[OOC/Sign-ups] Surge Story
Jory replied to Sutoratosu's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
What did you think of this Chapter? Did you enjoy it? It was nice to have a chapter with as much action as this one, particularly when many other RPs are currently in PC development chapters. Following up on that question; What do you think of this RP as a whole? I love it. The intensity just got ratcheted up in this chapter, which made it really fun to RP through. On to my writting in this, what do you think about it? Where could I possibly improve? If you're going to give Erick so much screen time, at least have him interact with the other PCs. At the beginning I had assumed he was essentially your PC, but he's turning into more of an NPC than anything else. Fixing that might be conducive to making him more likable. Surge and McCarthy are awesome, but I'd like to see more of what goes on behind the scenes with Oak, even if it's just a mysterious cutaway. Which Host Controlled Character's/ NPCs feel real to you? Which could use some improvement? McCarthy is by far my favorite. He's the badass general in charge, and that makes his lack of warmness perfectly suited to his job. Who is you favorite NPC? Why? Explain. I already answered this lol Who's your least favorite NPC? Why? Explain. Erick is kind of a selfish prick. He needs to become more of a team player, especially since he's supposed to be the most talented one in the squad. What do you think of Professor Rowan and Oak? Should I try to fit them to the mold they're portrayed as in the games a bit more, or should we just get a bit more creative? Basically what Murdoc said. What do you think of the battles that have been had so far? Do you disagree with the concept of Soldiers having no idea how to really bring out a GAOs potential in a fight at this point? I like the fact that they're all at higher levels than we are. It forces us to work as a squad and work on having more than one Pokemon out, which has actually helped me in other RPs. How would you feel If I told you that the rules of conventional battling for the most part aren't going to mean anything in this RP? Do you feel this adds to the realism of the story? Should one try to fight fairly, even in war? All's fair in love and war. What do you think of the integration between the real world and the concept of pokemon done in this RP? Where can it be improved in order to make things more real? I like it, but the lack of names for the GAOs is ridiculous. Just have Oak name them as they come up in the scanners. How would you feel if I tell you that a certain NPC/ HCG is eventually going to be forced to commit war crimes for their country? Unsurprised, but I don't think Jory would feel the same. Would you like seeing a bit of information about the world as a whole in the OP? I want to know which other NATO countries have started using GAOs. What did you think of the Mini-Boss battle for this Chapter? Awesome. What do you think of me as Host of this? Be honest, by now, I expect nothing less from you guys. You're a great host. You could stand to separate your paragraphs with line spaces, but I can live with it.- 1189 replies

Jacob ran into the brush in the direction Danielle had emerged from. He immediately spotted Slade with the three Haxorus behind him and shouted, "Look out!" However, he then noticed that the group of Haxorus wasn't attacking the other Trainer. In fact, the seemed to even be trying to sneak up on him. A look of horrible regret rose up on the Trainer's face as he realized just what had happened. "Oh, no..." he muttered. He ran back through the bushes toward Danielle and Ryan, then spoke quickly. "Those Haxorus weren't attacking us, they were just trying to scare us! None of them attacked Slade, but they're all right next to him. We need to extricate those others from the hole before they actually get mad!" He then looked toward Teo. "Use Sand Tomb to push those Haxorus up through the ice! Hurry, before they get hurt any more!" -
I'm looking forward to working with all of you as well! Since I'm new to RP hosting, I'd appreciate a PM on each RPer's part when you expect a response from me~ Also, tonight I'm going to be out of commission for a block of about 7 hours (from 4 EST or even earlier until 11 EST). I'll do my best to make time for everyone, but please don't expect me to run it as quickly or efficiently as Chimchain. I hope to help everyone have a good time, especially with Chim's input.

