Pokémon Academy: Ch 1a: A fresh start [IC]
Jory replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Jacob followed Danielle over to Evan, unsure of what to do. He didn't really know the guy too well, but all the same he felt as though he should at least check to make sure he was okay. So, following that train of thought, he proceeded to watch over Danielle's shoulder, a concerned expression on his face. He lifted Teo up in his arms so the Trapinch could see. Suddenly, Teo made a gurgling noise and nudged Chalchi's Poke Ball. Jacob immediately picked up on his Pokemon's idea and hit the release button, causing the Transport Pokemon to appear in a flash of light. He then spoke up. "Hey, guys, Chalchi can apply cold water to that Scald if we need her to. It should alleviate some of Evan's pain." -

Jacob looked concernedly over toward Evan and Alvin, who appeared to want to rip each other's throats out. The young man sighed and shook his head before turning to Danielle. "It's only the second day. What could have happened to make two people at odds so quickly?" he asked her, more interested in her answer than in the fight between two people who he hardly knew. Then again, now would be a good time to get to know their names. "And who are they?" -

Jacob quickly recalled Chalchi and scooped up Teo, running after Danielle. He stopped near her and dropped Teo to the ground. He landed adroitly on all fours as Jacob approached Danielle, Teo prepared to stand alongside her Pokemon. The teenager stood protectively in front of Danielle, looking at Phoebe with a confused gaze. He had seen the fight being broken up, but wanted to make sure Claude and Danielle were not going to be hurt. Once he realized that he backed down, a somewhat meeker expression on his face. He turned to the girl. "Sorry it took me so long to get over here. I had to figure out what to do with Chalchi. What'd I miss?" -

Jacob smiled sheepishly, glad that he hadn't completely ruined his chances. "You're right! We'll get on a field once someone else is done. For now... Well, come on out, Lapras!" he said excitedly, pressing the button on his ball. A flash of light appeared, and then Lapras formed from it. The sea Pokemon gave a confused cry as she hit the ground, then smiled over to Jacob. She was clearly an adolescent and had not yet reached her full size. "Well, this is my Lapras, and I'm sure you've already met Teo," he said happily to Danielle. He then addressed his Lapras. "Hey there! I'm Jacob, and I'm gonna be your trainer. Is that okay?" he asked, remembering that Lapras were able to understand human speech quite well. She nodded and her Trainer smiled. "Great! I'll call you Chalchi. Alright?" The Lapras nodded again, crying out happily and nuzzling her Trainer's shoulder with her snout. Teo bumped the Lapras on the side and she craned her neck to inspect her teammate, leaving their Trainer free for a moment. Jacob then turned to Danielle, giving her his undivided attention. "Quite astute of you," he said lightly, becoming more comfortable around her. "I'm actually from Unova, Accumula Town to be specific. It's not nearly as nice there as it is here, though. I'm glad for the chance to come and study and meet people my own age. He then turned bright red, remembering about Claude. "And I'm guessing Claude is... uh... he plays for a different team than I do, right?" he asked cautiously, not wanting to offend Danielle. "I'm just not used to having so many boys flirting with me..." he said quietly. -

Jacob smiled at Danielle. "Oh, I want to let Lapras out of her ball before we battle! But I'm more interested in our battle than in Ryan and Kage's," he said, continuing toward the fields. "So, you said merci. I'll take it you're from Kalos, then?" he said with a bit of a chuckle. "I've never been there before, but I've heard that the Pokemon there are so cool! I've always wondered what it would be like to train a Helioptile!" he said excitedly, nerding out a little bit. Jacob turned red in embarrassment and shut his mouth, hoping to Arceus that he hadn't made a misstep before the battle had even begun. -

Jacob smiled broadly as Danielle invited him to the battlefield. It's the perfect opportunity to get to know her better! And from the way she treated that Larvesta, she's really nice! he thought happily, hanging onto the Lapras's Poke Ball in one hand and carrying Teo under his other arm. Hmm... I'll have to think of a nickname for my new Lapras. Maybe Chalchi would be a good one! he pondered. He then turned to Danielle, continuing to walk toward the battlefield. "Hey, Danielle, what do you think of the name Chalchi for my Lapras? I think she'll like it a lot! And Corona was such a good choice for your Larvesta's. It really captures her fiery essence." -

Lux nodded, kicking himself for not thinking about the man already at the bar. "You're right. Let's give it a little bit of time. Meanwhile, we should begin to look for the informant. And by the way, thanks for reminding me. My past isn't a place I'd like to revisit anytime soon," he reasoned. "Where do you think we should start?" -

