The Wyvern Riding lord swoops down towards the axe man and lands a heavy blow on the lad. As Doran tries to retaliate he can feel his arm coursing with power and before he knew it his axe began growing black flames once more. However, even with his blazing attack it barely left a scratch on the prince.

The rogue saw his opportunity and charged forward.  "You so called prince, just what in the hell do you think you're doing?" Zentilin spoke, his voice fueled by anger

 

"I'm doing my duty as heir to the throne of course, what of it?"

 

"Is that really all you have to say? Is THIS your duty as a prince? Enslaving your citizens to work on some giant magical weapon?"

 

"That's not it..." The prince couldn't think of any other response than this.

 

"Oh yea? Then what is it? Please enlighten me your grace!"

 

"Grrr... What do you know! Hiding behind that hood of yours! You know nothing!" He pointed his polearm down at the rogue's head as he looked down on him atop his wyvern.

 

"Oh I know nothing now huh? How long are you going to be a dog towards your grandfather? How long are you willing to endanger yourself and others by blinding following his word. Had it not been me who fought Alunda she'd be a lot worse off right now!"

 

"Alunda, what do you know of her!? Wait a moment... you couldn't be... TRAITOR! I WAS WORRIED ABOUT YOU FOR SO LONG AND THIS IS WHAT YOU'VE BEEN DOING! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?" At this moment his entire being radiated immense rage and his eyes were as sharp as the fangs of a dragon. 

 

"Enough chatter! It seems words alone will not open your eyes! I didn't want to do this but you've left me no choice!" He spoke finally brandishing his dark tome.

Zentilin's tome opened and the pages fluttered as a blast of dark energy engulfed his highness. The prince tried to retaliate but his anger only made his attacks easier to read and avoid.

 

"Come on, is this really the best 'The Prince of Aeyosal' can do? You even left the gate unguarded. It'd be a shame if we broke though the gate!" He teased trying to rile Xemnir even more.

 

"SHUT UP!" It seemed to be working quite well.

 

"Quickly everyone, once we deal with the little prince here it's a clear shot towards the gate!" He gestured everyone forward with his free arm.

With his earlier statement, Tekeshi ran behind several trees, using them as cover for his approach. That lance would be a huge problem, all things considered... But, what the hell, they had to get out of here as soon as possible. Might as well put his life on the line if Doran couldn't deal with it.  So, once he was in range, Tekeshi sprinted from the tree lines, holding his sword in one hand as the tip hovered mere inches above the ground. The Prince seemed aware of Tekeshi's advance, his mount turning to give its rider a better shot at defending against him... But by the time he had nearly gotten to a position to counter, Tekeshi had already placed his other hand on his blade...

 

Before jumping in the air, slashing upwards and easily slashing through the mount and by extension, the Prince. Not a fatal strike for either, but enough to keep them down.  With the strike done, however, Tekeshi merely flipped around in the air, landing back onto his feet once he hit the ground, spinning his sword once to get it back in a resting position.

 

"Don't say I didn't warn ya"

Xemnir was launched off his wyvern with Tekeshi's last attack, sending the prince and is wyvern on a nice journey towards the ground. A thud followed by a cloud of dirt followed as both of them are unable to pick themselves back up.

 

"This cannot be... How could I lose..." The lordling muttered before fully collapsing on the ground. The mage behind him was stunned. How could a bunch of escapees defeat the prince? Though everything went black for the man and Zentilin went up behind him and smashed the hilt of his knife into the back of his head, knocking him unconscious. He picked up Doran, having him lean on his shoulder.

 

"Come everyone, there's not much farther to go! It's a clear shot towards the exit!" The boy spoke heading towards the gates, having the rest of the group follow suit. The two doors busted open and everyone was able to make it to the cover of the trees.

Chapter 3: The Wong Place at the Wrong Time

 

Zentilin lead the group through the dark undergrowths of the forest, well, most of the group. Mercadier got separated from the group after they escaped, whether it was on purpose or not no one knew. However, they couldn't waste time, they had to a lot of ground to cover in order to get a safe distance away from the tower. After a couple of hours of travel Zentilin stops the group.

