Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to a quite possibly unwanted attempted at creating merger between the world of old fashioned film noir private detective stories and the familiar world of Pokemon. So yes it is as you feared; I am afraid that this is yet another Pokemon RP that deals in the dark themes and situations that is only ever implied in the official games themselves.

So if you came to this page because you wanted to experience the joys of conquering the league with the help of your friends and rivals in a way that would allow actual living people to be said friends and rivals...then I suggest that you wait a while for another good friend of mine to start the other game I am Co-GMing, and I apologize for wasting your time.

But if you came here because you wanted to experience a wide world full of adventure, and immediately ignore most of it to go and help a heart broken man find the cause of his love’s sudden and inexplicable disappearance; by going undercover and infiltrating part of an international Pokemon smuggling ring to retrieve said man’s lost love from their innermost sanctum(It’s complicated); just before you are forced to bug out with all of the evidence you could grab, and have most of you report back to base to get paid with a smile on your face for reuniting a boy and his dog...and then retch a little in disgust when your boss shows you exactly what happened to the victim in the murder case you will be investigating tomorrow. Then welcome to The Maltese Talonflame!.


The System: Because apparently I have a compulsive need for one

 

The system we will be using for this game will be a minimalistic d12 based Roll to Dodge system, because those are really good at passing the K.I.S.S. test.
1-2 That sinking feeling you get when you know that you not only managed to bungle something up, but that you managed to do it in a way that causes the inevitable reaming you will receive to be much worse than usual. (Critical Failure)

3-4 Failure, noun: failure

lack of success. "an economic policy that is doomed to failure"

an unsuccessful person, enterprise, or thing. (Which in this context is defined as the bright young chap who just let out a very audible yelp while trying to sneak past some guards; just because they stubbed their toe at the very last moment)

5-6 Partial Success, basically you succeeded at something just enough to technically get what you want, but not enough to get what you wanted in a way that didn’t have some strings attached.

7-8 Success, This is pretty self explanatory, but you basically did what you set out to do with no immediately visible repercussions or drawback. An example of a success would be that time where you tried to help knock a suspect down to bring him back into custody after a presumably remarkable chase scene, and you well...did just that.

9-10 Critical Success That awesome feeling you get when all of the time and effort you put into doing something pays off in all of the best possible ways. Although keep in mind that this result still won’t let you do something that is literally impossible, that regular feather is never going to break that ceramic vase with you swinging it after all.

11-12 Overshot. Oh dear, you uhh….made quite a mess of the poor chap haven’t you?, and did you say that you simply wanted to try and knock him out? Because in all honesty it seemed as if you were trying to bash his brains in earlier. (Though the result was achieved, the action backfires horribly due to a disproportionately large amount of effort)

13+  Super Overshot. An overshot happens, and another roll is made to see if you can even try to mitigate its effects.
 
Rolls are made to help resolve or fairly arbitrate the result of certain out of combat actions that seem to require it, and rolls are made for practically every single in combat action your Pokemon make (And yourself as well if you decide to do something more strenuous than ordering your Pokemon around or chucking the occasional item). But of course you shouldn’t worry too much, as your Pokemon will do their best to help out whenever they are out of their Pokeball, thus providing you with passive bonuses to some of the rolls that you make. Although what those bonuses are will depend on a variety of factors such as whether or not is has been ordered to use a relevant move, and whether or not it is afflicted by a status or if it has just...fainted.

Name: (Pretty much any name will do, although don’t be surprised if people think that you couldn’t possibly be serious when you say that your name is “John Smith” or “Deathgar the Vaguely Effeminate”)
Codename: (These should be one word only)

Age: (Due to obvious reasons related to how disturbing some aspects of your line of work can be, you are not allowed to join the Private Detective Agency unless you are at least 18 years of age, although they can be as old as 45 years old...if, and only if you can justify how and why your character decided to switch careers so late in their life and join the organization in what is basically an entry level position well enough.)
Gender: (Are you a boy or a girl?)
Appearance: (It doesn’t have to be particularly long, but just give me a few sentences to give me a good idea of how your character looks like)
Personality: (Give me a good idea of how your character acts in this section)

Background: (Completely and utterly optional, although if you do decide to fill this out please do try to keep your character’s accomplishments and skill sets at least vaguely realistic, your 21 year old guy with heterochromia isn’t old enough to have two PhDs after all).

Pokemon Name: (Self explanatory, but not actually necessary)
Starter Pokemon Species: (In this section you need to explain why your character chose this particular Pokemon, and why you think that it will help in his investigative duties enough for the agency to let him or her keep it.
You cannot choose any Ultra Beasts, Legendaries, Mythological Pokemon, or Pseudo Legendaries. Pretty much everything else is fine unless we specifically tell you otherwise. Although keep in mind that your Pokemon are currently level 12 and that they are still affected by the good old four moveslot syndrome).

Moves: (Remember, you are still affected by the good old four moveslot syndrome...for now, and also feel free to choose one or two egg moves. Although you should remember that )

Trained skills: (Your starter Pokemon can have up to four trained skills that provide a +1 bonus to a specific type of action when it is out of its Pokeball; the trained skill must have a tiny bit of justification for it, such as your Hoothoot helping you search for evidence in the dark using its natural night vision, or your Drowzee helping you intimidate a person you are interrogating because everyone knows what Drowzee do when people are not around.

Skills all fall under one of the following five categories: Investigation, Criminal, Combat, Communication, and Pursuit.

 Investigation: Skills that will aid you while searching for clues. These include skills that could be an enhancement of senses or physical enhancements. Although I do hope that none of you are taking any chemical enhancements, as that would fall under….

Criminal: Well, I mean, you can’t be a good detective without breaking a few rules, am I right? Any skills that could potentially be construed as a type of criminal activity, no matter how seemingly innocuous it is.

Combat: If it helps you get the other guy down for the count faster, then it belongs here.

Communication: Because words, words are all I have, to take your heart away. Also, you could be a smooth talker to have your way with the witness/suspect. Oh la la!! (Please do not actually flirt with every single NPC)

Pursuit: Because apparently almost every single criminal you encounter would just love to demonstrate how they used to be a star in their high school’s track and field team. This category is for every single trick you can pull that is specifically meant to help you catch a criminal who is on the run)

Species Traits: (Basically you know the things the Pokedex and your Pokemon’s description says they can do? Well list those things and their base stats here, we definitely won’t exploit this information to help/hinder you or anything… We promise!! You have to trust us on this!)

