I did enjoy DR1 very much! And Kirigiri was in my opinion the absolute star of the show, surpassing even Naegi, who was just as you said: the typical anime protagonist that promotes high morals and ideals. Something like a DR version of Naruto, showing how hope can defeat despair against the odds. I thought that the second one was better designed though (more well-polished), and I liked the fact that there were obviously many things that didn't fit, or sounded surreal, till the end! I mostly just find DR2 characters slightly more interesting than DR1's ones. But this is just a matter of taste! Finally, I hope you will enjoy this run as much as I do!

I am not sure about Hawlucha, it seems like an overkill this early in the game... I'd go for a Riolu from the first Cave you have to cross instead. Name her Justice maybe! And certainly a Deerling from the next city. You can find it in the tall grass somewhere North (can't remember exact location though... Naragex Forest I think) I had named my female Sawsbuck Viva Aldia. Cause Vivaldi... Four Seasons... Bit weird, I know

If that's the case, then I think that Game Freak just preferred to create a new form instead of buffing Midday Lycanroc. Midday and Dusk look 95% the same apart from mane and colour (which could even be a shiny, so no big deal). They also have same typing. Unless Dusk has a different signature move than Midday, then it is just a typical writer's block case... They didn't know what to do, so they just tweaked a few things.
