Poke-people: Chapter 2: Your first Exam
Jory replied to grasssnake485's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Sonny blanched. "I'm an idiot. Of course that would be the case!" He then looked with concern toward the boat the students were assaulting. "Should we get over there and help the students?" -

Sonny looked thoughtful for a moment. "It was light. Only a couple dozen henchmen, and no one that could take more than one hit from me." He then looked out on the water, sighing. "I really need to train Maverick more. Having a Staraptor's vision would be extremely helpful right now." He then looked back at Alina. "I haven't seen you in battle dress in some time. I have to say, it's as impressive as ever." Sonny blushed lightly at the last comment. "What do you need me to do?" -

Pokémon Academy: Ch 2a: Dragons [IC]
Jory replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Jacob chuckled as he looked at the sketch he'd made of his team, then back up at his friends. Spitfyre and Teo seemed to be getting along much better today, especially after Spitfyre's victory. Chalchi was busy playing with Arete, which Jacob really appreciated as the little egg's playfulness was tiring even the fit young man out. I'm glad Spitfyre and Arete joined the team. They're going to be a lot of help during the Winter Cup, he thought to himself. "Hey, guys, come look!" he said excitedly. All his Pokemon rushed over to take a look at the sketch, and Chalchi craned her neck to see it. Spitfyre and Arete looked absolutely horrified at the poor quality of the drawing, while the other two simply laughed. "Yeah, I'm not the best artist around, ok? But at least I'm a good Trainer!" he said happily. His team nodded their heads in agreement as Jacob leaned back against a tree, waiting for the chaperones to call the students back to the campsite. -
Let's stay on the cautious side. Helze should take the lead since we're going through the woods.

Pokémon: Aftermath #3a - In the Thin Ice [IC]
Jory replied to Notus's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Jory nodded grimly at the other Trainer. "I'm glad you understand. We can't afford the mistakes of any starry-eyed rookies." He looked over the selection of clothing, trying to decide what to wear. Hmm... We're with Team Dusk now. Better dress the part, he figured. The young man carefully picked up a black ski jacket with a rather large hood and inspected it for any tears or holes. "By the way, make sure your clothing is intact. If any water gets in it, it'll get all cold and damp," he said to Seth. He then found a pair of thick black half-calf hiking boots and set them aside along with the jacket. Then, he found a pair of black ski pants. Hmm... Better dress in layers. He dove back into the pile, grinning from ear to ear as he picked up an orange fleece with a zippered collar. Finally, he picked out an old black beanie. As he turned it around in his hands, he looked sadly at the logo. It was a Devon Corporation hat like the ones they'd sold at the Lilycove Department Store. He immediately pocketed it and found a pair of nondescript black gloves and a pair of thick woolen socks. He took off his backpack and began to neatly store the items, pushing aside his two Hyper Potions and a small bag of Pecha Berries. "I'm ready to go. Let's head to the meeting place," he said more quietly, still a bit shaken from the flood of memories that had accompanied finding the hat. ((Last post for this part))- 478 replies

Dru smiled sadly at the ogre. "Oarloff, I would like nothing more than to make all these wretched creatures feel the true wrath of the Earth for what they've done to her. The most important thing now is that we warn other people of what has happened so that they can be prepared and prevent it from happening again." He then looked pensive for a moment, trying to find the right words to explain it to the gentle giant. "We are heroes, Oarloff. By warning people we'll be saving them. Only after that's been taken care of should we think about revenge. That is a path that is only traveled in one direction."

Pokémon: Aftermath #3a - In the Thin Ice [IC]
Jory replied to Notus's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Jory turned to the other team member walking beside him. "Seth, right? The guy with the Electivire?" he asked as he continued toward the door of the Gym. Shredder walked calmly beside his Trainer, sizing up the new teammate. Jory chuckled slightly at the other Trianer's question. "I know we'll run into resistance wherever we go. It'd be ignorant to believe otherwise. And we should expect whoever's leading Dawn's forces in Snowpoint City these days to be significantly more challenging than Gardenia. We caught her off-guard and managed to overwhelm her, but that's not going to happen twice." The veteran looked pensive for a moment. "We were barely able to match her Pokemon, even one-on-one. Shredder almost got beaten by her Sceptile, but pulled through with an X-Scissor to end the battle. And we should expect them to have more intel on our team now." The pair of Trainers neared the exit of the Gym, and Jory stopped walking briefly. "I know you haven't been in a battle with Dawn's forces yet, so let me tell you what Sarcus back there didn't understand. You can hold all the ideals you want, but in battle your priority has to be the safety of your teammates and yourself. Even if it means cold-bloodedly killing the people who get in your way," he said sadly, regret and pain visible in his eyes. "Take it from someone who's seen the carnage firsthand. It's better to see dozens of dead Acolytes than to watch someone you care about die because she couldn't do what was necessary to survive."- 478 replies

