Pokemon in Space [IC Chapter #03]

Radovan couldn't help but add "Young mistress would make an acceptable substitute actually, it means almost the same thing, but it is much more feminine". He stood there for a while, not really saying or doing anything until he realized that he is just an endless series of questions right now "Why are we meeting the Vice President anyway? Did we uh...do something particularly wrong?".

His response for her obedient action  was an expression of disdain.  Which was pretty aggravating for Cathode.

She took back the A-comm after certain possible modifications or installed software were done to it from an angle where she couldn't watch.

Depending on how one could see it,  it was either slightly relieving, or worrisome that there weren't any noticeable   differences in the device.

She felt the pressure of his look upon her again while she was still fidgeting the A-comm, though by the time she raised her head he was already talking.

When he was done, she was at least finally certain that her previous assumptions about this man were correct.

The tasks she was ordered to do were not anything terrible. Just to attend the mechanic's as overtime.  In different circumstances she would have been pretty happy about that.

Everything else in that speech though,  made it quite clear that she was being held by the nose,  with the closest thing to a 'choice' being "I'm gonna keep holding you by the nose, or you fall. Okay?" .

The icing of the cake was his mocking on her Cadet status in the end.  As if saying, that it might have not been existing anymore if he wished,  or he was just mocking the whole Cadet thing since he obviously had nowhere near such mentality himself. In any case, it felt both insulting and humiliating.. yet again.

What kind of modding did he do to her device anyway?  The first thing that came to mind would be a tracking software,  or even a sound recording one. This would have tightened his threads even more around her.

She figured the best course of action for the near future would be to play her part in his game, until she finds a way to knock off some of his control over her.

"You are perfectly clear Sir. I will do my best to honor your lenience."  She replied while looking at him with the proudest military-like look she could muster, hoping he isn't some psychic.

If she gained anything from this encounter, was realizing that her freaking out by interactions with unknown people was mainly because she didn't know what to expect from them.  After getting a good grasp of this man's true colors and possible goals, she wasn't freaked out from him anymore.  Afraid, yes, but nothing like how she would normally react.

She only hoped most of the other humans in her immediate environment weren't assholes like Mason.

Kalva smiled a little awkwardly, and asked no further. But needless to say, what they were saying was quite odd. They insisted they couldn't read peoples' minds, and yet the only way they could have known he was trying to 'message' them was if they could read his mind, or at least receive psychic inference. It was a direct contradiction. In addition, they mentioned something about in a 'previous life' but... then they said they have not reincarnated except for Alakazam... needless to say, these facts didn't quite add up.

Were they trying to lie about something? If they did have psychic powers, then why would they try to hide it? And could they be trusted, if they were willing to lie to them...?

No, Kalva assumed himself. They must be good people. Otherwise Gina would have mistrusted them, and Gina has never gone wrong before.

The elevator's door closes, Radovan's questions only answered by a short nod and confirmation that it may be done in the future if they so wished, leading the group downwards...

SPACE AETHER HQ

- B9 Cadet HQ -

**NPCs at the scene: Zeta, Kadabra, Alakazam**

With a relieving ping, the elevator stops after quite a short bit of time. On the screen above the floor buttons is the number 'B9' indicating a level below ground, which, in #00's case, meant below the city's level.

The Cadet Headquarters were designed much like the rest of the Space Aether HQ, clean white. What set it apart was that, when the group exited the elevator, they found themselves in an  open circular space on the West and East sides, leading most likely to the far ends of the HQ building and opening into a majestic view of a pure blue sky. One would imagine the floor was fully open like this, but the truth was the walls were made of glass. Loads of sofas and arm-chairs of comfy and colorful design adorned the floor, but the first and most important thing that came into view was the info-counter right in front of the group. An Aether Employee sat behind it, greeting them with a nod.

"Welcome, new recruits! Please follow me, the Vice President is waiting for you." They stand up and gesture towards a door to the side of the counter.

"We must take our leave now." Kadabra bows to you. Alakazam floats over to his side and the two make for the elevator.

