  1. Yeah, I don't handle criticism that well. Comes from being raised in a house where everything I did was constantly under attack, whether it was from my brother or parents. They're all such normal people. It's kinda gross D:
  2. Honestly, I'm kind of middle of the road. Sometimes it takes me a bit to get that people are messing with me because I (for whatever reason) get super defensive around my family, and it's hard to break down that wall even when I'm with friends. I just like to have fun and I'm told I'm sweet and compassionate, which I take as good things
  3. Jory's expression darkened as he heard what had driven Carissa to join Team Dusk. "It's disgusting how they treat people with ideas different than their own. My parents told me that's what made the world so great before Dawn took over. The free exchange of different ideas and viewpoints made the world a beautiful, vibrant place. Now it's dark and oppressive. And to hear that they did that to a man in a store of all places... It breaks my heart. But for what it's worth, I'm glad it happened. Otherwise Team Dusk would be down a fighter, and that's something we can't afford these days." Suddenly, he heard Adam having another whispered outburst. He can't appreciate the levity of a hike through the woods, even if it's at such a morbid time. I'm glad he's on our side, though, he thought to himself. He looked down at Carissa. "The Lilycove I remember isn't the Lilycove that I left. I prefer to store those memories somewhere that they won't corrupt the better ones. You should have seen what it looked like the night there was a Staryu swarm in the bay. It was a beautiful light show. Hundreds of eerily beautiful rubies glistening just below the surface of the waves," he continued wistfully, almost able to smell the salt air once more. "The stars were so bright that night. It was the night the power went out. I was seven." The Trainer chuckled at the memory. "And then my brother... He just said, 'Jory, look up.' And I did. And Carissa, I've never seen something more incredible in my life. I felt so small compared to the hundreds of thousands of stars that you could see out over the ocean. Without the city lights and on a cloudless night, you can see everything in the sky over the ocean. The way the ocean mirrored the starlight and those ruby red spots in the tide... It's moments like those that I fight for. And I fight for my brother." Jory stopped himself for a moment. I just met this girl and I haven't told anyone else on the team about him. So why does this feel different? He shrugged off his misgivings, remembering what he'd said earlier. Carpe noctem. "He was one of the first people the Church targeted. If you think I'm strong, you should have seen him fight. It took over half the Conclave before his Flygon went down. But they didn't stop there. They made an example of him." Jory's gaze hardened. "You don't really know fear until you see the strongest person you know publicly executed." He then looked down at Carissa. "He fought for the same things I did. But he didn't know how to pick his battles. I bided my time. I knew that one day there would be enough people who had simply had enough of Dawn's tyranny. And here we are," he finished. "I'm sorry to pour that out on you. You're the first person I've told in a long time. But it was refreshing to at least tell someone." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meanwhile, Shredder crept through the snow, his white fur making him hard to follow. He knelt near the Houndoom's legs, suppressing his chuffling laughter and waiting for the Jolteon to push.
  4. Funnily enough, Jacob from Academy is actually my most self-inserty. Lately I've been so disgusted with the treatment of animals at industrial farms that I'm strongly considering becoming a vegetarian.
  5. Jory turned a bright shade of red but said nothing, instead reaching his arm around Carissa for warmth. Well, as long as it's for warmth, he figured. Then, Adam started hurling insults. He couldn't help but chuckle lightly at the almost comical nature of his teammate's hostility. "There he goes again," he said quietly. "And Shredder and I are of the opinion that we need to take advantage of this world while we can. Because with a job like ours, you can never be too sure which day will be your last. Personally, I hope mine is at least one day after Shredder guts Dawn," he said harshly. Realizing his anger had bubbled once more, he did his best to calm it. Lilycove? he pondered. I never saw her around. "You know, it's funny that you say you're from Lilycove. I lived there most of my life, actually," he said quickly, trying to brighten the mood. "Hey, do you remember the Department Store? And I mean before it became one of those Conclaves. All the PokeDolls and TMs... It was a Trainer's dream. And the view from the lighthouse is what I remember best. Going up there with my brother... Those are some of my favorite memories of what used to be my home."
  6. Jacob nodded. "Right! Don't worry, though. I'll be back soon." He smiled at Kristen and then went back over to Alastair, meeting up with the rest of the team.
  7. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD there goes my lunch
  8. Jory chuckled lightly and looked backward, noticing the newcomer. "He's right, Carissa. In cold weather like this you want to stay moving, but make sure you don't break a sweat. That'll just make you colder." He looked over to Miki. At least she's opening up a little. It's nice to have normal conversations with people. Not like the ones at the briefings or the Gyms. He nodded at what Carissa had said as well. "Some people have a much harder time coping with loss. But then again, some of us have lost more than others," he added sadly. He then brightened up lightly as he noticed Shredder keenly watching Raito and Lobo. "Hey, buddy, want to go play?" The Zangoose looked at his Trainer incredulously. "When's the next time you're going to get to?" Jory asked Shredder. With that, Shredder seemed to think for a moment, then bounded off and tackled Lobo to the ground, rolling playfully in the snow. Jory turned back to Carissa. "Where did you live before all this? It's not every day I meet someone who's trained another Hoenn native."
