  1. Was skimming what happened in the Treehouse thing at E3, there's a couple new Pokemon but then suddenly Excuse me, WHAT? Is this just referring to raid battles? Please tell me Dynamax Pokemon sometimes attacking twice is limited to raid battles... EXCUSE ME, WHAT?
  2. Who would have guessed a pair of random Meteor Grunts would be the hardest thing I've faced in that run

  3. Looking at the website, it confirms something that the Direct only implied: That Dynamaxing is only allowed in specific battles in the game. The screenshots show it being used in a WiFi battle, so it is allowed in multiplayer in at least some form. The question is, will it actually just be allowed in WiFi battles, or will there be a "Dynamax battle" mode or something like that? Metagame-wise, it makes all the difference between "lol no one will care about this" to "lol Z-moves are obsolete because of this" This also means that when you mod Reborn for gen 8, you'd have to add a "can you Dynamax" flag for every single area in the game. Unless you just don't add Dynamaxing of course. I don't want to make any assumptions before the game comes out but it seems like 3 turns of higher stats and ultimate moves would be too good for Reborn.
  4. Pre-direct, I wasn't really feeling this gen. I didn't like any of the starters, but that isn't really a big deal until I see their final forms. I mean, I didn't like Popplio and yet its final form ended up being my second-favorite Pokemon ever. Post-direct, I like most of these new guys MUCH more. Especially Wooloo and Corviknight. Only one I really don't care for is Eldegoss. A definite improvement in that area. Pre-direct, I was kinda miffed at what we could see of the level design. Among the many reasons Gen 5 is my least favorite, one of them is that the entire region is just a straight line from south to north. And look at the region map they revealed for this game! Guess what, it's ANOTHER straight line from south to north! Post-direct, well, it seems to be more complicated than that. From what I can tell, it looks like this game composes of several areas of "traditional" Pokemon level design, all connected by a big open-world-ish map which is CLEARLY influenced by Breath of the Wild. Is this an improvement? I'm... not sure. I guess it LOOKS better, but for all we know the Wild Area is just a big hallway from south to north, with roadblocks and pit stops at cities along the way. It looks like it could be from the footage they showed in the direct. Pre-direct, I really didn't like that they were STILL using the 3DS engine. It's honestly inconceivable. This is the same company that gave us Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild, and what does their other biggest franchise get? A recycled engine from a far inferior console? It looked good on the 3DS (most of the time) but on the Switch it looks like shit because everyone knows the Switch can do better. Post-direct, well, that hasn't changed. It's not gonna change. Pre-direct, and I know this was really speculation on my part, but I predicted they'd throw their previous mechanics in the bin for some new, probably dumber thing, and we'd still not get any more megas. Post-direct, hey look I was exactly right! In fact it's even worse than I predicted because Z-moves are getting shafted even harder than megas were. Why use a super-duper-ultimate move when you can have 3 whole turns of super-duper-ultimate moves and (probably) higher stats? I might actually count this as an improvement though, because I never liked Z moves anyway, between them and Dynamax I'd say Dynamax is less dumb. I still want more megas though, and while it's technically still possible... I really doubt it'll happen. (Disclaimer: I still really like Gen 7, it's one of my favorites. It's just that Z-moves are NOT among the reasons I like it.) So, did the direct improve my opinion overall? Marginally, yeah. But it's still a really, REALLY bad look to be reusing the 3DS engine. No matter how good the game ends up being, it'd be like if the original Super Mario Bros released on the SNES.
  5. PART 5: I GET BEATEN UP BY SOME SCRAGGIES EDIT: Added some rather important details that I somehow forgot the first time.
  6. PART 2: AN HOUR AND A HALF IN AND I ACTUALLY START PLAYING THE FREAKING GAME
  7. It's been a long time since I've been on this site, mainly because I've been busy IRL. But over the summer I have some spare time, and since Sega refuses to release Persona 5 on something other than the Playstation I felt like returning to this game to finally continue my 6th gen mono-run challenge. Only to find out it seems to have been automatically deleted at some point, probably due to me not updating it for so long. Well that sucks. EDIT: Turns out it's been archived, not deleted. I've already started this though so I'm going to finish my little experiment here before I restart it. So I decided to do something else. Now back when I was regularly active on this site, I had seen multiple people doing Eeveelution-only runs. It's hardly a new concept. However as far as I remember, all the threads I looked at involved people either using a mod to give themselves a full team of Eeveelutions at the start, or playing the game normally and only really beginning the challenge run at the point you can first obtain Eevee. I wouldn't exactly consider either of these "true" Eeveelution-only runs, as one feels like cheating and the other is, well, starting halfway through the game. I decided that was what I was going to do, a "true" Eeveelution-only run. The rules are simple: I use the Reborn Sandbox Mod to give myself a level 5 Eevee at the beginning of the game, as if it were my starter. From there, I'm only allowed to use Eevee and its Eeveelutions in battle. I'm allowed to catch other Pokemon for any non-battle purpose, like breeding, HMs, completing sidequests, and so on. Also I can't use the sandbox mod for anything else, though that should go without saying. And no trading with other players, that'd be cheating too. About fifteen seconds after I decided I would do this, I realized why I hadn't seen anyone else do it before. Under these rules, I won't be able to get any more Eevees until after I'd gone through the Mosswater Factory, defeated Julia, made it through the slums, fought the whole Scraggy gang, beat the first Pulse Tangrowth, and saved the daycare couple. All with one Pokemon. But I'm not one to give up so easily, I'm gonna still try this. However rather than a full-blown playthrough of the game, this will be more of an experiment, to see if it's actually possible feasible* to get that far in the game with just the starter Eevee. Maybe if I succeed I'll make it a full playthrough, I dunno. But for now, let's set up a plan of attack. PART 1: THE SETUP *It's certainly possible. It's possible to grind off of level 3 Bidoofs until you're such a high level you automatically win every battle despite the Pokemon not listening to you. But that's not feasible. It'd take years of nonstop grinding to accomplish.
  8. Dang, it looks like in my absence the thread for my 6th gen monorun got deleted or something.  I'm still gonna finish it tho