CATHODE

SPACE AETHER HQ

- floor B9: Cadet Command Center -

**NPCs at the scene: Mason**

Mason smirked. "Well good we've come to an agreement then." He takes a couple of steps away from Cathode and sits behind the desk. "Now be a dear and greet our guests. They'll be your new friends. Oh, but remember what I said."

Crossing his legs leisurely, he looks to the door as it opens and the rest of the Cadets enter the fray...

**PiS will return for Chapter #02**

[The two groups have joined and everyone can post freely now. Please be kind and greet Cathode~]

Cathode's eyes were wandering from one person to another, as the group of unknown kids entered the place.  Kids yeah, though apparently older than her. Not that it was weird at all. She was one of the youngest around.

They'll be your new friends.

Could they be the other Cadets that graduated? Then it would make sense.

Assuming that was true, and she would be spending a good amount of time with them in the future, it would be best to make a good first impression.  It would probably also prevent any awkward initiatives by any potential weirdo among the group (like seriously, one of them was wearing a golden trench coat, and another one was like a mummy cosplaying the Invisible Man)

She waited for them to approach a little more, then she reflexively put one palm over the other in front of her, her two arms making a V, lowered her head a little albeit wearing a shy smile  and introduced herself trying to not sound too pathetic.

Only she realized her previous unease towards strangers had returned, together with her stuttering..

"H-hello! You must be the other graduates, right?. My name is Cathode, n-nice to meet you!"

“Wowie, this place looks great.” Kai jumped out the elevator, looking around at the clear windows to the clear sky. When she saw the Employee, she stopped in place and waved her hand to them. As they motioned towards the door to the side, she took a few steps forward to get closer to it, not making much distance before it opened and revealed the tiny girl.

As she made her greetings, Kai rushed through the door, grabbing Cathode’s hands with her own and shaking them with a large amount of vigor. “My name’s Karla, but just call me Kai. it’s super nice to meet you.” A great big smile was on her face as she crouched down slightly, having trouble raising the short girl's hands too far up. Eventually, she let go of her, standing back up and spinning around to get behind her. "You're one of the graduates, huh? That means you're going with us, right? No need to be so shy, everyone here is great."

As if to nullify all her expectations about  awkward initiatives and  who of them were the weirdos,  the deceivingly normal girl suddenly jolted towards her.

The assaulter surprised Cathode so much that she was still paralyzed when that girl had taken hold of her hands and was probably trying to detach them with all that shaking.

She was saying things, but Cathode was already too shocked to comprehend them.

As the initial shock was slowly giving way to the urge of running away screaming, the assaulter finally let her hands free, which let her take a breather and cleared her head a little. She was now trying to get her from the back.

Calmdowncalmdowncalmdowncalmdowncalmdown

She was at least now conscious enough to figure out what the girl was saying. Apparently her guess about graduates was right. No need to be shy, she says, easier said than done.

With her remaining dignity she tried to give a reply to that at least. The result was average at best.

"I-i see, t-that's g-great, w-what's your name?"

Radovan had spent a while wondering why they chose such a uniform white color for the entirety of the building, and how massive the cleaning bill would be.

By the time the shy young girl went into the picture he was now busy thinking of feral bands of lost janitors skulking in the recesses of this massive building, and eking out a living by doing....something or other.

He decided that the best way to introduce himself would be to give a curt bow and to swiftly say "My name is Radovan, and don't worry we won't bite....unless you want us to".

Just as Cathode had managed to utter her reply towards the hyperactive girl, before she got a reply, she noticed that one of the two potential weirdos was giving a gentlemanly greeting, though some of the verbal contents were a bit off.

It seems every single one of them aimed to falsify her expectations.   At least the second case so far was for the better.  His implied humor eased her a bit too.

As she was already in a low-ish posture, she simply nodded in response to his bow and surprisingly to herself, she managed to reply without stuttering this time.

"Hee hee, if you say so... I'm sorry i just have a hard time with new people! Did you also meat with each other just today?"

