"Hi! We're the allied guard, we officially decline your request to surrender." She declares loudly as she approaches the knight. Naomi's eyes flare with energy, and light from her tome begins the encircle her. Shaping the light with her hands, the light forms the large gaping maw of a monstrous lion. The knight chucks a javelin towards her, but it disintegrates as it comes in contact with the light. As quickly as it forms, it lunges forward swallowing the knight whole. Then slowly, the light dissipates into the sky, leaving behind the knights dead body on the floor. "We won't be taking prisoners either." Naomi giggles, gathering the leftover light with her burned hands and forming a shield. "Let's get moving slowpokes!"

Rhian side-eyed the light mage. She agreed with the request for action, but nobody that gleeful about killing could be trusted. She'd have to bring up her concerns with Johanna later. For now, though. . .

 

"Alright, you traitorous bastards, do a good enough job of pretending to be dead and I might not make you that way for real!" She strode forward, drawing back the string on her new bow.

 

S9, shoot mage

Kris shook her head at Naomi's actions before moving towards the other knight and pulling out the new tome she got before leaving. Opening it up and flipping through it a bit (those who actually knew how to use tomes may notice that she had the whole thing upside down) until she closed it and gave a sigh and pointed her finger at the Knight and let out a "Bwa hahahaha" as she launched an orb of darkness at the knight.

Arming her new greatbow, Rhian looses an arrow that pierces the mage's robes. Though they're heavily injured, they manage to retaliate with a bolt of lightning.

The expression on Johanna's face might have been unreadable, but after the announcement and during the journey, Ceridwen's was very much readable. Shock, uncertainty, and being worried thoroughly sick were the ones usually visible at any given moment in time, with Ceridwen sticking close to her dragon apparently for some level of comfort, but there were occasional shocks of outright fear visible when her thoughts turned to the darker -- especially after news came of the collapse of one of their defensive points. Her home was under attack like it had never been during her lifetime, by people who were supposed to be their allies. Were they failing? What would happen? It was on the Allied Guard's shoulders, maybe. But that didn't make it any less terrifying -- moreso, really. She couldn't afford to give it anything but her all.

 

And of course, there was the matter of the "prominent Mid-Wing Commander" that had been captured. Her mentor, and the nearest man she'd ever really had for a father, was a Mid-Wing Commander -- and while there were quite a few of those, prominent ones, commanders prominent enough to cause a morale drop, was a smaller category. Gareth was too clever to get captured, right...? Right? Right?

 

But Ceridwen, of course, was still worried.

 

Now that she found herself at the gates of the enemy castle (and boy, what did this being an enemy castle mean for the future...? She'd barely been able to think about it)-- Ceridwen shook her head. She didn't have time to get distracted now. Now... now was when it counted most.

 

Ceridwen set her face grimly.

"I won't let them do this."

 

And she advanced.

 

Ceridwen moves to S10 and stabs Mage 1 with the Iron Javelin.

Unfortunately, perhaps Ceridwen was more distracted than she had thought. Her javelin just skims the air beside the mage, who proves more slippery than she'd expected. There's only a moment of foreboding static in the air before a blast of thunder magic, designed for piercing the tough scales of dragons, strikes her, knocking her out instantly.

As a healer, Verden feels very much "along for the ride" in this battle. His eyes take a look around, seeing the result of each individual clash and habitually noting who's been hurt, how badly they've been hurt, and who would need medical attention sooner or later. Watching Ceridwen get taken down almost immediately from a very unlucky trade of blows garners an "eep!" from him, followed by a muttered curse as he realizes he can't quite get close enough to help with that. Better do the next best thing instead...

 

Verden moves to T7 and uses his heal to patch up Kris's wounds. At the same time, he speaks out loud, although mostly to himself.

 

"One of us down already... that is not a good sign. Depending on how many enemies there are in this castle, I might not be able to keep up with everyone's injuries..."

Every rider learns the dread of the crack-boom that resounds from nearby thunder magic. She instinctively turns in her saddle, just in time to see the bolt of lightning crash down on Ceridwen and Yn Ddidderol without mercy.

 

"Ceridwen!"

 

Damn it, damn it. Not good. This was not at all good. She hasn't been oblivious to the growing consternation in the other rider in their weeks on the march, but had thought she would be able to gather her wits for the storming of the castle.

 

But now is the time to take action, not berate. "Rhian." Idriss descends as a massive shadow beside the armored archer, and she extends a hand. "Climb up for now. Clear for some cover." She calls back over her shoulder. "Someone, finish the job!"

