Bug Monotype run of Reborn (Latest Defeated Leader: Amaria)

I agree about shuckle. Power trick is something that makes shuckle too OP. It can easily take down the greatest weakness of your bugs which is fire with power trick + stone edge. But I guess it would be boring sweeping all Pokemon with one bug.😅

@DemICE Thanks for the kind words! And I'm glad you enjoy it! The reason for not having screenshots is because I was playing on my laptop, and F8 was preassigned to volume change, so it was a pain to Print Screen all the time... I also didn't have any good recording program spotted/installed back then... But I'm glad that lack of screenshots doesn't make it any less fun to read! (Also, us Greeks know best what a LoL flamer REALLY looks and feels like, so you understand my feelings best!)

I'm mildly weirded out that you didnt't opt on sleep powder + quiver dance combos.  I mean, Braveheart and Fiery Wings have quiver dance, but not sleep powder,  and  Generosity has Sleep Powder, but no quiver dance. With compoundeyes,  the first two would have been able to sweep a lot of stuff very easily.

This is very true. I considered using Sleep Powder/Q.Dance/Compound Eyes combos, but this was what carried me with my Butterfree in my second playthrough (shiny playthrough) that I did before! So, I wanted to try different ways of utilizing Butterfree. Tailwind support/Tinted Lens battle cleanup has worked perfectly well for me as well, and I also found Electroweb very useful in crippling down fast enemies after possibly tanking a hit after Q.Dance boost with a supereffective-weakening berry!

I kept Sleep Powder on my Venomoth mostly because all other possible moves it could learn till Q.Dance were underwhelming, or Attack-based (which isn't Vanomoth's good point...). It proved to be quite good, but I'd definitely try something else on Venomoth next time. Without Quiver Dance, it feels a bit underwhelming.

Also i'd like to point out that you have missed the god,  Shuckle, that is able to be found by rock smashing on the spot where Kiki was lecturing.   This unparallelled beast swept Hardcore Aya by spamming Rock Slide after a Power Trick,  but i havent progressed much more on that run yet. I expect even more accomplishments from it in the future.

Indeed, I haven't used Shuckle, even though I considered it. But I wanted a Toxic stall beast with Rest, Wrap, Toxic and Sleep Talk... And I couldn't teach it Sleep Talk or Toxic... I haven't considered Power Trick! It would make Shuckle an offensive beast, but wouldn't it still get outsped by everything and become a glass cannon too after swapping its Defence with its Attack? Unless of course it faces Special Attacking teams, then it would have a chance to survive, even if it got outsped. Was that the case for you? How did you make it work without getting OHKO'ed right after setting up Power Trick?

So, I'd have to find ways to protect him all the time, or Baton Pass him speed, which isn't my style... But I'd like to make it work someday! :)

Edit: @rayyan No way Shuckle would've swept Charlotte without Trick Room. By the way, even without Shuckle, I swept her with Crustle... And it wasn't boring at all.. :P  Check it out! xD

No, nothing like that, it's just that hardcore aya only has one physical attacker, which is her Drapion which appears later in the battle.  And even then it opted for ... Poison tail on my shuckle.   I had paired it with a Heal Pulse Blissey so it had no issues spamming rock slide in every round.  But i think it would have pulled its weight just fine even if i just used rest sometimes, because really aya's special attackers were doing so low damage to it.  Seeing as you have a bug monorun, you could have found other mons that would support shukle while rock-sliding with other ways.

Oh, then it makes sense! Yes, there are so many interesting strategies to implement in Doubles. However I find Shuckle to be a bit lackluster in Single Battles, which is why I haven't used it. It either needs a team to revolve around it with setting up moves and Baton passing everything to it, or be lucky to only face Special Attackers in order to be able to survive after Power Trick.

In my battle vs Charlotte, I did something similar with what you did vs Aya, a solid strategy and a sweep. Feel free to check it out ;)

Your strategy was epic👌👌. Shell smash + rockslide was awesome while staying protected. That's way too cool.

