The Awakened - First Pillar (IC Thread)

Lux nodded, not expecting the psychic to be the introvert of the group. "You've got it. Let's head over." He led his 'date' over to the group, smiling broadly. "Hello, gentlemen. Lucius Jett, and this is my lovely date Beverly. This party is so marvelous and so fantastic that we both agreed we would like nothing more than to personally thank the host for inviting us. Might you know where we could find the master of the house?" he said, affecting a spot-on Essex accent and making sure to look down his nose at the people he was speaking to. -

Jacob paused awkwardly, not sure how to follow up the horrifically tragic stories that each of the Trainers at the table had told. If I tell a lighthearted one I guess that would be okay... he thought to himself, now feeling self-conscious about his lack of a depressing backstory. He then sighed and smiled at Danielle and Slade, realizing that neither of them would care what the content of the story was, just that he shared one. He looked down at Teo and smiled, eliciting a happy gurgle from the Trapinch. Jacob then nodded to the other two. "Well, I don't have any experience with the kind of stuff that you two dealt with. Since the whole Team Plasma incident in my town way back when, people have made an effort to be more socially conscious and aware of how their actions impact others. But the way I met Teo was pretty funny. I guess I'll tell that story." And with that he began to launch into the tale of how he caught his Trapinch. ================================================================================================================================================= Jacob's hands and face pressed against the window, squishing his features as he excitedly looked at the terrain below. "Mom! Dad! Look, it's Mt. Pyre!" the preteen said enthusiastically, pointing a finger at the volcano in the distance. He looked back at his parents, who were both wearing their headphones. His father was typing furiously on his laptop, most likely sending some kind of work-related e-mail. His mother was simply reading a book, leafing lazily through the pages while she sipped her ginger ale. The child sighed in disappointment and slumped back into his seat. This is taking foreveeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr! I'm 11 years old for Arceus's sake! I don't have this kind of time to waste! he thought to himself, looking anxiously forward and backward. The cabin of the airplane was filled to the brim with passengers, most of whom were wearing some variation on a classic Unovan tourist's outfit; that is to say, they were wearing Pacifidlog-style shirts. The child petulantly crossed his arms and pouted, waiting for the trip to be over. He quickly fell into a light sleep, his head resting on his mother's shoulder. When he awoke, the plane had already landed and his mother's hand was on his shoulder. "Wake up, Jacob. We're here!" she said excitedly, grabbing her bag out of the overhead compartment and joining Mr. Robertson in the aisle. Jacob blearily stepped out of his row of seats and proceeded down the stairs from the plane. When he exited the door, his eyes lit up and he smiled brightly. "LAVARIDGE TOWN! YOU GUYS DIDN'T TELL ME WE WERE COMING HERE! YOU SAID WE WERE GOING TO GRAMMA'S!" he shouted excitedly bouncing up and down. His parents laughed and ushered him toward the airport, a small building with only a baggage claim, a check-in counter, and a security line. The next day, Jacob and his parents woke up early and went down to the hot springs. Upon seeing all the sand in front of them, Jacob ran off and began playing in the sand, running it through his fingers and digging small holes to excavate a big pile of sand. He continued digging around until he reached his hand into the dirt and felt something sharp. He cried out in pain, nursing his injured hand as the sand in front of him began to shift. Suddenly, a small Trapinch's head poked out of the sand and looked at Jacob. It gurgled at him, evidently a little confused as to why the child was digging. Excited by the prospect of catching a Pokemon, Jacob dove toward the Trapinch, trying to wrap his arms around it. The small Pokemon simply ducked into the sand and out of the way, popping up behind him and gurgling once more, this time sounding happier. Jacob dove for it again and missed again, as the Trapinch dove into the sand and came up behind him once more, gurgling in laughter. Jacob smiled at the Pokemon and began laughing at its antics until his sides hurt and he was unable to breathe properly. For the next couple of hours he played in the sand with the Trapinch until his parents called him back to the hotel room. "I'll be back tomorrow!" Jacob said happily, patting the Pokemon on its large jaw. Sure enough, the next day Jacob showed up at the sand and played with the Trapinch for the rest of the day, eventually picking him up and carrying him over to his parents. "Mom, Dad, can I keep him?" he asked, making his biggest, roundest eyes at his mother. She relented quickly enough. "Okay, sweetie, but he's your responsibility. You have to feed him and wash him and make sure he doesn't eat the furniture. Okay?" she asked the young Jacob, who nodded vigorously. Jacob's father sat back and smiled, happy that his son had found a friend. Later that night, his father whispered to his mother, "I'm glad we brought him to Hoenn to find a Pokemon. The ones in Unova can be pretty hostile. Do you think he knows that's why we're here?" The mother shook her head. "No. I just know that he's happy and he's found a new friend." And so, when it came time for the Robertsons to leave Lavaridge Town, they brought a new family member with them. ===================================================================================================================================================== Jacob took a long gulp of water, as his throat was dry from talking so much. "And that's how I met Teo," he finished, waiting for a response from Danielle or Slade. -