Thanks, I'll get around to it later.  Already started something else for now

I saw! Just wanted to let you know. 😛

  9. It sure has been a while since I've been here, huh.  Did Ame ever nerf the episode 18 gauntlet?

    1. Alistair

      Alistair

I wish. The gauntlet dwarfed all the other threats in that episode, Solaris and Hardy included. My boys don't deserve to look weak.

    2. Azeria

      Azeria

Hardy unironically gave me a harder time than the Gauntlet and on most other runs Solaris has dwarved them both lmao.

  10. If that thing's really the new Pokemon, it's a pretty underwhelming design.  You really want THAT as the face of gen 8, Gamefreak?

    1. Aessence

      Aessence

I honestly think it's more of a placeholder, as many before me have said. It is highly unlikely that that "thing" represents the final design for a Pokémon, be it Gen VIII or something else. Maybe they did this to elude dataminers...?

  11. After over 5000 deaths, I've finally 100%'d Celeste... wait whatdya mean there's a whole new set of even harder levels now!?

  12. So we're still going with episode 19 being the last one, huh.  I still think it should be split into two, the end of the story and then the postgame, but what Ame says goes.

      seki108

At least the game goes through at least three layers of testing, so it shouldn't be release as much a bug-ridden mess that doesn't seem to have ever been fully fixed, as the new parts in last release of Insurgence (which only lists two Alpha testers).

      Dreamy

It does make it into a nice "big finale" though. like, if the main story was finished in E19, hype for a postgame episode after that would probably be less than even that of a normal one.

      Maqqy

^That’s true. If the post game content is very big in bulk then it should be a separate content but I don’t think that’s the case. So it’s a good idea imo. Who knows we may have a surprise waiting for us hrmmm.

  13. lol it's been so long since I've had to change the title of my sticker guide I forgot I could actually do that

  14. Looking through this it seems you prefer bigger, softer, friendlier, and more aesthetically pleasing Pokemon; as well as rating serpentine Pokemon highly (unless they're made of rocks). Milotic's all of those things at once. 10/10 or 9/10 if you're afraid the lower scaly half won't be as good as the upper fleshy half.
  15. Wow, kinda hard to believe it's been a whole 4 episodes since we got a sticker. Anyway, the guide's been updated for episode 18! A new sticker, a raise in price for repels, and battle items have been pushed back to floor 8 due to becoming OP in Gen 7. That last part might have been a thing in episode 17 and I missed it, but whatever. Spoiler warning as always, but you probably should have guessed there'd be spoilers in a guide to a "sidequest" that spans the entire length of the game.
  16. Updated my sticker guide for the new episode!

  17. Don't wanna everyone's time making a thread about it since I'm not sure it's a bug, but this doesn't seem right...  Spolers btw.

    Spoiler

The girl in Agate City with the Pokedex quests.  When I talk to her after the first time she says "oh you have 100 Pokemon, lemme copy them down real quick..." and when I talk to her again she just repeats it.  Am I supposed to wait or something?  Because I've waited quite a while already and nothing's changed.

I figured.  I just wasn't sure if it was a known bug because I've seen people around here talking about the quest as if they got it to work.

Apparently there's a fix already, it's on Discord and this thread (not under spoiler tags):

I have a feeling I know exactly what you're referencing. I've lost to it many, many times.

  19. That blurred out gamemode better be a story mode.  It wouldn't be "Smash Ultimate" if it didn't have the absolute most-requested feature.