 

"We're here." The boy says walking through some bushes and tree branches before stopping at the mouth of a cave. Inside there are an assortment of sacks filled all kinds of fruits, vegies and meat, barrels filled with water and booze, and finally a wooden cart which he must of gotten all the food from. There was a pile of chopped wood near a circle of rocks, presumably to start a campfire along with a metal grate for cooking. Even more so there were multiple bed rolls. Zentilin then reached for the hood and pulled it down, finally revealing his face.

 

"Ah, feels good to finally take that thing off." He stretched his arms outs,  "I thought you all would enjoy some good food and drink after all you went though. So, I may have taken some of the good stuff the commander of the tower hoards for himself. Just make sure not to be too loud, just to be safe."

 

The ex-prisoner Oliver decided to speak up, "Say, you all didn't need to save us so we both agreed you all deserve these." The two prisoners took off two pendants from their necks and held them out from someone to take, "It's nothing much but please take them, We hope they bring you good luck for the future."

"Do not mind if I, the astounding Vivi, begin to devour your food for magics such as mine require a great amount of sustenance. I also have not eaten for several days." She took several fruits from one of the sacks, and began to bite into them, one by one. "So now that we're free, will everyone go their separate ways? I have quite enjoyed this little adventure and escape. I think there are several songs to be written about Vivianne the Extraordinary and the Bold Bunch."

[Chevaleresse]

"Oh, thank the gods, I thought I was never going to eat anything but stale bread and sadness again!" She took a fruit to munch on, trying to resist the urge to put it all down at once, as she moved over to the fire circle and stacked some of the gathered timber on it. She took a moment or two to grab some random nearby brush and twigs for tinder, carefully but quickly setting the fire up; it seemed that she'd practiced this before. This task completed, she pulled out her Fire tome, glancing through it for a moment, before sending a thin stream of flame from her right hand to the base of the flame, and fairly quickly had a cozy campfire prepared for herself and the rest of the group.

"Ready to go! Just be careful eating, Dad used to warn me about stuffing yourself after you haven't had enough to eat for a long time."

"She's right. Better to have a few bites now and then have more later once your stomach is used to it than be throwing it all up in an hour."

 

Settling down against one of the walls, he was content with a hunk of salted meat and an apple. After a few bites, he looked up at the others and commented,

 

"We'll need to set up a schedule for watches. I don't mind taking first watch. This cave is small enough we shouldn't need more than one person awake at a time. Probably should have three shifts though. That'll give everyone enough time to sleep."

"Well, this is a nice change of pace" Tekeshi stated upon reaching the camp, before taking both of the pendants from the ex-prisoners, "I'm sure they will. Your welcome for the help, couldn't just leave more people to work for those sorry bastards" he stated, before going and getting his own apple and booze, finally leaning down on the side of the cave wall.

 

"I'll pass on the watches, if that's possible. Not sure how much longer I'll be able to keep myself going after the amount of hits I've taken. Not much armor here to soften any blows" Tekeshi replied to Dorian, gesturing to himself before taking a drink, "I ain't planning on leaving yet though. Normally, I'd like to get somewhat paid, but that's to put food on my table, and I'd rather be sticking it to the people who threw me into that project from off the road."

Chance took the opportunity to cuddle up to Dorian. He was the only person she had the name of anyway besides he was nice enough. Chance stuck mostly to the fruit, she preferred sweeter things and she doubted that this meat really met the qualifaction. She also figured she should stick with lighter things for now as she'd not eaten well in quite some time. "Well, l can take second, since l'll probably be up most of the first anyway. l'm a bit of a night owl.~ "

She nuzzled into Dorian's shoulder a little "So l guess l can keep you some company on the first then. Hope you don't mind~"

"Does anyone know how to cook? I could try, but, um. . ."

"I've been told it's much better that I have a book in my hand, rather than a ladle."

[Aurorix]

"You have more experience than me, never touched a ladle in my life. I've been living off whatever I could snatch from the temple or what I could buy at towns."

 

"But, I doubt you could be that bad. Why not at least give it a go?"

Doran blinked, not sure how to deal with all of this.

 

"Uh, yeah, sure. That's fine. You should try and sleep some though. I suspect we have a long road in front of us..."

 

He awkwardly patted her head as she nuzzled into his shoulder. This was entirely foreign territory to him and he was pretty sure he was going to screw it all up somehow.

"If you say so." Viola set about gathering up a few of the ingredients, grabbing enough that she should theoretically be able to feed everyone - though she herself satisfied her hunger by nibbling some salted pork throughout the process. She took samples from basically everything the rogue had brought to them, including the booze, and gave them a thorough consideration before truly getting down to business.