I think a shuckle with power trick+ rock slide could've taken crustles role but I guess shell smash on crustle has a lesser chance of failing. BTW have you beaten Ciel with a similar strategy o-O

Quite clever how you handled Terra and her absurdly nicknamed pokes, dat Garchomp is broken as it already is

By the way, can I suggest using one of my personal faves (recently) - Escavalier? That thing is a boss with its incredible attack stat and weakness to only Fire-type moves.

Request granted. Escavalier will probably be used in Episode 16 happenings! Already EV trained, just gotta level her up :)

I want to have your babies right now That is beyond amazing. If you want to break the game completely, use Trick Room and it'll turn into a devastating killing-machine with no mercy.

I'd love to, but there are literally zero Bug Pokemon that can learn Trick Room, so, this cannot be done in my Bug Mono... :(

Unfortunate. Oh well, Escavalier is strong enough as it is even without it with its numerous resistances.

Yep, all I had to do was EV train her fully in HP and Attack. With its amazing defences and typing, it will be more than easy to tank a couple of hits and retaliate after setting up Swords Dance.

Adrienn will have a hard time...

CHAPTER 30: Maginot Line

With the proper guidance from expert strategist, Florinia, we establish the first line of defence with her, while Titania looks after Amaria as she is still unconscious and Julia holds the North-East entrances. We can say we are pretty much surrounded, as Solaris walks in like it is his place, from the front door, and demands that we surrender the Sapphire Bracelets and they will retreat, leaving us unharmed. Of course, we have no intention of doing that, so he orders his grunts to attack.

First, we have to fight together with Florinia against Meteor Grunts Diana and Kenan, which is pretty much uneventful, even though they have a Noctowl, a Darmanitan, a Golem and a Manectric among others, mons that could potentially give us trouble, but they can't do actually much. After all, they are just grunts.

Then, from the front Sirius drags in Fern, pretending that he is taken hostage. We whisper in Florinia's ear about how Fern boasted for siding with the winners at the encounter we had through the Calcenon-Labradorra City barrier, to which she nods and sighs... She knew her brother was an asshole, but couldn't believe he now was a criminal. So, their bluff is revealed and Fern faces us, together with Blake, who managed to breach from Julia's defences and seal her outside the East entrance with an Ice Beam on it from his Walrein. This is expected to be slightly harder than the previous fight... The worst part was that I had to win 3 battles in a row, so I needed a team to cope with all 3 double battles (well, 2, first one could be won by any team I used).

My team:

heracross.gif

Sir Galahad, the Heracross (Male)

Jolly/Moxie (Item: Fist Plate)

Bullet Seed

Close Combat

Megahorn

Rock Blast

leavanny.gif

Affection, the Leavanny (Female)

Quirky/Chlorophyll (Item: Scope Lens)

X-Scissor

Leaf Blade

Fell Stinger

Swords Dance

armaldo.gif

Courage, the Armaldo (Male)

Jolly/Swift Swim (Item: Sea Incense)

Knock Off

X-Scissor

Aqua Jet

Rock Blast

galvantula.gif

Gaia, the Galvantula (Female)

Modest/Unnerve (Item: Zap Plate)

Thunder Wave

Discharge

Bug Buzz

Hidden Power Ground

durant.gif

Humbleness, the Durant (Male)

Jolly/Swarm (Item: Ground Gem)

Iron Head

Crunch

X-Scissor

Dig

volcarona.gif

Passion, the Volcarona (Male)

Timid/Flame Body (Item: Wide Lens)

Heat Wave

Bug Buzz

Hurricane

Quiver Dance

So, after like a gazillion failed attempts, I assembled a well-rounded team with as much coverage as possible. And because I wanted to humiliate the people who gave me hell, I went for fast hard hitter that can snowball like nothing else. Yes, screw stalling and strategic plays. I was so mad for being unable to defeat these people that I wanted to kill everything they had. And losing all your mons and having to watch Julia 1v1 Solaris' Garchomp is the worst thing ever happened to me. @Wolfox, @HongaarseBeer, if I had to describe all my failed attempts it would take like 10 more pages in this Topic. Also, they can be summed up in the phrase, "get focused by enemies as your teammates use pointless attacks, get swept, then watch as your teammate gets 1v2'ed".

