I have to say I still don't understand this game/series at all, despite reading many of your posts about it. the music seems pretty sweet though

It's basically adapting the Touhou Project* story (from Touhou 6-12 with some material from 4/5 and from the side games and manga), into a turn based strategy game directly based on the Super Robot Wars (SRW) series**-------or comparable to Fire Emblem probably .   

All characters and music are from Touhou, though the tracks are remixed (with some being basic remixes and others mixing songs from the SRW series).  Most of the mechanics are from SRW games, though they have added new mechanics meant to simulate the  Bullet Hell aspect of Touhou and it's Spell Card system.

* Touhou Project is a series of Bullet Hell games that are extremely popular, noted for it's wide cast of strange/absurd charaters and killer music.  Developed all by one creator, Zun.

** Super Robot Wars is a series of turn-based strategy games developed by the game studio Banpresto.  They are crossover games mostly, featuring the casts of various mecha anime.  Currently 26/27 years old.