Jacob sat still, unable to respond appropriately to the weight of what Danielle had just revealed about herself. Sweet Arceus... I couldn't imagine what would happen if anything happened to Teo.... he thought to himself, holding his Trapinch tighter. Chalchi leaned her head in and wrapped her neck around her Trainer's shoulders. "Thanks, guys," he said quietly, allowing himself to be comforted by his Pokemon's presence. Then, he looked up at Danielle, who seemed to be casually sipping her water. That couldn't have been easy for her. Jacob sat still for a few more moments, gathering his thoughts. "I can't believe they did that to Avis. That's not right at all and they got what they deserved. And most of all, I'm sorry that our battle brought up memories like that. I know it couldn't have been easy to see Avis like that. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to Teo or Chalchi." He shuddered at the thought. He immediately tried to think of something else, as the thought upset him. Then, he turned his attention to Slade, hoping the other boy's story would get his mind off of bad things happening to his friends. He leaned over to Danielle. "You did an amazing thing by saving Avis and got rewarded for it. I for one am glad that little troublemaker made it out okay." -
Moonfolk should be super pretentious toward Elves. Bit of a reversal of the normal "haughty elf" thing that Elves might do with Humans.

Jacob looked carefully at Danielle as Teo crawled over to him and up his legs, sitting in his Trainer's lap. The teenager stroked the Trapinch's huge jaw, smiling at Chalchi when he realized the Lapras had craned her neck to be a part of the conversation. I'm glad she's able to talk about it in front of more people than just me. She's making progress, he noted. Jacob put a hand on Danielle's shoulder and nodded encouragingly. "Hey, no matter what happened, we're all here to support you. Don't worry, Danielle," he said quietly, looking her in the eyes. He then sat back in his chair and put his hand back on Teo, who gurgled in appreciation, ready for Danielle to begin her story. -

Jacob blushed more deeply each time someone mentioned the word "date" until it became apparent both of the other students were waiting on him. Shoot, he said to himself. I guess there goes my exclusive dinner with Danielle. I'm sure there will be another time, and she doesn't seem to mind, so I guess it's okay with me, he told himself before smiling at Slade and opening his arms in a welcoming gesture. "Hey, I know that if I were sitting alone I'd want people to do the same thing for me. Come join us, Slade. I'm sure more people will be showing up for dinner soon regardless." -