Jacob picked Teo up off the ground and nearly sprinted to the Ice-type table. He looked excitedly at the Poke Balls, a little disappointed by the number that had been picked over by other students. He read each name carefully, moving slowly down the table. Wow. Bergmite... Sneasel, Snorunt, Spheal... All of them are strong. But none of them quite fit the bill... Hey! Some Water-types have Ice typing! he thought enthusiastically, carrying Teo over to the Water-type aisle. He set Teo down on the table so his partner could see who their new teammate was going to be. "What do you think, Teo? Should we go for Seel? It evolves into Dewgong! That's an Ice-type. Or maybe Shellder. Cloyster is a defensive powerhouse, after all." Teo shook his head and moved away from the S section toward the L's. His Trainer followed him and eventually Teo nudged a ball with his jaws. Jacob picked the ball up and read the text: "Lapras, Female." Jacob smiled happily at his Trapinch. "That's a great pick, buddy! Let's go see what the girl with the Murkrow picked and challenge her to a battle. At least we can have that in common!" he said, picking Teo up and walking back to the girl. "Hey, I see that you haven't picked yet. Mind if I tag along and we can battle after?" -

Teo gurgled happily at Ryan as Jacob stammered something, then quickly gave up and grimaced. "Fine. I'll go. Are you happy now?" he said sarcastically, walking toward the girl with the Murkrow and putting his hand out behind him, flipping his middle finger up at Kage and Ryan. As he approached, he the girl talking about someone named Claude. He buckled down and continued forward, stopping at the edge of the circle. He took a deep breath to gain his composure, remembering Ryan's words. I should compliment her Murkrow! he thought, smiling lightly. Finally, he spoke up. "Excuse me, I don't know anything about what happened earlier, but your Murkrow looks really strong. I've never seen one in person before." -

Jacob recovered from Ryan's push quickly and pivoted on his right foot turning right back around and walking behind Ryan, laughing nervously. "Guys, she's way out of my league. Get real," he said quietly, trying to sound casual. He looked down at the floor, his heart thudding in his chest. If I don't they'll think I'm a wimp, but if I do then I'm gonna choke up before I can say anything to her, he thought to himself, closing his eyes tightly and attempting to wish his way out of the situation. He peeked one eye open and sighed in defeat, his only hope of escape foiled by reality. "She'd never go for someone like me anyway. Look at her! She's so... people-y," he noted. "I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable in the limelight like she is right now." Teo moved behind his Trainer and bumped him on the back of the knee, hoping to move him forward. "No way, Teo. Sorry." -
I learned it in a Creative Writing class in 7th grade, although I'd always known to do so because I was pretty bookish as a kid and the way I learn best is, "Monkey see, monkey do." I could tell you exactly what's wrong with your sentence and have no idea what the technical reason for it is. I just happen to be very good at speaking English.

Jacob turned beet red, flushed with embarrassment from the moment Ryan brought up the girl with the Murkrow. He gave Teo a panicked look and the Trapinch opened its maw, letting out a dry huffing sound that his Trainer knew as a laugh. His heart sank and he covered his face with his hands. He muttered something to Ryan, but quickly realized the other Trainer wouldn't have heard it. Jacob removed his hands from his face and sighed, looking hopelessly at Kage and Ryan. "I don't! I mean.... I... Wh-... I guess so..." he said quietly, trying not to let it get to him. He turned to his friends once more. "What should I do? She doesn't even know I exist!" -

Seeing as how I have yet to make more than 10 posts this whole time when everyone seems to be done, I regret to say I need to drop this RP. It's a source of worry and occasional annoyance for me at a time in my life when I need to be focused on my work and my other RPs. Sorry Grass -