Jacob looked concernedly at Ryan's leg, then got an idea. "Teo, use Strength to lift Ryan onto Chalchi's back!" The Trapinch complied, getting under the other Trainer and carrying him on his back. "We need to get Slade and get the hell out of dodge right now!" -
Dru finally spoke up after simply listening intently for quite some time. His low voice rumbled in stark contrast to Helzebeth's and Sigurd's airier tones. "If we are to journey to the Shattered Hills, perhaps I could be of assistance. I lived there for many years and consider that land to be my home. It is where I honed my powers and learned to commune with the Earth." He then turned, addressing Sigurd specifically. "Sigurd, you are aware that I support many of your actions. However, I must ask that you not strain your relationships within the quest. The Shattered Hills are a dangerous place, especially for one used to the ways of the Wind. I think you will find yourself relying on Lady Helzebeth more than you had ever expected. To go where the Titan's Skin is may be the greatest peril we have yet to face. So I recommend that until we reach the Shattered Hills and you can see for yourself how strong one has to be simply to survive there, you follow the old saying: 'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and prove you are one.'"

Jacob snapped out of his reverie as he heard the Haxorus' roars. He quickly began to wipe away his tears as he unclipped Chalchi and Teo's balls from his belt. "Danielle, we'll finish this conversation later," he said quickly, trying to get into his battling focus. If I can't get out of here, at least everyone else can, he resolved. They're much too powerful for us to take down. Danielle was right. There's only one way out of this, he thought to himself as Ryan ran into the clearing. He looked to his two friends sadly and pointed in the direction of the scorched battlefield. "You two need to run, NOW!" he barked at them. "SLADE!" he hollered. "WHATEVER'S GOING ON WHERE YOU ARE, RUN BACK TO THE BATTLEFIELD!" Jacob pressed the release buttons on Chalchi and Teo's balls. When the two saw the Haxorus pair, they knew precisely what their Trainer was thinking and took their battle stances. He looked at Danielle and Ryan as if it were the last time he'd be able to. "I have an idea. It just might work, but if it doesn't we need to run." He turned to his Pokemon. "Chalchi, Teo, use Slippery Slope!" Chalchi nodded, her eyes glowing green as she released a Confuse Ray toward the large Dragons. As she did that, Teo used Sand Tomb to create a large pit between the Trainer group and the Haxorus pair. Next, Chalchi used Water Gun, hosing down the area underneath the Dragons' feet. She then quickly used Freeze Dry, creating a large ice slick for the confused Dragons. As they tried to approach Jacob and his Pokemon, the fearsome beasts misstepped, tripping over each other and falling onto the ice. "Now, Teo, Pitfall again!" he ordered. Teo immediately used Sand Tomb to create a hole underneath the ice. Under their combined weight the ice broke, causing them to tumble into the deep hole. Although the Dragons hadn't sustained much damage, they were now tangled up in one another in a hole that was too small for them to maneuver effectively in. They roared in frustration as Jacob turned back to Ryan and Danielle. "We need to find Slade! Let's go!" -

Jacob nodded sadly. "She was, although I meant every word I said about her." He sighed heavily once more. If I do that again today, I think I'll collapse a lung, he thought to himself. "Danielle, I don't know any other way to say this, so I'm going to just say it. I like you. A lot. And I know that you have feelings for... someone else," he said cautiously, still unsure of whether it had been Flare or Avis who'd tracked him down. He fought back tears once more, blinking hard. "I want you to know that I still want us to be friends. You're one of my best friends, and I don't want to ruin that. I've wanted to tell you for so long, but I knew pretty early on how you felt about him. I didn't want to make you feel like you had to choose. I still don't, but every time I see you look at him that way it kills me inside," he said quietly. "I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm at the end of my rope," he finished, his voice cracking on the end. -
If anyone needs help with AP European History, American History, Language & Composition, Literature & Composition, Government, Macroeconomics, or Biology I'd be happy to help. Although my Bio curriculum is apparently outdated >>

The idea was for each of us to choose 1, but I suppose if that's too much we'll go with the ones we picked represent the team as a whole (Tyrantrum, Aurorus, and Kyurem as I recall).