 


The Rules

 

Because I am an open and overly lenient GM (and because my Co-GM believes in letting people try whatever shit they want to try), I can safely say that the only two rules governing how you roleplay your character, and they are.
 
1. The blanket ‘Don’t be a Dick’ rule, also known as No God modding/Bunnying: Because in the end of the day, taking away a player’s ability to control their character’s actions is just a great way to cause a boatload of complaints and ruin the fun for almost everyone for the foreseeable future.
 
2. The Halley rule, also known as ‘Your actions will have consequences’: Things won’t always go your way, and sometimes a certain someone on your team goes out on their own to perform an action with far reaching consequences that they probably never stopped to fully consider, and of course these actions may or may not come back to haunt all of you sooner or later. This is fine.

Horace Kampton & Magnum

Name: Horace Kampton
Codename: Gunsel

Age: 29

Sex: Male

Appearance: 1,87   thin,  has short light brown hair with a rebellious tuft on the upper right side and some bangs hanging dangerously close to his eyes up front,  blue eyes.  He wears  the typical brown detective coat, while the rest of his attire changes.  He finds hats annoying, instead he wears rayban-style sunglasses almost all the time except if its very dark. He wears a leather wristwatch that usually has a pokeball hanging from its side, in its minimized form, ready to be grabbed.

 

Personality: Serious, obsessive, overexcited (in a serious way) during his job, loves movies
Outside job he shows some dry humor, and consider his free time as the holy time where he can be extremely relaxed and laid back to the point of his colleagues wondering if he is even the same person.   He is a more practical person and absolutely hates  theory.

Background:  

As a child, Horace was bullied a lot at school due to him being too short and physically weak. He would occasionally go and cry at the small artificial pond in the corner of the school grounds.  A horsea inhabiting the pond was usually helping his mood improve during those times. It was rather small, and was bullied too by the other inhabitants of the pond for it. Due to their common circumstances, they quickly bonded.

He eventually got a pokeball and brought the horsea home to spend more time with it, and save it from the bullying in the pond.  He liked watching police movies, where the badass defenders of justice would show evildoers who’s boss, and hoped he could one day do the same to his bullies. The male horsea was also watching the movies with Horace, and seemed to like the action.  What he seemed to like more though, was the intimidation that the gesture of holding a gun caused, and he seemed to get a rush when there was gunfire. It did not take long for Horace and the horsea start playing pretend, him being the righteous policeman and the horsea excitingly roleplaying as a gun, bringing invisible criminals to justice. Due to this, he decided to name him Magnum.

As he was finishing his teens, he got through a pretty drastic growth spurt, and was now on a more than average height. This, in addition to him frequenting the gym,  had for the most part fixed his issue of being an attractive bully target. However whenever he was seeing other high school mates being treated like he was some years ago, he would always intervene. He didn’t want others to go through what he went. It was not long before he had already set his goals on what he would want to become.

Things were not very easy for him though. He was never the brightest student, and his grades were average at best. He needed pretty above average grades to join the academy. He spent three years failing to get good final exam grades at school. Then he decided to spend some years doing odd jobs so that he instead go to a private academy and get it over with. Which is what he did.

He didn’t slack during all those no-academy years though. He had joined a paintball group, and was pretty active there. Though he was using Magnum and his ink instead of the regular paint guns, that way both of them were training in combat simulation. At least in that more practical area he was very satisfied with his performance, nothing like the hateful theory classes. He also attended a shooting range to familiarize himself with real guns, because sometimes a non-living, metallic gun is better to use. He then bought his own handgun, and practiced with it, as well as dual-wielding horsea and gun at the same time.  However he is dead broke, so he barely has any money for ammunition even to this day.

After taking more than the expected years to finish the academy because of said theory classes haunting him to oblivion,  he was now on his beginning of his career, distinguished licence and all,  at the ripe age of 29. Better late than never, one would guess.

 


Pokemon Name:Magnum
Starter Pokemon Species: Horsea.  
Happy to roleplay, and be pretty darn effective, as a gun, as well as sufficiently trained,  Magnum was an easy choice for Horace to start his career with. His smaller than normal size makes him pretty discreet. Magnum likes to chill in the spacious inside pocket of Horace’s detective coat, from which he would be readily pulled out and aimed to any problem. His father was most certainly an octillery, of level 25-27.
 

Nature: Rash

Moves:

Trained Skills:

Intimidation: Years of roleplaying, have aided Magnum in him becoming as intimidating as if he were a real gun, when pointed on someone. Simply the way he stares the very souls of his would-be targets would make them wish he was a real gun instead.  [+1 to Criminal]

 

Trigger Happy: What gun would Magnum be without anything remotely similar to a trigger? It would sure as hell cause him existential crisis. To simulate that, he reacts to which finger Horace taps on his belly as he is holding him, each delegated to one of his four moves. This is beneficial in two ways. One, it means that the opponents do not know what attack to expect, when to expect. Two, it causes for faster move execution, since both the “trigger”, and Magnum’s reaction to it, are faster than the average verbal command and a pokemon’s reaction to that.  [+1 to combat]

 

Precision: Years of paintball practice, have aided Magnum in being adept in hitting moving targets. This aids him in immobilising ex-problems that are trying to run away by hitting them in precise spots, like their ankle or something, ensuring they retain their ex- status.  [+1 Pursuit]

 

Cutify: This is Magnum when he simply stops roleplaying as a gun. He becomes as irresistibly cute as a normal horsea, usually making it easier to appeal to the ladies and whoever melts on the sight of a cute pokemon, and make them drop their guard. Usually it makes them relaxed enough to give away secrets or items that they shouldn’t. [+1 Communication]

 


Species Traits:  As a horsea, Magnum is naturally adept at shooting moving targets, a trait that inserts flying insects into their diet. He also is very quick to almost reflexively shoot ink to any sudden threat that might appear.  He can swim pretty fast if water is available. Apparently being bullied makes you swim faster than average.