Dru sadly put a hand on Oarloff's shoulder, shaking his head. "My friend, there are wicked beings in this world. And one of them saw to it that the people of this town would never be able to tell anyone what they'd seen. They're dead, Oarloff. All we can do now is get to Farreach as quickly as possible and warn the people there of the danger we face," he whispered. The half-Orc looked toward Helzebeth, making eye contact with the ranger. The sadness in the sorcerer's eyes was more telling than anything he'd said to Oarloff. "Flint, I trust you have also felt the evil that now inhabits this Earth. Do you know anything about it?"

Jory replied to Notus's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Jory nodded, looking down at Shredder. "Toxic Boost is one of our favorite tactics, though. It's one of the few things that the Acolytes rarely see coming, so when Shredder runs at them with a Facade attack after using Swords Dance and with Toxic Boost active they get the hurt put on them pretty badly. Hell, we even managed to bring down Gardenia's Shaymin like that," he said thoughtfully, a grin coming over his face. There's nothing I like more than seeing a bitch like Gardenia getting her comeuppance, that's for sure, he said inwardly. Jory sighed, a frown coming over his face. "People like Gardenia and Dawn are why my brother is dead. They're why my parents went missing three years ago and they're why I fight. So, Lupus," he continued, putting a hand on the man's shoulder. "Whatever it is that's been troubling you, whatever it is that's festering within your soul... Just know that all of us have demons." He then looked toward the door. "I'm going to head off and see about scrounging up some warmer clothing. What I have on isn't going to help that much once we hit Snowpoint," he said, indicating his black leather bomber jacket, jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers. "Anyone want to come with?"- 478 replies

Jory sighed heavily as Sarcus walked away from him. Unfortunately, the way the world is it won't be long before he sees something that changes his tune. He then turned back to Lupus and Miki, interested in what the girl had to say. However, true to form she didn't give much away and instead asked after Lupus. Fortunately for her, Jory was just as interested in hearing more about his comrade-in-arms than the Covert Ops girl. Something in his gaze, though. I recognize that look. Family, he thought to himself, the pain of his own losses still throbbing after all this time.- 478 replies

I kinda assumed that as the only 2 survivors, the pair had bonded over the past few days. Lupus and Jory certainly weren't so buddy-buddy before the battle.

Ugh, Sarcus did something to Jory that I hate so much irl... Seriously though, this is a (19?) year old that just participated in a full-scale war for control of a city. You expect him to not be on edge? Also you totally ignored the part about a member of his squad being mauled to death in front of him...

Pokémon: Aftermath #3a - In the Thin Ice [IC]
Jory replied to Notus's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Jory felt the anger bubbling again, but this time managed to rein it in much more effectively. "You're right. I shouldn't have jumped all over you about that. But telling us what happened as though we don't already know isn't going to change anything. My grandfather once told me, 'This too shall pass.' It's an old Hebrew saying. All we can do is learn from our mistakes, move on, and try to do better in the future. Now do you understand what I meant? None of us want that to be our legacy. That being said, I'd rather live in a world where people hate me for the way I brought down a mad god than live in this one." He then turned his attention fully to Lupus, done trying to justify himself to someone who had yet to see firsthand the true horrors of the war on the ground. He's like I was. An idealist in a world where only the strong or the criminally insane survive. I can only hope he realizes that idealism only has its place in an ideal world. As Jory watched Lupus, he couldn't help but feel sorry for the man. He's been through so much already. People like him are why we fight.- 478 replies

Jacob grinned at the normally unexpressive Trainer's approval. "Yeah, I know. But Arete isn't quite fast enough to get out of the way and it seemed my best option at the time. I was actually hoping for something more defensive like a Withdraw or even a Protect, but I'm not about to complain about what happened." He looked down at the Togepi and tickled her stomach, causing the egg Pokemon to giggle uncontrollably. "You're gonna have to do some hard training before the Winter Cup!" he said in a mock harsh tone, razzing her belly immediately after. -