 

Several minutes of intensive cooking later (somewhat enhanced with judicious application of the Fire tome), she'd produced a result. It was. . . something, a strange-looking mix of browns, bruised greens, and reds. It smelled like. . . well, it was an unusual odor. Still, she seemed reasonably proud of her creation. 

"Alright, I think it's ready! Go ahead, everyone."

Zentilin looked down at the... food? on his plate. He lifted up a spoonful of the substance before examining it more thoroughly. By the gods, it really could be that bad,

 

"So, uhhhhhhh, what exactly is this dish? I never seen anything quite like it before." He spoke trying to get some sort of sense of what she was trying to cook.  "What exactly did you put into it?"

“Eh, cooking’s never been my forte. Give it a shot though, can’t be too bad” Tekeshi stated, waving his hand a bit in Viola’s general direction as he settled down. He’d probably be full by the time she was done cooking anyway, all things considered.

 

… Except, by the time she was, he had barely finished his first meal forcing him into the meal… And forcing him to pause at the sight of it. Gods above, what even was that? It didn’t even look like food. Just… Random parts thrown together. He wasn’t even sure what was in it, and the smell… He couldn’t put a finger on it.

 

“Well, it’s… Unique, at the very least” Tekeshi stated, trying to examine what he could out of the dish, “Probably a lot better than what I could make”

"It's a pork cutlet bowl with a wine sauce. I just used most of the pork we had and a few different fruits. Aren't you going to try it?" Viola looked at him innocently, clearly proud of her. . . creation.

Pork Cutlet Blow? This? No this has gone far beyond such a dish. What should he do? There's no way he would eat this normally, but Viola is starring at him. He can't just throw it away. No, the least he could do was try one bite. Who knows, maybe it'll be better than it looks? Time seemed to slow down as the shaky spoon inched it's way ever closer to his mouth before... *chomp* A few moments of pure silence filled the cave before.

 

"Agh, urg, plegh!" He tried to swallow it but his body refused spat it out. The taste was indescribable. The texture slimy yet rough, and it felt like your mouth was filled with sand with a bunch of crunchy bits.

 

"WHAT IN THE SEVEN HELLS IS THIS!?!?!?" The boy blurted out in an uncontrollable rage,  "I tried to shove it down, but this doesn't even deserve the title of slop! This, I wouldn't even torture my worst enemies by feeding them this!"

"Oooooh food don't mind if I do."  Vivi took a bowl, having spaced out from everyone else's reactions. She took a large bite into her mouth, and her body immediately protested. But ever the performer, Vivi refused to react ungracefully. Taking her hand up to cover her mouth she feigned a "Mmmmmm~♪" sound, while spitting out the contents of her mouth into her hand. She slid this hand behind her cloak, and dropped the food to the floor cloaked behind her robes. "Wow Viola, this is amazing! No, stupendous! I see that your talents are not just magic, but I urge you stick to magic and not cooking! For magic is the true ambition of all living things." Vivianne put the bowl down next to the pot and continued. "However, you see I have just remembered that I began a vegan diet yesterday, and I have already broken it by eating this wonderful food. As such I, the Gallant Vivi, hereby declare myself forbidden from eating your wonderful food as much as it hurts me. I will resign myself to simple fruit. It truly wounds my heart to do this, but it must be done."

For Tekeshi, the reaction of both Zent and Vivi, combined with Viola’s innocent proudness had an… Interesting effect on Tekeshi. There was clearly something wrong with it, and who knows, he might just die from taking a bite, judging by Zent’s reaction. But, he couldn’t NOT eat it, thanks to Viola’s look.

 

Damn guilt tripping…

 

With a sigh, Tekeshi picked up one of the spoons, getting his own bite and, with dread, taking a bite… Before visibly freezing, eyes widening a bit.

 

The taste was… Well, indescribable. It had an extremely strange mixture of… Well, quite a lot of tastes. Moistness plus roughness, with a strange crunch added it. It made no sense to him, but somehow it was… One of the best things he had ever tasted. Because of this, Tekeshi actually chewed on it a bit… Then did the impossible and actually swallowed.

 

“Damn, this isn’t that bad. Good work Viola” he stated sincerely, going for his second bite.