OK, without further ado... FIGHT #1 (vs Grunts) --> Not describing it, stuff like Sir Galahad Moxie sweep enhanced by Passion's clean up happened.

VS FERN BLAKE

The dumbasses send in Haxorus and Walrein respectively, I send in Heracross and Florinia sends in her Hippowdon, who creates a sandstorm, which isn't particularly beneficial to my Bugs. Heracross OHKO'es Blakes Walrein with Close Combat and gets 1 Moxie boost, but -1 in Defence and Sp.Defence. Haxorus Dragon Dances, but Hippowdon Yawns it.

Blake sends in his Rotom-Freezer-something. Haxorus Superpowers my Sir Galahad, but it is not very effective and does about 3/4 of Heracross' HP. Then, Heracross Close Combats Rotom-Freeze, OHKO'ing it, getting another Moxie boost, and now a -2 in Defence and Sp. Defence. Hippowdon Crunches the Haxorus, dealing some damage to it. In the end of turn, Haxorus falls asleep because of Yawn.

Blake sends in Mamoswine. Haxorus remains asleep. Another Close Combat OHKO'es Mamoswine, +3 Attack, -3 Defences for Sir Galahad. Another Crunch by Hippowdon, combined with another turn of Sandstorm damage finally takes out Haxorus. This isn't necessarily good, because now Heracross is fragile as glass and is forced to pick one target among two that are not asleep. Oh well.

Fern sends in Rhyperior and Blake sends in Weavile. Weavile Ice Shards Sir Galahad (sadly) and takes it out. Then Rhyperior Earthquakes and takes out both Blake's Weavile and Florinia's Hippowdon. Good teamwork Fern!

I decide to send in Affection, to take care of Rhyperior. Blake sends in Jynx and Florinia sends in Torterra. Leavanny OHKO'es Rhyperior with a critical Leaf Blade, but then Jynx OHKO'es both Leavanny and Torterra with Blizzard. FML.

Fern sends in Scizor and Florinia sends in Breloom. I send in Passion, my Volcarona. A Heat Wave absolutely destroys both Scizor and Jynx.

Fern's Roserade and Blake's Froslass come in. Another Heat Wave OHKO'es Froslass, Roserade survives with red HP though and OHKO'es Breloom with Extrasensory. I begin to feel like I'm fighting on my own here.

Blake is out of mons and benched as Florinia sends in Ferrothorn. Why not send it in earlier and help me vs these Ice types with Gyro Ball Florinia?... Anyways, another Heat Wave takes out Roserade too.

In the next turns Blake's Krookodile and Serperior are taken out by a Bug Buzz and the combined power of Bug Buzz and Gyro Ball.

This victory was easy, like every time. Thank God Sir Galahad, Affection and Passion outsped every single thing in Fern's team (well, besides Dragon Dance Haxorus) and Blake's team (well, besides Weavile) and swept them. Then, Fern's last two mons were easy to 2v1. Turns out Moxie Heracross is OP vs Ice types, when a good support, like Yawn Hippowdon, is provided. Also, Volcarona with Heat Wave in a double battle vs Grass (plus Scizor) and Ice specialists is kind of the bane of their existence. Anyways, the big fight is the next one...

Julia manages to break through the icy doorblock that Blake's Walrein used to seal her out, and she pushes Blake down the first floor! xD

Then, Sirius has his Seviper use Poison Fang on Florinia herself, incapacitating her... But Julia counter attacks and incapacitates Sirius by having her Electrode directly attack him! That's my girl, boom their faces Julia! And now we have to face Solaris with the assistance of Julia!

