How powerful is the mind? (Psychic/Ghost run)13
Another Felix replied to Another Felix's topic in Team Showcase
Log 7: What are they teaching? Florinia's gym turned out to be located within a school in the Onyx Ward. A Trainer's School. Something I've always wondered about schools like these; what's the point? Yes, they teach you about battling, but battling also teaches about battling. And what exactly is this preparing someone for? Is "Professional Pokemon Trainer" that profitable? I'm doing this journey to prove myself, not make a career out of it. I went into the gym entrance and was met with the most unpleasant sight. Fern. Not the plant, as those are lovely when taken proper care of. No, the self-proclaimed Swag Jockey was there too. He called me a loser despite being a significantly worse trainer than I and said I was unworthy of challenging his sister. She probably stopped giving a damn about this runt years ago. He locked me out of the gym entrance, so I had to go through the school. Most of the students there battled me, saying they were under orders from Fern to defeat me. Like the child with the wealthy parents, he's likely only able to have that much power since his sister is the gym leader. Oh well, free training and experience for my team. There were two trials to get into Florinia's battle arena. The first was what the students referred to as "The Gauntlet." Such a menacing name for what equated to a few battles and quiz questions about Pokemon. There were a few computer screens which bore questions that I needed to answer in order to unlock the door. There were many books in shelves located throughout the school that contained the answers to the questions needed. Reading the books and memorizing the answers was the only way to proceed since my phone couldn't get a signal to access Bulbapedia. Teemo actually proved to be quite the research assistant though. We gathered all the books we would need, and it turns out he's a speed reader. He quickly found the answers to a few of the questions while I found the rest. Some Pokemon can read apparently. I'm still glad they seem to like us enough to not overthrow humanity and destroy all who lay in their path. The second trial was both easier and harder than the quiz. Easier because it was just a battle, harder because I had to battle Fern. That resentful pain in my rear stood no challenge. Lilith and Aero once again beat him with no trouble. Although it was a useful battle, as Lilith, using her innate Psychic power combined with her Ember attack and other Fire powers, learned Fire Spin to trap and hurt Fern's team. and Aero grew stronger too, her Gust move becoming the significantly more powerful Air Cutter. Fern fell quickly, then claimed I was still worse than him and that if I could do it, then he could do the League challenge better. He then left to go start his own journey. Good, hopefully I'll see less of him. The gym battle took place in a large lecture hall before a mass of students. She apparently uses her own battles to teach the students about preparedness. Florinia's nickname was the Desert Rose, so instead of trying to have a Grass team based around sun, she based hers around sand. It's odd. Most Grass types don't gain any significant benefit from a Sandstorm. But than again, if she had a Sun team, her weakness to fire would only be compounded. She lead with her Maractus. Knowing it to have many similarities to a normal cactus plant, I sent out Aero to try and beat it from a distance. Air Cutter really did prove damaging on her team, especially Maractus. It hurt so bad that Florinia actually used both Super Potions she had on it. But it wasn't enough to save it from Aero. Her next Pokemon was a Ferroseed. I can see how this Pokemon would be good in a sand-based team, but it still fell very quickly to Lilith's Fire Spin. Breloom came out next, but I sent out Shimmer instead of Aero. I actually spent some time with Shimmer to heal up Aero, but it proved unnecessary as Shimmer took care of Breloom quite admirably. Her Cacnea however, proved to be a greater danger. Its Pin Missile move became stronger within the Sandstorm, and it took out Shimmer quickly. Lilith sealed the deal though. Her final Pokemon was her ace, Cradily. That thing proved to be a massive threat, nearly knocking out the rest of my team. This was her only Pokemon that was actually able to whip up a sandstorm, so building her team around that weather didn't really prove effective. Unfortunately, it took down both Slink and Teemo before they could do much, but Teemo did use Covet to swipe its item, which helped us (I returned it after the fight.) Aero went out again and got very lucky. She got a Psybeam off which confused it and caused it to miss some attacks. Aero was able to capitalize off this by landing another Psybeam which significantly hurt it, but was then taken down by a rock from Cradily's Smack Down. Lilith was my last teammate remaining, so I sent her out even though she was at a type disadvantage. She took some damage from the sandstorm. She actually tried something risky and tried to use Fire Spin to block the rocks. It slowed the rock down, but it still hit her pretty hard. Cradily used Sandstorm again to heavily stir the field up. Lilith blind fired her Psybeam into the center of it, which hit something and caused a massive dust cloud to form. Both Florinia and I shielded our eyes from the burst. When the dust finally settled, her Cradily was unconscious and Lilith was barely standing with a very proud look on her face. The referee declared me the winner, and the audience was stunned. Then they started clapping. Their teacher had just been defeated. Florinia acknowledged her defeat and gave me the Canopy badge, as well as the TM for Nature Power. She then asked one thing of me: To head to the Jasper and Beryl wards. They had both been taken over by the same floral infestation as Obsidia, and I had the most experience dealing with them and Team Meteor. There is also apparently a gym there, so that is to be my next stop. Actually got incredibly lucky and beat Florinia on my first attempt. Next stop, Jasper ward. -
In my regular run and my ongoing duo-type, it's Delphox. A lot of power, speed, and type coverage.
-
The next gym will be either Adrienn or Amaria. Truthfully, I think we may battle Amaria sooner, since Titania would have likely prevented us from fighting her if she was around.