Aster Wren Character Sheet

 

Name: Aster Wren
Codename: Hailstone
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Appearance: Standing at around 5,11 Aster still wears his old gang black leather jacket. The ends of the long sleeves have open zippers and the hem of the shoulder and the arm cuffs have studs lining them. On the back there are three mauve claw marks that glow white. (They don’t actually glow the design has them glow) This was his previous gang symbol He doesn’t put his arm through the sleeves, rather he lets it rest on his shoulders while being connect in the front by a small chain. Under the coat he wears a black long sleeve shirt with a red X going across his lower chest and the sleeves being white. Red jeans and a black belt. The ends of his jeans are hidden under his high boots that are covered with buckles. On his right ankle there is his tacker with a built-in taser to simulate a pikachu’s thunderbolt should he try to do anything funny. Black long curly hair with the tips dyed red.

Personality: The boy tends to be aggressive, quick to anger and likes to speak his mind. He won’t hesitate to call someone out and knock their teeth in with his fist. That’s not to say he’s a total physco, but he doesn’t like taking shit from anybody. As long as you don’t try to aggravate him he won’t do anything rash. He’s quite the nice and reasonable guy underneath his thorns. So long as you don’t get on his bad side he’ll be a nice dude to stick by.

Background: Aster starting out as a lowly hoodlum who's job is to hide evidence for his gang, “The Shadow Claw”. However, one day the law finally caught up with the gang and in a last minute decision the head of the gang decided someone needed to take the fall as they escaped. That person just so happened to be Aster and he was locked in a building until the cops finally busted through the door and cuffed the kid. Unable to find any more leads the police decide to do something unordinary and use Aster to help catch the rest of his gang. However, they soon realize the kid is pretty damn good at investigating. Eventually they caught the rest of his former friends and the leader as well. After which Aster was ready to be hauled off to a cell, however, after he showed his prowess on the field they higher ups decided to offer him a special deal. They would allow him to skip jail time if he agrees to become an investigator, under parole of course. With not many options left, Aster agrees and he passes through the basics with fly colors and spends a year or two to become certified. However he's still under parole to this day and has a tracker hooked to his leg. Just in case the kid gets any funny ideas.

Pokemon Name: Frostbite
Starter Pokemon Species: Sneasel (Male) [In a Dusk Ball]. Frost helps him find concealed/hidden evidence with his keen eye. The ice mon is also good at tracking and shadowing possible criminals with his natural hunter abilities. Plus, he’s the buddy Aster had from way back in his hoodlum days, no way they’re parting ways. His father was a skilled Weavile somewhere in his low level 60’s.

Trained skills:
Pick Claws: A Sneasel’s claws are useful for more than mauling people, training while as a gangster has taunt this dark type to use his claws as natural lockpicks. [+1 to Criminal]

Shadowing Menace: Being a natural hunter a Sneasel knows how to stalk its prey without being detected. This can be useful when shadowing a potential suspect. [+1 to Pursuit]

Deceitful Battle Tactics: Fighting dirty is another one of Sneasel’s specialties. Gaining an advantage when they haven’t noticed or aren’t focused on the trickster. [+1 Combat]

Keen Interrogator: Using his sharp eyesight the dark type can notice slight movements or oddities in his target. This come extremely useful when trying to seeing if someone is lying. [+1 Communication]

Species Traits: Sneasels are a natural at hiding in the shadows. They like to startle their prey by quickly unsheathing their claws. They move swiftly in order to steal eggs from nests and can scale walls with it’s hooked claws. They can also leave signals by carving it in things with their claws. Scratches from their claws have the tendency to give frostbite.

Jayden Arcwile

Name: Jayden Arcwile 
Codename: Indigo
Age: 23
Sex- Male
Appearance- He has messy untamable black hair that no amount of jell can fix. He enjoys wearing a white hoodie with teal cuffs. He wears long black cargo pants. Owlish glasses adorn his face. Fairly average build, although a bit wimpy. He is standing at 5’8/1.727 meters tall. 
 
Personality- Jayden is commonly quiet, although passionate in things he enjoys. He is socially awkward in conversations. A bit of a pessimist
 
Background: Jayden comes from a rich upper class background, yet he doesn’t like to show it. He was bullied for his physical weakness at the beginning of his education, but fit into the more artsy nerdy cliche at school. He managed to become stealthy and  evade bullies at school, but he struggles socially and with confrontation as a result. He has been with starters his dad bought him in the past but none fit with him except Inkay, Inva. Inva helped Jayden ace tests throughout college and eventually he graduated a year early. Specializing in computer science, he started a business of fixing computers. He spent his free time playing investigation games and reading books. He would even occasionally phone the police with his helpful opinion on current cases. Eventually he got a call about a detective job offer. Deciding he had a career to fall back on, he accepted. 
 
Inva
starter pokemon: Inkay
[Female, Premier Ball] Inva was a gift from Jayden’s father and the two formed a sort of symbiotic relationship. Inva would cheer Jayden up and Jayden would be the serious one of the two, able to stay on task.

Mesmerizing Lights- Inva’s powers are not fully developed, but are strong enough to influence some people to bend to its will. +1 Communication 
 
Pacification Tactics- Using the blinking pattern of lights it tries to control their mind and get them to leave. If it doesn’t work, the distraction can leave them open to a hit.  +1 Combat
 
Natural Lamp- Using the lights in it’s head, which are normally used for hypnosis, it can act as a low powered living lamp. +1 investigation. 
 
Binding tentacles- The length of Inva’s tentacles are fairly long, and they provide wonderful suction. It could potentially wrap around someone’s legs and slow them down. +1 Pursuit
 
[Species Trait] Inkay’s are not water typed, but can travel through water with ease, albeit a little slow. They can distract foes with its lights and complex movements. It’s body lacks a large backbone as it is mainly made of cartilage. It can squeeze into tight spaces as a result. It can also have silent conversations with other Inkay through their lights.

Name: Arlen Eldes
Codename: Bard

Age: 30
Gender: Male
Appearance: About 5'9 with long, straight brown hair, hazel eyes and an average build. Usually wears a dark green jacket with many pockets, but no adornment, and has jackets of several other colors when necessary. Always has a pair of noise-cancelling headphones either on or around his neck. Carries around a small box for his lute as well as various tools for his job. 

 

Personality: Laid back and quiet, he takes his job seriously but only just so. Loves history and enjoys writing/playing music, as well as writing stories. However, he can be rather blunt when something is troubling him, and doesn't seem to notice if he accidentally offends someone. Never turns down an opportunity to perform.

