"Sorry, Eclipse looks like you're on your own."

Plot

After their home planet was destroyed by the Resanti and the Grand Assembly refused to send aid, the crew of the Eclipse struck out on their own to seek revenge. Though most of their Strikers and Interceptors had been destroyed, the crew of the Eclipse managed to make a living and a name for themselves defending neutral systems against pirates and running errands for the Llima empire. Along the way they made new allies out of skilled Striker and Interceptor pilots who joined their cause. These pilots are you, the players, though your backgrounds vary, each of you is a skilled pilot who, whatever your reason may be, has joined the Eclipse in her quest for vengeance.

This RP will focus on a mixture of freeform space battles and venturing the galaxy dealing with politics and mystery.

Immediately Relevant Spacecraft

The Eclipse

Spoiler

A Drasian assault carrier designed to combat pirate fleets. One of the best ships in the Drasian fleet, manned by an elite and loyal crew.

A rather triangular ship with the tip cut off to leave a large hanger door. The surface is dotted with various greebles. The primary engines are at the back, with various maneuvering thrusters mounted elsewhere on the body. (It's a star destroyer without a nose or the stuff on top okay?)

The Eclipse has a slightly below-average carrying capacity of 30. Though Drasians value quality over quantity, and it's actually a bit above-average by their standards.

Strikers

Spoiler

Giant humanoid suits form the backbone of space-age warfare. Due to a deterioration of ship-to-ship combat as defensive measures have become more effective at deterring attacks, the use of Strikers has become a ship's standard method of attacking foes. Strikers are able to close in and take out key targets on an enemy ship from its surface or even from inside. They take they form of giant robots to allow for increased flexibility in their operation and adapt quickly to any situation.

The average Striker is a 10 meter tall behemoth built to tear into an enemy ship's weak points or even punch holes straight in their hulls. They tend to struggle to perform complex maneuvers without losing their balance, and when it comes to dogfighting they're far inferior to Interceptors. But they make up for their shortcomings with the ability for a single well-trained pilot to take out multiple warships over the course of an extended battle.

Due to the importance of Strikers in combat, most ships possess some form of carrier capability. However there are still ships built purely for ship-to-ship combat, though they will generally serve merely as escort craft for a larger carrier.

Interceptors

Spoiler

Though initially phased out in favor of Strikers, starfighters proved to have a key advantage in dogfighting that brought them back as an important defensive tool. Interceptors are high-speed fighter craft built to live up to their name and intercept incoming Strikers before they can land and start raising hell. As well they can be used as an escort for allied Strikers by distracting or shooting down enemy Interceptors. A talented pilot with a well-outfit craft can outperform fifty average pilots in a mass-produced craft.

Interceptors have a lot more variance in design than Strikers, but due to standardized hangars, most are around 12 meters in length. They are usually highly maneuverable but carry few defenses, focusing on rapidly destroying enemy Strikers before they have a chance to strike back.

A ship will usually dedicate around a third to 2/5ths of its carrying capacity to Interceptors

Galactic Powers

The Grand Assembly

Spoiler

A highly expansionist nation governed by a representative democracy.

In the Assembly, the number of votes a member planet has on any given issue is determined by its exports. Planets with basic exports have less votes than those with industrial exports.

Despite of the Assembly's expansionist nature, it struggles to maintain a hold on territory due to rampant piracy. A large amount of fleet resources must be dedicated to every newly conquered planet to prevent pirates from ravaging it, preventing further expansion in the meantime.

The Llima Empire

Spoiler

A small but well-defended empire, ruled by Empress Celine IV and governed by an extensive court system.

The citizens of the Llima Empire consider serving in the navy to be a high honor. All citizens are given military training and most serve a tour on a starship. Their large navy and the small territory helps mitigate the problem of piracy.

Though not strictly isolationist, the Llima Empire is hesitant to compromise its safety by aiding neutral systems or allowing them to join the empire.

The Resanti

Spoiler

A race of cyborgs government by a central intelligence. They've recently begun a war against the Gran Assembly, with Drasis being one of their first targets.

Not much is known about the Resanti, they've existed for thousands of years and their origins are long-forgotten. Outwardly the appear human, but their bodies are more machine than man. Those unfortunate enough to be caught in their path are assimilated into the collective, their minds overtaken and their bodies altered.

Luckily for the galaxy, the Resanti experience the same issue with piracy that the Assembly does, preventing them from expanding and consuming everything.

Neutral Systems and Pirates

Spoiler

The majority of systems in the galaxy are neutral, holding no ties to any of the three major powers (especially not the Resanti). However, this also means they have no protection against the massive amount of piracy that plagues the galaxy, which in turn feeds that piracy.

Though none as big as the three powers, there are many groups of organized pirates who effectively own chunks of the galaxy by extorting (or in a couple cases, actually ruling and governing) groups of systems. However, power shifts rapidly among pirates, making their territory highly unstable at best.

Mechanics

Combat

Spoiler

Combat in this RP will be all about Strikers trying to get onto ships. Striker Pilots will deploy and make their way through a swarm of enemy Interceptors to land on an enemy hull and then start causing havoc. Interceptor pilots will try to defend against incoming Strikers. the combat will be totally freeform, with a focus on describing the event rather than presenting a challenge. Keep in mind that Striker and Interceptors are primarily outfit for dealing with enemy ships and Strikers respectively, but should still carry some tools to help them deal with enemy Interceptors as well.

Slots

Spoiler

Strikers and Interceptors will have their capabilities categorized by slots, with five to each. Each slot can hold one device, fitting into one of three types. Note that without taking slots into consideration, both types of craft have a low baseline of thrusters for maneuvering and no weapons or armor.

Weapon: A device meant to deal damage to enemy craft. Can be handheld or fixed mount, with the latter generally being more powerful. Most basic types can be scaled up.

Mobility: A device intended to increase mobility and help travel across the battlefield faster.

Armor: A device intended to increase your defenses against incoming attacks, not necessarily literal armor.

Strikers have one slot dedicated to each type, as well as two variable slots that can hold any type one device. Interceptors have two mobility and one weapon slot by default, also carrying two variable slots.