"Greetings, Cathode. It is a pleasure to meet you." Frederick told the apparently shy girl, who looked like she could burst from the nervousness and anxiety she seemed to have. He motioned closer to offer his hand to the girl. "I am Frederick from the First Academy. Most of this group are well acquainted already, I believe. I am one of the newer additions to this group as I have been unable to follow them sometime ago in their journey in a certain Nexus; It led me to joining a rescue team, embarking in pursuit of them. Anyway, I think you will get along well with us. They are a fun bunch, after all." He told Cathode with a smile on his face. A split second later, he motioned closer to her ear and whispered, "Except Radovan, though. He is kinda mean."

Radovan takes the opportunity to swiftly noogie Red before saying "Nah don't mind Red, he's just a shy little nerd, I think you'd have some things in common with him actually~".

After a while he stopped trying to noogie Red and stood up straight with his hands behind him in a stereotypical posture he once saw some butler use and said "Yep, and we had a little adventure immediately after meeting each other, although of course Red missed the really fun parts as usual".

Emmanuel snapped right back as the elevator arrived. Before him, a little girl stood before him. She was particularly short, perhaps even shorter than Emmanuel was. He thought that he would be the youngest of the group, but it looked like that was about to change. Who knew, though. Maybe she would've been a mere waitress-to-be?

That was still somewhat reassuring, though.

He dragged his lab coat behind his feet as he walked before the girl. "Hello, Cathode, I'm Emmanuel. Are you going to brief us on our mission? Or are you going to be our boss from now?"

Needless to say, he had high expectations for strangers around the city.

Gradually, more of their group started introducing themselves in quick succession.  Cathode was starting to feel pressured by the sheer amount of attention right now, but it was being held back by the fact that most of them were being kind and not intrusive. The last boy  surprised her by assuming she would be their superior! That made a chuckle reflexively escape her, as the mere thought of that was funny. He seemed like the youngest of the bunch too.

"B-boss? Tehehe you couldn't possibly imagine someone such as me in that role! I'm simply a new Cadet like you and nothing more!"

Right...  a Cadet..  that was on the verge of not being one. It made her not feel satisfied by calling herself one due to the previous events.

No... I shouldn't think like that! I passed the exam like the rest!  I shouldn't let that meanie's words affect me!

Then she noticed the older boy next to the younger Emmanuel.  She almost forgot he had just introduced himself and she felt bad. He was being so courteous too. She blushed a bit, and hasted to reply.

"Sorry sorry! Emmanuel surprised me a bit and then my mind wandered off too! Frederick eh? Nice to meet you too! I too hope we do get along! Also i found Radovan just a bit funny, not mean!"

Then again he didn't noogie her like he did him...  uhhh people are weird!

"An adventure? Oh no... seems i missed more than I thought with my great mess-up! Was it that rumored practical exam?"

And did that mean that she was a Cadet by passing one less exam than them?  If that was the case then as much as she hated it, Mason might actually be doing her a big deal of a favor...

Kalva noticed Cathode having a little hard time with so many humans gathering around her. He could understand that it was uncomfortable when people suddenly gave him so much attention at once. So he decided to give her some space and was content with a little wave and a shy smile from afar.

Quina shifted around in Kalva's hoodie. She could sense something vaguely sinister around the parts, though it was hard to pinpoint where. She could feel something bad had transpired in the room, like the smell of rotten eggs. Quina felt cold and hugged Kalva a little tighter.

Among all the face to face introductions,  Cathode noticed at some point a pretty silent boy waving her from afar,  while wearing a shy smile that could probably mirror her usual own.

A ralt's head was poking out of his hoodie. It was so cute!

Cathode felt she could partly relate to the guy.

She tilted her head a little, while offering her trademark shy smile back, acknowledging and returning back the greeting.

"Ahem."

chapter2_by_ninjacyndaquil-dbg2o0p.png

Mason caughed into his fist to attract everyone's attention. Once all eyes were on him, he carefully examined the group, sliding his finger across a holographic screen that had, in the meantime, popped out of the table's projector. His eyes were eventually locked on Zeta and her eyes met his stare. For a moment, they stared each other down. Strangely, Zeta didn't cower. She just sort of looked at him with curiosity, whilst his eyes revealed no emotion until the very last moment before he broke the stare and turned his head away, at which time they glistened momentarily, the meaning of which was beyond the Cadets' knowledge.

