Ghost Monotype Preparation

Hello there!

With over 230 hours (not including resets) into rejuvenation I can positively say that I'm in love with this game. Enough to where I'm considering doing a run-through again as a challenge run, which is where Monotype peaked my interest. However before I got into the run, I wanted to do some preparation as to what I was going to get into by going into the run, notably difficult fights, and how to possibly deal with them, so I don't spend 10 hours at my screen wondering "How do I even do this". I was CONSIDERING doing an Intense Mode run of this, though with given difficulty... I find it unlikely. I'll state what I think might be possibly problematic Fights.

Venam - Ghost monotype is limited to Very Very few early game pokemon. Before Venam, the only mons (if I recall correctly) that we get access to are our starter (dartrix by now), & shuppet... Seems like a major annoyance.
Marianette - What. A. Nightmare. With the field, and our ghost attacks no longer being able to do a single thing, and having pokemon like Bewear to worry about, this seems like one hell of a battle. And our team hasn't even improved! There's only one pokemon we could POSSIBLY add, and that's oricorio... of whom we don't get access to sensu form but for my Sanity's sake, i'll say it's legal. But that's still just a team of Dartrix, Multiple Shuppet (probably), and Oricorio. That... doesn't help.
Narcissa - Even though we are super effective against her and we recieved a MASSIVE team roster increase, she is super effective against us... And that sounds. Pretty bad.
Angie - This battle is always a nightmare, no matter what you're doing.
Then comes a middle ground of a lot of fights that I'm not sure how well I will fare against. I'm just overall, unsure.
Rift Gardevoir (?) - Not exactly sure how this battle pans out for a ghost monotype. Though this is very late game, so I wouldn't be surprised if we have checks nonetheless. Still seems like a nightmare... Literally.

If any of you have any comments/questions/ideas for this run, Do let me know! Whether that be possibly more difficult fights, theoretical solutions to battles, or just if you got something to speak your mind about. There are a lot of cool pokemon i plan on using over time, but I just hope that this doesn't make me pull my hair out when I eventually do start to do it...

Don't forget that, in the Narcissa battle, Flash can transform her field into the Blessed field, which can help out, since it makes normal types super effective against her, and decreases the power of ghost type moves. You can exploit that via using Echoed Voice with Decidueye, or you can use Trash with Alolan Marowak, that fight shouldn't be so incredibly hard, to be honest. I wish you the best of luck on this little hell of a challenge ^~^

True! Forgot that Decidueye gets that. The Narcissa battle is probably a smaller worry compared to the others, due to the expanded team roster. What a little pocket of hell that Marianette will be.

Yeah... I don't want to discourage you, but the battle with Marianette is actually impossible without items, considering that you have a limited pool of slow pokemon that gets OHKO'd by each one of her attacks. If you need to breed another Rowlet, make sure that you get a female one at the start of the game. In order to get more Rowlets, you will need, either a Ditto (which you can't get), or a female one, since the pokemon that comes out of an egg is the same as the mother.

Welp-
There has to be SOMETHING... right? Maybe? ;w;

Get a jolly Decidueye and train it in speed and attack, don't change the field against Narcissa, Decidueye can probably destroy most of her team with shadow sneak and spirit shackle.

Don't forget that you are super effective against her and you can take advantage of the field, you are doing a ghost monotype, show her what TRUE POWER IS.

Good luck against Marianette. BUT the battle should not be impossible, there has to be a way, just need to figure what is needed.

The only way in my mind that I can see reasonably doing it is with INSANE RNG. Involves Confuse Ray + Pain Split + Substitute + Bright Powder Cheese using many many shuppet... Which sounds. Like a very grindy battle ;w;.
This battle existing kind of makes me cry.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna second this. Changing the field against Narcissa without a Normal type is rough anyways, since there's a good chance she'll spam Spectral Scream which would change it right back.

There's a ton of ghost moves that can turn the Blessed Field into a Haunted one, so that shouldn't be too bad either.