Either out-zone her or keep the pressure on. I played against a really good Samus main and he was shut down by lasers and gyros. And reflecting her charge shot with a side b was the finishing blow. She has an insanely good juggle game and a ridiculous Up B out of shield, so be very wary when running up to hit her. -
It gets Gear Grind at level 16 and Shift Gear at level 54. That could be a problem for you unless you're willing to either use a lot of common candies or training a new one. If you have ditto, you can breed it instead of using common candies.
-
The only buff Draven needs is to become more fabulous.
-
I believe the next is Noel, so Get a Steel Type from Shade's Gym. I personally recommend Klink and evolving it into a Klinklang due to Gear Shift (+attack & speed) and Gear Grind (Double hitting Steel move)
-
A lot gets changed between episodes. That's why you're supposed to save in a Pokemon center or something.

Log 6: Taking care of the day care I may be here to prove the power of the mind and thus should have strong willpower and be very goal-oriented, but I can't turn a blind eye to those in need. With the forestation cleared, I continued exploring the ward, seeing if there was anyone else in any danger or trouble. Someone told me about the Day Care couple, who normally took in Pokemon and raised them for trainers. I've heard stories about some unscrupulous trainers using the day care as a way to forcibly breed Pokemon for better moves and stats, but that seems to go against any sense of human decency. But currently the Day Care couple was accepting Pokemon, but wasn't returning them. This sounded highly suspicious and quite obvious, so I took the time out to go pester them. They seemed like a normal old couple at first glance, but that guise was quickly shattered as they seemed to recognize me. They grew visibly frustrated as I wouldn't leave, and eventually revealed themselves to be members of Team Meteor who I had beaten at the Peridot Factory. What a surprise. I did enjoy their brief introduction though. We beat them again and they told me their plan was to impersonate the couple so they could steal the Pokemon of trainers. Seeing as how they've already flat-out stolen Pokemon from trainers, why the ruse? They said they hid the couple in a warehouse, but they had hidden the key someplace else and quickly fled. Aero jumped out of her Pokeball upon hearing this and began sniffing the area. She had me follow her nose to a small house inside the park, where the key was stashed. She may not be able to see, but her nose is quite the efficient sightseer and pathfinder. The only warehouses I knew of were in the Coral Ward, so I took the key and went to see if I could find them. While walking down there, a wild Spoink began bounding around the area, including on top of my head for some reason. Weird Pokemon, but there was a lot of Psychic power coming from it, especially the pearl on its head. Before I could catch it, it bounced away down south. I continued down there, hoping to both save the Day Care couple and catch that Spoink. There were multiple warehouses in the ward the key worked on. The first one opened had the Day Care couple. They told me that they learned what the Meteors were doing when they kidnapped them. It was also done to prevent them from allowing Pokemon to breed. Wait, they actually allow the forced breeding to occur? Ugh, maybe I shouldn't have intervened. They told me that they would be glad to take care of any Pokemon I wished. There is absolutely no way I'd ever even think of putting my partners in their care. Another warehouse was full of cages. There was a single Meteor grunt in there, saying, yet again, that they were transporting the stolen Pokemon from the day care scam. He ran quickly, muttering one about him missing one. The place was completely cleaned out of Pokemon, so they must have already sent them away. As I was about to leave, I heard a small whimper. It came from a Happiny that had hidden behind some crates and was looking for an opportunity to escape. I took it with me and put it in the PC to be cared for by the Professor since it didn't fit the requirements for my team. Hopefully I'll be able to find its original owner, otherwise I'm sure my sister would love to have it. There was only one other warehouse the key opened. This one was just full of empty boxes. I heard a noise when I entered the building, so I checked behind some of the boxes in there. The Spoink from earlier jumped out as I examined one. It seemed like it was just having fun and had landed on my head to see if I would play with it. Apparently the game was hide & seek. It bounced over to me and landed on my head yet again, but this time stayed still as I threw a Pokeball at it. Spoink stayed in with no resistance. So it wanted to come with me... cool. Probably hoping that whatever adventure I'm going on will be fun to partake in. I named her Slink and am looking forward to using her in battle. Short one today. Going to do the Trainer School & Gym in the next log. Slink I know Spoink/Grumpig aren't great, but it's better to have a full team than to not. -

Yeah. He beat me 2-0. But I did take some stocks. Lost in the loser's bracket to someone named CWS, Duck Hunt player. Need to practice against that character. -

Well, came in fifth. Lost to Dabuz. -
The battle is much easier if you don't save them. Corrosive Mist is a pain in the ass.

