. You have the access to better electrics as well as other pokemon with electric coverage. I wouldn't recommend Magnezone because you already have a somewhat slow Steel type. Your rotation pokemon fill in exactly the same roles your primary team does. Blaziken makes Toxicroak and Arcanine redundant (albeit Luxray helps keep Arcanine in the PC thanks to its ability). I could argue that Blaziken and Gardevoir make up the offensive duo, while Vaporeon and Metagross are more needed to tank the damage. There is little support in between. Crobat is a wonderful mon with enough bulk not to be considered a "glass cannon". There are sets with Roost and Black Sludge that prove its survivability. Since it's the only one to avoid EQ spams, I'd keep it. You could fiddle with its EVs and perhaps even give it Leech Life (now that it's boosted) to improve your coverage. It usually does not need an item to be effective, so even Acrobatics is a good move on it, def and hp EVs provided. As it definitely seems, you wouldn't give up on Blaziken, Metagross or Gardevoir, even if it meant a more rounded team, so we'll make do with those and probably just change their sets. You must have noticed their moves cover up each other, without providing synergy. Make Metagross 100% physical with Zen Headbutt, Bullet Punch, Meteor Mash and a filler move of your choice. Options are: Ice Punch (tutors exist), Hammer Arm (can't depend on Blaziken to do all the fighting job), Earthquake (unsure if you can get it yet), and Explosion (for those harder to defeat foes). Gardevoir can't tank enough damage nor is fast enough to use Pain Split the way eg Cofagrigus or Duscnoir does. I'd rather give it Shadow Ball or Magical Leaf (since you have zero grass coverage). As for what to replace Luxray with, some ideas come to mind. The most overused one is Rotom-W or Rotom-M, since they alleviate your ground problem and provide some useful coverage whilst being bulky enough to take a few hits. The pivoting ability is nice, in my opinion. Unsure how it works out with your playstyle. Another option is Electivire, which overshadows Luxray in every single stat. The ability to have the elemental punches (especially Ice Punch) is a bonus you currently lack. A last pokemon I lik using is Eelektross but I don't see how it gets good synergy with Blaziken and Toxicroak being on the bench. It's merely a honorable mention at this point. Then Vaporeon gets the spotlight. A great pokemon on its own, it's a major drop in momentum for your team, but all possible replacements add up to the Ghost/Dark weakness you ought to not overlook. Luckily ghost is a rare type in later stages of Reborn, and Dark... well that's everywhere, so you might want to check what to do with that. An option is to replace Vaporeon with Primarina, a Water/Fairy type with potential of destroying enemy teams and will prove to be a great asset for the upcoming Dragon gym. Since Metagross and Crobat can take the physical damage, Primarina can sponge the special. Being part Fairy helps against Dark types but be careful of the double Fairies you get with Gardevoir still being in the party. Another option is Milotic, a well-tested specially orientated beast without the Fairy subtyping although definitely packing the moves. If you are opting for a more adventurous alternative, Araquanid is a new addition to the game with great Fire defense, Bug coverage (helpful against Dark) and a practical Huge Power for Water moves. It matters little if you go physical or special. It gets the job done.

Time to set some... ground rules. Everyone who heals ground gets a cookie or a meme. Anyone who hurts it gets a strongly worded response. Grass: 22 Steel: 11 Ground: 11 Ice: 17 Ghost: 21 Dark: 6 Bug: 19 Rock: 3 Poison: 12

If You Could Make Your Own Mega Evolution Mk. II
NickCrash replied to Lord Chespin's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
Please give your warmest welcome for my (not so) little friend!!! This mega has personality. The problem is, if you get close enough to get to know 'im, you might have come too close for your own safety. MEGA ARIADOS -
Now that we've reached our Top 10, it's time to remember our fallen heroes. Ghost should remain at default value 2. Ground shall receive more love 3. I will allow the next person to terminate the Fighting types

I see people playing a lot of games this year, and naturally the question comes to mind: How much does an average game cost where you live? How many can you afford per year?
-
Here if you go to the store to buy a game, it usually costs around 40-70 euros (new), depending on what system the game is for - games for handhelds seem to be cheaper.
I could probably afford one game a month or so, but I'm inconsistent with my purchases.
-
Standard price for a brand new console game is $60, plus tax, here in the US. Depending on your job and other expenses like rent, you can generally afford at least two games a month, if not more. Then of course there are things on steam which cost quite a bit less... Brand new handheld games are $40 plus tax. Even with all the different costs of living across the different states, these prices are all pretty much the same across all of 'em.
-
Alright, thanks for the replies. I was under the impression you were striking some kind of bargain thus getting all those games cheaply, but the prices seem about the same as here. In that case, it seems the average salary provides enough for such costs, or I'm just being too reluctant to buy stuff.
