  1. K but I think you got me confused for someone else, my gimmick is hateboner for Cain. I won't stand for being mixed up with some other shitty gimmick poster! But seriously good job on finally finishing the game, I've been a fan and part of this community since 2013 and even participated in beta a couple times (not this time obviously, I'm too old and busy now). Actually kinda sad to see it coming to an end, it's been part of my life for a not-insignificant amount of time. Also unfortunate that it had to end with the devs hating me, but the truth is I only ever said negative things about the game out of desire for the game to be better in those regards. I guess my autism made me come off as a "troll" or something?
  2. I wrote like a paragraph of how I personally feel like the game's story suffers from TL;DR syndrome a month ago, forgot about it, I come back, apparently it started a whole shitstorm and this guy in particular is still going off about it. Imagine if I had used 5% of my power
  3. Reborn's geared towards people who already have a good amount of experience with Pokemon, and is meant to be hard even for them, so you're already at a disadvantage. I strongly suggest you learn about EVs, IVs, natures, STAB, the field effects, held items, what abilities your Pokemon have and what they do, what moves they may have access to through breeding, all that stuff. It's technically not required to beat the game, but... if you think you're having a hard time now, you're still in the early game and enemies aren't even EV trained yet. It's gonna get harder. (EDIT: I just noticed that you mentioned IVs in your original post so you probably know at least some of this stuff. For IVs in particular, when a Pokemon you get has terrible ones you can press F12 to reload your save and try again) Rather than soft resetting for lucky crits, the actual intended way to beat Reborn is coming up with counterstrategies for the boss' strategies. Take Shelly as an example (yes I know you already beat her but still). Her Illumise always immediately uses Rain Dance and so you can't set her field on fire. It has Prankster, an ability that makes its status moves always go first, so you can't just outspeed and kill it before it uses Rain Dance. What's more is that the rain massively buffs her Anorith and Araquanid. But her Araquanid's her only Pokemon who resists water... and Rain Dance boosts water moves for ALL Pokemon, not just hers... what if you used that against her? For Anorith in particular, you have access to multiple Pokemon with Aqua Jet by this point and Anorith's actually weak to water, so you can kill it before it even gets a single Rock Slide off. Or what if you used Sunny Day after Rain Dance was set up? If you did that it would create a Rainbow Field, which you may or may not already know since the Rainbow Field effect readout is already available by that point in the game. So now Shelly's lost all the buffs her Forest Field gives her, AND it's Sunny which boosts Fire moves, and what if on top of all that you bring some Pokemon who can actually take advantage of the Rainbow Field? You'd wreck her. And of course as another guy said, setting up Stealth Rock early on cripples a lot of her team. Stuff like this is the way you're "supposed" to beat Reborn, not "I soft reset until the opponent misses all his attacks and I get five crits in a row." Of course, coming up with counterstrategies often means using Pokemon you haven't trained yet, meaning you'd have to train them, and... yeah it's grindy as hell sometimes. Supposedly the upcoming update makes it less grindy. Or you could, like the other guy suggested, use a mod to literally cheat in order to win. That's on you. Apparently the upcoming update also has cheat codes to remove all the difficulty or something. If it's any consolation, I wasn't much better than you when I first played. I remember raging at a certain boss' Pokemon always getting 5 hits on Tail Slap because I didn't know what Skill Link was, and just thought the AI was cheating. Edit: I feel like I should add at least one bit of advice more specific than "play smarter not harder", so here's an out-of-the-box strategy you probably never even considered: There's an alleyway in Peridot Ward where the wild Trubbish and Stunky have Poison Gas, and it's real easy to get your Pokemon poisoned. Facade is a TM you already have access to that a TON of Pokemon can learn. It deals double damage if you have a status effect. What if you intentionally got a Pokemon poisoned, ran to the boss, used healing items to keep that Pokemon's HP from dropping to 1, and healed it to full HP right before starting the boss fight? You'd have double power Facade without actually having to get hit with a status effect during the boss fight. What if the Pokemon ALSO had Guts for its ability? What if the Pokemon ALSO was Normal type? There's a Pokemon you can get right now who meets all of those criteria.
  4. So I've mentioned this in my nuclear monotype but I just wanted to repeat it here: Nuclear Houndour and Houndoom are bugged. Houndour is still Dark/Fire type, and while Houndoom is Dark/Nuclear he reverts to normal form at the end of every battle. Also, I feel like you should list the locations of the new items in your excel file as well. You list the mega stones and fossil locations, but not the evolution items, the Energy Core (yes I know I already have it but I'm talking about listing it for other people's benefit), or the Atomic Plate/Atomic Memory.