  9. Nah, Lux already had an extraction plan. He's the commander of this operation, so he's gonna stick to his plan until things start to go south.
  10. Oh, the woes of having a lot of interaction with an NPC ;(
  11. Lux nodded to the Bartender. Just like his file says. An incredible negotiator who's able to empathize with any Awakened. He then nodded to Anver, extending his hand. "Well, as long as we're partnering up I might as well introduce myself. I'm Photon, and I suppose you could say I'm the field commander of this operation," he said calmly. "My partner's upstairs. Give me a moment." He turned away and lifted his arm up, speaking into his wristwatch. "Bev, it's time to go. Rendevous with us at the servants' exit. Photon out," he said quickly. "She should be on her way to the extraction point. Once we all get there, we'll have more time to chat. Let's go," he said to the two older men. He began to walk briskly to the other end of the bar, pushing through a door with a now-damaged sign that saying No Entry. The door led to a kitchen. However, in the panic most of the staff had left the room. He proceeded to walk through the area and out another door that led to a small dining room. He took a quick right turn and entered a smaller door that led to a narrow passageway lined with rooms on either side. He hung the first left and hustled toward the door at the end, waiting for the other two to catch up. He then lifted his arm again, speaking into his watch. "Bev, we're at the extraction point. Get here!" he said hurriedly. He then pulled a flip phone out of a pocket on the left inside pocket of his suit jacket, pressing the first speed dial. "Mr. Sterling, it's Photon. We're at the extraction point waiting for Bev. Have Blue on standby."
  12. Dru nudged Helzebeth gently, indicating his burning desire to get the hell away from the Grave Earth. He then spoke up once more, offering a smile to Cookie. "I think we'll take your advice now and be on our way. Good luck finding Curfew. For what it's worth, I hope you find him before Ashnard's men. If he's as dangerous as you say, well... Let's just say I'd like to see to it that he doesn't stay around these parts much longer." With that, Dru beckoned to the rest of the group. "Come on. We'd best be on our way. Cookie is right. It's dangerous to sit here and chat like old maids."
  13. Jacob nodded, a bit crestfallen but understanding how Kristen must be feeling after such a traumatic incident. He looked at her and smiled, his cheeks turning beet red. "Well... Uh... um... I'm really glad you're okay. I was really worried about you when they told us that your group hadn't gotten back yet," he said quietly. Arete looked up at her Trainer and booped him on the nose again. However, this time Jacob laughed lightly and tickled the Togepi's stomach, eliciting a fit of giggling and flailing around.
  14. Jacob looked toward the rest of the group, wondering about the lack of volunteers. He quickly excused himself from Alastair's side and jogged over to Kristen. "Hey," he said quietly, his cheeks turning slightly red. "Uh... So I'm going to go with Alastair to look for Evan. And since no one else seems to want to go with him, I thought maybe you might want to," he managed to get out. "I mean... Uh... With me. And with him. To do the thing," he said, shutting up before he started to ramble.
  15. Jory shook his head, glaring at Adam. "I don't get what crawled up his ass, but don't worry. There were a ton of people in that room and Adam only introduced himself to two or three before huffing and puffing and going on his merry way." He then looked toward Carissa. "I don't believe we've been introduced. Jory," he said, offering his hand.
  16. There goes a funny scene that I'd planned for later >> Shredder's love of mittens actually came in handy though, so that's an unexpected bonus.
  17. Jory looked over his shoulder and shook his head, disturbed that Miki had forgotten to bring gloves. Did she think we were vacationing in Pacifidlog Town or something? he wondered, amazed that someone could be going to Snowpoint City and not dress warmly. He once again sighed heavily and reached into an inner pocket of his coat, taking out a heavy pair of mittens. So much for Shredder's pair, he thought to himself. He'll be fine with his fur. He does love mittens, though. The Trainer stopped and waited for the girls to catch up, then held the mittens out to Miki. "I brought these for Shredder, but he'll be fine without them. Next time make sure you come prepared," he said sternly. Shredder appeared to glare at Miki, but in actuality was looking angrily at the mittens. Jory noticed this and flicked him on the ear, causing him to snap out of it and rub his head. "Don't scare the girl just because she got your mittens. I know you like how they feel, but her not getting frostbite is more important."
