Log 3: A Toxic Partnership
After meeting with that most unpleasant being Fern, I decided my best course of action would be to check the Power Plant and see if Julia was there and ready to battle. She was leaving just as I was about to head in. She said that she was meeting a friend at the other factory in the city by the train tracks, and then extended the invitation. Seeing as this would be the fastest way to get her to battle me, I joined her. After blowing up the locked door (despite my offering to pick the lock), a new face and one face I would prefer never to encounter again showed up; Julia's friend Florinia, who spoke with a more monotone voice than Siri, and her brother, Fern. Why did it have to be Fern?
The entrance to the factory smelled like a sewage plant. It appeared that this was the major source of pollution in the lake around the city. There was water that was dyed purple from the toxins being dumped, almost the same color as a Muk. In an effort to cover as much ground as possible, we decided to split up into pairs. Julia and Florinia went together, leaving me with Fern. I wonder if the toxins in the water are enough to dissolve a human body...
The trek through the factory was grueling, fighting wave after wave of grunts. Apparently the organization that blew up the train station and was responsible for the poisoning of the lake is known as Team Meteor. An odd name for a group seemingly hellbent on ruining and killing the lives of innocents. Fern was still his normal self which made me want to shove his head in the machinery within the factory, but he at least proved himself competent enough to battle against these grunts. Fortune favored him though as the grunts we tore through their teams as they mostly consisted of weak rock types. This was also the first time I tested Shimmer's power in battle. She is strong. Very strong. She was able to both survive a lot of hits from the opponents, even the higher level admins, and able to deal quite a bit of damage. However, it seemed like she was... restricting herself, like she didn't trust herself enough to use her full power. It's somewhat understandable, not wishing to show her full strength with a trainer she doesn't trust. I must work with her, let her know that she's safe with me, in order to see what she is truly capable of.
We eventually made it to the center of operations in the factory, with Julia nearly destroying the building in the process. Extreme levels of caffeine and explosives do not work well together. It turns out that a major head of Team Meteor was there, however he did not give his name. Julia and Florinia fought him, while Fern and I fought two Admins named Aster and Eclipse. They worked nearly in perfect sync with each other, so it is my assumption that they are a pair and have some kind of history together. We eventually beat their surprisingly powerful Elekid and Magby, but to the Meteor Head's dismay. It turns out their plan was to make the city uninhabitable by poisoning the water. People would then be forced to relocate, and the train station explosion was done to prevent any others from coming in. It seems their plan requires the city to be empty, but what that plan is remains unknown. After they retreated, Julia used some explosives that were in the factory to destroy it. Fortunately, no one was harmed. Unfortunately, Fern was unharmed.
After this fiasco, there was finally time for Julia to battle me. Her gym puzzle was so simple it need not be called a puzzle at all. All that was needed was to lead Voltorb to gates and have them use Self-Destruct. This was required 4 times, each time requiring me to battle a trainer and wait about 5 minutes to get my hearing back. During the fourth trainer battle, Lilith evolved into a lovely Braixen. She still has the determined look in her eye she had when I first took her, but now there is also something else. She was constantly thinking. The look could really only be described as cunning. Again, I could tell she was smart when I first saw her, and do not regret doing so.
Julia's battle took place on an electrified field. It felt as though there was static in the air, like it could combust at any second. Ironically for her though, it both messed up her hair and did not benefit her team in any way. Teemo, Shimmer, and Lilith all proved very useful in this fight. Aero had problems, but it's understandable due to her type. Next gym will be Florinia, the grass trainer, so she should be able to show her true power there.
A big problem with her team was that there was very little diversity, which I suppose is a problem for Electric types. Most of her team relied on moves based off special attack, but none of them were particularly powerful. She opened with a Helioptile while I opened with Teemo. Knowing that most Electric types do special damage, Teemo set up Light Screen, which made some of her Pokemon do next to no damage on mine. Her team consisted of her Helioptile, two Voltorb, Emolga, Blitzle, and her ace, Electrode. Helioptile and Emolga were the only multi-type Pokemon on her team, so she proved not to be much of a challenge. Teemo's Screen, Shimmer's raw power and ability to take hits, and Lilith's power and cunning were just enough to take her out. Maybe if she thought more about her team composition, she'd fare better. Perhaps a Magnemite or a Joltik or a Chinchou, just something so she can actually prove to be a threat.
And I was again proven right about Lilith's intelligence and ability to think on the spot. The battle came down to her versus Julia's Electrode. Lilith smiled as she missed her Ember attack, hitting the floor instead. Even I wasn't sure what she was planning to do. But as the ground heated up, Electrode started moving more erratically, seemingly in pain. It eventually started rolling directly at her. She ran into it using Flame Charge to knock it into the air and hit it with an Ember while airborne. The extreme static electricity the air combined with the fire caused Electrode to explode and then faint, thus scoring us the win. Lilith tried to get away, but was still knocked back by the force of the explosion. Fortunately I was able to catch her, getting knocked down in the process. She was a little banged up, but was still conscious, and she looked up at me with a smile that could only be taken to mean "thanks."
Julia gave me the badge as well as the TM for Charge Beam. The special attack buff may prove useful, so I'll see if Teemo can make any use of it. The next open gym is over to the east of the Grand Hall, in the Obsidia Ward, where I will be going against Florinia unless something comes up. But first, there was an annual festival going on. Not exactly sure why, but it turns out Julia, who generally enjoys any kind of explosion, is also a skilled pyrotechnic, as she put on a rather lovely fireworks show. Thinking it would be a pleasant way to celebrate our victory over both Team Meteor and Julia, my team and I stayed and enjoyed the show. Or, most of us did. Teemo and Shimmer both seemed captivated by the fireworks, but poor Aero, she did not want to be let out of her Pokeball during it. She has very sensitive hearing, so I really can't say I blame her. Lilith was less interested in the show and seemed happier just to be with me outside of her Pokeball and not in battle. She's more than a partner to me; she's a very dear friend now.
Another log done, dang these things take a while. All the major events from my playtime today are chronicled in my character's monologue above. I did embellish Lilith in the final battle a bit since that couldn't happen, but it makes it much more entertaining to both write and read I hope. Thanks for reading.
No new team updates, but Lilith got upgraded and I couldn't be happier. I absolutely love the entire Fennekin line.
Lilith
I think she looks lovely. Anyone who says otherwise is both rude and wrong.
And for anyone who forgets, there is a roll call in my signature of the team I'm using.