 

Backstory: Coming from a long line of detectives, Arlen had no interest in the family business and instead wanted to become a famous musician. Things didn't work out so well though, and he found himself performing for cheap, and in less than savory places. After only a few years in Canalave with relatively little success, he was ambushed walking back from a gig in one of it worst areas, and the lute that had been in his family for generations was stolen by a gang. It was his most prized possession, and as a result, he decided to do everything in his power to get it back. This included performing in even less savory places, looking for leads as to the whereabouts of the gang. Eventually, he got it back by buying it from a pawn shop for an exorbitant amount of money, but his grudge against the gang never faded. They had tried to tarnish his work, which in his eyes was unforgivable. The money for the lute came from his father on the condition that he would enter the family business, and knowing what little success he had in music, he reluctantly agreed. He was already familiar with the vast network of criminals through his work in finding the lute, and eventually, he was picked up by an agency because of his connections and his family name.

 

One of his first jobs was stopping the theft of pokemon eggs and one of them hatched into a Swablu that became his partner in both music and detective work.

Nature: Jolly
Ability: Cloud Nine
Moves:

Trained Skills:


Cuteness -  Auri's adorable appearance makes her popular with women and men alike (+1 Communication).

 

Flight - The ability to fly makes it far easier to keep tabs on fleeing targets, and she can sing in various tones to alert Arlen of any alterations in his course needed (+1 Pursuit).

 

Cotton Tricks - Both being able to use her wings to disguise herself as a hat (and thus disgusing her owner) and the natural cleansing abilities of her wings allow her to help directly in investigations (+1 Investigation).

 

Distracting Dissonance - The various tones she can sing with can be both ear-piercing and beautiful, invoking different emotions in her targets that distract them from what they happen to be doing when she starts (+1 Criminal).

 

Species Traits:


Swablu loves to make things clean. If it spots something dirty, it will wipe and polish it with its cottony wings. For some reason, it likes to land on people's heads softly and act like it's a hat. It is also used to and not frightened by people.

Kaynus Maugier and Zaru

 

 

Name: Kaynus Maugier (Kayn)

Codename: Joker

Age: 18

Sex: Male

Appearance: Kayn has green eyes, is blonde and has short hair. He wears a black suit that goes down to the shin. Due to his short stature (1.60m / 5'2"), the sleeves of the suit cover his hands, making him look like a child. He always wear the black top hat Horun gave him. Usually is with Zaru on his shoulder.

Personality: Kayn is a very happy-looking person. He loves to talk, and has an opinion for everything. He sometimes behave like a child, but actually he is very smart. He also likes to make some magic tricks he learned to the other people, and is a very playful person. He doesn't like when people think he is a child, and also doesn't like to reveal that his family died, because everyone starts acting weird aroung him, so he just lies about it. Kayn isn't much sentimental, so he hardly get's sad or frustated with something, and when he gets, he can easily mask it.

 

Background:

Kaynus Maugier was born in a very rich and powerful family. Even being rich, the family was very famous for helping the poor, and didn’t possess any enemies. The Maugier family was know all across the region.

 

On a night like any other, when Kaynus was eight, he was sleeping, when suddenly he hears the noise of fire crackles and stuff falling. He wakes up without understanding what was happening when he sees smoke coming into his room. He then noticed that his house was catching fire. The first thing that made was to open the door of his room to try to escape. When he opened the door, he found himself surrounded by fire on all sides. He had nowhere to run. His only choice was the window, but his room was on the fourth floor of the mansion, and jumping from there would take him to death.

 

Almost giving up from trying to escape from his room, Kaynus hears knocks on his window. When he opened it, he sees Zaru, his mother's Aipom. Without even giving Kaynus time to react, Zaru grabs him with its hands (Zaru was able to do that because Kaynus was very small and skinny at that time), and using the tail to go down the wall, Zaru carried Kaynus to safety.

 

The next day, when Kaynus returned to his home, he sees hundreds of people around his burned house when he finds a newspaper on the floor, the first page had a an article with the title "The Maugier Disaster." When Kayn started reading the newspaper, tears begin to fall from his eyes. In the page was a picture of each one of his relatives, and below it was written "Dead." His photo was also in the newspaper, but with the word "Missing." The newspaper also said that the cops discovered that the fire was arson.

 

The only place Kaynus could go was to his uncle’s house. But his uncle, Roger, and his father were quarreled and had not spoken with each other for years, that Kaynus never got to know him. He knew Roger would not accept him into his house.

 

Kaynus, also not wanting to go to the orphanage, decided to try to survive by his own in the world, with his Aipom Zaru. With no other way out, Kaynus trained Zaru to steal money from other people.

 

A few months have passed, and Kayn (his new name) and Zaru were already proficient at stealing wallets. While one distracted the person, the other came behind and take the wallet; it always worked.

 

They spotted their new target: a tall man wearing a black outfit and a top hat. He seemed to be rich, and part of his wallet was in sight. It would be an easy target for the pair.

 

Then they put the scheme in action: While Kayn distracted the man, Zaru would sneak behind and pick up the wallet. The plan was successful, and after picking up the wallet, both returned to the alley where they were living. When Kayn opened the wallet, he made a surprised and confused face. The wallet had nothing but a small piece of paper saying, "Did you think it was going to be easy?"

 

The mysterious man then appears, and to Kayn's surprise, he was not angry. Kayn was even more surprised when the man called him to go to work at the circus as his assistant, claiming to be a magician, and introduced himself. His name was Horun.

 

This seemed to be the chance of his life, and without a second thought, Kayn accepted the invitation, and became Horun's assistant. But Kayn knew he would not stay in the circus forever, because he always dreamed to become a detective, which was now a much more important goal, since he could find out who started the fire in his house if he could become a detective.

 

Years went by, when Kayn finally became an adult. It was his time to leave the circus and go in search of his dreams. Kayn had learned a lot from Horun, and respected him a lot, making say goodbye more difficult. Horun gave his top hat as a gift for Kayn, to always remember him.

 

With a big smile on his face, Kayn left the circus to started his long-cherished career, promising that one day they would meet again.

Species Traits: Zaru is very proficient with his tail, using it for just about anything. It is able to move around buildings and other obstacles easily, and also steal things without anyone noticing. Likes to do pranks with others, and sometimes acts without Kayn's knowledge. Zaru does not like to saty inside of the Pokeball, so most of the time he stays on Kayn's shoulder.

