Well thanks to Stratos, I now want to rewatch all the Star Wars Movies. It's been way too long.

Commander replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Tbh, I kind of want to now. I just moved Pokemon around from the reserve list (I don't know if that will still be a thing, but it helps in deciding) and it seems a Semi Mono normal would work for Luna. No Staraptor either. Not really sure what the second Pokemon will be, but I do know what the third Pokemon will be. Only problem with having Lickitung that early is that it has the crappiest starting movepool ever (but still a godly movepool). Seriously, Lick...that's it. That's all it can have to start to attack. -

Did you expect any less? This is Ymora after all. At least we've kept everything on topic so far. I've kind of haven't been thinking of anything really outside of team choices. For some reason, most of the Pokemon I want to use are normal types...except one. -
...Yeah for AI problems. That Cain fight is hard enough as it is so it doesn't need a Mega (not to mention he had a Haunter before). Truthfully, I kind of forgot about Fern having a Mega Sceptile. Truthfully, I thought you'd have more trouble on those two (I had a ton of trouble with Cain because he has type coverage and that Life Orb). But yeah, the future rival fights are a disappointment imo compared to these ones. Everything else I felt turned out great.

But why are you so keen on hiding the fact he doesn't really care about anything he does in life? It's not some super secret thing that must be kept secret and well hidden so that nobody can figure it out. Why_Not just flat out tell us instead of beating around the bush? It's not like someone won't find out in the first week anyways. It would've saved us all this trouble since it seems you planned this out well instead of making people highly concerned. -

What I underlined was the whole point of my post. What you are arguing in that post is nothing more than me saying "Bob likes oranges" in the personality. Tell me what kind of person Bob is? You can't. Now let's say that Bob likes Oranges because they're one of his most prized possessions he grows in his garden in the backyard. It's a jarring example, but at least you know Bob is likely a very dedicated gardener (probably giving the impression he's a hard worker). I suppose that it is true that there are always holes in characters before an RP starts, but yours is noticable as I couldn't really identify what type of character Ross would be...pretty much at all outside of laziness. It was food for thought when working on your character so you don't need to be so riled up. -

...You people and your bloody shipping math. Next thing you know, someone is going to play Hubba's love simulator to determine shipping probabilities. I'm definitely not the overprotective father like Strat and Huk though as I usually would just go with it HenryxRaiza OTP. And Darvan, not really anything you need to change in the app, it just feels like there are holes missing in the personality. For example, "Doesn't like arrogant or smug people." That really doesn't say anything at all about him. Nobody likes pricks in general. What about cowardly people? Do they fall into his hate group too? "Willing to lead if pressured or nobody else is up for it." Does that mean he's loyal or selfless? Also if he's lazy, is that the main reason he doesn't like being a leader? There's also the fact that Chim thinks it's a potential a-hole character, and I'm not sure if that's your intent. Personally, I think that's where he'd work, but more because he's a lazy head who probably doesn't care about much in life. It feels more like you're undecided what you want to do then a sporadic type personality. Kind of let a set type of personality sink in. -

Commander replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
I suppose I should explain the terminology behind this character for those who are new to Ymora. What Chim is talking about is a trait really revolutionized the Ymora RP and created a few fantastic interaction. Henry, the character I played, was pretty much the black sheep of all the characters in that past Ymora. What made him so unique was that he didn't try to be friends with people, in fact, he pushed them away, irritated them, even straight up wanting them to rage to enjoy their pain. He always was doing questionable things, willing to sabotage and conceal information from others all for his own benefit. He wasn't made to be likeable by the PCs (though everybody in the OOC enjoyed him for that). Henry wasn't the most well made character and had a ton of sueish qualities which is why I picked Citrine over him. There's a lot of suish or dark things I'd have to still include in the story to keep Henry the way he is. The backstory wasn't what made him an enjoyable character though, but the fact he was so different from the norm. I'm still hesitant to revive the OG a-hole back, but...it kind of wouldn't be the same without a character like that. That's why I'm going to ask this: do you guys want Henry back or would you rather have someone else fill that role? -

I thought Kenny filled that role. There's really no such thing as random imo but there is such thing as being really moody (Larry Butz from Phoenix Wright is probably the best example of this). I just don't see any rhyme or reason to why he'd act that way in the backstory unless he was mentally ill as a child. -
After doing that hardcore mod, I can attest to this. Less experience plus adjusted level =/= better difficulty. That whole section alone is a pain after Aya which is why I made Jamak implement an earlier lucky egg and a second Exp Share along with Chansey grinding. Route 1 is the bane of my existence as balancing that out is nigh impossible as 6-8 levels have to be gained for Radomus and Luna combined. Speaking of Route 1, it's my least favorite place in the game. It's really spread out and tedious. So tedious when you want to do side quests without that quick travel Tarous. I probably KO'd at least 150 of those things before the quick travel was implemented. It's also kind of painful exploring the first time because you have to wait on those bugs and have a lot of honey ready.