True... Though, they have dazzling gleam and flash, and some like Bewear just straight up have dark coverage to destroy me. .-. God why am I doing this run. Im such a crackhead.

how about Banette with Psych Up to copy Marianette's Cosmic Power boosts? if the AI decides not to attack immediately it might be worth a shot

Ahah... You see...
Shuppet evolves at the late ass level of 37. Way beyond the level cap to get a Banette. BUT... When do we get TM-Psych Up? It might be worth looking into TBH. But that's assuming they don't just want to OHKO me. If it's a shuppet, Lopunny OHKO's me, even max defense invested. I don't see a reason why they would Cosmic Power Boost up.

Hm... Interesting.

oof forgot the evo level, but psych up is in the hidden library, you get it before marianette. That's how i beat her last time. I also don't think they wouldn't attack, but the AI sometimes does that too

Can someone confirm something that I'm unsure of for me really quickly?

Is it possible to throw something in the daycare and go above the level cap, then use a rare candy, evolve, then use reverse candy to get yourself back to the level cap? This. Might solve ALOT of problems if so.

I tried to level up a Snivy this way to get Leaf Storm early, but when i took it out it didn't gain any EXP points, so i don't think it's possible

Your best bet is to get as many rare candy that can be pick up at that point of game, use the 100% walkthrough guide to search for hidden item

I checked. The answer is 5 by that point of the game. Not enough for even one banette (7). Lol.

Well crap, but at least it was enough for decidueye

You wouldn't even WANT a decidueye. That would make you ghost, and thus weak to the boosted normal moves on Blessed Field.
I have a pokepaste of a possible solution i worked on at like 2AM the other day, DM me on discord (is on my profile) if you're at all interested. Also have a theoretical one for Venam, though IDK how it will play out with the AI and all.

Wouldn't it better to teach Decidueye an ominous wind/ Phantom Force and just change the field to haunted, then you can just Sweep them with Boosted Spirit Shackle? and if im not wrong in Intense she always leads with cosmic power lopunny so its a free set up, but there is always a chance that loppuny will use return, so just pray that your ev trained Decidueye is faster

Remember, the level cap forbids you from gaining any EXP. Although you can farm a bunch of Rare Candies through an army of Pickup, and then level up Dartrix with enough Rare Candies (EDIT: He said that before on the previous post, sorry). That way, what you can do is use Ominous Wind turn one, change the field to the Haunted Field, and then make something out of your army of Oricorio and Shuppet.

you could also buy more Rare candies with APs in the Casino. (I used that once to get Magcargo to Lv 38 for the Nature Power TM before Marianette. That would also possibly help against her in case she turns the field back to blessed, though only Decidueye could learn it). fellowry's tip for getting them through Pickup might be best though

yeah she has, but the problem is the AI will likely decide to attack if it knows it can oneshot you. Rarely it might decide to do something else though, but I wouldn't count on that. You'd need max EV, IV and beneficial nature to outspeed it, and hope it has only 12 IVs or less in speed.

@Noctrine might've missed it, but which difficulty are you playing on? since Lopunny was mentioned i guess it's Intense?

I am 95% sure that I'm gonna do this run on Intense, yeah.

I believe I ran the speed calcs, and Lop will always outspeed decidueye (except at +1). Lop hits 88, while Decidueye hits 82 when max invested. Which is... quite annoying. Lol.

But now that I think about it, lop actually can't hit Decidueye after we set Haunted Field, allowing us to get as many Omniboosts from Ominious wins as we can... which is peculiar. I just have to invest to live it, which doesn't seem that bad with Decidueye's increased bulk from Dartrix. I DEFINITELY think it's doable. Might be annoying tho.

yup, and correct me if im wrong, but i believe they're not max IVs at early game, so it might be possible if they're low enough (max 12)

thing is Multpulse is super effective, gets field-boosted and Lopunny has +1 SpAtt from its Seed, Don't think you can live it except with max EVs in SpDef, and maybe HP. But then you'd be lacking in Att, unless you get the ominous boost as you mentioned.