VS SOLARIS NEW WORLD ORDERLY JOHN

Solaris starts with Scizor and John with Whiscash. Julia sends in her Electrode and I send in Sir Galahad. Electrode Thunderbolts Scizor, getting it down to about 60% of its HP. Then, my Heracross Bullet Seeds Whiscash, which hits 3 times and annihilates it, being 4 times effective. Scizor uses Superpower on Heracross, dealing no damage and getting -1 in Attack and Defence. I'm glad with that, let's focus John, since Solaris' Scizor is now rendering itself useless!

In the next turn, John sends in his Kecleon. Electrode Thunderbolts Scizor again taking down to low yellow HP and Sir Galahad Close Combats Kecleon to oblivion (+2 Attack now, -1 Defences), before Electrode tanks easily another Superpower by Scizor.

John sends in Slowbro. Electrode destroys Scizor with another Thunderbolt, bringing tears to my eyes, because we now lose the advantage of having a useless, self-debuffed pokemon inside on behalf of Solaris. Heracross Megahorns Slowbro to oblivion as well, getting his Attack to a humungous +3 thanks to Moxie.

My troubles begin then. Solaris sends in Tyranitar and John sends in Eelektross, which is a no-weakness mon that hit hard as hell and tanks everything. Tyranitar also creates a sandstorm. Electrode for some reason Thunderbolts the Eelektross, doing nothing, then Sir Galahad OHKO'es Tyranitar with Close Combat. +4 Attack, -2 Defences. And, of course, John's Eelektross will destroy my Heracross with its own Thunderbolt.

Solaris sends in his Sand Rush Excadrill, which of course is a deja vu from Terra's fight. He must be her godfather or something. I send in Humbleness, my Durant. Excadrill (of course) outspeeds and Swords Dances! Calm down for God's sake. Electrode keeps trying to Thunderbolt Eelektross in vain... Then, my Durant Digs and gets saved by Eelektross' menacing Flamethrower. However, the Sandstorm damage, combined with the damage Electrode had sustained by the Scizor, finally take down the lovely electrified ball of doom... RIP you will be missed (thank God you didn't make it Explode in my face, or I'd murder you Julia).

In the next turn, Julia sends in Rotom-Fan, which gets immediately annihilated by Excadrill's (Swords Dance boosted) Rock Slide, which however misses my steel ant, who is still buried underground. Then,Durant uses a Ground Gem-boosted Dig on Excadrill, bringing it to red HP. Sadly though, my Humbleness gets heroically murdered by Eelektross' Flamethrower.

I send in Courage, my Armaldo, and Julia sends in her own Eelektross! Courage uses Aqua Jet and finishes off Excadrill (finally!), while Julia's Eelektross tanks easily a Flamethrower by John's one. Then, Julia's Eelektross uses Acid Spray on John's Eelektross, getting its Sp. Defence to -2.

Solaris sends in Gyarados and I try to Rock Blast it with my Courage. However, a Waterfall by Gyarados will OHKO my Armaldo, while (for some weird reason) Julia's and John's Eelektross'es exchange Acid Spray and Thunderbolt respectively. (Julia, please light the flying fish up with a Thunderbolt, ffs...)

I send in Gaia, my Galvantula. Gaia uses Discharge, which deals respectable damage to John's Eelektross (thanks to -4 Sp. Defence debuff) and OHKO'es Gyarados. However it does almost nothing to Julia's Eelektross (it's now at about 40% HP). John's Eelektross then gets finished off by a Flamethrower from Julia's one.

Solaris sends in Mandibuzz and John sends in Magnezone. Gaia Discharges again, and gets Mandibuzz to red, does next to nothing to Magnezone and Eelektross though. However, Mandibuzz Foul Plays and finishes off Julia's Eelektross. Then Magnezone uses Flash Cannon on Gaia, getting her to just below half HP.