  6. I have officially reached the point in the game where being weak to every type is actually a problem

  8. So, the mods that add fakemon and altforms. They're gonna have to change all their sprites to fit the new format? Any coding changes that'll need to be done as well?
  9. So there's an issue with Vulpix and Ninetales: When they're nuclearized, their level up movepools completely disappear. Their TM and Tutor movepools are still intact though, weirdly enough. Might be a problem like this for some other Pokemon that I don't know of too.
  10. Oops, didn't realize. I had just looked at the choices at the beginning of the run and didn't even think to check if they had been changed since. And since Chimical is available much earlier in the wild than Flager, I think I'll just go with Tubjaw. Nevermind on the poll, I've already decided.
  11. Thanks for letting me know. Although your update seems to have broken the party icons for several nuclear Pokemon, making them appear as normal. As far as I can tell this happens to the Tonemy, Ekans, Tancoon, Baashaun, Growlithe, and Chyinmunk lines but there may be more. Chapter 3 Story section: Gameplay Section: The team so far:
  12. Lmao WUT?  I was soft resetting for a shiny Nidoran male and got one that was actually a female:

You really like the Uranium Mod, don't you?

    2. CURIE

      CURIE

You could say that.  Mainly I was frustrated by the fact that the Nuclear type was pretty much squandered in its own game (the Nuclear types not obeying you until the very end of the main story with the sole exception of Nucleon), and am glad there's finally a game where Nuclear types are actually usable.  Anyway, the post is fixed now.

  16. If you're involved enough in the fangame scene to be using this website, you've at least heard of Pokemon Uranium. While I enjoyed the game overall it had some... issues, the biggest of which in my opinion was the gross mishandling of its main "quirk": the Nuclear type. Almost all the Nuclear-type Pokemon are corrupted versions of already existing Pokemon, which sounds kinda cool right? Well too bad because the corruption has driven them mad and they won't listen to you, making them practically unusable. You can "purify" them later on and then they'll obey you, but by "later on" I mean only after you've got ALL the gym badges. By then, you've already got a team set up that you've been playing with the whole game, and with the story almost over you probably aren't inclined to grind up a new member just to try out the new type. There are a handful of "natural" nuclear Pokemon that will listen to you without needing to be purified, but most of them are, you guessed it, only available after you've beaten all the gyms. But now for some good news: @Fervis has made a badass mod (link here) that adds most of Uranium's fakemon, moves, and of course the Nuclear type to Reborn. And yes, the Nuclear-form Pokemon actually listen to you this time. He even made a bunch of Nuclear forms that weren't in the original, just because he's cool like that. So to make up for how underused the Nuclear type is in it's own game, I'll be attempting the first-ever Nuclear Monotype of Reborn. The (updated for episode 19) rules are: 1. The energy core that lets me nuclearize Pokemon is available very early on, only behind 3 required trainer battles (5 if you count Victoria and Cain at the start). I make a beeline for it, catch a Pokemon with a Nuclear form along the way, nuclearize that Pokemon, dump my starter in the box, and then the run really begins. 2. Only Nuclear-type Pokemon in battles. I can use other types of Pokemon for sidequests, HMs, breeding, etc. In the original Uranium the nuclear Pokemon were found already corrupted in the wild and couldn't breed, but in this mod you actively turn regular Pokemon into their nuclear forms. That means breeding is actually an option here. 3. The mod has debug enabled for testing purposes, obviously I won't use it.* *There was one point where a glitch deleted most of my Pokemon. I used debug to replace them. I don't really count that as cheating. I'm sure you'd feel the same way if a glitch deleted most of YOUR Pokemon! 4. The mod is an expansion of Plates of Arceus, which has a ton of side content and even its own separate storyline. I'm ignoring it for the most part. This is about Reborn the base game. As of the episode 19 update the mod is no longer an expansion of Plates of Arceus, but its own standalone thing. So this rule doesn't matter anymore. 4. I'll use the weathermod and easyHMs passwords for convenience, but not in any way that would affect the game's difficulty. That is to say, if a boss requires an HM move to reach (with no access to a PC to switch out an HM slave), then someone on my team has to be able to learn that move. Also, I can't set a weather condition that can't naturally occur in whatever area I'm in. *Bonus Points* I'll TRY to follow these, but if I get completely stuck and HAVE to break one to win, I will. *1* Play on set mode. *2* No items in battle. *3* Nucleon is banned because he's kinda broken. As of the episode 19 update Nucleon has been nerfed, so he's tentatively unbanned. If he still ends up being too OP I might re-ban him, who knows. I think that about covers it, so let's begin. I also considered making this one of those "fanfic" playthroughs that are popular on this side of the forums but realized that anything I wrote would probably be cringey and bad. Then I remembered this is the internet so I don't care! Chapter 1 And for those of you who care more about the game than my shitty fanfiction, I'll be adding a "gameplay section" to my updates. The team so far: And no, I'm not doing "character ratings".
  17. I'll upload part 1 of the Reborn Nuclear Monotype soon, I swear.... I just, wanna get an Owten for the team........ gonna get one any second now................ 300 headbutts and counting and still no Owten............................