Music: Lounging About

"Miss Cathode is not your boss. She'd merely failed to arrive at the ceremony, unlike Mr. Frederick, who at the very least showed up, even if he wasn't with the group at the time. For this, she would've been prohibited from graduating, but we've decided to be lenient in her case, so she'll be joining you from the next mission onwards." The Vice Prez spoke calmly, betraying none of the ill intent Quina had felt in the room. He even smiled slightly at the group. "You might wonder why you are meeting me instead of the head of your Department, but I'll have you worry not. You see, Mr. Shun is taking care of a recent Gyarados outbreak in his home-Nexus, #04 and also searching for his son, who went missing earlier today, gone off radar completely. It's still unclear whether he'd gotten caught up in the mess with the appearance of #08 or something else entirely. From my knowledge, he was supposed to be the one to pick you up from the port, but alas, he never filed for the job, so we gave it to Miss Tri."

Music: Proper Introductions

"Oh, but silly me, let me properly introduce myself. My name is Mason and I am the Vice President of the Space Aether Foundation. I have been appointed to first apologize to you for any inconveniences possibly caused by the Aether-Net fiasco. We are glad you've all made it back home safely and offer you our deepest apologies." He gave a slight bow. "I am also here to congratulate you on graduating. As a reward, you will be given 5,000 Space Poke-Dollars on your joined account to spend where your team's needs lie. Additionally, your A-Comms have already been provided with 5 Aether Balls each when you arrived. Use them to catch more Pokemon in the Nexuses you uncover. Miss Granazia has also received a Move Slot and 50 Effort Points. P-AZ, whom you've met in the Aether-Net, has been restored by Prof. Banana and he'll be operational soon enough. At that time we'll allow him access to your A-Comms, but for now, there's no need. What's important now is that we take care of the young girl you've brought with you. Gina's reports say her name is Zeta and the Murkrow and Gabite are hers." He looks in Zeta direction, with Murki and Meggie standing behind her. She doesn't protest.

"O-ok! But I'll be able to see Kai and the others again, right?" She simply asks.

"Yes, of course, as soon as we examine you and take care of your Pokemon. They'll be placed into Aether Balls and given to you under Space Aether's juridistiction. You'll be asked several questions and we'll run a couple of uninvasive tests to determine your case. You are an oddity, young lady." He smiles softly. "You'll also be temporarily placed with the group in their appointed settlement after we're done. Now come." Mason extends his hand towards Zeta. She walks over to his side, together with Murki and Meggie. They don't complain, trusting her. "The rest of you can rest for now. There is an escort waiting for you in the lobby." He points towards the door. "Meet her and she'll take you to your new home. Your families have been informed about your safety, but you won't be allowed to meet them at the moment. At the start of your Cadet career it is imperative for you to become independent. That is the reason why. I hope you'll understand. You can phone them from the house when you arrive." He says as he walks out of the room with Zeta through an alternate exit behind the desk. Zeta waves at you and smiles. Murki and Meggie do the same, with Murki bawking instead.

"KRAAAA!"

"I'll see you soon! Don't worry about me!" She says, before going out of view as the doors close and the group's left alone. It was a brief congratulation and a briefer apology, but you assume it's because of the mess that transpired. The higher-ups must have a lot of work on their hands, especially with Zeta's mystery as well. She seemed fine with going, though, and Mason promised nothing would be done to her except some questions and tests.

What remains for you to do is to go meet your escort. You feel like you know who it'll be, though......and you're not quite pleased with the notion. The doors open, revealing a particular girl standing there with her hands crossed. A small Stenee shily peeks from behind her legs.

"Well, see who it is." The girl snarks, raising her nose up high. The Stenee waves her arms apologetically. "I'm glad you're not with that lousy woman anymore. Wherever she'd gone, she better stay there. Meanwhile, I've been given the menial task totally below my capabilities agsinst my will, that is, the task of escorting you to the house they've given you as a group. Come now with me, no need to waste time." She grins and basically stomps towards the elevator.

“Stay safe, Zeta.” Kai waved good bye as the older folks took the little girl away. While she had no idea of how safe these supposedly “uninvasive” tests would be, she didn’t think much of it. She could trust the Vice President enough.