Rhian was somewhere between flinching and rolling her eyes at the sound of the spell lancing out again. Of course the idiot rider gets herself zapped out the sky; had she really managed to forget something that basic? She shifted as she felt the wind of Idriss's landing beside her. The knight wasn't expecting the hand offered to her, however, and a strange expression crossed her face before she took it. Hoisting herself up, she settled into a seat behind Johanna on the dragon without any further assistance. eyes watching the enemy forces. . . or at least trying to. She couldn't help but glance downward at the beast beneath her. She wouldn't be able to land any shots from up here, so Rhian simply held her bow in a strong grip, preparing for takeoff. Her free hand idly rubbed at the dragon, trying to reassure Idriss in the face of hostile thunder magic, not that she believed he needed it.

Fallon's vision went dark as the shot of lightning knocked Ceridwen and her dragon to the ground with a sickening thud. In an instant, he was no longer on the battlefield. He was crawling out of the ravine in the Wastes, blind and broken, but alive through nothing more than sheer determination.

 

The spirits that gave him his power were almost deafening with their madness, screaming that once again, he had failed. It would be better to just give himself over like they wanted...wouldn't it? He'd never have to see something like this again, would never have to die again, would never have to lose everything again...

 

Then a man's sneering face appeared as if to mock him, it's red hair dangling almost close enough to touch. No. He couldn't give in now...there was still too much to be done. "Valentine." he muttered as he regained his vision. The closest person to him was heavily armored, and before he could stop himself, he ran towards the figure and delivered a much stronger blast of magic than he had before. "DIE!" was all he could think to say before he finally regained composure.

 

Maybe Naomi was right and he was a crazy old man, he thought amusedly as the knight was completely enveloped. But was that really such a bad thing if it kept him going?

 

T9, Flux Knight 2

 "Ceridwen! Ah, this is problematic. I'm coming, friend!"

Michi surges forward with their gargantuan frame, tome in hand, armor moving like water despite its heavy appearance. Their wits had been elsewhere, owing to their last engagement, for a while. Unlike most of the others, however, Michi had easily gathered themselves. 

 

A true Wilhelm never faltered in the face of adversity, Michi had grown up learning, after all. And this was, indeed, another obstacle for Michi on the path of greatness.

Dulcibella rests silently upon her horse. Her thoughts are spinning all over the place; their previous battle, the fate of the prisoners, her promise with Argos... It’s only the frenzied scream of “DIE!” from Fallon that jerks her back to reality. Briefly examining the battlefield (and muttering a halfhearted prayer for that knight), Dulcie moves forward and attacks.

 

Dulcie moves to [S, 9] and 360 noscopes the archer kid.

"Oh phew, I should have never doubted my father in the first place!" Argos let out a sigh of relief before it was cut off by the sound of roaring thunder.

 

Ceridwen had just been struck down while he was Lilly gagging worrying about things that weren't important to the task at hand. Argos was filled with rage towards himself and to the enemy party. How could he have let this happen? He knows they got into a heated fight two weeks ago but she was still his comrade. There's no way in hell he's gonna let her die here!  "Rggghhh! You bastards! Get away from her!" Argos unveiled his wooden sword from his back before charging at the other thunder mage. I suppose not having a drake has its perks for situations like these.

Naomi crouched down, blocking her ears as the loud thunder came down. "Ow. Why does thunder magic have to be so loud." She rubs the back of her head as she gets up, and then sights Ceridwen and her mount fallen. She gasps, hands instinctively covering her mouth. "How dare you! Now, you are all done for!" 

 

She runs through the commotion of her allies, into the hallway. Naomi switches her tome, with the one in her bag. The brand new tome, still with the new book smell opened and began to release it's energy. On the first page there was a quill, and with it Naomi wrote in the book Gross Evil Sword Wielding Humans. The book shone brighter, now with a target in mind. Hand outstretched forward, aiming a magical beam at the Myrm, Naomi shouted. "How dare you hurt an innocent dragon!"

Verden waits for a good opportunity to move in, sensing the tide of battle shifting to accommodate the fall of two party members already... The path is clear, time to move. He swiftly swoops in to S9, taking a look at Ceridwen. His eyes close for just a second, and once he feels confident enough to follow through with his movement, he grips the healing staff tightly with one hand to cast a Heal onto Ceridwen. With his free hand, he crouches slightly and offers her a (hopefully encouraging) smile and a hand up.

 

"An unlucky start to this battle, I will admit... still, don't let that hinder you. Just let me know if you need some more healing once everyone's back on their feet, alright?"

Kris rubbed her head after Verden healed her. She was rather annoyed that she didn't dodge the spear these weapons around here where mean they weren't even helping her or anything. It was making it hard for her to fight. Shaking her head in annoyance she moved over and stabbed at the swordsman who knocked Argos out.

She didn;t really know what to say. Really, there maybe wasn't anything to say at all. She'd gone in for something that should have been easy, messed it up, and then the others had to fill in for her screwup after the mage took her out instantly. That was... that really wasn't acceptable.