It is possible to spend two slots on a more powerful device, such as a miniature hyperdrive for mobility or a full shield generator for armor.

Some Basic Weapons and Defenses and Mobility

Weapon Types

Spoiler

Breaching Sword: A long, cone shaped sword or lance that's built to stab ship hulls, caving them in and splitting them open.

Drill: A drill for drilling through ship hulls.

Various Slashing Weapons: A bladed weapon intended to cut through enemy weapon emplacements or Strikers.

Plasma Blowtorch: Creates a short plume of plasma that can be used to melt through ship hulls.

Railgun: Only accurate at short ranges, but deals a lot of damage. Can be mitigated by armor.

Coilgun: 2 slot minimum, accurate at longer ranges that a railgun

Plasma: Accurate at long ranges, weaker damage. Weak against shields.

Laser: Accurate at extremely long ranges, weaker damage. Nullified by shields.

Missile: A guided explosive, slower than other weapons but retains accuracy due to guidance systems. Weak against jammers.

Torpedo: An unguided explosive, deals massive damage but is extremely inaccurate accept at very close ranges.

Defense Types

Spoiler

Jammers: Helps shake off missile locks.

Armor plating: Helps defend against all damage.

Handheld Shield: A metal frame that projects a shield inside it, protecting against Plasma and Lasers.

Full Shield Bubble: 2 slot minimum A full shield generator that projects a bubble around the vessel, protecting it from Plasma and Lasers.

Improved Inertial Dampeners: Necessary for ships that want to pull of extremely sharp manuevers.

Mobility Types

Spoiler

General Thrusters: An upgrade over the very baseline thrusts all Strikers and Interceptors come with, necessary for crossing space with any sort of speed.

Forward Thruster(s): A more powerful forward thruster or array of thrusters.

Maneuvering Thrusters: Thrusters focused on performing bursts of movement that reoriented the craft so that a forward thruster can push it a different direction, rather than shifting its direction themselves.

Hyperdrive Generator: 2 slot minimum. A hyperdrive generator projects a bubble of subspace around the vessel, allowing for FTL travel without a carrier ship.

Notes

All non-military pilots are given an honorary rank of Sergeant for the sake of the chain of command. Those that had a military rank before joining the Eclipse will have their rank respected, unless it was granted by a neutral system.

Follow the standard etiquette stuff (no bunnying, powerplaying, etc), listen to what the GM says, and be polite to your fellow roleplayers. Do those things and all will be well.

If you don't do those things, especially the last one, be prepared to get booted.

Accepted Characters

Rose Cohen

Spoiler

Age: 25

Personality: Rose is an energetic, generally positive young woman. Life is short, so it should be sweet too. She’s fiercely loyal to friends, although she can have difficulty knowing when not to pry, and will do just about whatever is asked of her by them as long as it’s not utterly insane. She also has, for reasons that wouldn’t be obvious to other crew, a seething hate of the Resanti.

Appearance: Rose is a pale skinned, slim, short woman of around an even five feet, with hazel eyes and strawberry-blonde hair of a moderate length, that naturally goes into somewhat wild curls (although she makes some effort at straightening it, when she remembers). Her features are fairly youthful, and when animated by her general energy she can be quite attractive. She tends to wear the standard Assembly navy uniform she was provided with as part of the crew, at least when not going on shore leave - a dark blue button up jacket with the right flap extending a bit over the left, a white dress skirt, and black boots. The uniform has three symbols on it - the symbol for her honorary Assembly rank of Sergeant, as well as the symbol for the Asada-VI navy, and a third, apparently hand-made symbol of unknown meaning.

Background: Rose came aboard the Eclipse with a companion, one Naomi Takahashi. She was a Striker pilot, and her partner an Interceptor, in the military of Asada-VI. The Eclipse came into the system for resupply as a large Pirate force led by a notorious interstellar criminal began to lay siege to the planet. The military force, a mixture of mercenary troops and native born elites, was putting up a fight but unable to compete with the numbers. The Eclipse came to their aid, defeating the pirates. Wishing to join and do good rather than remain in a fairly unimportant star system, the pair lent their skill (and perhaps more importantly, equipment) to the Eclipse.

Striker Name: JS16-EXARCH

Spoiler

Appearance: A 10 meter tall, hulking humanoid mech, as all Strikers are. On the right shoulder of the heavily armored construct is a large, thin mechanism - the HS.7 Railgun, mounted for use while leaving hands free. It has fins stretching from various portions of the chassis, thrusters on the end granting it more maneuverability than standard of Strikers. It narrows slightly around where the waist of a man would be, and one holster on each side is present there, for it’s non-mounted armaments. The primary color of the JS16-EXARCH is green, with red lines cris-crossing the armor.

Weapon Slot: RapidStrike Plasma Repeater - A handheld Plasma Repeater, firing bolts of superheated plasma at high speed, towards either the hull of an enemy capital ship or incoming strike craft.

Armor Slot: M.I.S.T. Signal Scrambler - A signal scrambler meant to make it much harder to target Exarch with missiles and other guided ballistics.

Mobility Slot: Mobility Thrusters - Thrusters strategically placed along the Exarch provide enhanced speed and maneuver capability compared to your standard Striker.

Variable Slot 1 (Weapon): HS.7 Railgun - A shoulder mounted railgun, firing chunks of metal at high speeds for devastating effect on anything that can’t get out of the way.

Variable Slot 2 (Armor): Mk. 16 Guardian Shield: A handheld shield frame that, when activated, deploys an energy shield blocking energy weapons such as plasma.

Naomi Takahashi

Spoiler

Age: 29
Personality: Generally quiet, dutiful, and somewhat somber. Tends toward self-depreciation. Much prefers following to leading. Often the first one to suggest a nonviolent solution, though not hesitant in applying less peaceful solutions when they are clearly needed.