But then, Julia sends in her Magnezone too! Gaia Discharges again, removing Mandibuzz, and (oh-what-a-surprise) deals no damage to the 2 Magnezones. John's one Flash Cannon's Gaia again, finishing off my Galvantula, and then Julia's one Thunderbolts, dealing about 25% of the other one's HP, which is now at just below half health.

Finally, Solaris sends in the raidboss, his murdering Garchomp. It is the only thing they have left, but it is quite OP! I send in Passion, my Volcarona and Hurricane the dumb Dragon, who doesn't gets confused. However, Stone Edge proves its Stone Miss nickname and fails to hit my Volcarona! Then, Magnezone Flash Cannon's the shark for negligible damage (now at just above half HP), but lowers its Sp. Defence by 1 stage. In the next turn, another Hurricane deals more damage this time, but fails (again) to confuse, and this time Stone Edge destroys Passion... Magnezone Flash Cannons again, getting Garchomp down in red.

I send in Affection, my Leavanny, who outspeeds and finishes off Garchomp with a (needlessly) critical Leaf Blade!

Battle is won! The Meteors try to burn the house with Sirius' Chandelure. Sirius reveals that he was the one who burnt down the Belrose Manse (in order to get the Sapphire Bracelets from their former owner, Laura), and not Charlotte and her Vulpix. Hence, he is the murderer of Saphira, Laura and Charlotte's parents. However, Titania's Excadrill Fissures and turns the Gym into a Swimming pool straight out of the Olympic Games, preventing Sirius from incinerating it! Team Meteor's officials realize that they lost and retreat. Then Amaria wakes up, but she has suffered a memory loss, forgetting everything since before the PULSE Tangrowth crisis in Obsidia... This gets Titania desperate, because she is back into the living lie that her life was before Amaria discovered about Titania's true feelings for their relationship. Titania then flies off on her Skarmory towards her Gym probably, at Tourmaline desert. She also takes the Sapphire Bracelets with her, to keep them safe from Team Meteor. However, she is a bit suspicious. Didn't assist us in fighting, apart from when everything was over, and we can't be sure that she gives false intel to Team Meteor during their secret meetings. But oh well... We'll see eventually which side is she on...

In the next chapter, we will battle Ciel and win our next badge to enable Fly outside of battle! And return to a (changed?) Reborn City...

Till then, enjoy everyone! :);)

Yes! I'll have mixed feelings when this ends! Well, Ciel is the bane of my existence, but I've managed to defeat her! However, Adrienn shouldn't be that hard (too many Steel and Poison Bugs)... Currently training up to begin with the Devon Arc and finally record it and grab some screenshots too.

I already know that taking out Gardevoir with Ariados' Cross Poison won't work because I will surely get Psychic'ed to oblivion first! xD

So, yes, I understand exactly what you mean by that!

CHAPTER 31: Waltzing through the Clouds

So, after withstanding the combined attack of almost all forces of Team Meteor, Florinia (after she proves herself to be OK despite of Seviper's Poison Fang) decides to go help at Calcenon, in hopes of encountering Fern and having a chance to mend things. Then, we leave Julia to take care of Amaria, since Titania already departed, and decide to follow Julia's advice. Go beat wild Seel till one drops a badge back to Agate Circus and fight Ciel for our thirteenth badge!

We find out by Samson and Ciel that they have zero news about Terra (if it was up to me, I'd make a format to that PC while she is still inside, and not keep any backups), but I don't give a damn about her, so I challenge Ciel. The Ringmaster says that this would boost greatly the Circus income, but I can't fight her since I don't have a Battle-League Pass for Ciel. But then, Ciel decides to "secretely" slip me one right in front of Ringmaster's eyes, who just sighs and goes with the flow, allowing us to battle the mighty Skydancer!

So, without further ado... Pray for my Bugs' souls...

