It's probably a fact now at this point that I'm probably the biggest fan of Tales of Symphonia on the Earth, since I now own EVERYTHING Tales of Symphonia related, including all of the overly expensive figurines, blu-ray dvd's, posters, Japanese manga, Japanese novelization, wall-scrolls, and all versions of the game (including Japanese exclusive versions). Yes, I am a nerd, yes, I am a huge fan-boy who has plans to go to a Tales of Festival in Japan, and YES... I want to get my stuff autographed.

Currently, I am an Animator, Animation Director, Fan-Game Developer, Stage Actor, and Computer Science Major with a Secondary Major in Performing Arts.

Also... I don't like Pokeplayers. Fact.

Animation and voice acting directing work, down below:

  1. Here's a question I'm willing to ask to you: Is it dangerous that people see YouTubers as their "friends"?

I look at this not only from a psychological perspective (mostly towards children in this regard), but also from a "professional" one. In regards to the latter, I look at it in the same light as how a student-teacher relationship SHOULDN'T be. You should not make friends with your teacher, just like you shouldn't make friends with some guy on the internet making videos, who is pretty much playing up a funny facade for your retention and ad-revenue. It's a one-sided relationship in that regard. When it comes to children, which comprises a huge majority of the demographics there, it's not exactly a safe option for them, from a sociological standpoint, to treat their favorite YouTuber as their friend.

I could go on, but I'm mostly interested in how others feel about it, because it is a topic of debate that would be interesting to delve into more.

I think it kind of depends on which YouTubers and which viewers you're talking about. Mature people could easily distinguish the corporate YouTubers from YouTubers that make video's for fun and the balance between those two. Children (and some oblivious people) are more likely to form an obsession with YouTubers which is an unhealthy way of thinking in general.

Friends? It is hard to make friends in which you don't interact with so I'm not sure if the viewers sees them as friends. Even if they did , the one way street of content to viewers protects them pretty well.

Truth is a lot of people put up a facade for personal gains. Not only for bad reasons but they don't matter right now. So in fact being friends with a youtuber could be considered safer because the lack of interaction that could be abused.

Generally it's not very healthy to have excessive admiration/affection for someone who isn't even aware of your existence... depends on the Youtuber though. Some are genuinely nice people who take time to read the comments, show appreciation and thankfulness in their vids, and have a generally friendly attitude towards their viewers... there's no issue in liking these people and finding comfort in watching their vids.

Such pearls aren't that common though, and don't replace actual friends you can talk to.