Appearance: Naomi is of a short and fairly slim build, with straight dark hair a few inches past shoulder length; this is often tied back with a simple red ribbon when not worn up as needed. She keeps up with her physical training dutifully, giving her a fairly athletic physique. Her features have been described as princesslike and serene; she is not a particularly expressive individual. Her voice is on the low side of middling in the typical female range. Perhaps most unusual though, are the cat ears and tail she possesses. These are the result of a deal cut in her past; pay for a set of gene mods tailored to space combat by allowing the vendor-researchers access to data on a different set of mods, including acclimatization studies. They are fully functional, and often the only reliable way to read her emotions.

Background: Naomi originally hails from a neutral system by the name of Asada, specifically from the sixth and most readily habitable planetoid (the system is around a class O, i.e. very bright and energetic, star, so the habitable band is quite far out.) It is a (relatively) young colony, settled for the potential riches the system might contain - a fact that is both a blessing and a curse. While it is in theory a rich system, attracting a more-than-fair amount of talent and potentially providing for a strong military, much of it is undeveloped, with the system lacking much in the way of native shipyards or other military manufacture. Naomi had joined the military partly out of filial duty and obligation, and partially due to it being a steady and fairly lucrative job; however, she ran into obstacles along the path. Namely, the system's military tended to be highly selective in both recruitment and advancement (due to the aforementioned lack of spare hardware), and couldn't necessarily spare the resources to facilitate the latter. She ended up striking a deal with the local gene therapy clinic, as mentioned before; get a full suite of piloting-centric mods at a nominal price, in exchange for allowing them to test a different set of mods and their effects on those that got them.

The process of therapy and acclimatization to her new mods was not a particularly short or easy one; learning to interpret multiple new sets of sensory data was not something the human brain was necessarily designed to do, and it took time and effort to get her to that point. During this recovery, however, she met and became fast friends with another individual who seemed to be undergoing passingly similar treatments, one Rose Cohen. Their dissimilar personalities seemed to mesh more than they clashed, and as they were both dismissed from the clinic at roughly the same time, Naomi suggested they follow similar paths, joining the system's military once more. The two served together, fighting off the occasional pirate raiding party, until one appeared that was far too powerful for the system's military to fight by itself; had it not been for the Eclipse's appearance, the system's defense force might have been crushed entirely. In the aftermath of the battle, Rose offered her services to the Eclipse; and, in a mirror to how they had both ended up fighting in the first place, Naomi followed, though she kept her reasons largely to herself.

Interceptor Name: SI11 "Peregrine"

Spoiler

Appearance: A somewhat boxy craft, all things considered, though still aerodynamic enough that it could likely fly through atmosphere without excessive difficulty. It has a squarish, long nose housing the majority of the main cannon with the ammunition stored around said cannon doubling as a small degree of armor. The cockpit is set toward the back of the craft, with camera systems allowing the pilot to look "through" it. To either side of the cockpit are the twin engines and main thrusters, designed to compensate for the recoil forces generated by the firing of the main gun. The wings of the craft are actually equipped for atmospheric flight, and carry sets of maneuvering thrusters with the auxiliary guns mounted on their edges. The stock paint job has been replaced by a pattern of dark blues and grays, designed to blend in with warship hulls and the greater void of space as well as break up the silhouette.

Weapon Slot: SAW34A "Talon" (2 slots):  A spinally mounted coilgun, created for the sole purpose of firing projectiles at the highest velocity manageable within the confines of an interceptor frame at combat-acceptable rates of fire. It is fed by a pair of blocks of ferromagnetic metal, pieces of which are shaved off and then fired at c-fractional speeds. Overall, it has excellent power and accuracy, but middling rate of fire and requires the entire vessel to be aimed to reposition.

Mobility Slot 1: AO499B Interceptor Engines: A pair of powerful generators paired with a set of thrusters, designed to provide large amounts of power at any given time. However, they are quite heavy, limiting the ability to maneuver quickly somewhat.

Mobility Slot 2: Llima Enterprises Mark 93 Auxiliary Thrust Devices: A set of manuevering jets, largely concentrated around the nose of Naomi's Peregrine, intended to assist the vehicle in swinging those nose about for aming and compensating for the bulk of the vehicle's primary powerplant. They are not entirely fixed and can be aimed backward to produce small bursts of speed, though this usage cannot be sustained for long.

Variable Slot 1: -Used for Weapon-

Variable Slot 2: G45P "Hunter": The Peregrine is equipped with two of these plasma weapons. They are primarily characterized by excellent tracking ability and high rate of fire; their damage per hit is quite low, but they have appreciable range and are often used to soften or cripple a target so that the main cannon can be used to disable or destroy it entirely. They can also function as point defense in a pinch.

“Long Range Engagement Specialist” Sergeant Major Catria “Vixen” Edelweiss

Spoiler

Age: 32

Personality: Abrasive is probably the best word to describe Vixen. She doesn’t make much effort to be likable and in fact tends to try and keep people from ever wanting to talk to her. She’s a huge loner type, preferring silence to any human being she’s personally met. One would say “woe to those that get on her bad side” but it is oft joked she doesn’t even possess a good side for one to be on. She earned the nickname “Vixen” for a reason. The most that one can hope for with Vixen is to be merely tolerated. However, this is a rare and not oft given luxury.

Appearance: Vixen is a decent height, probably standing about 5’8. She has dull red eyes and darker blue hair, which are often quite distinguishing features. She tends to wear a heavy tan cloak over top of her ensemble, leading quite a few to not truly know what’s underneath. She wears thick heavy goggles, tinted red, on her head. Underneath her left eye is a rather nasty burn she acquired at some point in her career. Underneath her cloak she wears a red tank top, that leads into black shorts that reach part of the way down her thigh. In addition to this she wears heavy combat boots and some sort of baggy legging that cover her legs up to above her knees. ~~there is gap between this and her shorts.~~ She always wears a black glove on her right hand.

Background: The Eclipse, had a reputation. One that the Llima Empire would shortly catch wind of. A crew that would defend neutral systems… a neutral party. One that could easily run errands for them past the bounds of their normal reach. Regardless… they’d need to keep watch on such an entity regardless. So, that was where Vixen came in. Through quite reluctantly at first. She had been in the military as long as she could, even earning the title of Long Range Engagement Specialist. ~~though mostly a rank given to her to keep her from raising in the command structure.~~.

