Frankly, I find it quite baffling how anyone is supposed to win consistently under such circumstances when the Gym Leaders have the advantage of extreme flexibility. it doesnt even have to be limited to 4-5 different teams, they can easily change around some moves/items/whatnot to counter your mons. though its able to work around that. have mons that can fit in different roles, ones that can be flexible in their sets, because the leaders cant see which items/abilities/evs you put on them, I guess. However, there is the balance between our ability to pick any 6 mons from nearly the entire pokedex versus their restriction to exclusively one type. So, success comes down to a balanced team with pokemon that can to adapt to different strategies. There's also balance in needing 2/3 wins per tier to advance in the league, so if a particular type completely shuts down your team, try against the other two leaders. Once leaders/tiers/aces are announced, you could even plan your team specifically to only deal with 2/3 teams per tier and avoid whichever weaknesses you'd have every tier. There's also the balance in the time and effort needed to create a new team per challenger. It's likely leaders will have a couple of "staple" teams with their best strategies to alternate between rather than counter picking every single opponent they have. There's also the balance that the leaders will not keep the league alive if all they do is straight up counter opponents, as they'll lose their participants if the league is "unfun" and "unfair." tl;dr: If they really want to counter all their opponents, they could, but the time/energy/effort of always doing so would be large and not truly in the spirit of having a fun/fair event. While we're not going to be drawing a fine line in the sand, we are going to be cracking down on leaders if they counter team way too much. With that said, if a challenger has a pokemon that completely wrecks a leaders entire team, the leader is allowed to bring a check/counter to ensure that they don't get blown out of the water. As for the flexibility aspect, do keep in mind that leaders are limited to one type afterall, some more versatile than others. Link to post Share on other sites

I remember there was originally talk about activity both on the server and on the forums counting for EXP gains, so I was wondering if participating in something like this actively could generate some EXP for participants (even if it's part of the championship reward).