Age: 23
Gender: girl

 

Appearance: Jeanna is rather tall for a young woman standing somewhere between 5'9" and 5'10" with light skin and emerald green eyes with a modest bust. She has long roses pink colored hair that she usually keeps in a braid tied off with a silken black bow as well as having a similar bow to keep her bangs out of her eyes. When working she wears a purple and white striped t-shirt with a purple zipper hoodie that has bunny ears attached to the hood and large puffy pom poms on the drawstrings. She accompanies that with a long frilly black skirt with a light blue belt resting on her hips and a pair of tights to cover her legs and finishes it off with a pair of purple and white sneakers. She has a lot of other clothing as well that varies in case she needs a disguise for something.  

 

Personality: Jeanne is a happy go, lucky girl, that gets easily distracted by things(even more so when she gets bored.)She can be rather insensitive to people of the lower class though it's not usually intended to be that way.  Or at least that how she wants people to see her she is actually a rather clever girl knowing quite well that a light personality and looks can get you more information and she makes good use of both.

 

Background: Jeanne is the youngest of the children of the Montgomery Family in Unova. Not one who was going to inherit much from the family other them a small fortune she was left to her own devices well her siblings were taught the family business. So well they were having to learn paperwork and policies Jeanna was out spending money and interacting with people or whatever else caught her fancy. During those times Jeanna found out that her usual cute appearance combined with her easy going attitude towards people made others let down their guard and would tell her things that they normally wouldn't. As she Eventually though she grew bored of living the life of the rich and getting boring old men to tell her of there young mistresses or other skeletons in the closest they had. So she from using her family connections she managed to grease the right palms (aka had her daddy pull some strings) and was brought in to join the Private Detective Agency. Which she is hoping to find a few more entertaining things for her. 

 

Pokemon Name: Satin

 

Starter Pokemon Species: Feebas. Well, normally a Feebas probably wouldn't be one that would be allowed Satin is hardly your normal Feebas. Being one that actually can do more than splash Jeanna managed to convince those above to let her keep it due to the clever use of its moves.

Moves: Splash, Confuse Ray, Hypnosis

 

Trained skills:

 

All hail the Hypno Fish: Satin can use hypnosis to put people into a daze making them very loose with information (+1 Criminal)

Appearance: About 167 cm tall. A woman of average build. She wears a brown jacket and a pair of jeans. Underneath, is a black t-shirt with a gray keyhole shape enveloping a smaller, pink oval, in the middle. She has ruby red eyes, with almost pale skin and black pigtails reaching her shoulders. Her pigtails are held by two red ribbons. There are several pockets in her jacket, with a variety of locksmith tools lined neatly in them. Lastly, she wears a pair of blue and teal green sneakers.
Personality: Serra is a hard-working girl, though she isn't particularly optimistic about the future. Instead, she focuses on what is at hand. When working, she is calm, and almost mute. The world could collapse around her and she would still be picking the lock in front of her. She knows how to reward herself with what she called "little bliss" in her life, though, with a somewhat refined taste in dining, and generous with spending money to get such bliss.

Background: 

Born to a family of locksmiths in Orre, Serra learned all about locksmithing from her father since she was young. She did not perform particularly well in academics, so she returned to her father's shop and worked for him instead after she graduated from high school. The security down in the Under got worse about then, and she grew more and more tired of dealing with petty thieves, so she made it clear to her father that she wanted to open her own shop elsewhere. Her father granted her a parting gift in one of the younger Klefki (nicknamed Cleffy) used to catch trespassing thieves, and bid her farewell.

She journeyed to the massive city of Castelia and opened up the Clavis Locksmith Service in one of the skyscrapers. She even designed the logo for her own service, being the logo on her t-shirt. Normally, she would just help the poor souls who locked themselves out and get them back into their houses, but she snooped around and found a new business opportunity - claiming bounties for stolen goods. With a few connections through her customers, she got into the black market trade scene and obtained info on the flow of goods. She followed antiques in particular, stealing them from rich, yet shady men, and returning them to museums. The wealth of bounties she claimed allowed her to hold her own against the high rents of Castelia apartments.

One of the museum owners referred her to a private detective agency, and she decided to take the offer simply because of the better pay. Of course, that meant she had to put her own business on pause. She then bought a cheap warehouse-house in Nacrene City and moved in there.

Starter Pokemon Species: Klefki. A parting gift from Serra's father. Its vast list of utility makes it a very powerful partner in both locksmithing, investigating, and catching thieves.

Personality: Serious, obsessive, overexcited (in a serious way) during his job, loves movies
Outside job he shows some dry humor, and consider his free time as the holy time where he can be extremely relaxed and laid back to the point of his colleagues wondering if he is even the same person.   He is a more practical person and absolutely hates  theory.

Background:  

As a child, Horace was bullied a lot at school due to him being too short and physically weak. He would occasionally go and cry at the small artificial pond in the corner of the school grounds.  A horsea inhabiting the pond was usually helping his mood improve during those times. It was rather small, and was bullied too by the other inhabitants of the pond for it. Due to their common circumstances, they quickly bonded.

He eventually got a pokeball and brought the horsea home to spend more time with it, and save it from the bullying in the pond.  He liked watching police movies, where the badass defenders of justice would show evildoers who’s boss, and hoped he could one day do the same to his bullies. The male horsea was also watching the movies with Horace, and seemed to like the action.  What he seemed to like more though, was the intimidation that the gesture of holding a gun caused, and he seemed to get a rush when there was gunfire. It did not take long for Horace and the horsea start playing pretend, him being the righteous policeman and the horsea excitingly roleplaying as a gun, bringing invisible criminals to justice. Due to this, he decided to name him Magnum.

As he was finishing his teens, he got through a pretty drastic growth spurt, and was now on a more than average height. This, in addition to him frequenting the gym,  had for the most part fixed his issue of being an attractive bully target. However whenever he was seeing other high school mates being treated like he was some years ago, he would always intervene. He didn’t want others to go through what he went. It was not long before he had already set his goals on what he would want to become.

Things were not very easy for him though. He was never the brightest student, and his grades were average at best. He needed pretty above average grades to join the academy. He spent three years failing to get good final exam grades at school. Then he decided to spend some years doing odd jobs so that he instead go to a private academy and get it over with. Which is what he did.