She found herself a new assignment on her desk. To watch the Eclipse. To be a party with vested interest aboard the vessel so that the Empire could be kept in the loop and further terminate them if they proved to just be a rampant pirate vessel. She was to be their inside man, that kept an eye on the operations and made sure they remained above board. She was pretty sure it was mostly to get her the hell away from the main military force as possible but she didn’t really care. It was an opportunity to get the hell away from the big wigs and stuffy politics of the military so she’d take it. After all, the military was the only life she cared to live if she had to be stuck in the Llima Empire, so… why not get out of that hellhole while still part of it? Seemed like a win/win for ol’ Vixen.

Interceptor Name: Cleansing Rain

Spoiler

Appearance: Cleansing Rain is made to look as much like the style of fighter before the recall as possible. Due to the long extensive military history in Vixen’s family she’d always been fond of the old things and never truly believed in the practicality of Strikers. The Cleansing Rain is a throwback to the old days though with quite a few improvements over the old designs. It is perhaps somewhat of an ugly design to most, as it has quite a distinct wedge shape to it, however Vixen improved on the older versions by making the body of the vessel thinner while adding to the overall bulk. ~~honestly just imagine an A Wing style fighter just fancied up to look less wedgy.~~

Weapon Slot 1&2: Cleansing Rain is equipped with an extremely long range laser cannon, akin to a sniper rifle however… attached to a ship. It is weaponry fine tuned to bore through Strikers and interceptors of all kinds. Due to the infrequency of shields on these combat vessels (due to Strikers common use of weapons made to bypass them anyway) it tends to not run into trouble as a result. However if it does come up against shields it is pretty much useless.

Mobility Slot 1&2: The Cleansing Rain is equipped with a Warp Drive so it has the ability to maneuver long distances outside of purview of the Eclipse. Due to the Cleansing Rain’s designation as a long-range engagement vessel this is essential to its ability to be able to come at the battle at unexpected angels and ranges leaving the enemies much more vulnerable to surprise. This does come at the cost of having to leave the ship and arrive at combat locations separately leaving on her own for quite a few days on end time to time, but… Vixen would consider this an upside however.

Variable Slot 1: The Cleansing Rain would be quite the sitting duck if it’s only weaponry was it’s long range laser cannon, therefore it is equipped as well with a short range plasma cannon, for those that get too close for comfort.

Alezar Shrine

Spoiler

Age: 25

Personality: Fairly loud and boisterous, but respectful of others. Likes to be included. Takes pride in himself and his skills.

Appearance: 5’8”. Dark brown hair styled into a fohawk that is pushed onto the side of his head with a strip of it dyed silver on the front. Pale silver blue eyes. Deep olive complexion. Generally wears a pair of small goggles that resemble aviator goggles around his neck or has them pushed onto his head. Thin but muscular build with sharper facial features. Has a large burn scar on most of his left shoulder and part of his upper left arm. Outside of his piloting outfit he normally wears simple black combat style pants and a white tank top. He also has a stylized hooded black jacket with silver bands up the left arm.

Background: He was part of the defense fleet of a trade convoy from a neutral system. When they became besieged by pirates the Eclipse and it’s crew helped them out. After the escort of the convoy was finished he decided to join on with them. He is a pilot first and an engineer and mechanic an extremely close second.

Interceptor Name: The Kormirand

Spoiler

Appearance: The hull of the ship is long, about 11 ½ meters. The front end is about a meter wide, with the rear end being just under 5. The general thickness of the ship is about 1 ½ meters around the cockpit and middle of the ship. The storage area runs closer to 2 - 2 ½ meters. The larger rear of the ship functions mainly as storage for the drill mines. A deployment chute runs from the rear end towards to front, from which the mines are deployed. The cockpit is situated towards the center of the ship. On the front end (in front of the cockpit) is the turret, which can rotate side to side as well as rotate to fire from the top or bottom of the ship (It is basically a ball in the ship that is visible from the top and bottom). The main thrusters are located on the top of the ship, behind and to the sides of the cockpit.

Overall the ship is a similar in shape to the interceptors of old, but more of a rounded isosceles triangle, painted mostly a dull silver-gray with white highlights around certain parts. There appears to be a faded image of something resembling a bird, but with large billowy wings. It is covered in various small scrapes and even some blast marks, giving the impression that it has seen at least some use.

Weapon Slot: Drill Mine Deployment (2 Slots): The ship holds 80 deployable drill mines. The drills activate when an enemy ship enters the vicinity, using thrusters to reach them and then latch on to begin drilling. While drilling each mine send out a signal to call more mines to its target.

Mobility Slot 1: Dual "Korez" Thrusters: Dual thrusters are the main source of the acceleration for the ship, worked on and modified by Alezar himself. They can bring the ship up to its max speed quickly, especially when used in conjunction with the rest of the thrusters.

Mobility Slot 2: Rotatable Thrusters: Smaller thrusters that are located on both the top and bottom of the ship with omni-directional rotation. They can be used to increase acceleration of the ship if facing in the same direction as the main thrusters, or to quickly change direction of the ship. The main thrusters cannot be firing if these thrusters are firing in the complete opposite direction.

Variable Slot 1: Combat Plasma Turret: A rotating ball turret used to destroy enemy craft while chasing them down. Fires dual plasma shots in quick succession instead of a single unbroken beam.

Willard E(gbert). Halstein. Strictly speaking he’s a Lieutenant, but he prefers not to reference his station unless necessary.

Spoiler

Age: 55

Personality: In the cockpit of Gunguneel, Willard is a highly skilled and confident pilot. He follows tactics to the letter as ordered, though if the situation grows dire he may opt to follow instinct in the heat of the moment. As he has yet to die horribly, this trait seems to serve him adequately well. The nature of his Striker requires him to have a certain disregard for his own safety and years of piloting it have given him quite the reckless attitude in battle.

