There are indeed certain aspects of Christianity that are war-like - and it is very much the case that Jesus can come between family members. Especially if a convert lives in a Muslim home, resulting in that woman being beaten severely and cast out. Nobody is a Christian because it's a social club, and if they -are- then this verse is the one of Jesus' many ways of reminding that "Christian" of the pond their foot is in.