He didn’t slack during all those no-academy years though. He had joined a paintball group, and was pretty active there. Though he was using Magnum and his ink instead of the regular paint guns, that way both of them were training in combat simulation. At least in that more practical area he was very satisfied with his performance, nothing like the hateful theory classes. He also attended a shooting range to familiarize himself with real guns, because sometimes a non-living, metallic gun is better to use. He then bought his own handgun, and practiced with it, as well as dual-wielding horsea and gun at the same time.  However he is dead broke, so he barely has any money for ammunition even to this day.

After taking more than the expected years to finish the academy because of said theory classes haunting him to oblivion,  he was now on his beginning of his career, distinguished licence and all,  at the ripe age of 29. Better late than never, one would guess.

 


Pokemon Name:Magnum
Starter Pokemon Species: Horsea.  
Happy to roleplay, and be pretty darn effective, as a gun, as well as sufficiently trained,  Magnum was an easy choice for Horace to start his career with. His smaller than normal size makes him pretty discreet. Magnum likes to chill in the spacious inside pocket of Horace’s detective coat, from which he would be readily pulled out and aimed to any problem. His father was most certainly an octillery, of level 25-27.

Intimidation: Years of roleplaying, have aided Magnum in him becoming as intimidating as if he were a real gun, when pointed on someone. Simply the way he stares the very souls of his would-be targets would make them wish he was a real gun instead.  [+1 to Criminal]

 

Trigger Happy: What gun would Magnum be without anything remotely similar to a trigger? It would sure as hell cause him existential crisis. To simulate that, he reacts to which finger Horace taps on his belly as he is holding him, each delegated to one of his four moves. This is beneficial in two ways. One, it means that the opponents do not know what attack to expect, when to expect. Two, it causes for faster move execution, since both the “trigger”, and Magnum’s reaction to it, are faster than the average verbal command and a pokemon’s reaction to that.  [+1 to combat]

 

Precision: Years of paintball practice, have aided Magnum in being adept in hitting moving targets. This aids him in immobilising ex-problems that are trying to run away by hitting them in precise spots, like their ankle or something, ensuring they retain their ex- status.  [+1 Pursuit]

 

Cutify: This is Magnum when he simply stops roleplaying as a gun. He becomes as irresistibly cute as a normal horsea, usually making it easier to appeal to the ladies and whoever melts on the sight of a cute pokemon, and make them drop their guard. Usually it makes them relaxed enough to give away secrets or items that they shouldn’t. [+1 Communication]

 


Species Traits:  As a horsea, Magnum is naturally adept at shooting moving targets, a trait that inserts flying insects into their diet. He also is very quick to almost reflexively shoot ink to any sudden threat that might appear.  He can swim pretty fast if water is available. Apparently being bullied makes you swim faster than average.

(They don’t actually glow the design has them glow) This was his previous gang symbol He doesn’t put his arm through the sleeves, rather he lets it rest on his shoulders while being connect in the front by a small chain. The ends of his jeans are hidden under his high boots that are covered with buckles. On his right ankle there is his tacker with a built-in taser to simulate a pikachu’s thunderbolt should he try to do anything funny. Black long curly hair with the tips dyed red.

Personality: The boy tends to be aggressive, quick to anger and likes to speak his mind. He won’t hesitate to call someone out and knock their teeth in with his fist. That’s not to say he’s a total physco, but he doesn’t like taking shit from anybody. As long as you don’t try to aggravate him he won’t do anything rash. He’s quite the nice and reasonable guy underneath his thorns. So long as you don’t get on his bad side he’ll be a nice dude to stick by.

Background: Aster starting out as a lowly hoodlum who's job is to hide evidence for his gang, “The Shadow Claw”. However, one day the law finally caught up with the gang and in a last minute decision the head of the gang decided someone needed to take the fall as they escaped. That person just so happened to be Aster and he was locked in a building until the cops finally busted through the door and cuffed the kid. Unable to find any more leads the police decide to do something unordinary and use Aster to help catch the rest of his gang. However, they soon realize the kid is pretty damn good at investigating. Eventually they caught the rest of his former friends and the leader as well. After which Aster was ready to be hauled off to a cell, however, after he showed his prowess on the field they higher ups decided to offer him a special deal. They would allow him to skip jail time if he agrees to become an investigator, under parole of course. With not many options left, Aster agrees and he passes through the basics with fly colors and spends a year or two to become certified. However he's still under parole to this day and has a tracker hooked to his leg. Just in case the kid gets any funny ideas.

Pokemon Name: Frostbite
Starter Pokemon Species: Sneasel (Male) [In a Dusk Ball]. Frost helps him find concealed/hidden evidence with his keen eye. The ice mon is also good at tracking and shadowing possible criminals with his natural hunter abilities. Plus, he’s the buddy Aster had from way back in his hoodlum days, no way they’re parting ways. His father was a skilled Weavile somewhere in his low level 60’s.

Keen Interrogator: Using his sharp eyesight the dark type can notice slight movements or oddities in his target. This come extremely useful when trying to seeing if someone is lying. [+1 Communication]

Species Traits: Sneasels are a natural at hiding in the shadows. They like to startle their prey by quickly unsheathing their claws. They move swiftly in order to steal eggs from nests and can scale walls with it’s hooked claws. They can also leave signals by carving it in things with their claws. Scratches from their claws have the tendency to give frostbite.

Personality: Laid back and quiet, he takes his job seriously but only just so. Loves history and enjoys writing/playing music, as well as writing stories. However, he can be rather blunt when something is troubling him, and doesn't seem to notice if he accidentally offends someone. Never turns down an opportunity to perform.

 

Backstory: Coming from a long line of detectives, Arlen had no interest in the family business and instead wanted to become a famous musician. Things didn't work out so well though, and he found himself performing for cheap, and in less than savory places. After only a few years in Canalave with relatively little success, he was ambushed walking back from a gig in one of it worst areas, and the lute that had been in his family for generations was stolen by a gang. It was his most prized possession, and as a result, he decided to do everything in his power to get it back. This included performing in even less savory places, looking for leads as to the whereabouts of the gang. Eventually, he got it back by buying it from a pawn shop for an exorbitant amount of money, but his grudge against the gang never faded. They had tried to tarnish his work, which in his eyes was unforgivable. The money for the lute came from his father on the condition that he would enter the family business, and knowing what little success he had in music, he reluctantly agreed. He was already familiar with the vast network of criminals through his work in finding the lute, and eventually, he was picked up by an agency because of his connections and his family name.

