  1. Hello! I saw you mentioned your grad school somewhere in another thread/dimension. What do you study? What do you intend to do once you graduate? Ok it's boring. Another question perhaps ... Are you hyped for 'His Dark Materials' this Fall? Have your read the books?
  2. Since you're quite the passionate one when it is about videogames, can you explain why do you think videogames could be considered as an art form? Long answer expected.
  3. Oh I don't remember that! And it's probably the case. Knowing myself, I think I gave this person the book. Thank you!
  4. The Ancient Book has disappeared from my bag. Not sure if it's a bug or if I triggered an event at some point but here was happened: I've completed the Hidden Library 2 sidequest. I did found the book for sure because I saw in the forum that Karen was supposed to give to us when she snatched the Mega Ring. I remember having it in my inventory at some point because I could read Garufan prophecies in the Hidden Library before leaving. But now, I'm in Marianette's Mansion and I can't read prophecies present on the Absol and Gardevoir statues. It seems the book vanished from my inventory at some point. Not sure if this item matters in the future but I find this issue disturbing ^^ I could search through all my savefiles if needed.
  5. It sounds just the same in my head when I read the name. I know it's wrong but I can't help it ^^ This guy is a nice discovery! Funny playthrough incoming.
  6. Yeah, you can roll over some fights with a counter-team or even with a hard-counter. You can do so because you know your opponent's team. But where is the fun in that? It's ok for a team to be 6 - 0 by something. or at least to have several counters. Every team does. That does not mean the team is weak.
  7. I reached level 8 for the first time yesterday. Level 7 gave me 1700 coins. Happiest moment in my run. This was no skill at all. There are a lot of 50-50 situations where, well, you have to make choices. Once you know which rows/columns are cleared and how many coins you lack in the others, the game gets simpler.
  8. The Sap Sipper ability doesn't work. I have a Blitzle and the opposing wild Deerling used Leech Seed on me. And ... it worked. I'm on Route 2. Let me know if you need more details such as a battle log or something. I will try to know if this issue happens with other moves.
  9. Title! I have a Blitzle and the opposing wild Deerling used Leech Seed on me. And ... it worked I'm on Route 2. Let me know if you need more details such as a battle log or something. Edit: I will post this in the approriate thread. Sorry. Plz delete.
  10. Wow. I didn't know all these issues about Smogon but it's quite understandable. After spending 3 years shaping the Gen 7 meta, it will be hard to say goodbye to all these mechanics one learned to appreciate. For those who didn't know, Z-moves ended up being really healthy. And megas gave a second life to a lot of pokemons. There are even megas less useful than the actual pokemons such as Garchomp and Tyranitar. It's like a brand new pokemon in the competitive point of view. The question that remains is how many? How many pokemons out of the thousands will we have? Does anyone saw a glimpse of a clue about that? A restricted meta could be fine. For instance, Let's Go mechanics were fun but there were only 150 beasts. There was an Aerodactyl with SR in every viable team. It just needed more things to work with. So, if Smogon ends up with 400-500 pokemons available, I think Gen 8 6v6 will work just fine. In any case, it will be a challenge.
  11. Hi! How do the devs work as a team? I'm interested in what the backstage look like. What do people do to help development? Are there a lot of people besides? Well, that's already too many questions. I let you guys answer what you want. It's an open-ended question after all. I haven't reached Venam yet but I'm enjoying my run so far!
  12. Hi! If your dream team includes legendaries, I will choose Primal-Groudon and Necrozma Dusk-Mane, two of most powerful legendaries in Gen 7. Oh, there is Mega-Rayquaza too. Since the Dev Blog post said that gym leaders could get as many legendaries as they like, I won't take them lightly. Assuming I will choose the Boss Rush without legendaries, I will restrict myself too. Playing stall is the best option imo so I will bring at least Chansey, Mega-Sableye and Toxapex … Stall has a good winning rate, I think it's the safest bet. Otherwise, I will bring Garchomp, Volcarona, Greninja, M-Medicham, Z-Kommo-o … Top tiers without doubt. But I expect to get crushed in double battles at some point Or I could just play F.E.A.R. …. and hundreds and hundreds of common candies between fights if we're allowed to.