Jacob took out his Poke Balls and looked toward his Pokemon. "Thanks for all your support, guys, but this is something I need to do alone." Chalchi and Teo nodded. With their consent secured, Jacob hit the return button on the balls and recalled them in a brief flash of light. He then turned toward Danielle, sadness in his eyes. Even now she's concerned about me and asking 'What happened?' If she doesn't know already, then I need to tell her myself, he thought to himself, mentally steeling himself for what he was about to say. "Nothing happened to me, Danielle, You know me. If anything physical happened to me, I'd rush into it head-on and accept the outcome. But this is different," he said quietly, treading on new ground. "I'm not good at expressing my emotions. I never have been, and that's something I know I need to fix." He took a deep breath and continued, knowing he was venturing into dangerous territory. "Do you remember the day we met?" he asked softly. "I know I do. You were standing in a group of people as usual. Avis was with you," he recalled, chuckling sadly. "Do you know why I came over that day?" -
That's something we'll figure out if/when that selection wins. For now, let's focus on seeing what people want.

Jacob gulped as Danielle stepped out of the underbrush. He looked from Danielle to the other boy and back, then repeated the process several times. He opened his mouth to begin speaking, but no words came out. He looked over at Ryan for help, desperation evident in his eyes. I thought I could handle this. There's no way I can, though. Not with Ryan here, he thought nervously, looking down at the ground. Teo wiggled in between Jacob's legs and stared up at his Trainer. The message was clear: You need to say something. Finally, Jacob looked up. He swallowed the lump in his throat and pursed his lips, thinking of what to say. As he tried to form a sentence, the seconds felt like hours. He felt his heart begin to beat rapidly and a drop of sweat rolled down his forehead. His stomach felt like it was doing somersaults, and he didn't think he'd be able to take it much longer. More seconds went by in the oppressive silence. Eventually, he opened his mouth to speak, but this time he actually managed a few words. "I want to talk to Danielle alone," he said quietly, looking up at Ryan and fighting back tears. "It's really important." -

Jacob turned once Ryan did, sighting Danielle's Murkrow. The Trainer looked panicked for a moment, then realized it was futile. Either Flare or Avis tracked me here, he guessed. And that means... "They're here," he said quietly, looking to Ryan. "I know I haven't exactly been honest with you, but could you please stay for a little bit? I think... I think I'm going to have to tell her," he managed to get out, his eyes welling up. He then looked back to the Murkrow. "I know they're here too, Avis." He then raised his voice slightly to make sure everyone nearby could hear. "And if they wanted to find me, they have. So they can come out. I'm ready to talk." -
Guys, there's a poll up about what we want as a reward. It may not come to fruition, but it will help Ame decide what is fair for us to get. http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10431 If you pick Custom Member Title, remember to suggest one!

Jacob looked up at Ryan, then panickedly hid his face and wiped away his tears. He then looked up at his roommate's... whatever they were... and gave him the biggest smile he could manage at the moment, which was frankly a pretty poor excuse for a smile. "Oh, nothing, man. Just sitting here enjoying nature and whatnot. Nothing special or depressing at all," he said quickly, trying his best to hold himself together. "What about you?" he asked, eager to change the subject. "Found any cool Pokemon yet? Or did you just come to hang out?" he continued, running out of ideas. He's reading me like a book, the young Trainer thought to himself, feeling like an idiot for trying to hide his feelings from Ryan yet continuing to try anyway. -
Fiscal Conservatism is Libertarianism, but much less extreme and with much less political weight. My political views are governed by my idea of what creates a high-functioning society, not by my personal freedoms (although I believe that a person has the right to do what he wants provided it does not infringe on the rights of others).
-
Sorry, but I'm a fiscal conservative. Libertarians should vote Republican if you want to make a difference. I could easily see the Republican party becoming more Libertarian-friendly in the near future, especially with the large number of college students interested in that political leaning. EDIT: To clarify, I vote Independent, and usually for the Libertarian candidate. I don't feel the Republican party yet deserves my support. They need to embrace social progressivism before I'm willing to cast my ballot for them.