 

One of his first jobs was stopping the theft of pokemon eggs and one of them hatched into a Swablu that became his partner in both music and detective work.

Distracting Dissonance - The various tones she can sing with can be both ear-piercing and beautiful, invoking different emotions in her targets that distract them from what they happen to be doing when she starts (+1 Criminal).

Swablu loves to make things clean. If it spots something dirty, it will wipe and polish it with its cottony wings. For some reason, it likes to land on people's heads softly and act like it's a hat. It is also used to and not frightened by people.

Personality: Kayn is a very happy-looking person. He loves to talk, and has an opinion for everything. He sometimes behave like a child, but actually he is very smart. He also likes to make some magic tricks he learned to the other people, and is a very playful person. He doesn't like when people think he is a child, and also doesn't like to reveal that his family died, because everyone starts acting weird aroung him, so he just lies about it. Kayn isn't much sentimental, so he hardly get's sad or frustated with something, and when he gets, he can easily mask it.

 

Background:

Kaynus Maugier was born in a very rich and powerful family. Even being rich, the family was very famous for helping the poor, and didn’t possess any enemies. The Maugier family was know all across the region.

 

On a night like any other, when Kaynus was eight, he was sleeping, when suddenly he hears the noise of fire crackles and stuff falling. He wakes up without understanding what was happening when he sees smoke coming into his room. He then noticed that his house was catching fire. The first thing that made was to open the door of his room to try to escape. When he opened the door, he found himself surrounded by fire on all sides. He had nowhere to run. His only choice was the window, but his room was on the fourth floor of the mansion, and jumping from there would take him to death.

 

Almost giving up from trying to escape from his room, Kaynus hears knocks on his window. When he opened it, he sees Zaru, his mother's Aipom. Without even giving Kaynus time to react, Zaru grabs him with its hands (Zaru was able to do that because Kaynus was very small and skinny at that time), and using the tail to go down the wall, Zaru carried Kaynus to safety.

 

The next day, when Kaynus returned to his home, he sees hundreds of people around his burned house when he finds a newspaper on the floor, the first page had a an article with the title "The Maugier Disaster." When Kayn started reading the newspaper, tears begin to fall from his eyes. In the page was a picture of each one of his relatives, and below it was written "Dead." His photo was also in the newspaper, but with the word "Missing." The newspaper also said that the cops discovered that the fire was arson.

 

The only place Kaynus could go was to his uncle’s house. But his uncle, Roger, and his father were quarreled and had not spoken with each other for years, that Kaynus never got to know him. He knew Roger would not accept him into his house.

 

Kaynus, also not wanting to go to the orphanage, decided to try to survive by his own in the world, with his Aipom Zaru. With no other way out, Kaynus trained Zaru to steal money from other people.

 

A few months have passed, and Kayn (his new name) and Zaru were already proficient at stealing wallets. While one distracted the person, the other came behind and take the wallet; it always worked.

 

They spotted their new target: a tall man wearing a black outfit and a top hat. He seemed to be rich, and part of his wallet was in sight. It would be an easy target for the pair.

 

Then they put the scheme in action: While Kayn distracted the man, Zaru would sneak behind and pick up the wallet. The plan was successful, and after picking up the wallet, both returned to the alley where they were living. When Kayn opened the wallet, he made a surprised and confused face. The wallet had nothing but a small piece of paper saying, "Did you think it was going to be easy?"

 

The mysterious man then appears, and to Kayn's surprise, he was not angry. Kayn was even more surprised when the man called him to go to work at the circus as his assistant, claiming to be a magician, and introduced himself. His name was Horun.

 

This seemed to be the chance of his life, and without a second thought, Kayn accepted the invitation, and became Horun's assistant. But Kayn knew he would not stay in the circus forever, because he always dreamed to become a detective, which was now a much more important goal, since he could find out who started the fire in his house if he could become a detective.

 

Years went by, when Kayn finally became an adult. It was his time to leave the circus and go in search of his dreams. Kayn had learned a lot from Horun, and respected him a lot, making say goodbye more difficult. Horun gave his top hat as a gift for Kayn, to always remember him.

 

With a big smile on his face, Kayn left the circus to started his long-cherished career, promising that one day they would meet again.

Quick Hands (Or Tail): Experienced at stealing from other people, Zaru is capable of stealing items without being noticed. (+1 to Criminal)

 

Irresistible Charm: Being a cute Aipom, Kayn learned how to use Zaru's cuteness to manipulate others. (+1 to Communication)

 

Parkour: Having a natural agility and being proficient at using the trees, houses and other buildings to move, Zaru can easily catch a target, fool people, or escape from situations. (+1 to Pursuit)

 

Species Traits: Zaru is very proficient with his tail, using it for just about anything. It is able to move around buildings and other obstacles easily, and also steal things without anyone noticing. Likes to do pranks with others, and sometimes acts without Kayn's knowledge. Zaru does not like to saty inside of the Pokeball, so most of the time he stays on Kayn's shoulder.

Appearance: Jeanna is a rather tall for a young woman standing somewhere between 5'9" and 5'10" with light skin and emerald green eyes with a modest bust. She has long roses pink colored hair that she usually keeps in a braid tied off with a silken black bow as well as having a similar bow to keep her bangs out of her eyes. When working she wears a purple and white stripped t-shirt with a purple zipper hoodie that has bunny ears attached to the hood and large puffy pom poms on the draw strings. She accompanies that with a long frilly black skirt with with a light blue belt resting on her hips and a pair of tights to cover her legs and finishes it off with a pair of purple and white sneakers. She has alot of other clothing as well that varies in case she needs a disguise for something.  

 

Personality: Jeanne is a happy go lucky girl, that gets easily distracted by things(even more so when she gets board.)She can be rather insensitive to people of the lower class though its not usually intended to be that way.  Or at least that how she wants people to see her she is actually a rather clever girl knowing quite well that a light personality and looks can get you more information and she makes good use of both.