Jacob followed Danielle over to the table, putting his food down at the seat next to hers and beginning to prepare dinner for Chalchi and Teo. Should I release Chalchi in here? She's kinda big... he thought to himself, looking around the room for guidance. He laughed at his own misgivings shortly thereafter, having spotted a trainer being harassed by his very hungry Snorlax across the room. He released Chalchi from her ball and set the pair's dishes down near those of Danielle's Pokemon so they could socialize a little bit while their Trainers ate. Teo gurgled happily at the sight of the food and immediately began to dig in, taking large scoops of the PokeFood in his mouth and crunching it between his huge jaws. Chalchi ate much more daintily, picking each piece up one at a time and seeming to savor the taste. After making sure his Pokemon had their food Jacob sat down, ready to eat his own dinner. He looked across the table at the other Trainer and extended a hand. "Hey, I'm Jacob. It's nice to meet you!" -

Jacob continued walking red-faced next to Danielle, having turned an even deeper scarlet after the girl mentioned he looked cute. From that point on, everything he heard was a wash of white noise as that comment replayed over and over in his he. He kept walking next to her with a face that would make a Kricketune's look white by comparison and an incredibly stupid grin, but he was on an entirely different planet until he realized she was no longer standing next to him. She had, in fact, already grabbed all the food she intended to eat. Th teenager shook himself out of his reverie as Danielle called to him. "Sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww?" Jacob asked, doing his best impression of a Slowpoke before walking into the grill line. He got a double cheeseburger piled high with lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon as well as a salad with spinach, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and Balsamic vinaigrette. He then proceeded to the Pokemon food line and grabbed several berries, along with two plates of Pokemon food for his team. Jacob eventually made his way over to Danielle. "Where do you want to sit?" -

Jacob blushed profusely, having received exactly the kind of response he'd hoped to avoid. He laughed awkwardly for a moment, trying not to make too much eye contact with Danielle, as she would surely know something was amiss if he allowed her the opportunity to notice. "Yeah, they were certainly annoying with those moves in our battle." He then attempted to address the other half of Danielle's reply, tripping over his own words a few too many times. "I'm not... I mean... You don't have to... It's not a big-... I'm not that-..." he tried to get out, dying a little on the inside each time he failed to come up with a response, his face turning progressively redder as he went along. He stopped trying to talk for the moment and sighed, hanging his head in defeat. "Let's go get food," he said suddenly, trying to change the subject. -

Jacob laughed lightly as he walked alongside Danielle, happy to spend time with her. "Well, the workout wasn't too bad. Teo and I work out every day, so we're in pretty good shape," he said sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. "How was it for you guys? Corona and Avis look fine, but you look like you just ran a marathon!" he teased, smiling at her. -

Jacob leaned against the wall, breathing lightly as he recovered from the workout. It was nothing that he wasn't used to, as he liked to make a habit of going to the gym every day anyway. It was something he could control; something that made him feel good about himself, as though he were conquering something new every day. Chalchi and Teo were out next to him. They'd done a bit of a different course that included some aquatic obstacles for the Water-types in the class, as it would have been a pretty huge oversight to not allow them to train alongside their classmates. "You guys did awesome!" Jacob said proudly, resulting in a smile and a happy cry from both Teo and Chalchi. The Trainer-in-Training then looked across the room, spotting Danielle. Well, this is as good a time as any, he reasoned. He took out his Poke Balls, which he had spent some time decorating the previous night with the Ball Capsules he'd packed from home. He laughed looking at them, remembering how mad his dad had gotten when he found out the then-13-year old Jacob had used his credit card to get six of the devices, but had relented upon realizing how serious his son was about becoming a Pokemon Trainer. The seals were meticulously arranged. Even though he wasn't a Coordinator, Jacob knew that having style was an important aspect of battling. He eventually stopped marveling at the Capsules and hit Chlachi' return button, causing her to disappear in a flash of light. Jacob walked over to Danielle, followed closely by Teo, and greeted her cheerfully. "Hey, Danielle. You ready to head off for dinner yet?" -

Let's just say there were some pretty high-intensity lights in that utility room back at base EDIT: By that I mean industrial size halogen lights (think police search lights) -
Jory looked to his left and to his right. All around him, people were being threatened because of a mistake that he and his partner had made. He felt only the sting of failing his squad. He then gave Kenny a meaningful look. Even though I didn't order Eve to use Dig, I should have been more specific when I gave directions to Kenny. We both should have realized what digging those tunnels would do. He took a single step forward, feeling as though he was stepping over the edge of a cliff. "General McCarthy, sir," the cadet said loudly. "I would be immensely surprised if Staff Sergeant Surge were able to tell you what happened to the tarmac." He gulped, hoping he was not stepping out of line. "If you want to know what happened here, question me. I believe that I will be the most capable of providing you with an accurate report." He stood stiff as a board, awaiting a response from the General.