When not inside his Striker, Willard is a friendly, outgoing person. He enjoys talking with others and has a habit of offering advice on piloting during, even if you don't exactly ask (or want) him to. Most conversations one has with Willard involve piloting, Strikers, other ships, tactics, strategy, or other such things - he can't seem to talk about anything else, nor does he appear to have many pastimes.

Appearance: Willard E. Halstein is not a young man. Such is clear the moment you see the lines in his forehead or around his eyes, the salt-and-pepper nature of his hair around his sideburns, and his deep voice. He possesses shoulder-length, slicked-back dark hair as well as a full beard across his chin and jawline. Willard also possesses a mustache. His skin is a cool brown. Physically, he is tall - over six feet - and muscularly built, with large hands and sharp features. His eyes are deep-set and dark brown, almost black.

Background: Willard E. Halstein's first time inside a Striker came after he joined a Drasian military at the age of 22, and sparked within him a passion for the thrill of space combat that would burn for the rest of his life. His first unit was nothing special; it brought him experience, money, and a sense of real purpose. He would not come into possession of the Gunguneel or its devastating Rex Hasta system until he was 29. His ship at the time, the Gurgurant, happened upon a passing ship being attacked by pirates. Willard and company gladly came to their aid, and were rewarded with the Gunguneel Striker by the grateful experimenters who had built it. Not one pilot was willing to take the Gunguneel for their own use... except the extremely impressed Willard. And Willard would go on putting it to excellent use for the next thirty five years of his life, rising to unofficial notice as the most skilled Striker pilot out of any on the Gurgurant - a title he would humbly deny ownership of every time.

Now in his mid-50's, however, Willard began to wonder if piloting the Gunguneel was really all life had in store for him. The battles that once fueled his inner flame just seemed monotonous, now. Like a particularly boring chore. His passionate flame had withered to a sputtering ember. Swiftly deciding to turn things around for himself, the pilot left his place on the Gurgurant with little fanfare, bought a home on a nearby colony world, and started seeing what else he could do with himself.

Not even a month later did Willard realize that this was utterly, truly, undeniably the worst mistake of his entire life. Abandoning his truest friends to "settle down" and "get a change of pace", who was he kidding? He knew he was meant to be in the cockpit of the Gunguneel, dodging Interceptor fire, knocking holes through enemy ships like tissue paper. Perhaps the self-induced retirement was just the kick in the pants he'd needed to reignite his flame, or perhaps he simply realized what a damn fool he'd been to try and quit. Whatever the case, he needed to find another ship to call home, and fast. The Gurgurant was systems away at this point, much too far for him to travel on his own. He was at a loss.

Until he heard about the Eclipse. One of the only Drasian ships left anywhere following the destruction of their homeworld, full of skilled Striker and Interceptor pilots who seemed to be on a personal mission from some higher being to destroy as much of the Resanti as physically possible. And it was approaching his system in what seemed like just a few days... Willard would miss the people he had spent over half of his life amongst back on the Gurgurant, but the jobs they took on were small-time compared to the exploits he'd heard of the Eclipse. As soon as it was close enough, Willard put his things together and set the Gunguneel on course for the carrier ship. What happens after that remains to be seen.

Striker Name: 'Gunguneel' Experimental Railgun Chassis Mk. 1

Spoiler

Appearance: The Gunguneel Striker is a large, bulky thing, even compared to the average of its kind. It features a very pronounced, conical "breast" area with a circular hatch in the center, hiding the barrel of the Rex Hasta system when not in use. Situated above that is top half of the cockpit, designed to be as squat as possible and minimize the pilot's exposure to enemy fire. Its arms and legs are relatively short for its height but large to match the chest piece, giving it somewhat of an unwieldy appearance. The mech's main color is royal purple with gold accents around the joints, thruster, shield, and along the Rex Hasta system's barrel.

Weapon Slot/Variable Slots 1+2: 'Rex Hasta' Intergrated Railgun System - An extremely powerful weapon, the Rex Hasta system was an experimental design that turned out to be an amazing success. Its entire concept is, simply put, "What would happen if we built a Striker chassis around a ship-mounted railgun?" The answer to that question is devastation. While its size and barrel length gives it attack power unmatched by more conventional Strikers or Interceptors, it does take longer to charge up than traditional weapons of its type, and shares its smaller brethren's drawback of requiring close proximity to the target in order to hit effectively. However, rest assured than any target the Rex Hasta system lands a blow on will be critically damaged, if not destroyed outright. Due to the unwieldiness of its extended barrel, the Rex Hasta stays contracted until it reaches full charge, at which point it automatically telescopes to its full length until fired.

Armor Slot: 'Aegis' Arm-Mounted Projectile Barrier - A small particle barrier mounted to the Gunguneel's left arm. When activated, it projects a shield that extends up and down slightly more than the Gunguneel's height, absorbing plasma- and laser-based attacks but leaving ballistic ones unchecked. The shield completely covers Gunguneel from the front, but is highly susceptible to flanking and attacks from the rear, as the shield's placement requires the Striker to completely turn around in order to defend itself from enemies it isn't facing head-on.

Mobility Slot: 'Galeforce' Ion Propulsion Engine - The Gunguneel's primary and only means of spacial propulsion, the Galeforce engine is essentially a large ion thruster, placed on the Gunguneel's back. It possesses excellent thrust and high gimballing capability, allowing the Gunguneel adequate turning ability while under acceleration, and is paired with internally mounted reaction wheels to compensate for the Striker's otherwise lack of means to rotate itself in motion.

Irene Falkenranth

Spoiler

Age: She be 22 years old matey (Sorry bad joke)

Personality: Irene Falkenrath is your typical scoundrel, an opportunist who would do whatever it takes to take get herself (and if at all possible; whatever group she found herself swearing allegiance to this morning) out of whatever predicament she inevitably finds herself in with as big of a payday as she can steal, negotiate, or shoot her way into obtaining. While she frankly doesn't much care for the Eclipse's quest for vengeance, she is perfectly willing to pay lipservice to it and fight in its name... as long as someone is paying for her expenses of course.

Appearance: Irene is a brown skinned woman of middling height and slender build. Her wavy hair is colored black, and it has been kept in a relatively short ponytail ever since she looked into the mirror one day and realized that she was turning into her mother.