 

Background:Jeanne is the youngest of the children of the Montgomery Family in Unova. Not one who was going to inherit much from the family other them a small fortune she was left to her own devices well her siblings where taught the family business. So well they where having to learn paper work and policies Jeanna was out spending money and interacting  with people or what ever else caught her fancy. During those times Jeanna found out that her usual cute appearance combined with her easy going  attitude towards people  made others let down their guard and would tell her things that they normally wouldn't. As she Eventually though she grew bored of living the life of the rich and getting boring old men to tell her of there young mistress's or other skeletons in the closest they had. So she using her family connections she managed to grease the right palms (aka had her daddy pull some strings) and was brought in to join the Private Detective Agency. Which she is hoping to find a few more entertaining things for her. 

 

Pokemon Name: Satin

 

Starter Pokemon Species: Feebas. Well normally a Feebas probably wouldn't be one that would be allowed Satin is hardly your normal Feebas. Being one that actually can do more then splash Jeanna managed to convince those above to let her keep it do to clever use of its moves.

 

Nature: Modest

 

Ability: swift Swim

 

Moves: Splash, Confuse Ray, Hypnosis

 

Trained skills:

 

All hail the Hypno Fish: Satin can use hypnosis to put people into a daze making them very loose with information (+1 Criminal)

 

Greatest Distraction: Satin uses splash showing its complete patheticness causing others to let down their guard (+1 Combat)

 

Such and Ugly pathetic thing: Do to it apparent patheticness  the lower class feel more comfortable talking to Jeanne when its out (+1 Communication)

 

That's not the right way: Satin uses Confuse Ray on fleeing perps making it harder for them to get away (+1 Pursuit) 

 

Species Traits: Feebas are largely ignored when seen so they make for a great surveillance and do to their hardy constitutions they can be used in all types of waters.

Appearance: About 167 cm tall. A woman of average build. She wears a brown jacket and a pair of jeans. Personality: Serra is a hard-working girl, though she isn't particularly optimistic about the future. Instead, she focuses on what is at hand. When working, she is calm, and almost mute. The world could collapse around her and she would still be picking the lock in front of her. She knows how to reward herself with what she called "little bliss" in her life, though, with a somewhat refined taste in dining, and generous with spending money to get such bliss.

Background: 

Born to a family of locksmiths in Orre, Serra learned all about locksmithing from her father since she was young. She did not perform particularly well in academics, so she returned to her father's shop and worked for him instead after she graduated from high school. The security down in the Under got worse about then, and she grew more and more tired of dealing with petty thieves, so she made it clear to her father that she wanted to open her own shop elsewhere. Her father granted her a parting gift in one of the younger Klefki (nicknamed Cleffy) used to catch trespassing thieves, and bid her farewell.

She journeyed to the massive city of Castelia and opened up the Clavis Locksmith Service in one of the skyscrapers. She even designed the logo for her own service, being the logo on her t-shirt. Normally, she would just help the poor souls who locked themselves out and get them back into their houses, but she snooped around and found a new business opportunity - claiming bounties for stolen goods. With a few connections through her customers, she got into the black market trade scene and obtained info on the flow of goods. She followed antiques in particular, stealing them from rich, yet shady men, and returning them to museums. The wealth of bounties she claimed allowed her to hold her own against the high rents of Castelia apartments.

One of the museum owners referred her to a private detective agency, and she decided to take the offer simply because of the better pay. Of course, that meant she had to put her own business on pause. She then bought a cheap warehouse-house in Nacrene City and moved in there.

Starter Pokemon Species: Klefki. A parting gift from Serra's father. Its vast list of utility makes it a very powerful partner in both locksmithing, investigating, and catching thieves.

Moves: Fairy Lock, Fairy Wind, Switcheroo, Metal Sound

Trained skills:


Locksmithing: Having learned from Serra, Cleffy can too pick locks by using Serra's tools. (+2 Investigation)

No Escape: Cleffy's very proficient with its devious Fairy Locks, allowing her to lock down the perimeters with a flexible radius. (+2 Pursuit)

Klefki, well, are kleptomaniacs. Its diet is made up of minerals in general, and it eats by inserting its horn into chinks in metal. Kinda like when you insert a key into a brass lock, actually. Oh, and it jingles its keys fiercely at attackers whenever it feels threatened.

Adara met her Gastly on the day she and her parents found out that her sister got kidnapped. that day Addy, went for a walk in the city and while passing near an old theatre she heard music "..... Its cute in a way, till you cannot speak, And you leave to have a cigarette, your knees get weak
An escape is just a nod and a casual wave, Obsessed about it, heavy for the next two days ...."
 

She decided to enter but the place was empty. apparently this theatre is abandonned, she felt a chill down her spine and started to walk out..she turned her head a last time, only to see a Gastly floating aimlessly, for a moment she forgot about the workd and decided to keep this Gastly company, they spent the night in the theatre, Adara talked about her family, how they had a decent life, and how she had a wonderful sister, she also talked about how she's feeling, now that her sister went missing, Gastly did not leave her side, its like he was listening to her, he just floated next to her.She stopped talking and Looked at Gastly, he had tears in his eyes,like its thanking her for staying with him. Gastly used Hypnosis and showed Adara a dream, she saw people coming into the theatre only to ran away screaming at the sight of Gastly, she knew it has been lonely all these years, that it longed for the company of a human.A while later,she woke up from her dream. Sun light was flowing into the theatre through the windows. She did not realize it was morning already, she had to go back home, she promised Gastly that she would visit again. And as she was walking back home she felt like she was being followed, she stopped and turned around, Gastly has followed her.she did not mind, she continued her way home but she had no idea what was waiting for her: at the sight of Gastly her parents tried to attack it, her mom even sent out her Budew.. Adara suddenly stepped in between her parents and Gastly and defended him, said that he's her only friend, the only one who listened to her and did not complain, she said that she loved his company. Nature: Hasty; Hunny has a bit of capriciousness to her in that she seems to follow her own trains of thought. She is obedient overall and will answer to commands due to conditioning, but regardless, Hunny seems to receive no immediate gratification from her acts of obedience. Hunny even assumes as much of a "no-nonsense" attitude as a Ditto really can in the presence of her investigative partner; she must view herself on equal standing, all while failing to possess even the slightest understanding of human culture and proceedings. 


Ability: Limber; full immunity to paralysis. 

 

Move: Transform; the ability to assume a physical recreation of a single target unless disrupted through rough physical contact, i.e. stepping on, tickling, etc. Hunny is well-versed in her options for metamorphosis, but cannot turn into something smaller than herself (.3 meters). She also lacks the capacity to transform into anything from memory, imagination, or from representative media, i.e. a photograph, a movie.