Falling back towards the group, she noticed the girl behind the door. She looked over her shoulder at the rest of the group, wondering how they knew her beforehand. It was probably nothing important, anyway. "Oh, we're gonna share a house?" Kai bobbed her head to the sides, excited to spend time together with the rest of the group.

Taking another look at the girl, she noticed the tiny creature hiding behind her. “Aww, it’s so adorable.” She ran ahead towards the door, kneeling as she looked at the Steenee, the woman standing between her and the plant creature. “Don’t be shy, we’re all friends here.” Kai extended her arms out, offering a hug to the little Steenee, completely disregarding the girl standing with her arms crossed.

Emmanuel was particularly annoyed by the reappearance of the girl, but he knew to hold back. At least, he'd hold back as long as possible. Solosis nudged him quietly from the back, as he took up a faked friendliness toward the girl. "Hello again, Betani. Would you like to properly introduce yourself again? I'm sure we're all ears," he said warmly, as he followed her into the elevator.

Radovan had a sly smile on his face after seeing a sort of familiar face greeting the group, and he couldn't help but say "Oh no! It is the eeeevvviiiill woman who randomly attacked us earlier! And we don't have any ice cream or pityfulness to defend ourselves with! Oh whatever shall we do?" He then passed a bit of time trying to get a closer look of her Stenee

"Your name is Betani? And. . . you attacked someone earlier?" Obviously Shelly had been with most of the group for a while, so it was probably only Radovan and Emmanuel who had been attacked. . . Did they provoke this woman? She was certainly an annoyed woman, but she didn't seem violent. She mentioned another woman. . . Gina? That might be the explanation, Shelly supposed. "I for one would like to hear that story while we walk.

So one of the people in the group was actually not a Cadet?  But she did have two strong-looking pokemon accompanying her.  Though she did seem a bit out of place...

Cathode glanced towards the door where they had disappeared behind, a bit troubled.

I wonder if they'll be okay with him.

Her attention was drawn towards the newcomer... their supposed guide towards their new accommodations. She definitely didn't give the best first impression, though it seems her problem was with someone else that was not here at the moment. That was good at least.

A stenee was using her legs as a futile shelter, and was obviously shy with so many people around.  Seeing a bit of herself in it, Cathode felt attached to this cutie and started absentmindedly walking towards it to try socialize with it.

It seems it was apologizing for something. From the sayings of her future companions she could pick up that something had happened between them, and the stenee was involved too.

She silently supported the yet not introduced girl's request to listen to the story.

Sena hasn't been paying attention to everything except that there's a new girl in the group, the fact that Zeta is going somewhere to have her pokemon tested with Vice President Mason and another Gyarados incident.

I should go there and see if  I could help them with the Gyarados... and maybe hopefully found that pokemon. Sena was quite deep in thought about his past with Gyarados and a certain pokemon that he help before it ran off somewhere in #04, but then as he was deep in his thought, he saw a familiar figure... and not the friendly one, it's the same woman who attacked the group earlier who seems to bear a grudge with Gina.

That's just great, why it has to be her... of all people. Damn it! Alright I'm not going to try adding more enemy to my list. he sighes, she must've have her own reason to have a grudge with Gina... but then again everyone might bear a grudge against Gina, well... except Kalva of course.

"why hello there, we meet again." Sena greet Betani.

Quina watched Mason carefully. Though he did look friendly, she still felt like there was a sinister precedent behind that smile. She tugged again on Kalva's hoodie to gain his attention, then looked to Mason in caution. Kalva tilted his head in a little confusion, then smiled gently.

I'm sure you're worrying too much Quina...we've had our run-ins with humans before, but surely the Vice President would have our best interests in mind?

Quina felt a little frustrated with Kalva's unrivalled innocence. If anything... he should be the one who should be wary of anyone who resembled a father-like figure. But Kalva's starry-eyed view upon the world seemed to make him have an unshakeable belief in the people he knew, and sometimes even people he didn't know. Well...she reckoned it was her job to keep Kalva safe, and keep on watch for ill wishes. After all, it was Kalva who had protected her since, and such would only be repaying a fraction of the debt she owed to Kalva. She continued to watch Mason as they were introduced to the human they faced before. Betani.