Jacob sighed in frustration, running his hands through his hair once more as Chalchi and Teo looked on worriedly. His Pokemon had done everything they could think of to comfort him, including Teo falling off of Chalchi's back in an attempt to make their Trainer laugh, but to no avail. The young man seemed intent on battling his inner demons himself, and so all they could do was be nearby in case he needed them. I just... How can I go back there knowing that every time I see Slade talk to Danielle I'm going to hate him for it? Why did it have to be my friend? he asked himself again, stuck on the fact that he was now at odds with the very people he should be able to talk to the situation about. Jacob finally looked up, noticing the concern in his Pokemon's eyes. His own began to well up as he once again began to feel overwhelmed by his emotions. "I'm sorry, guys. I don't want you to worry about me. It's just..." he trailed off, feeling slightly awkward about talking to his Pokemon about his personal problems. No, he said to himself. They've been here for you this whole time. They want to know why you're sad. He looked up at Chalchi and Teo, smiling sadly. "Danielle is the only girl I've ever felt this way about. Yeah, there have been other girls I've had crushes on, but none that I've gotten to know like her. None that have her brains or her incredible talent for making people feel welcome and safe. How am I supposed to deal with the fact that she's interested in one of my best friends at the entire Academy? It's not just that she likes him, it's that she likes him instead of me," he said, the feelings he'd kept back for so long beginning to rush forward. "It's so hard to pretend that I don't like her when I see her flirting with Slade all the time. And when she looks at him the way I look at her, it just kills me. It makes me feel like I'm invisible," he said quietly. "I've been the invisible kid for so long. I thought this would be a fresh start. I thought I'd left that all behind." Finally, he stood up and walked over to Chalchi. He sat down, leaning against her side and scooping up Teo to cradle the Trapinch in his arms. "At least I have you guys, though. Thanks for hearing me out," he said sincerely, looking each Pokemon in the eye. "I love you guys. You know that, right?" he asked as tears began to roll down his face. Teo nodded, not making a sound. He'd been with Jacob long enough to know what he was talking about. Chalchi nodded understandingly, but gave a questioning look to her Trainer, as if to say, "I want to know more when we get back to the Academy." Jacob sighed, resting his head on the Lapras and closing his eyes. "I don't know what to do. I always know what to do, but right now I couldn't be at any more of a loss," he murmured, wiping away a tear. -
I'm going to derail this conversation for a moment in favor of making a speech driven by the most enlightening conversation I've had since I learned the Tooth Fairy wasn't real. Tonight I had the pleasure of sitting down for dinner with Mr. Franklin Silbey, a man who, at a ripe 79 years of age, still has the most agile mind of any man I have ever had the privilege of speaking with. He has spent many, many years on Capitol Hill as a staffer for many notable politicians, including (but certainly not limited to) Senator Orrin Hatch ® of Utah, Senator Max Baucus (D), and Representative John Moss (D). Mr. Silbey was formerly extremely active within the Democratic Party and has years of experience in our government. With my knowledge of his career, it came as a huge surprise to me when he declared, "I am a recovering Democrat." By this, he meant that he has switched sides. He now votes Republican and gives a lot of support to Republican candidates through his contacts in his old field. Mr. Silbey gave me one simple reason for this switch: "I didn't leave my party. My party left me." For those of you who have stuck around long enough to read to here, I'm sure you're wondering why he would say something like that. The answer is relatively easy to pinpoint: the Democratic Party of today is not the Democratic Party that once was. At one point, the Democratic Party stood for liberalism. They wanted to enact productive social change in order to better the lives of Americans. However, what we have seen over the past 20 years is a slide away from the moderate center and toward the far left. America once stood for ambition, stood for the idea that one man could lift himself up by his bootstraps like Mr. Silbey, a child of poor immigrants from "the old country," did by working the graveyard shift at a steel mill for $1.62 an hour to put himself through college. And this man, who is a rather wealthy man who no longer benefits from Capitol Hill, wants to see change. More than anything, he says he wants to see young people step up to the plate and change the ill-fated course that we are currently on. And he wants us to do it by voting Republican. The Democratic Party of today seeks to undermine that American self-reliance and ambition which is rewarded by our economic system. Instead of encouraging people to look after their own interests, be responsible, and, most importantly, to strive for their dreams no matter the cost, they tell us only not to worry and that the government will take care of everything. The simple fact is that America doesn't need more welfare programs. We already have unemployment benefits, free clinics, and public education systems. We have roads that stretch for hundreds of thousands of miles, all built on the government's (read: taxpayers') dime. Why, you ask, am I sitting here on the toilet bashing the Democratic Party? I bash them because they've lost their way. I fancy myself a modern conservative; that is to say, my ideology is not guided by some book written a millennium and a half ago. It is not guided by the idea that I'm rich and everyone who's poor can suck a fat one. I bash them because the Democratic Party is no longer the American party. They prey on the hopes and wishful thinking of the downtrodden and the poor, the social outcasts and those who have been wrongly punished by an unjust system of government. I bash them because I believe that the Republican Party, as misguided as they are currently, holds the most hope for our future as a country. They're not just old curmudgeons who are stuck in their ways. They are politicians who are too old to understand the needs and wants of a generation born into a different world than they were. We as young people need to speak up and speak out. We need to express the fact that we will not vote for a candidate who does not support the enactment of social change, and we need to do it loudly. We need to tell them what issues are important to us so they can change their platform. A political party has only one goal: to acquire votes. If we are loud and we make ourselves heard, if we do this civilly through discussion with our local politicians and party representatives, then perhaps we can help Frank Silbey's dream come true. Perhaps we can change a nation. Perhaps we can change the world. It all starts with us. In 20 years, we will be the majority. Let's not be the majority that stood idly by as our predecessors ran our country head first into the ground. Let's not be the "Lost Generation." Let's be the generation that made our dreams a reality.

