When i beat it I generally use perish song kricketune with focus sash, but I remember once managing to set up 5 mighteyena(used a revive) w/ intimidate then using a Garbador with to take its attacks while I whittled its health down.

The ill fated doll will get you an much later in the game, and as for the poocheyena line, no place only spawns them but the alleyways tend to spawn them frequently enough it should be viable.

After all the other types mentioned, the onix line might be the oldest, given that they live deep underground and can apparently live hundreds of years

There is also the possibilty of tentacool/tentacreul species. No pokedex entries actually say so, but given they are based on jellyfish which are fairly simple organisms, its possible they've easily been around millions of years. Beyond them, all ghost types are a strong possibility, as we see pokemon like gengar being imprisoned by pokeopolis, and just the idea that they are the dead means its possible they've existed since the first death. Also ninetails, not technically ancient but as possible immortals they have the possibility of being so in extreme cases.

There's a guide somewhere around here that says so about vanillite, but yeah, most machines will give you a vanillite. As for Blastoise or Sharpedo, I'd go Blastoise just for the bulk and slightly better moveset, and the trick to manectric is breeding for perfect spd IV. I got lucky w/ a 31 on spd and 31 on sp att, on mine, and its only ever been ko'd twice. Once to the ground leader(not my brightest idea using it) and once to Solaris on the volcano. If noctowl is really useless, crobat is really what you need. And definitely get the meinshao, though in later game consider replacing this with a lucario.