Jacob stifled laughter as Ryan came over, apparently determined to let the whole world know just how gay he could be. However, Jacob's attention was drawn away from Ryan by Avis, whose keen interest in him was making Jacob a little bit wary. I'm really glad Danielle's okay. If anything had happened to her because of me, I don't think I would have been able to handle it. All the same, I hope Avis isn't going to attack me. After all, I created a dangerous situation for her Trainer, the young man thought to himself. Teo joined Glacien, Feroces, and Corona, gurgling something or other at the other Pokemon. I'm glad they all seem to be getting along. And having Ryan here is nice. Takes the pressure off me a little, he thought to himself, glad for the interruption. He pressed the release button on Chalchi's ball, causing her to appear in a flash of light. The young man sat on her shell, sighing in relief as he got off his feet after the intense battle. "Lap?" Chalchi said inquisitively. Her Trainer simply sighed and leaned against her neck, not wanting to talk for the time being. Then, he noticed the Murkrow. Avis had nudged Danielle and given her a wink, then looked toward him. Oh, crap, I've been made.... he thought, groaning inwardly. That Murkrow was trying to tell Danielle the one thing Jacob didn't want her to know. However, she seemed to be distracted by Ryan's Pokemon. He saved the day again, Jacob thought, relieved that he wouldn't have to fully confront his feelings for Danielle just yet. He gave the Murkrow a knowing look and made a pleading gesture with his hands, inwardly begging the bird Pokemon not to tell Danielle. -

Jacob returned Danielle's hug, blushing profusely the entire time, particularly after she winked at him. After hearing Shiro's outburst, he decided that it might be better to allow him to blow off some steam after whatever had caused that reaction. Before he went with Danielle, he stopped by Shiro for a moment. He paused awkwardly, then put his hands up in a "don't shoot the messenger" gesture. "Hey, Shiro, I hope you'll be able to forgive me. I never intended for Danielle to run onto the battlefield like that. And I just want to say that all of our Pokemon wanted to battle. Sometimes they get hurt and sometimes we do, but ultimately it's about building the bond between a Pokemon and his Trainer. It's not about winning or losing; it's the friends you make along the way that count the most." That said, he continued on his path. He then walked over to Nurse Joy with Danielle, still carrying Teo in his arms. After Danielle was done asking Nurse Joy her various questions, Jacob returned Teo to his Poke Ball and handed the nurse both of his, nodding his thanks quietly as his thoughts began to wander. That almost became really bad. I'm lucky that Teo and I used to practice that move with the other kids in the Dreamyard, otherwise I might not have been able to cancel it. But, realistically, it wouldn't have become so dangerous if Danielle hadn't run into it... That reminds me, I should probably tell her when to meet me. Suddenly, Jacob got an idea that he thought Ryan would heartily approve of. He turned to Danielle, tapping her on the shoulder to get her attention. "Hey, Danielle, why don't we get dinner in the cafeteria together later? You can explain everything to me there," he said, smiling at the girl. -

I'd almost say this is the most important sticky for one reason: If someone isn't good at RPing because he/she is new and learns better by doing than by reading, that's one thing entirely. It's difficult for that to actively detract to an RP, whereas someone who does not know the proper etiquette can be Shakespeare himself and be unpleasant to RP with if his posts are ill-timed and detract from each player's planned narrative.