Kalva met Betani's remark with a frown. Gina was certainly not a 'lousy woman'. She had earned her place in both her prowess in battle and leadership in the Academy. And, he surely knew, she was a better human than 'Betani'. Betani was mean and pretentious. But what threw Kalva's judgement of Betani was her pokemon, Steenee. Steenee was polite and apologetic, and from their last encounter, she tried to stop fighting once she knew they weren't trying to fight. Plus, Betani listened to Steenee's request not to fight was well, so showing Betani did listen to her pokemon too, a trait which Kalva held to high regard.

Kalva decided to give Betani the benefit of the doubt and assume she was a nice person, just with a harsh style of speaking. He gave Steenee a friendly wave and a smile to show that all was forgiven. Kalva realised that he forgot Steenee's name. Perhaps he should be the one apologising?

Who is that girl? It appears that a few of the cadets had an encounter of sorts with her earlier, and it looks as if it definitely was not a friendly one. I am not sure what I feel towards her; though she has a snarky personality, she seems to be someone better than Gina at the very least, and she also grinned before getting into the elevator. Maybe she is someone respectable at least? Frederick thought, his eyes intent on the new girl who took the responsibility of escorting them. He was curious as to the girl's role in the Space Aether Academy. He decided to ask the girl politely. "A pleasure to meet you, Betani? I may have forgotten, but you are one of the higher ranked authorities here, right?"

Music: Lil' Miss B.

Betani stands in shock at everyone's reactions to her appearance. If one looked close enough, they could see her lips swiveling ever so slightly, followed by a shy blush momentarily flaring her cheeks at Radovan's remark.

"I am not an evil woman." She shook her head and looked to the side, still holding her nose high as proudly as she could.

Steenee, or well, Nee, as her name was, still hid behind Betani's legs, especially with everyone approaching her in one way or another. She'd extended one of her hands to Kai when she kneeled to her and shake it. When she saw Emmanuel and Solosis, though, she peered a bit more before skittering towards them, followed by Betani's strict eyes following her. "Nee, where-"

The Pokemon shook her head and stood before Emmanuel as the elevator doors opened for the group. She held something up in her hands for them...some berries?

[Emmanuel received x3 GMO Sitrus Berries: Heals 30% max HP. Alleviates status conditions.]

The Pokemon bowed and ran off after Emmanuel took the berries from her. Betani shook her head but welcomed her with open hands, brining her up to her chest and holding her like a mother her child. Or a younger sister.

"Happy now, you little thing?" She asks and Nee nods happily. Betani sighs. With her attention diverted to Emmanuel, she addresses his question first.

"Why yes." Her eyes seem vary of him as she talks. The group enters the elevator. "My name is Betani Tri, and I am a Cadet here at Space Aether. I'm 16 years old, graduated at 14, top of my class, obviously." She runs a hand through her hair in a boastful way, smirking. "And yes, I attacked you earlier, but only because of that wretched Gina, who messed with the appointments only to get herself on that rescue flight. Because, you know, I was the one who was supposed to go there to get you." The girl is quiet for a moment, letting this sink in. She glanced at Sena like a Mandibuzz her prey. She could feel the animosity in his voice. "I am, of course, of higher authority than you lot, but still nothing to write stories about. I work at Cadet Security as well." She added to Frederick. "You can, though, if you so wish, call me Miss. Tri. I won't complain." As she talked, the elevator had both started going up and already came to a halt. Betani led the group onto the F0 Lobby, a spacious hall at least three times the size and height of the Cadet floor, B9. Grand, glass doors were the main feature that came into view first and also where the group was headed. "We'll be boarding a Space Car, which will take you to your new house. After that, I suppose you'll be done for the day, as will I." Betani continues as you walk. "If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me."

[Ask Betani]

1.) About Nee?

2.) About Cadets?

3.) About Security?

4.) About the Cadet Master, Mr. Shun, and his son?

...

...

7.) About the Abravators?