VS CIEL

My team consisted of:

crustle.gif

Protection, the Crustle (Male)

Jolly/Sturdy (Item: Custap Berry)

Shell Smash

Rock Slide

X-Scissor

Stealth Rock

durant.gif

Humbleness, the Durant (Male)

Jolly/Swarm (Item: Metal Coat)

Iron Head

X-Scissor

Dig

Crunch

masquerain.gif

Kindness, the Masquerain (Male)

Naive/Intimidate (Item: Sea Incense)

Hydro Pump

Bug Buzz

Air Slash

Quiver Dance

volcarona.gif

Passion, the Volcarona (Male)

Timid/Flame Body (Item: Coba Berry)

Heat Wave

Hurricane

Bug Buzz

Quiver Dance

armaldo.gif

Courage, the Armaldo (Male)

Jolly/Swift Swim (Item: Metronome)

Rock Blast

Aqua Jet

X-Scissor

Knock Off

vivillon-meadow.gif

Fiery Wings, the Vivillon (Male)

Naive/Compound Eyes (Item: Sharp Beak)

Hurricane

Draining Kiss

Bug Buzz

Quiver Dance

So, I decide to lead with Protection, knowing that I have a Flinch-kiss to deal with. I go for Shell Smash, get Air Slashed, Protection gets to just below half HP, but miraculously he escapes the flinch, getting a nice +2 in Atk. and Speed. Rock Slide in next turn OHKOs the Togekiss.

Ciel sends in her Archeops and I reply with Humbleness, who outspeeds the ancient flying rock of doom and oneshots it with Iron Head.

Then, all the trouble starts. Noivern goes in, I know it outspeeds my entire team even if I bring concorde back of retirement and put them in first class seats, so I send in Courage (I needed it). Courage lives after a Heat Wave with just 3 HP and proceeds to Rock Blast the dragon for 4 hits, taking it down. Even if this wasnot the case, Ciel would've healed and Metronome boosted Rock Blast would've done the trick.

After that, Gliscor comes in. I know it has Acrobatics, so I send in Kindness, for a nice Intimidate debuff. However Masquerain is slow as fuck (please episode 17 and Gen VII come fast!), and frail as well, so it goes down without even getting the chance to try to Hydro Pump the flying scorpion. Then, it is Fiery Wings' turn. It Hurricanes the Gliscor, getting it to yellow HP, but failing to get the confusion. Vivillon goes down to Acrobatics. But even worse, Poison Heal (OP AF) takes Gliscor's health bar high enough to be in green and out of Hyper Potion AI choice. Passion needs to finish the job (and prove why it is Overpowered). One Heat Wave gets it to red, and Coba Berry weakens the Acrobatics, enabling my Flaming Moth to survive with 10 HP. Knowing that Ciel will heal I go for Quiver Dance which gives a +2 in Speed and Specials, thanks to the circus (GOD BLESS!). Passion then proceeds to OHKO Gliscor with another Heat Wave.

Then, Talonflame came in. I switched to my Protection, who was at just below half HP after murdering the flinch-kiss. A Flare Blitz takes him to 2 HP, but fails to burn (thank God), and mercifully my Rock Slide connects to send Talonflame packing.

Now, only Mega-Altaria! Knowing that it is Fairy-Dragon, I send in Durant, who is still at full HP. One Iron Head takes 3/4 of Altaria's HP, Durant tanks a Hyper Voice by surviving with about 25 HP and Iron Heads Altaria again to give me the much desired victory!

At last, time to Fly (fuck walking) back to Reborn and see what Adrienn has done...

(PHEW!!!)

So, after catching a Rufflet, cause the only Bug that can Fly for some weird reason is Volcarona (and I'm not wasting a moveslot in Passion's moveset for Fly), we Fly back to Reborn City... Which at last fits its name! Reborn in every aspect! Good job Adrienn! :)

In the next chapter, we will continue with the story and wander wherever we have to go, after a visit to the Grand Hall...

Till then, enjoy everyone! ;):)

Geez, I already feel overloaded with my 12 Ground Types and you're running twice the number. ;P

Also gonna second the suggestion to screenshot the coming battles. It's just nicer to actually see the combatants, especially the various Shinys you have.