  18. Jory sighed as nodded to Fria, then signaled to Shredder to follow. His goggles bobbed against his chest as they hung freely from his neck, an identical pair in an inside pocket of his jacket for Shredder to wear when it began to snow. His feet crunched softly through the snow as he trudged through it, the Zangoose doing his best to follow in his Trainer's footsteps to avoid having to blaze the trail himself.
  19. Lux... No, Photon, looked toward the stranger once more. He saw more than simple emotion in the man's eyes. He saw conflict, and ultimately hope. And that made Photon smile. However, upon hearing the name Utopia, his good mood immediately turned sour. "Yes, I've heard of them. They were in the files I was given, although I didn't have enough time to read all of them before we left for the mission." As such, he turned toward the Bartender. "But from what I do know, you're not far off. They're a supremacist group like the Ku Klux Klan, but instead of being racially oriented they believe the Awakened are the future of mankind. Bartender, can you shed any more light on them?" he asked the senior operative, Photon's lack of experience making him feel quite under the older man's command despite their actual ranks.
  20. Yeah, I'm not sure why either xD I'm excited for the parts where Lux gets to issue ultimatums to people. That's a driving character trait of his, especially since he acquired his powers.
  21. Lux fixed the Bartender with a suspicious look, darting his eyes toward the other Awakened. "When we're in the field, I'm Photon," Lux stated matter-of-factly. He then continued, "In all the chaos, we didn't have time to get properly introduced. But what I do know is that my 'friend' here is an Awakened. With... heat powers?" he asked questioningly, looking toward the stranger. "He seems to be able to manipulate temperature to make it hotter. At least, that's what I gathered from watching him at work." He stayed conspicuously quiet about Beverly. If this comes down to a confrontation, I don't want him knowing where to find her. "I was hoping that we might be able to convince him to come with us, whatever his reasons are for being here. And, should he agree, I'm sure my partner would be able to verify that he wanted to come of his own accord, and not for some ulterior motive," he said pointedly. "But I digress. We've acquired the intel that we came for. We should high-tail it out of here before those Olympus fellows start asking questions."
  22. Lux was indeed following the strange man. However, the more intently the man ran toward the Bartender and the more tables he flipped, the more sure he became of one thing: the Stranger's power had something to do with heat manipulation. He's using updrafts to knock over tables and he's probably tracing the Bartender's heat signature. But how is he distinguishing it from the others? he thought to himself. I'll need to figure that out soon. Judging by how fast he knew which way to go, he's been watching the Bartender. For better or worse, I don't know, but I'd better be prepared for a fight. He continued toward the bar, scanning the room and hoping he'd be able to spot the Bartender early enough to signal him about the impending danger.
  23. @rustytengo I hope you don't feel like I sidelined you. I'm just not sure of how capable Beverly is in combat (and neither is Lux), so logically the safest thing just then would be to stay in the area that isn't... well... exploding, you know?
  24. Lux ran into the room. "Beverly, I'm going to find the Bartender. Stay put," he commanded, running out of the room. He jumped off the balcony and latched onto the floor from the other side of the railing with both hands. From there, he swung himself down to the floor and scanned the area. Where is he? he wondered, beginning to move toward the bar. Suddenly, a table lifted off the ground without any visible prompting and fell on its side. The suspicious man from earlier seemed to be hiding behind it. He's been at the bar all night! He'll at least know where the 'barkeep' is, he thought to himself, beginning to run for the cover. He mussed his hair and suit and rolled into cover beside the man, pretending to breathe heavily. "Excuse me, sir, but I'm looking for my uncle! He was-," he rambled, cutting himself off. Why is it so damn hot over here? The events of the past couple of seconds replayed in his head. Tables flying off the floor, excessive heat... Oh, I've really stepped in it now. He's Awakened. The young man shook his head, clearing his thoughts. There's no time for fun and games now, he realized. "Look, I know you're an Awakened. It's not every day tables fly off the floor and a sauna appears just under it. I don't know what your power is, and I don't care. The important thing," he said as he lifted his hand, generating an orb of light that glinted on his bright orange eyes, "is that you're not alone. There are more of us just like you. If you can help me find the barkeep, we can help keep you safe. We can help you find whatever answers you're looking for. But right now, we need your help. Are you in?" he asked, another orb of light forming in his other hand.
  25. Jacob followed Alastair and, finally catching up to him at the edge of the camp, pumped his fist in determination while holding Arete in his other arm. "Alastair, let me come with you! I caught Spitfyre here! He knows his way around pretty well, and my team and I can take on any challenge that's thrown at us. Please, let us help," he nearly begged, wanting more than anything to be useful in this time of crisis. "I can't sit idly by while one of my classmates is in danger. I know what he looks like, so I can help on that front too," he added.