If it were anything but an Abra, I'd say no, but Abra has a crappy starting movepool and Encore isn't super OP as you'd think (you'd be surprised what people can do even locked into one move). Though I say it'd be alright to have Fire Punch, Barrier, and Guard Split given Abra's stats aren't made to use those moves really. -

No, there actually isn't anything wrong with this, but I kind of want clarity on something: is the personality more or less the same when you get closer to him (ie harsh words, but they are sincere) or is he like a completely different person? I kind of also want to throw something in the backstory. It's not bad, but it's completely nonsensical. I live in a state where winters are kind of bad at some points and there's no way he could have just found a Fennekin unless a resident in the town completely abandoned it an hour before Johnathan found it. It kind of contradicts your whole story as the town is racist against Fire Types (which I find hard to believe...considering you need heat to survive in that town) meaning there really wouldn't be any fire types to begin with. There is no possible way a Fennekin could be there unless it was owned by a different trainer because even in the game, the player passes out trying to travel to snowpoint due to the climate. -
Is there a pokemon fangame that has broken the 'rule of six'?
Commander replied to WavesBlade's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
I mean it is possible to make it 8 Pokemon in a party...but why bother? Adding two more Pokemon means reworking the system, most of the graphics, and even possibly some of the main engine for what? The effort required is no where near the reward for extending battles a bit longer. Limiting the Pokemon available is very possible though as Ruby Destiny: Rescue Rangers is a perfect example of this. Most of the characters available are more story based and it's a different due to the very limited selection instead of Pokemon's main gimmick of every team being different. You'll rarely see someone stretch from the normal formula though. As for something different, you'll have to be specific. Reborn is something different because it was the original "more challenging kind of Pokemon game" and has broken quite a few boundaries nobody really touched on. Revolution (the project I'm a part of) explores elements that pretty much no other Pokemon fan game creation truly touches on...making it kind of unique. Suzerain's projects have broken so many boundaries with their unique features while still able to call it a pokemon game which really separated him from the others. Snakewood is a hack that...nobody has even tried going back down that lane. -

Amen. Can't really add anything else to this tbh. The scenario you described relies more on the opponent making a mistake or getting a bit careless which would probably be more liable to accept that kind of situation instead of having a move that auto gets you out of trouble. But yeah, another big reason I don't put recovery moves on is because sometimes another move could be used as a defensive maneuver. -

For some reason, I see Tropius being a combination of both offensive and defensive. But tbh, I think recovery moves are more annoying than fun. Maybe if you use them once in a battle it's good, but after that, it's just straight up annoying. Since this isn't competitive battling, it's not like one move will knock the Pokemon back into the same zone, but more like 5 or 6 attacks on average...yeah...that's why I don't have recovery moves on my Pokemon. -
Yeah, the Solaris fight was an interesting decision. I knew just amping up Garchomp into a Lv 100 Mega wouldn't really make the same expression has having to fight a full team. (Seriously, I can imagine people's faces seeing he has 6 Pokemon). The lore is that he only uses half his power in that fight and simply was just testing your strength. One day, I will go and face this really hard fight and win. Not today, but one day I will win it. That Gyarados is a nightmare. And yes, I do believe Julia is the better partner considering the number of retries I had to do with Derpbot (Seriously, she sent out Tropius and Torterra on Walrein) which is both helpful and hurtful. It's helpful because the duo don't bombard you with attacks, but it's hurtful because Florinia doesn't get turns to attacks (seriously, she's like a crutch you need). I'm actually hesitant to nerf that section because on one hand, it's insanely difficult due to AI Florinia, but on the other hand, it makes for an epic climax to Hardcore as Ciel is a bit disappointing.

I'm surprised (and not surprised). I was guessing a couple themes with the Pokemon I picked, but alas to no avail. I know my first three are pretty obscure Pokemon usually regarded as really, really weak. (I mean Skitty ain't known for being top tier or anything). Also YES! Another coordinator makes me happy. I also was going to make a joke about all the coordinators being guys...then I realized I'm playing Citrine. Now we just need some A-hole guy and it'd be just like old times. -

My advice is to work backwards on this. You can keep points the same such as Shiro taking over his parent's company, but change a bit of reasoning or you can go completely anew. Henry's dad pretty much wanted Henry to go to Ymora to make friends. I probably could give you a million ways to make Shiro's character work out...but my other advice is not to make the parents look like bad people (though I suppose Shiro could think of them that way). I'm sure you can figure out the rest or how to fix and revise your character a bit better. Happy to be of service (I also felt it would kind of better fit what you're looking for without abuse). -

Perhaps you could do something more along the lines of risky plays like I do competitively instead of relying solely and luck and haxing. Seriously, many of my victories and loses rely on a very important move hitting or missing. High Risk, high reward playstyle instead of trying to play with luck and using as an excuse to power up moves. -

That's the equivalence of asking if Scyther is too OP for the start. Just know harvest doesn't work as berries can't be used in battles. -

Sorry about that. I know it's annoying because I had to copy and paste all that stuff over earlier. The only reason I do it is to keep the size down (and it's easier to update the Pokemon tab). -

All 3 share similar qualities, but Coordinators aren't focused on being super strong or perfect movesets (which is why they are interesting to come up with tactics for contests). I mean it's okay for a character for to have interests in two programs...but don't expect them to excel in both. In a way, Henry was dual studying battliing and coordinating, while battling was stronger in him (team designs were doubles focused)...he was a bit lackluster on the coordinator side...because he didn't know too much about it. -
Word to the wise; losing this battle may be better than winning it. Future Solaris is not a pushover (he's nowhere near as hard as Fern and Blake before it). I removed EQ on Flobot's Hippowdon so you will not have to worry about that. I can't tell you whether or not Julia will help you as I haven't tested it. For all I know, she'd hinder you (actually, she'd probably be slightly more helpful in the blake and fern, but worthless against Solaris). That future battle is the hardest fight in hardcore so...think carefully who you want to choose, no whether or you play fair in a fight.