She wears a beat up looking neon red jacket with its sleeves rolled up; seemingly to better display the many little scars and burn wounds that mark her arms. She seems to favor wearing loose and sensible pants, and she always wears a complimentary looking belt with one simply because it allows her to holster a stun gun, a non hidden knife, and a durable metal flashlight pretty much everywhere she goes. She prefers to wear durable looking combat boots wherever she goes, something to do with how unsurprisingly useful they can be in a fight.

She carries a pair of insulated white faux leather work gloves everywhere with her, although she only ever wears one at a time on the hand she is presenting as the dominant one, unless she actually has a use for both. She hides a set of small powered tools inside of a pocket in her jacket for obvious reasons.

Her dark blue eyes are often described as 'piercing' by those have who have found themselves staring directly at them.

She often affects a terse manner of speaking and a gruff tone of voice. Although whenever she feels particularly relaxed or tired (or if she is around people she trusts) she will start to speak in a surprisingly melodious tone of voice.

Background: Irene is a former pirate who was forcibly retired from the business quite recently after she found herself being on the wrong (read: Losing) side of a mutiny, and she joined up with the eclipse due to a large amount of reasons that essentially boiled down to 'This is a comparatively safer way for me to earn a living.'

Striker Name: The Alteisen (Used to be known as Der Ungeheuer back in the days of piracy)

Spoiler

Appearance: The Alteisen has been very carefully and attentively color coded with a mixture of red, dark grey, and stark white paint; with the bright, flashy, and attention grabbing neon red paint coloring the toughest parts of the Striker's armor, the dark grey being used to color the smaller and less heavily armored joints and other places that couldn't get the proper amount of protection. It should be noted that most of the mecha is painted neon red. The Alteisen has a very bulky and heavily armored appearance for a Striker due to the additional Der Ungeheuer plate covering the original mecha's armor, and it is never seen without a hand held Charged Particle Cannon in one its hands, as that is Irene's weapon of choice. The Alteisen's head appears to be a generic stark white humanoid head that has an additional neon red plating shaped in such a way that it appears to be a twin horned helmet that covers the top half. The head's two small and slightly triangular dark green eyes are but one of the many forward facing eyes present on the Striker's main frame, although they also happen to be the only visible ones.

Weapon Slot:

[CPC-Bremsstrahlung R] Charged Particle Cannon (2 slots) [A large matte black weapon that emits a pulse of charged particles that bathes anything it comes across in deadly levels of radiation and frying any electronics it comes across without having to actually pierce or otherwise damage the armor. Although it is remarkably close ranged due to some rather horrific amounts of blooming.

The weapon's complete lack of recoil and its trifling out of atmosphere weight allows the Alteisen to carry it in one hand despite how awkward that would be, as it has been designed to appear as a particularly large and long barreled machinegun.]

Armor Slot: Der Ungeheuer Plate [The Alteisen's entire frame is covered in what can basically be described as additional armoring composed of ceramic tiles encased within a metal framework and bonded to a backing plate that is attached to several layers of an elastic material, granting it an increased amount of protection against all forms of damage.]

Mobility Slot: Wernher Engine [2 slots]: [The Striker's old engine has been ripped out entirely at some point in the past and replaced with a vastly improved model. In outer space the engine redirects the excess amounts of power it generates into the thrusters present on the back of the striker to grant it a vastly improved straight line speed, acceleration, braking, and maneuverability due to a series of strategically placed thrusters linked to the new engine. Inside of atmosphere this engine allows the heavier than usual Striker to stand and fly properly.]

Variable Slot 1: Used for the particle cannon.
Variable Slot 2: Used for the Wernher Engine.

NPCs

Captain Elijah Matthews

Spoiler

Age: 24

Personality: Despite his seemingly young age, Captain Matthews is a battle-hardened, and perhaps battle-weary, man. Having flown on the Eclipse for all of her seven years of service, he knows the ship and her crew as well as anyone. He's a very emotional leader who often thinks with his heart, trusting his more rational advisers to talk him down when he loses sight of the mission. His passionate nature makes him very charismatic and leads to his crew feeling a very strong sense of loyalty towards him.

Appearance: Light reddish skin, short brown hair with a single white streak on the right side near the front, pale green eyes. Wears a standard Assembly navy uniform comprised of a dark blue button up jacket with the right flap extending at a slight angle over the left, white dress pants, and black boots.

Background: Originally the Eclipse's second-in-command, he was promoted to become her captain in preparation for the war with the Resanti. When the Assembly refused to send Drasis reinforcements and left them to be wiped out by the Resanti, he made a passionate speech that brought the crew together in their desertion of the Assembly.

Lieutenant Stephanie Rhees

Spoiler

Age: 17

Personality: Cheerful but matter-of-fact and straightforward, a very reliable girl. She's not very outgoing, preferring to maintain a professional distance to other members of the crew.

Appearance: Reddish brown skin and narrow emerald eyes. Short, straight, and well-cared for light brown hair with a white streak on the right side near the front. Wears a standard Assembly navy uniform comprised of a dark blue button up jacket with the right flap extending at a slight angle over the left, white dress skirt, and black boots. Though it's not required as part of the uniform, she also wears dark blue socks that reach up to just below her knees and a dark blue flight cap.

Background: In charge of relaying information to the Striker and Interceptor pilots during combat

Lieutenant Commander Jacquelyn "Elyn" Orindal

Spoiler

Age: 47

Personality: A genius who could easily captain her own ship if she wanted, but prefers the hands on approach. She tends to be hard to interact with, as her focus is always taken by her work. She's also very informal, never using ranks and scolding those who use hers.

Appearance: An ebony skinned woman with a shaved head (hair just gets in the way). Deep brown eyes, rounded facial features, and a large, flat nose. Usually wears a white pilot suit, one which is covered in stains and has had the sleeves cut off, and dark blue fingerless gloves.

Background: The Eclipse's chief engineer. The oldest officer in the entire Drasian fleet that hasn't made admiral.