Going to enter a small tournament in an hour. Wish me luck -
Are there any specific conditions needed to get the Spoink event? When does it happen?
-
When and where is the Spoink event? I know it's in the Obsidia ward, but is there a specific time of day I need to find it?

An incredibly unreliable but fun team

Dammit, this was banned in OU? That blows. Oh well, can try to make a decent mono-normal out of the base. -

Log 5: Too much power The Coral Ward was a depressing sight. Nothing but broken ships, jobless sailors, and a clear view of the toxic lake. I met someone named Amaria down there, who is one of the highest ranking Reborn League Gym Leaders. She seemed nice enough, but I am looking forward to besting her in battle. She was down there trying to save an Oshawott, who was stranded on the island with the lighthouse. Coincidentally enough, Cain came by and heard about the Oshawott. He used his Grimer to cross the poisoned water and save it. Even though he is a poison trainer, he did decide to keep the Oshawott, and quickly challenged me to a battle to help it get accustomed to his team. We won easily. Amaria had been in the area to help clear the floral problem. She had only gone down to the Coral Ward upon hearing the stranded Pokemon's cries. I met up with her and Florinia at the entrance to the park whee the plant outbreak started. Florinia gave me the HM for Cut, which was fortunately modified from its original state so that Pokemon could forget the move without any help. The only members of my team who could learn it were Lilith and Teemo. I decided to teach it to Lilith and have her forget Howl, as that move was pretty useless on someone like her that rarely attacks physically. She seemed happy to be helping me as she cut down some small trees, allowing access to the park. Amaria and Florinia entered the park first, which proved to be a massive problem. They were quickly muffled and snared by wild vines. Inside the park was a large machine with a Tangrowth strapped inside and someone wearing a Meteor uniform. They introduced themselves as Zero, Eve, and Lumi, and called themselves ZEL. Multiple Personality Disorder, a rather interesting mental issue. They claimed that they and Team Meteor were the ones responsible for causing the plant outbreak. The machine was called a PULSE and it amplified the Tangrowth's natural power. As both the gym leaders were unable to battle and the useless police force wasn't showing up, it was up to me to battle that creature and stop this pointless attack. ZEL sent out the Tangrowth immediately to battle. It somehow mutated due to the machine, becoming twice as large with more vines covering it that one could possibly keep track of. Knowing it to be a Grass type, I sent out Aero first. Although her Gust attack was powerful, it still felt like she was hitting a brick wall. She was able to dodge most of the attacks from it, and fortunately resisted the few that did. What truly shocked me with how she fought this was by diving straight at it, jaw first. This Heart Stamp seemed to cause more visible pain to the Tangrowth as a few of the vines withered and fell off. Somehow, the machine also made it a Poison type. That actually worked to my benefit. Aero did unfortunately go down to a Mega Drain, so I sent out Lilith to finish it. She started by using Ember, hoping to burn it. Unfortunately, it shrugged the flames off with little trouble. Frustrated, but not defeated, Lilith showed off a move I hadn't even been aware she learned. Her eyes glowed blue as she fired a beam made of multi-colored rings at the hulking beast. I knew she had a strong mind and will, but to master Psybeam when not being a Psychic type is an impressive feat. The lumbering monster became confused from the beam. It stumbled over some new vines that had sprouted and fell to the floor, knocking itself unconscious and reverting back to its normal state. ZEL released the Tangrowth from the machine and quickly retreated before I could do anything to them. The overgrowth of plants quickly receded, including the vines ensnaring Florinia and Titania. With the plant outbreak taken care of, Amaria left for the Grand Hall and Florinia for her gym, where she would be waiting for me. It may make me a bad person, but I enjoy beating gym leaders, and I believe in my team and that their ready for her. Short update today, wanted to get something done. Beat the first PULSE, on my way to the second gym. Thanks again for reading. -
As a Nunu main, that's a possibility.

I agree, but I think you should've boxed the champ right above the one you did.

Fear the You Are DeadMau5! My basic mindset was to put them to sleep with Smeargle, use Shell Smash to buff attack, special attack, and speed, then Baton Pass out to someone who could better cover their team. So either Excadrill or Loppuny if I need physical damage, Lopunny is also Mega, so Fighting and Normal will hit Ghost types, thus taking care of a big weakness. Or the real reason I created this set, switching to Exploud to do some massive damage. Boomburst is perhaps the single most damaging move with zero downside, other than not being learned by many. 140 power, 100 accuracy, and STAB. Exploud has a surprisingly high special attack and decent health, but poor defenses and speed. The Shell Smash buffs him to have a better speed and even higher Special Attack. The other moves are there simply for coverage. As for Dusclops and Rotom Wash, they're pretty much just some cover Pokemon with good moves and power behind them. Especially good for burning others.