Jacob felt a twinge of jealousy as Slade got very close to Danielle. He knew he shouldn't feel that way, especially since they were both his friends, but dang it all if his heart was being a huge jerk about the whole thing. Since the beginning of the semester his feelings for Danielle had waned slightly, but he still felt very attached to her. He turned a bright shade of red, clearly flustered by the incident and not really knowing how to react. So, he did the only thing he knew how to. Distance himself. He cleared his throat, then spoke. "You know what guys? On second thought, I'm going to head off on my own. It might be easier for me to find the Pokemon I want if I can focus on just that. I need to clear my head," he said, his curt tone clearly contrasted from the jubilant one he'd been speaking in just a moment ago. "Sorry to run off on you, Shiro," he added, beginning to feel overwhelmed. Teo shifted uneasily in his Trainer's arms, not sure why Jacob had become distant so quickly. With that, Jacob strode off into the forest, all his thoughts bouncing around his head like a million bees in a jar. Why can't I shake my feelings for her? And why doesn't she feel that way about me? What's so special about Slade, anyway? he thought to himself, distressed at the prospect of losing his friends to something like this. Jacob had noticed how Danielle felt about his friend three weeks into the semester. It wasn't really hard to if you spent enough time watching her face around the other teen. The way she smiled dreamily at him and acted all flustered when her Pokemon interrupted her. I wish I didn't know, he thought sadly. It was so much easier to pretend when I thought she might feel the same way about me. He abruptly stopped walking, looking around. He'd wandered pretty deep into the forest, enough so that he could no longer hear any of the other Trainers. There was an eerie quiet to the area. Not even the chirps of the usual avian Pokemon could be heard. Jacob finally gave up, sitting with his back to a tree and putting Teo on the ground. The Trapinch climbed up his shoulder and nuzzled his head, knowing that his Trainer had finally had enough of the charade.