Lieutenant Skylar Coral

Spoiler

Age: 19

Personality: Cheerful and friendly, Skylar is always happy to help, whether you're a patient or not. Prone to talking constantly, Skylar has a habit of annoying those who aren't prepared for the total lack of silence. However, those who listen carefully will find a lot of wisdom in the things Skylar says. That cheerful disposition belies and extremely intelligent individual and one of the best medical doctors in the galaxy.

Appearance: Pale skin, medium length, curly blonde hair. Left eye is a bright sky blue, right eye is covered by a white eyepatch with a gold pattern of two vertical bars separating it into thirds, one horizontal bar across the center, and a ring around the edge. Skylar may wear a uniform for more formal occasions. But usually wears a white, blouse-like crop top with a dark green collar and a red scarf, a green pleated skirt with two white stripes on it, brown leather gloves, and black knee-high leather boots. Will either wear a black half cape on the right or a white labcoat (for medical work).

Background: The Eclipse's chief medical officer and one of the few members of the original crew that wasn't a Drasian. Being a close friend of the captain, chose to stay with the Eclipse instead of returning to the Assembly.

Sergeant Torin Horne

Spoiler

Age: 28

Personality: Extremely angry, Torin harbors an intense hatred of both the Resanti and the Assembly for the destruction of his home. Though the Eclipse crew will tell you he used to be much kinder, if a bit passive aggressive at times, he's become outright abrasive since his home was destroyed.

Appearance:

Background: The last surviving pilot of the Eclipse's original compliment

Striker Name: DE-S307-M4 "Hell Raven"

Spoiler

Appearance: A typical humanoid mech of a dark blue color. The "head" is painted to look like the head and beak of a raven with flaming eyes. The lower right arm has been replaced by a large railgun and a rack of spikes that serve as the railgun's ammunition hangs from the left hip, carefully feeding spikes upwards to be in easy reach whenever one is removed. On the back are a pair of "wings" that serve as shield generators.

Weapon Slot: R42-FKU "Hole Puncher" - A big railgun embedded in the Raven's right arm. Fires a large spike at a huge velocity, easily punching through any ship's armor and and usually punching back out the other side. Due to the size of the rounds it fires, the Raven can only carry enough spikes for twenty-one shots

Armor Slot: DE-S307 MS-STANDARD - A typical missile scrambler that could be found on any Striker. Torin sees no need to replace it, as it already does its job just fine.

Mobility Slot: DE-S307 ST-STANDARD - Standard thrusters that Torin keeps around for the same reason as the scrambler.

Variable Slot 1: Used for Hole Puncher

Variable Slot 2 (Armor): S23-BPS "Raven's Wings" - A pair of wing-shaped protrusions (the shaping is for style, all the matters is they stick off the back) extending from the Raven's back house shield generators. Though not powerful enough to project a bubble around the entire mech, they form smaller bubbles that protect its back against plasma and laser fire.

Reserving space for sheet.

==================

Spoiler

Name: Rose Cohen

Spoiler

Striker Name: JS16-EXARCH

Alezar Shrine

Spoiler

Name: Alezar Shrine

The Kormirand

Spoiler

Interceptor Name: The Kormirand

Pilot

Name: Naomi Takahashi

Interceptor

Interceptor Name: SI11 "Peregrine"

Sheeeeeet!

Pilot:

Spoiler

Name: “Long Range Engagement Specialist” Sergeant Major Catria “Vixen” Edelweiss

Spoiler

Interceptor Name: Cleansing Rain

Pilot Sheet

Spoiler

Name: Varg Goretearer (His actual name is Steven Pierce.)

Age: 29

Personality: Varg is quite agressive, most likely stemming from his mentality of "Might makes right".

Appearance: Varg has wide blue eyes that are like two lagoons. His straight, black hair is medium-length and is worn in a simple, precise style. His facial hair is styled in a goatee. He's quite large and has a muscly build. His wardrobe tends to be red and black.

Background: Varg is fairly bog standard as far as pirates go. His only real reason for becoming notable is that his parents were both Striker pilots who taught him everything they knew. At the age of Sixteen his dad made him fight him for the right to his name and mech. Varg of course won the fight. Several years later he went up against the crew of the Eclipse, seeing defeat at the hands of Irene. Giving up the fight when he saw that it was going no where, Varg used the confusion of the fight to disable his ship and prove his loyalty. He also brought of gift in the form of the striker parts the crew had stolen over the years as well.

Mech Sheet

Spoiler

Striker Name: Vulkodlak

Appearance: A large striker made to compensate for the size of the occupant. It's head resembles that of a wolf, and is painted to further that resemblance. There's also red around the mouth, made to look like blood. Where the eyes would be are two lights, made to be easy to replace when they break. It's arms have "hands" tipped with sharp claws for tearing into ships.

Weapon Slot: Claws: Pretty simple, sharp claws for clawing things up using brute strength and sharpness.

Armor Slot: X-Tendable Shield: Varg came up with that name himself. A shield that extends to protect the users when the arms of the mech are cross in front of it, like an X.

Mobility Slot: Gyroscopic enhancement: To reduce the chances of over extending himself while maneuvering, Varg has had a series of Gyroscopic mods to enhance the Vulkodlak's not falling over capabilities.

Variable Slot 1: Breaching charges: A launcher situated in the "mouth" of the mech, used to launch breaching charges. 15 Charges total.

Variable Slot 2: Stolen Scrambler: A signal scrambler Varg's father stole from some ship to make it harder for missiles to target the Vulkodlak.

Just expressing my interest!

Disclaimer that I'm not too well-versed in the whole mecha shbang — at this moment, anyway; I'll do some reading up once I start building a character. In the meantime, any advice on where to start?

Pilot

Spoiler

Name: Willard E(gbert). Halstein. Strictly speaking he’s a Lieutenant, but he prefers not to reference his station unless necessary.

Striker

Spoiler

Striker Name: 'Gunguneel' Experimental Railgun Chassis Mk. 1

Armor Slot: ‘Aegis’ Arm-Mounted Projectile Barrier - A small particle barrier mounted to the Gunguneel's left arm.