    1. Dark Legend

      Dark Legend

Well, CURIE is a cool character from pokemon Uranium, so nice name.

  19. The nuclear forms you've added are missing something rather important: The actual Nuclear typing. It's like this for their evolved forms too. They can still learn the nuclear moves just fine though. On the subject of the nuclear moves, I disagree from a game design standpoint on moving them even farther back. I get that having them available from the start of the game is too strong, and I agree that they should be tutor moves rather than move relearner. But Water Treatment Center? When you reach the Tanzaan Depths you already have access nuclear moves through the "natural" nuclear Pokemon, so I don't see the point of witholding them from the altforms for another SIX badges. And while I get that in-universe it wouldn't make sense for the energy core to be just laying on the ground in the Grand Hall, I think it should still be available in the early game. I intended on doing Reborn's first Nuclear Monotype when the rest of the nuclear altforms were added, but the way it is now you can't get a single nuclear type until almost halfway through the game unless you cheat with debug. In other words, I suggest you put the energy core in the Mosswater Factory (makes more sense than the grand hall and still at the beginning of the game) and add the nuclear move tutor to where the energy core is now, in the Tanzaan Depths. Oh, and if/when you ever actually implement fallout then maybe it should be extended by the amplifield rock. Maybe make it an actual field instead of a weather condition?.
  20. You misunderstand, the void section’s fine. It’s what comes AFTER (and to a lesser extent before) that’s unacceptable. I could go in detail on why it doesn’t work and how it can be improved made less awful, but the truth is I already have elsewhere. I now see that the devs didn’t give a shit and think it’s “the best part of the game” and “masterful storytelling” as is, so I’m not gonna bother writing it all again here.
  21. Does Reborn actually suck and I’ve been in denial this whole time? I mean yeah the story sucks, I already knew THAT but I always was like “yeah but the game itself is really good… except for that one way-too-long cutscene near the end”. But after seeing this? Does this mean there’s gonna be even more hour long cutscenes in episode 19? Does this mean there will be EVEN LONGER cutscenes?
  22. Okay this one's actually badass. Such a small, unnecessary detail but SmeargleTail decided to put in the work to make it a reality anyway. Stuff like this is why I like the game despite some of the grievances I mentioned having in the previous thread. Edit: never mind, I just found out what andracass said about me in other threads. That’s unacceptable. I've been part of this community for almost a decade now, and yet when I write like a paragraph of mild criticism, I get that kind of treatment? SmeargleTail’s work is still cool though I guess
  23. My point is less “make him more relevant” and more “why even bother with the character in the first place, Reborn’s story is bloated enough as is”. And yet the devs seem to think the problem is that there wasn’t ENOUGH bloat!
  24. “We've taken old files into consideration, so if you are starting e19 from a completed e18 file, rest assured you will not be confused by missing their prior context!” This isn’t exactly the selling point you think it is. If this guy affects the story so little that old players “won’t miss any context” then that calls into question why he’s even there. There’s already too many major characters as is, all of whom you want to give their own story arcs. I guess it’s be one thing if this was side content only, but I doubt it is. Also “and the late game (read: that awful way-too-long cutscene in the glass factory) is not changing at all.” boo.
  25. It wasn't the patch, I downloaded the whole thing fresh. And I know it wasn't an outdated version because the party icons were changed to the nuclear forms. No idea what happened, but it doesn't matter now because the current version works as intended. Anyway, a couple other things I noticed: Glitch field doesn't change Nuclear Types to normal, it definitely should since Nuclear didn't exist in Gen 1. Quantum leap just attacks right away instead of doing what it's actually supposed to do, but I guess that's not exactly a pressing issue since Urayne is only available through debug. And on the subject that isn't Nuclear type for a change, the S-51ite isn't in the department store like the excel file says it is.