  13. Gigamax could be funny, especially with this wedding cake which made me laugh at work (I was subtle thankfully). Will we end up with a pudding pokemon, one famous british recipe? Speaking of it, as said earlier, this cake pokemon just screams an alternate evolution in the Slurpuff line. Maybe we can expect new evolutions for forgotten pokemons (not Slurpuff tho, this guy is everything), just like Gen4 did. I'm a little hyped. The Steel/Dragon pokemon is very similar to Gigalith. Their shapes are really close. When I first saw it I was like 'O-M-G GALAR FORMS CONFIRMED' but ... another time perhaps.
  14. I can't react to this content I want to because all this stuff about AI is very interesting, even if it seems evil. I guess one can find good in the bad after all. Have fun with the testing!
  15. About Dynamax ... The stat boost is thankfully only a HP boost. Pokemon will become more bulky and have strong additional effects such as setting up fields, weathers or lowering/boosting stats. I don't know what defensive moves do though. The power of these moves is average. Just like Z-moves, it depends on the base move but I've seen Double Edge turned into a 140 BP Max Strike. It's not broken then. I am looking forward to how it will work in the competitive stage. But I'm more confident about it now. What do you guys think?
  16. Dragon Dance Lapras. I mean, not the best, but very fun to use. Jokes aside, Mamoswine, Weavile, A-Ninetails, Cloyster are very good. But when you say the best, it depends on what you need in your team. Do you need offense, utilities, speed? Many ice types can be useful.
  17. I like some songs of this band. This song introduced me to them and it's very happy comparing to what they usually do.
  18. This is too epic. I can't handle this pokemon fight. Can you guys?

  19. Take a look into On The Hunt topics. Ability capsules are hidden here and there. You can't buy ones at this point of the game.
  20. I suggest you use some ability capsules and grab some heart scales (there are Luvsdics in the lake). Find the move relearner and please yourself with coverage and utility moves. There are plenty of solutions available for your team, for instance give Light Screen to Meowstic and Speed Boost + High Jump Kick to Blaziken. Your pokemons are nice imo. You don't need to change your team to beat the game. Just find good moves, especially utility ones and you will have no trouble. With your team as it is, I would use Thunder Wave on Porygon-Z and kill him with Hariyama. But there are many other possibilites!
  21. As a novice competitive player who like to watch some competitive stuff sometimes, I can say that the competitive future is incertain. According to some players, it can turn out very good or very bad. I have listed some potential consequences of this decision: We can assume that legendaries and pseudo-legendaries, being part of the region where they come from, will be not available anymore. For instance, we could say goodbye to the Tapus and the Ultra-Beasts native in Alola. Plus, in Gen 7, we had an event every two months for a new legendary available. I guess it won't be the case anymore. There are currently 20 legendaries out fo 50 pokemons in the OU metagame. This will induce changes if some of them are left out. Even the Uber tier may not exist anymore. Breeding options may change. Some moves may not be available anymore. The new mechanic Dynamax seems too brutal from what has been shown so far (discount Z-moves and boost in stats, at least in HP). Being able to sweep for 3-turns without setting up will enforce taking counter-measures such as a defensive Dynamax (hello Toxapex), moves like Substitute, Fake Out, Protect ... abilities like Prankster and Sturdy … items like Red Card and Focus Sash … It doesn't look healthy! But again, we don't know yet how this mechanic will work. In conclusion, the competitive stage is a big box to be shaken. And what will come out could be tasty or disgusting.
  22. On the official website, we can see that Grookey went from 41 to 61 HP by dynamaxing. So, it will increase HP too. I don't know why but I feel like it could take a whole turn to Dynamax. At least, it will less overpowered than boosting your stats AND using a 'discount' Z-move. But I may be wrong because Grookey lost 1 PP between the two pictures.
  23. Same as you. Plus, unless Dynamax is not as overpowered as it seems, I feel like it would ruin most of the battles by making the game too easy and by slowing down battles even more. I already have doubts but I hope this new mechanic will convince me later. And concerning GF's creativity, there was little room for hope considering what's they have been making so far through these two decades. The story hasn't changed. The gameplay hasn't changed that much. Every single Gen has consisted of graphics enhancement and an addition of new pokemons. I will enjoy those of course, there is real work behind these new creatures and the universe in general but I can't stop thinking that I will play the same game over again. 8-years old me would have loved it. And maybe that's what keep them in this choice of aiming for childrens. They want to keep it simple and casual because they know it's going to sell. Even the ones who are not convinced will buy it eventually. They have no reason to invest time into more complex things.