By the way @Jeane, I highly recommend that you hop over to the Discord server for this game, as we can in all honesty help teach you pretty much everything you don't know about mecha RPs or this RP in general. Also because we mostly do our OOC conversations over there and I honestly don't want you to miss out on anything.

It has taken many hours to put this sheet together. But I put much love, suave, and space-cowboy aptitude into each of those hours. I regret nothing about what is to follow...

Pilot

Spoiler

Name: Cree Nothan

Age: 38

Personality: A man whose been called many things over the decades. "Scoundrel", "Conman", "Ryxori Scumbag", just to name a few of the more polite ones. While it's true he's no 'man of honor', himself his 'one true king', somewhere deep inside of him, the bells of conscience do ring. He's seen some of the worse shitholes in all of known space. And he's seen more than his fair share of monsters masquerading as men… and well, sometimes, even a mere smuggler must carry a sword for monsters.

Appearance: A human male standing at 5'11 and weighing in at 78 Kg. Short, disheveled Chestnut brown hair, blue eyes and slightly crooked nose. Often seen with a roguish grin on his face. Frequently wears a black synth-leather vest with matching slacks and a white dress shirt.

Background: A former smuggler from a neutral world, Cree has been all over known space and the civilized systems. Met all sorts of people, carried all sorts of cargo, gotten into all manner of conflicts, pissed off more local big wigs, pirate gangs, and crime lords than he can count, and ultimately picked up a number of invaluable (if somewhat underhanded) skills for all his troubles over the decades. Sometimes he used those skills to line his pockets with much needed Galactics, Feathers, Eris, etc. Sometimes he just felt like helping the little guy for once. Sometimes he just wanted to spite particularly despicable assholes. These days though, well he's had his own little horror story regarding the Resanti, and thus those skills now find themselves in the employ of the Eclipse and its crew… to repay old debts to lost friends.

Interceptor

Spoiler

Interceptor Name: The Aeon Hawk

Appearance: The Aeon Hawk is an interceptor set upon the frame of the ancient Ryxori Royal Starhopper design, a starfighter left over from the bygone age when the planet wasn't one of the worse shitholes in the galaxy and ruled by whoever had the biggest guns and was willing to shed the most blood; bearing a sleek, spade-shaped body and slender, multi-pronged wing design that likely no one but another native Ryxori with an interest in their own people's history will even recognize. Coupled with the patchwork of antiquated components installed on it, in battle the Aeon Hawk presents the visage of a starcraft seemingly displaced in the very fabric of time itself, lifted right out of any myriad of long forgotten conflicts to wreak havoc in the modern day.

Weapon Slot: AG-2G Quad-Rail Cannon: A novel piece that debuted decades ago but for a myriad of varied reasons failed to be a commercial success on the market. AG-2G Quad-Rail was a weapon designed for those who had speed and hit-and-run tactics in mind, taking the principles of your standard rail gun and seeking to improve handling and quick target acquisition. By exposing loaded shots to 4 surfaces instead of 2, AG Corp was able to expose loaded shots to the same levels of magnetic force propulsion as a Bi-Rail design, but at only half the length. The kicker that was to tie it together was the swiveling base design using surprisingly advanced components that could bring the cannon to bare on any direction within 360 degrees horizontal and 180 degrees vertical. AG's theory worked well in the testing lab, but the use of non-standard rail sizes ironically led to the units downfall, as corporate greed reared its ugly head; the Cannon could only be maintained with proprietary rails, having built-in system locks if it detected incorrect alloy composition, or signs of cutter use. Combine the fact that AG execs pushed for 1 AG-2G rail to be priced completely with a single standard rail, and well you have a recipe for total flop. That was then however. This is now. And nowadays, the 2G Cree arms himself with is a heavily modified version, with each and every last bit of proprietary lock up software personally cut out and burned like the greed-riddled trash it was.  He'll take whatever damn brand of rails he wants, cut them down to size, and use them to maintain the gun as he so desires.

Mobility Slot 1: Modded Girodyne SRB42 Sublight Engine: A piece of vintage hardware, thought of as a collector's items by old timers like Cree and as an obsolete piece of junk by the younger crooks. The SRB42 was once the premier primary engine of any and all individuals looking to stay two steps ahead of the law and one step ahead of the competition. Boasting impressive acceleration and reliability for its time, Cree has poured ample love and effort into restoring this piece back to its prime specs, and then pushing it even further beyond using modern advancements. Younger spacers may ridicule his choice when they recognize the older gear, but they'll be rendered speechless as he accelerates to top speed before they even finish, and proceeds to totally trounce their own as they try and catch up.

Mobility Slot 2: Duralek B287 Predator Thrust Array (2 slots): A state of the art array of supporting thrusters strategically installed throughout the Aeon Hawks body. The Predator line of products was designed for only the most daring, or foolish, of pilots and spacers, who desire a considerable boost to overall speed and an exceptional one to maneuvering capabilities, but actually possess the hair trigger skills to not become a blast scar on the nearest asteroid or capitol ship because of it. It operates by prioritizing power distribution only to those directional cones actually needed at a given moment, using a "dummy-relay" system to keep all others on standby without ever letting them cool below optimum operation temperature. This combined with an excellent acceleration rate allows for complex, decisive maneuvers on the fly, but also puts intense strain on a pilot's body inside due to shifting Gs.

Variable Slot 1: Xirca-Tech 1974 Inertia Buster: Another antique that was restored and brought up to modern snuff by Cree. Xirca-Tech is a now defunct corp from a long since past era in smuggling and crime. Though best known for producing life support, crew amenity, and strong-forces mitigation systems for military craft, just as many, if not even more, parts created by Xirca found their way in the hands of criminals everywhere. Though their underhanded dealings ultimately lead to the company being raided, its headquarters razed to the ground, and all official assets being seized by the Assembly, the name of Xirca lives on in the quality of it's products, even decades later. This particular peice is a complex system of Gryoscopic dampeners which form an integrated shell around an Interceptor's cockpit, effectively providing a barrier between pilots and the vast amount of shifting G forces generated during complex flight manuevers.
