Random Cold Steel thought #16: you know, Jusis makes a damn good point. Selflessness IS unnatural: every living being has a built-in survival instinct, so putting someone's well-being over your own is something extraordinary. Therefore, if you CONSTANTLY try to be selfless at all costs, you'll come off as arrogant, as someone who is just playing the hero to be praised.

Actually, altruistic behavior is present in virtually all social animals. It's self-propagating once it reaches a certain amount of spread in the population since typically altuism happens at a low relative cost to the giver and a high relative gain for the reciever. Being on both sides of these exchanges improves fitness.

Selflessness in the short term often leads to a stronger whole in the long term, while this idea also works, often time the supposedly selfless action is somewhat designed and enacted for the benefit of the one carrying out the action and their whole in particular through gratitude and a desire to return on a debt.

I finally got around to playing Skullgirls and... Well, while I don't particularly care for over the top plots and gore used for black comedy, I must say that, from a strictly mechanical point of view, it's got to be the best 2D fighting game I have ever played.

Random Cold Steel thought #15: Rean's interactions with Emma nver cease to baffle me. She isn't even TRYING to hide her true nature, yet this guy, who I remind you could see through an elaborate government conspiracy last chapter, now is somehow unable to see through some of the most painfully blatant lies I have ever heard.

Random Cold Steel thought #14: Angelica is a walking injustice. Smart, independent, strong-willed, carefree, open-minded, ridiculously hot, brutal in battle: pratically the perfect woman. And of course she just so happens to be lesbian, meaning she's not among the romantic options <.<

Random Cold Steel thought #13: level 14 Rean can actually dodge attacks from level 45 Sara, and land hits on her. Power of NG+, sure, but the fact that he is inherently OP must have played a role, too.

Random Cold Steel thought #12: since a tsundere heroine wasn't enough, now we get a tsundere cat.

Ok, as part of my "modern 5D's decks" idea, I finally figured out Aki, Leo and Luna, and also the Nordic trio while at it. However, now I am faced with an even bigger challenge: Carly. How the hell do you make a functional Synchro deck with friggin' Fortune Ladies?

Random Cold Steel thought #11: you know, it's funny. The game's main plot goes out of its way to push Alisa as the canon love interest, but when it comes to the bonding events, Emma is the one who has the explicitly romantic ones...

Random Cold Steel though #10: am I weird for finding the fishing minigame to be absolutely addicting?

Random Cold Steel thought #9: Claire's nickname is "the Icy Maiden", but she's so damn hot.
-
Random Cold Steel thought #8: while I appreciate that they would justify the existance of healing spots in-universe (they are apparently "charging stations" for the devices you use in battle), this does beg the question: who the hell installed such charging stations in deep forests, abandoned dungeons, underground cavers, and the likes?

The deck I ultimately made for Luna is a mix of her manga deck and Breo's anime deck. It does make use of the Chicken Game - AFD - Regulus combo, and it is lots of fun to use, so fuck Breo.

Update on the "modern 5D's" thing: made working decks for Aki and Leo. Now we get to the big problem: Luna. As you know my policy is "giving 5D's characters modern decks/archetypes that are fitting of their original strategy", but... WHAT THE HELL IS LUNA'S STRATEGY TO BEGIN WITH?

Kuribon is a terrible card, and Regulus... Well if there were ways to swiftly summon the guy and instantly tune, Regulus could be a decent card for field spell plays. Possibly in a Chicken Game - AFD combo: pay 1000, draw, destroy with AFD, regain 1000, bring another copy of CG, draw again, then recycle with Regulus?

So, just because I am a 5D's guy at heart, I am creating "modern versions" of the decks of 5D's characters. I other words, I am reimagining how 5D's would have been, if all the synchro-centric decks of that era had the support they have now. Like, Yusei with the new Synchrons, Crow with Assault BWs, and so on...