Jacob smiled at Ryan, inwardly grimacing. I still can't believe they left me there, he thought to himself. He then realized he'd been standing still doing nothing for an uncomfortably long amount of time while Ryan awaited his response. He scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, uh, I guess it's not really any kind of issue. I was just shocked at how quickly the two of you extricated yourselves from the Contest Hall," he said quietly, looking around the room. He once again spotted the girl with the Murkrow and couldn't help but think to himself that she was pretty cute. He shook his head, not quite understanding why he felt like he had Butterfrees in his stomach. However, the more he tried not to think about her, the harder it became. Eventually he simply turned to Ryan, desperate for a distraction. "What new Pokemon do you think you're gonna get today? I'm hoping for something to give those big bad Dragons some trouble." -
Let me lay a little basic English literary structure on you fellas: - When a character engages in internal monologue (such as thoughts), they don't usually need to be separated from that same character's actual speech by a line space. For example: As seen in this example, if a person expresses thought and spoken dialogue without an interrupting party, there does not need to be a line space. However, it is still acceptable to make a line space if you really want, as well as in the case of a change in subject (like a regular paragraph change). - Conversely, when a character is thinking and the spoken dialogue of a different character interrupts the first character's, there needs to be a line space demarcating the two different perspectives. For this purpose, I'm simply going to add onto the earlier example. In this example, we see a change in speaker from Kenny ("Isn't Jory such a dickhead?") to Chimchain ("Yeah!"), thus making the inclusion of a line space absolutely necessary.

Jory sighed in relief as he saw the opposing Onix fall into the sinkhole and not rise back out of it, wiping the sweat from his eyebrow. Suddenly, he saw the enemy operative attempting to jimmy the door to a helicopter. "Kenny! Enemy operative on my twelve! We need to capture him so the higher-ups can figure out just what the hell happened here tonight!" With that said, the cadet took off, Oliver and Neffi close behind him as he began to close in on the hostile. He quickly began to give orders to his duo. "Oliver, use an acrobatic maneuver to force him to the ground! Neffi, I want you to use your claws to make sure he can't run away! Let's go!" ------------------------------------------ Moves ordered: Oliver- Acrobatics Neffi- Fury Swipes (hamstring maneuver)

Jacob finished his test quickly, surprised to see that someone had indeed finished before him. He was pretty ambivalent about the test, as he felt he'd done extraordinarily well on the knowledge portion, but his battling strategy definitely needed work. It appeared as though this year was not going to be such a breeze, after all. He left the room in a hurry, absentmindedly handing his paper to the Blastoise at the front of the room before exiting and heading toward the gymnasium. Upon getting there, he spotted Ryan in a bit of a tiff. He was still upset about being left behind yesterday, ultimately deciding to stay nearby in case Ryan needed him but not directly intervening. -

Jacob pouted in ire for a moment as the two teenagers walked off, having evidently discovered something more important than common courtesy. Teo whined and pointed toward the doors. Jacob chuckled and picked the Trapinch up, nuzzing his oversized head gently. "We'll go get you some food, buddy. Don't worry! I'm hungry too. We'll just meet up with them at the barbecue. With that, he and his partner began to make their way down the stairs, and eventually out of the Contest Hall. They began to walk toward the 'last free meal' as Jacob began to think. I love Teo, but he's gonna have a lot of problems matching up against some of these kids' Pokemon. Hopefully I get something with a bit more immediate power. And something that'll give Dragons trouble, to boot... I guess we'll have to wait and see. He scratched the Trapinch lightly behind its front left leg, a personal favorite spot of Teo's. His back right leg began to tap rhythmically, gently contacting his Trainer's arm. ======================================================================================================================================================================= Upon arriving at the barbecue, the first thing Jacob noticed was the smell. It smelled like... oh, it couldn't possibly be... juicy, tender, straight-off-the-bone, honest-to-goodness meat. The teenager's mouth began to water as he slowly moved toward the buffet tables. His Pokemon appeared to be in a similar trance with his eyes closed and air audibly entering his nostrils. Oh, sweet Arceus yes... Finally, meat! MEAT! MEAT! he thought to himself as he increased his pace. He took a plate and began to move around to the various food areas, grabbing four hot dogs, two Tauros burgers with pulled pork and cheese on them, and an entire rack of baby back ribs. Jacob and Teo began to move toward the seating area. The Trapinch had the meat plate balanced on his back as his trainer sought out a place to sit. As his eyes scanned the room for a table, Jacob's eyes lit on an empty table. He and Teo began to messily dig in, savoring every bite of the freshly cooked meat. -

Lux turned his head so it was facing roughly thirty degrees from where the man in question was sitting and observed him using his peripheral vision, leaning over to whisper in Beverly's ear once more. "That guy looks like he just saw a ghost. There's something more to him than what's going on here, that much is clear. Let's make sure we keep an eye on him. The last thing we want is this party to be ruined before we can extract the information from the government contact. Maybe we should make contact with The Bartender. He might know where to start," the young man said, brushing his cheek against his partner's to keep up appearances. "So, Bev, can I buy you a drink?" -
Is Gyro Ball allowed? It's easier to fulfill than Acro or Knock Off given the presence of fast fully evolved Pokemon.
