I think I mentioned this ability before in a status update, but damn has it been proving more useful in the late game than it was earlier on. Have an opponent that's relying on ability whether for protection (Levitate), power (Skill Link, Speed Boost), gimmicks (Wonder Guard, Parental Bond, Moody) or some combination (Protean, Guts)? Just switch in with this to shut it down, either forcing a switch out or maybe taking the problem out if the A.I. doesn't switch out. It may have been better if I didn't have the glass canon of the 4 puppets who get it, but I'll take what I can get.
It did make for a bad time when both of us switched out and I ended up canceling out the Truant substitute on the game's version of Slacking.........

And with the type additions/changes, it's always a gamble to know if a switch in will be worth it, especially if the puppet just gets one-shotted
It does make me curious if this is a commonly splashed ability in online matches.......which you can unlock access to in the postgame
so I was pleasantly surprised. I haven't really looked into them, but it could be interesting.

Of course they had to do a title drop near the end, though they didn't find a way to squeeze in 'Shard of Dreams'. Not really sure if I I will do a few posts about the post-game or try to condense it to two posts (sidequests/etc and post/end-game story stuff). I guess I still technically have a few of the harder things with level 95 enemies to do, but I'll decide if it's worth it later......

Wow, I am taking WAY too many screenshots

So, Fruits Basket is apparently getting a new anime adaption next year, this one covering all of the manga. As much as I like the shortend plot they made for the first adaption,
I would like hearing the manga plot........plus an excuse to re-read if I find the time.

Oh yeah, I forgot Elon Musk was in the game
SpoilerFor those who don't get the joke

Very long post warning. Finally writing something for the Puppet Dance Performance......though I could probably write two since I've been putting it off. For some reason, I started taking a lot of screenshots.....way too many The first two sections are kinda fillerish, so skip to "At least I got a new Gap spot as soon as I entered Makai" to see me ignoring the last red flags and 'Champion' if you want to skip to near the end / the relevant plot.
Simply put, this track is burned into my mind, like I've already posted about a few times

Ok, onto something. Well, after facing both of our rivals, it's time to investigate Makai......which we get to through through another cave. If only I picked up up on the pattern, though it was a altered, so I wouldn't have anyway.
I used to not have to use Repels......I had so much patience with wild encounters back in the day. NOT ANYMORE! I did come across the organizer of Gensokyo's first cosplay convention...
SpoilerAnyway, after many dead ends (but with good items at the ends), I came upon the one Touhou gatekeeper I always forget about and a teleporter. Well, time to go to Makai.............
SpoilerSpoilersorry for forgetting about you
.........or not. We come out in some random boundary Ice World......completely with Ice Puzzles. At least these aren't too complicated and those iced trees look great.
SpoilerAnother time of me saying I like the VS sprites in this game even the NPC trainers. Also, clutch survival by Kokoro. Good job!
SpoilerSpoilerA bit mad that this named character was here to heal you.......which I didn't find out until afterward. I thought she was another named character battle and wanted to save healing items............and ended up wasting more.
SpoilerFinally at the end of this world, two more named characters.......which means good A.I. I don't really remember much except that they forced me to use almost all the healing items I had, so they must have been decent. Also, the levels on the named enemies have pretty much caught up to time at this point. Much like this entire Ice segment, I don't know why the Extra stage bosses of Touhou 4 are here as a buffer before Makai (Touhou 5), but I assume they just skrewed with things to battle me.
SpoilerSpoilerAt least I got a new Gap spot as soon as I entered Makai. That cave was too long. There really isn't much here, except for an item vendor that is selling top of the line healing items. Finally they are selling the Full Restore equivalent, so the Max Revive equivalent is the only thing not sold, as is common. I did notice that I was using quite a lot of healing items just to get by now. I know I don't have the best balanced team and the typing differences still confuse me, so I decided to try to not items the next battle.......wrong time, me....wrong time.
All that's left is to do here is go to the castle(?) at the end of the path that I just realized I don't have a screencap of. Amusingly, there is both a path for people with appointments and another for those without........which the person at the desk mentions is inescapable once entered. AND FINAL FLAG IGNORED because I found the situation amusing.
Once I entered the room and saw the layout, it clicked to me what this was. I just walked into what can count as the Elite 4 gauntlet....after just resolving to try to use less healing items in battle. Well, I was going to give it shot. All three 'elites' have a special bit of dialogue if you just try to walk past them to the door; very nice detail there. *FOR THE REST OF THIS UPDATE, ALL SPOILER TAGS WILL HAVE IMAGE CLUSTERS, INSTEAD OF JUST ONE IMAGE
SpoilerI really tried with this one not to use items. Yuki had a team mostly built on SPEED variants of puppets, with a slight preference for Fire types. I turns out Fire was pretty much only checked by my leading glass cannon Kogasa. I had
GroundEarth coverage, but they were part Steel and melted before they got an attack off. My whole plan of not using healing items didn't pan out in the end, especially since the game has no option to change to Switch mode....Set only. The main thing I noticed with this battle is a disturbing trend that has followed ever since. Most trainer's A.I.s from this point on are freaking mind readers. I remember seeing something about this on a thread here a few weeks back, so it isn't new to Pokemon apparently, but this just ramped it up. Every switch in was likely to be met with a Super effective move, while every returned Super Effective was met with a switch out from the enemy.
I was at least going to get to the next trainer before possibly losing and trying again with some different members. Kogasa barely managed to pull off a victory in the end.
SpoilerHonestly, Mai wasn't that hard with either team and I managed to beat her first try, though with some healing item usage. Kisume almost took out half Mai's team by herself.....she really is probably my best wall with her unique Fire/
GrassNature typing and all the immunities it brings. Also, I forgot her ability prevents switchouts from Volt-Switch equivalents, which REALLY helped here since half of Mai's team used those moves.....it was her gimmick. Plus, her alternate sprite lets her be Snake, so that's a plusSpoilerAlso, behold the game's Wobbafett stand-in
SpoilerNow for the fucking maid that cause so much trouble, even forcing me to bring a revised team just to deal with her. Damn you are going to have to pull some work in FMW next time I play it to make up for this. Honestly, I don't remember most of her other team aside from an Alice and Sakuya puppet that were a bit more than speedbumps; the main problem was her ace puppet, Speed Yumeko.
Like Power Aya, she has the game's equivalent to Skill Link, is fast as hell, and has decent coverage. Normally, her pure Steel typing wouldn't be that much of a problem.....except that Kisume is the only Fire type I have, the other Fire coverage is a glass canon, and she could 5-shot any of the Fighting coverage I had. It seems she paid a lot of offerings to RNG-esus considering how many crits she landed and how many times my Will-O-Wisp missed; Shinki's going to be pissed at your split faith.
Finally I got a Will-O-Wisp and pretty much just had to keep Kisume alive until Yumeko melted away. The lack of screenshots here should be telling.
SpoilerNot only do we face the 'Champion', but we also find out she was the one who's behind the Puppet incident......for the most Touhou of reasons.
SpoilerShinki's team mostly consisted of Stage 5, 6, and Extra bosses from Touhou games......in other words heavy hitters or beefy units only. However, without something as obnoxious as Skill Link on a supremely fast unit, she was quite manageable within a time or five. She has her own theme and a great battle background.
SpoilerSpoilerIncident over it seems, though a Creator God's magic apparently takes a while to go away
SpoilerTime to go back
Then an unpleasant interruption that signals the boundary between the main game and the post game
SpoilerAnd a cute credits scene with your starter with many of the theme remixes of the game on display