Jory turned his steely gaze to Sarcus, looking the upstart up and down before snorting and chuckling. He then started laughing, barely able to contain himself anymore. It was all he could do not to take a swing at the guy who'd taken credit for the work of an entire squad of highly skilled individuals. However much he was able to restrain the rest of his body, he couldn't restrain his mouth. "Oh, so you mean to tell me that this girl and her Jolteon did none of the work?" he said loudly, his bubbling anger making him oblivious to Lupus's reaction to MIki. "I really doubt you would have gotten anywhere near that generator without a team to back you up. So take your high and mighty shit somewhere else, because the time for that is long past. This war we're fighting is going to take your idealism and ram it right down your fucking throat if you don't wake up and realize that not everyone is getting out of here alive. I know Odin didn't. But you don't give a shit about her, right? Because she clearly didn't help as much as you did before one of those acolytes you're so hung up on saving had a Vigoroth tear her to bits!" he said, shouting by the end of it. With that, Jory stopped ranting and took several deep, shuddering breaths before closing his eyes. Shredder looked up at his Trainer, concern evident on the Zangoose's face. The veteran opened his eyes and looked back at Sarcus. "I'm sorry. These past few days have been... troubling, to say the least. But take it from someone who was in the thick of it. This war is hell on Earth, and blaming the people on your side is not the way to go about things. We need to stick together." He then turned to the newcomers. "Sorry you had to hear that. I'm Jory, and this is Shredder, and...." he trailed off, looking up at Lupus. The older veteran seemed genuinely troubled. "Hey, you okay, man?" he asked, putting a hand on the other man's shoulder.- 478 replies

Jacob frowned at the laughing Skrelp. "Hey, your friend there tried his best! Why don't you tell him what he did wrong and help him improve instead of making fun of him? It's not his fault that we got lucky with that Aeroblast. Speaking of which..." he trailed off, looking at the comically flailing egg. The Trainer quickly jogged over and scooped the egg Pokemon up, lifting her high in the air. "Arete, that was amazing! I didn't know you had it in you!" he said excitedly, bringing the Togepi in to hug her. Arete hugged her Trainer back, giving a happy cry. "You won your first battle! I'm so, so proud of you!" he gushed, unable to contain his excitement. "And with an AEROBLAST! That was so cool! I've never seen that move before now, but it was everything I imagined and more. You're going to be with me for a long time, Arete. I promise." The Togepi gave another happy cry. Spitfyre stood off to the side, smiling to himself and shaking his head at the excessive display of emotion. But, he had to hand it to Arete and his Trainer; even with a type disadvantage and no experience in battle, Jacob was able to coach the newest member of the team to victory. The Trainer then turned to Mareek, a huge smile on his face as he cradled the happy Togepi. "What did you think, Mareek? I know you're a strategist at heart and probably didn't like that I relied on Metronome, but how frickin' cool was that Aeroblast?" -

Jory grimly removed the Premiere Ball from his belt, lightly tossing it up and down in his hand as a pensive look came over his face. "Believe me, for every casualty we suffered the Mareeple in the Conclaves suffered dozens more. One of our own saw to that," he said sadly. "Loss of life is not something to be taken lightly, but in this day and age there's not much of a choice. What was it that Crobatman said in the comics? 'You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.'" He pressed the button on the Premiere Ball and Shredder appeared next to his Trainer in a flash of light, crossing his arms and looking the newcomer up and down before snorting derisively. "I don't think there's such a thing as either anymore." Jory then turned to Lupus. "And yeah, I think we're the only vets left. Although I hear some of the agents here were part of the Covert Ops squad that deactivated those barriers and saved our asses." The veteran then looked back at Adam. "And don't be so sure about competence as a measure of teamwork. Dawn's the most competent battler out there, but we have plenty of issues with her. What matters most is that everyone here is willing to die to see her dead." His gaze hardened and he looked down at his partner, scratching his head affectionately. "Because sometimes your life is worth less than saving what little you have left to love."- 478 replies

Dru stood quietly in the brush, trembling after what had occurred with the Grave Earth. Nothing should ever taint the Earth like that. What kind of dark magic is this? he wondered, amazed by the sheer power it must have taken to create such an evil entity. We may soon find ourselves gravely outmatched if that is the case. I must prepare myself for battle, he thought silently, staring off into the distance.