I'm surprised the Fantasy Maiden Wars translation team released another stage just about a week after the last one. The climactic fight with Yuuka. I had better finish this playthrough of Puppet Dance Performance if I plan to get through the rest of the game before
they spoilI read the gimmicks of the rest of the bosses.....all two of them, since there is only 2 stages leftand 3 bonus stages.https://lpix.org/sslptest/index.php?id=152682
Very short subbed event this time, but very neat attack animation to environment change transition from Yuuka.
SpoilerAnd might as well post the video of all of Yuuka's animations, since her newer ones are some of the best in the game.......at least to me.
and the janky old one at the tail end -
So a new Super Robot Wars was announced a few hours ago, dropping a trailer along with it. Most of the cast seems like the same recycled stuff that they've been using the past few games, though a few of the returning ones have newer animations.
I suppose Gunbuster and Votoms fall under something from 'the past few games', but I guess favoritism will overrule annoyance..........GaoGaiGar too, though it's recent game was a 3DS game. Gun X Sword makes a modern return, while I am actually excited to see G Gundam, @CodeCass
Outside of Mazinger Infinity being adapted so soon, I was most certainly surprised by one of completely new ones. I honestly thought the only thing we could vaguely hope for was an appearance in X-Omega, but NOPE it's in a mainline game
SpoilerCOWBOY BEBOP ACTUALLY CONFIRMED FOR SRW!!!! ........will the final battle of the series have [redacted] in his smaller ship from the midseries or a generic battleship, I wonder.
Captain Harlock is there too, for the new trend of including an iconic anime battleship.
Spoiler-
-
.............and the second one has the return of the V twins and another surprise....
SpoilerDevilman.........I'm kind of surprised it wasn't sooner
Wow does one of the protags look like someone straight out of Persona or something.
At least it looks to be an actual SRW, instead of another X-Omega

Well, those battles definitely went from 25 to 100.........and now I have this stuck in my head. I love 'Doll of Misery' so it's not a bad thing.......though the character who the theme belongs to has thoroughly frustrated me. I'll probably write a
rambleupdate about it sometime tomorrow.Spoiler -
I wanted to make a Puppet Dance Performance update post, but I'm a bit too frustrated at it right now now..........at least the 'Doll of Misery' remix in this part is excellent or I might have wanted to break something
Spoiler -
Even if this scene was pretty much the only real action that Gunbuster got in it's OVA series, it's still one of my favorite mechs. It's got a plethora of weapons (two of which weren't animated in the OVA), two shield systems, and was the tallest mech in mecha anime for a period. It seems that Gainax confirmed a third Aim for the Top OVA series (of which Gunbuster is the first), so I wanted to look up this iconic fight again.

After almost a year I can finally understand what is going in Fantasy Maiden Wars stage 74. This also means that the translation LP has surpassed where I stopped a
few8-9 months ago...........really need to finish it once Puppet Dance Performance is done -
My Youtube subscription feed essentially turned from Spyro remake videos and streams from a few of the channels where I'm subbed, to videos of "Kanto: Electric Boogaloo Strikes Back" with some Spyro splashed in.
